If you call the local area phone number, you get routed to the Roto-Rooter call center somewhere on the globe (but not in Nashville). If you are lucky, you will speak to a pleasant woman with a British sort of accent. She takes your information and passes it to a local Roto-Rooter person. Within a half hour or so, Ruben pulled into my driveway. We did a walk-around so that he could see the drain piping from my bathroom toilet to the main house drain line. My recently installed low-flow toilet waste was not flushing properly. Instead, waste was backing up the line and going into the bottom of the adjacent shower stall. Toilet removed and Ruben ran a waterproof cable with camera/light down the drain line, where the camera showed the line plugged by toilet paper and associated waste material (technical term is poop). A bit of pushing with the cable light, and the line cleared. Then Ruben showed me that my 45-year-old, 4-inch cast iron drain line had large mineral deposits that made the inside surface quite rough. Liquid flowed fine, but solids like paper tend to catch on the surface and accumulate. He recommended replacement.
The cost for the 20-minute visit was just under $500. In fact, Roto-Rooter evaluates for free, and then gives you a quote that is good for however long the work takes, whether 5 minutes or 8 hours. So, I ended up paying $480 for a very quick visit by Roto-Rooter. Next time, I will probably call a local plumber. I should note that Ruben has been doing this stuff for almost 20 years, so he made it look easy. Someone else might have taken a couple of hours, and probably wouldn't have the camera.
I also plan to get that ancient drain line replaced. Roto-Rooter will replace it for $3800 (they gave me the quote), but it is not an emergency, so I will find a local plumber. It's all of maybe eight feet of pipe, with easy access.
I would possibly use Roto-Rooter again in an emergency situation, but I don't have $500 to throw around very often.

Got quoted by other plumbers for $1,000+ to repair a leak in my shower, despite none of them physically diagnosing what was wrong with it. Mid 10 Plumbing sent out two plumbers that actually took apart my faucet and handle and found that there was actually a little gap between the outside of the valve and the wall that was causing the internal leak. All that was needed was a new seal to be put in, and the leak seems to be gone. Saved me about $1000-$1100 that the other companies were going to charge me to replace my shower system entirely. Would highly recommend.

I noticed my water bill had been rising substantially month over month and I had no running toilets or obvious problems I could find. I was referred to Broussard plumbing by a friend and it could not have been a better experience. They discovered the issue quickly and fixed the problem. I had a sewer blockage. I called and was quoted $170.00. I called again to confirm the price before the company came out. The plumber told me he could not access the clean-out in my basement because his machine weighed 300 pounds. I wonder how he ever accesses basements if indeed the machine weighs 300 pounds. He then pulled my toilet and cleared the sewer. I am happy with the results, but as he was leaving, I handed him an envelope with $170. in cash. He then said that the cost was extra for pulling the toilet and wanted $75.00 more. I called the company and they told me I had only given them $35.00 extra ($205.00 instead of $245) in the envelope. My mistake not to have him count. I would not use this company again even though the work was good. I had a feeling there would be some sort of bait and switch at the end and now I am even accused of lying about the money. Surely there is a company out there that would be a bit more transparent.

Hot water heater pilot light was out. Ben Franklin got a technician out first thing Saturday morning and fixed it quickly - these guys are great!! Awesome service!!
