Caveat emptor! Initial service call on Saturday morning was excellent. A tech was dispatched and on site within 40 minutes. It took him about 2 hours to use a power auger to cut roots out of the sewer lateral. The tech was polite and professional - About $350. The supervisor came by later in the afternoon with the camera to scope the pipe. I was not home, but he showed video to my wife where the roots had been cut out and then where there was still a problem in the old clay tile that needed to be replaced. He left us two quotes, one to replace approx 10 foot of tile with PVC for about $4,000 (just the damaged area) and one to replace 75 foot of tile for just slightly less than $10,000(all the way to the property line). $4k and $10k are not inconsequential sums of money, and the drain was flowing for the time being, so I looked up excavating contractors and solicited two additional quotes. Both of the quotes received were for replacing the 75' of tile and both were less than 1/3 of the Roto-Rooter quote. Both excavating firms were established companies with excellent ratings on Angie's list. Generally I am fine with a fair mark-up, but in this instance I believe Roto-Rooter went way too far. My advice - once the emergency is past, take time to do a price check.

They said there was no leak and destroyed my bathroom ceiling I guess to make sure they weren't wrong. They never even tried to fix the faucets which is why I thought the pipes were frozen.

From the initial call with Tammie the customer service was exceptional. Tammie was able to get my service scheduled on the initial call and fit me into an earlier appointment. I called Summer's first and Mr. Plumber was a quicker response for the service I required. The team that handled my issue was very prompt and explained clearly what fix was required. Hayden was the initial tech to assess and when he ran into an issue and needed a camera to assess further Jenny arrived in about 30 minutes and was great in showing what occurred and check the 100ft plus of the sewer pipe to make sure it was clear. This provided confidence in what had to be repaired. Cole and his team arrived a week later, called ahead they were coming and arrived on time. They completed the job in a day and kept me updated on their status through the day. Lastly, I had some questions and Jenny called me back quickly which I didn't expect. They're honest and are willing to give a rough quote over the phone when you schedule your appointment so you have an idea of approximately what the repair/installation will cost.
