I really regret calling Roto-Rooter.I own a duplex in Austin. My tenants unexpectedly had their gas shut off by Texas Gas, and when they finally came to turn it back on, they did not start the water heater.We tried multiple times to start the heater ourselves, knowing it should be a simple fix, but just couldn’t seem to get it started. I was worried about the tenants as they hadn’t had hot water for days at that point and it was set to freeze that night. I decided to just go ahead and call someone to come out and help, as I thought there may need to be a part replacement.Roto rooter came out the same day within a matter of hours, which is commendable. They charge a $75 service fee which can be applied toward the cost of work if work is done. The technician was very friendly and kind. I explained to him the issue and that I thought it was a problem with the igniter. He told me if he could get the water heater to start, it would be $300. I honestly thought he meant that would be the price to replace the piece I thought needed to be fixed. He then proceeded to start the water heater simply following the same steps I had been doing. I was surprised and relieved that it worked without repair. He then told me that that alone would be the $300 that we discussed. I was shocked. A decent service would’ve charged the service fee (seeing as no work was done) and that would be more than reasonable. Roto rooters service charges are extremely expensive, and I felt taken advantage of because I didn’t fully understand what I was getting myself into when I agreed to let the technician try to start the heater. I’ve seen multiple reviews now calling them out for their predatory pricing mechanisms. Will not recommend this company to anyone and will not be calling them again.

Johnny Rooter is where it’s at. I have many rental properties and two businesses in my home and they are pretty much my go to choice two get things done correctly and with a warranty.

This plumber was a great find! They called us back quickly, arrived on time, and diligently solved our tricky clogging problem using a straightforward and well explained approach. I purchased a home several years ago that was built in the 1960's. Unfortunately, the home still had its original sewer and drain cast iron lines. After clearing several clogs and performing spot repairs it was clear that the cast iron pipes were past their life expectancy. After getting several bids, I hired Starr Sewer and Drain to replace the entire system (120 feet of tunneling). It's been over six month since the repair and the system has been performing as it should. Thank you Starr Sewer and Drain for your professionalism and for providing me with peace of mind - 5 StaRRs! (Just had to add the extra R haha).

I was having the foundation being repaired and at 5:30 pm on a Friday night they showed me a mangled water pipe and said it needed to be repaired before the city inspector saw and demand it be fixed. I called mid-day the following day and the plumber came out in the afternoon, quickly and professional fixed the water pipe which actually carried NO water. With some of the odd things that the contractor did this was one more sloppy problem with the contractor. I was most impressed in that he explained each thing he used to correct the issue. Apparently the inspector just driving by without going in and checking, was the “inspection”. While the plumber and I did the right thing, city inspector didn’t. I will recommend this company without any hesitation to others for fast, professional service with a dash of education explaining what he did to repair the problem.

I've used the Plumbinator twice. Once to replace our hot water heater and more recently to unclog our drain line. Very courteous and competent crew both times. Glad to have found these guys.

Beware. I would give a zero star negative if there is one. This guy is not showing up for scheduled. Response text after 9pm saying he was busy and will come do it tomorrow after 4pm. He called at 4:56 and I picked up but he already hang up. Called him right back about 30 times from 4:57pm-5:30pm and no response.
