John sorted out the cooling issues I was having and increased the cooling power. It took him some hours but he was persistent and dedicated to getting me the best cooling possible. I’m writing about my experience with King Mechanical to save people from the expensive and frustrating mistake I made by hiring Frank Marquez and his company, King Mechanical, to install a new Trane AC unit at my home.

I paid King mechanical over +$5K cash to replace my AC unit. A contractor working outside heard the loud clattering noise the HVAC unit was making and commented that something was wrong with my brand new AC unit. The owner of King Mechanical, Frank Marquez, was called. Marquez said he would send someone to evaluate the banging noise in the new unit. One month later, King Mechanical had not sent a technician to my home or even contacted me about making an appointment. Multiple calls over multiple months with the same result. He would promise to evaluate the loud banging sound on my brand-new unit. Then he would not show up. By this time, I was upset. I had a faulty AC unit and was asking for a service call from the company that I paid a significant amount of money to install. King Mechanical would not even send a tech to check on the problem.

After 10 months of calling and texting without replies or responses from the owner of King Mechanical, I sent a certified letter. Only then was a repair tech sent out and he confirmed that the AC unit should not be making any noise as he heard. A month later, King Mechanical came out to “repair” my brand new AC unit.

A little over 4 months later I woke to a constant, loud banging sound while the unit was running. I went outside and recorded a video and sent it to the owner, Frank Marquez. Something had broken loose and was banging around inside the unit. This is in the middle of the Arizona summer with 115-degree heat. (see video)

Marquez’s response? “I’m booked out for 2 days. I can't drop everything for you”. What? In the text exchange, he repeated that he takes care of his customers and he stands behind his manufacturers.

Two days later at 2 am the unit completely exploded. I had no AC with a house full of kids. He stopped responding at all.

I reported him to the Contractors board. By the way, an inspection by the Contractors' Board takes 3 to 4 weeks. I obviously couldn't live with a broken AC unit in August in Phoenix that long. I had to pay a second HVAC company $2000 to repair the faulty AC unit installed and the substandard repair work performed by King Mechanical and Frank Marquez.

The Contractor Board inspector said he couldn't evaluate King Mechanical's work because of the emergency repair work. Frank then told me he wouldn't honor any warranty for the unit he installed. What a shock! I guess he felt more confident he wouldn't get in trouble for his shoddy install and repair.

The most troubling part of hiring King Mechanical to install the HVAC unit in my Phoenix home is that throughout this whole ordeal, the owner of King Mechanical had no feelings of obligation to the new HVAC unit he installed or the damage his repair caused. King Mechanical would not even schedule an emergency repair when his AC unit completely broke down. He knew I had 4 children in my home in the sweltering heat of summer. He wouldn't return my texts or calls. ( see video)

I expected a reliable AC unit and a company who stands behind their product and their service. Arizona has many HVAC companies that place quality products, provide quality service to their customers after they get paid. These companies make AC repairs that will not destroy the AC unit. King Mechanical is NOT one of these companies. When my King Mechanical AC install did not go right, the owner would not make it right. When the AC unit broke down, he would not help. In fact, the owner of King Mechanical NEVER responded unless he thought he was going to get in trouble.

Frank Marquez will take your money and disappear. King Mechanical does not stand behind its workmanship. Do not make the expensive mistake of hiring King Mechanical for HVAC repair and AC installation in Phoenix.

Service was great. System works great. Follow up and clean up was perfect!

AC has been fine as we do take care of the mechanicals around the home.

Last year this time we decided to find a new Service Company and my wife searched and found a boutique, family run Company in North Phoenix called Just Air, Inc.

Their Owner James came and serviced the Unit while being understanding with our Covid concerns.

Just Air is truly family run which now includes their son Bradley as a service technician.

Bradley came out on time and began a very thorough spring clean and inspection and became concerned about the condenser motor. He also went into the attic to observe the air handler and check the settings ala the cooling temps.

He determined that we were very close to needing a new motor and we opted in. The sheer level of detail that Bradley engaged on & efforted was pretty amazing while honoring our safety concerns via Covid as a family member here is immunocompromised.

For a young man to have this level of understanding and emotional intelligence was very impressive and greatly appreciated.

It also follows what we had felt from last years’ service about the TLC and professionalism of Just Air.

They may not be even close to being the biggest service provider, but we would be hard pressed to find a better managed and run organization.

The dispatcher Sheila was very helpful when I called their emergency line. Our AC broke the night before. She sent the technician (Jordan) right away. When Jordan arrived we think we saw an angel with a halo. He diagnosed the problem right away (broken motor) and fixed it. He answers all my AC related questions with confidence.

Manny has been out to my house a couple times in the last year and has knocked it out of the park each time. The guy knows his stuff and has both of our units running in tip top shape!

My garbage disposal stopped working Sunday, and Parker and Sons sent out a tech the next day. Extremely fast service. Darrell is an absolute top tier tech. He is extremely personable, friendly, and really knows his stuff. He got my assume solved in a quick amount of time, while also answering my questions about life span of the products and even helping to get me schedule on a water softener I need replaced (who is also coming out today - talk about quick service!).I will absolutely be using Parker and Sons again the future. Continue to employ people like Darrell and your business will thrive!

Called Patrick Riley out to have them braze some lines and charge my new system. I was quoted 850.00 and said do it, temps were still under 100 at the time so it seemed to be working but was running longer than my older unit. Once temps started reaching over 100 degrees the unit would not shut off and would not cool my home any lower than 79 . I called George Brazil out this time and they told me my unit was way over charged. They removed over 3 lbs of Freon and it works great, Cost me another 549.00 to correct. I just hope the overcharge didn't cause any damage to my compressor and shorten it's life span. Seriously if you need HVAC work done just call Brazil and get it done right the first time, this was a 550.00 loss for me because of Riley's under trained tech.

Paid for emergency service $147.00 non-refundable fee on Friday 8/6 and was told new air compressor needed to be fixed. I had to contact Howard Air on 8/7 for next steps to get it fixed, they did not call me. Was told by lady on 8/7 she would contact me on 8/9 to schedule when a/c could be fixed and take my credit card. Was never contacted on 8/9 or 8/10 by lady after she knew our unit was not working at all. Highly recommend to not use Howard Air!

Update: Even though it says someone would contact me, as of 8/16/21 nobody from Howard Air ever contacted me. Very disappointing.
