Just moving to Denver I had no references of handy men. I googled Handy Men Denver and I was lucky enough to find Sonny. I had items to assemble from IKEA of which if you know is no small job... very tedious. The first handy man I called hung up on me when I said I had IKEA products.
I left a message for Sonny and he called back with in 5 mins. He was polite flexible and on time for our scheduled appointment.

I live in a little ranch built in the 1950’s. There are a lot of odd ball things about my home, but I love it. I wanted to have ceiling fans installed, but the fixtures were on the wall I stead of the ceiling, and I have no attic. I got recommendations for an electrician from Home Depot, and they gave me the contact info for Justin at Interstate. He’s amazing. Not only did he do a fantastic job on the ceiling fans, but he gave me great recs for brands of fans, and what to look for. He was prompt, very professional, and worth every penny. I am so happy to leave a review for the Company. My appointment was scheduled for the 1-3 pm block of time. And I was so please that Brian C. showed up 15 mins early! And with a smile on his face, he is a clean cut professional electrician that diagnosed the issues we have going on with our Breaker box and outlets. He explained what was happening with the breakers tripping and explained why one of the wall sockets had melted. Shady business practice would be putting it lightly. Had a burst pipe so called them out. Plumber was on time, very professional, and fixed the problem. But as he was leaving he says. Hey I screwed the bathtub faucet back on for you. Thanks man I appreciate that.However he did not screw it back on correctly. Back sprayed water into the wall for a few days. Suddenly the furnace below the bathroom is dead. Call applewood out again. Tell us the main board is dead but don’t say why. Replace it. 4 days later it’s dead again so I decide to look for myself. Water damage everywhere. Replace motherboard for the second time in a week.Have a plumber out again and he identifies the problem instantly. Water backing up into the wall from the bathtub faucet.Applewood refuses to take responsibility at all. Admits their plumber messed up but because it wasn’t work I paid for they don’t see any responsibility.If you do use them make sure they write down in detail everything they do. No matter how small. They will rip you off if you don’t.

Had Brian come out and repair some old outlets and wiring, and he did a phenomenal job!. Very quick as well! Will be having him come out and install new light fixtures in our closet. 100% recommend!!

Dustin showed up within 25 minutes of me calling AAA. He was nice and explained step by step what he was going to do. He did his job very well and kept everything clean while doing so. I’m very impress with the quality of work and the time it took from the moment I called to get the job done. You guys also got bonus points for sending me a text message with the information and Dustin’s photo so I knew who was entering my house ahead of time! I highly recommend AAA for your plumbing needs!

THE WORST DECISION WAS USING THEM! Our furnace stopped working just before the holidays. They said the issue was a switch, said it’d be two weeks to get the part and turn our heat back on (in December). They told my wife that it wouldn’t be covered under warranty and would be $500 to fix and that it couldn’t be fixed any sooner because they had to order it. The reason the switch burnt out was because of our filter. We have dogs that shed constantly and the filter was really dirty. I’m fine with replacing that for our heat to come back on. We’re new homeowners and have never had these things happen before. We called them seeking additional assistance. They said they couldn’t help and would have someone call us back Monday, but didn’t call until Tuesday. Meanwhile my wife and animals are home alone with no heat. Then they came back out and said they could grab a switch down the street and change it that day, the same switch they supposedly already ordered and couldn’t get for two weeks. They changed the switch, charged us $500, and the furnace was still broken. Said they could fix it for another $1,000 although they weren’t actually certain what the issue was. I got a second opinion who diagnosed the issue, charged reasonable pricing & was amazing! They even said the original switch that was replaced by these guys is only $25-$35 and that we basically got taken advantage of by this company.

Golden West just leveled-up the hydronic heating system capabilities in the Denver-metro area (possibly in the Western US). Jason, Manny & Joseph and team, impressively, completed a comprehensive Steam boiler to Combi boiler conversion on my over 80+ yo system. I’m an old-house lover: I spend all of my free time, learning about, buying, living in, and remodeling historic properties but I also care for the environment and sustainability. Subsequently, I spent the last several years researching and talking to tons of hydronic heating specialists, looking for someone who could think in terms of preserve AND modernize and really think through the complexities of heating my house. I’m very well versed in the topic and I hate duck-tape solutions. Jason’s responses to my laundry list of prodding questions struck me right-away as the most knowledgeable I’ve met - he loves to talk about (not down) about heating systems. I’ve talked with several other companies. One other top-rated hydronic boiler specialist (their website boasts they’re ability to work with ALL residential heating and cooling systems) called me back early one evening, had poor answers to my testing questions, talked down to me, and quickly told me I was interrupting their dinner. I did not hear back from them. At best, the other companies were friendly enough but had a solution that was remedial or just lame. Jason, on the other-hand had exactly what I wanted – a comprehensive, non-conventional solutions to a multi-variant problem to preserve and modernize with and attitude of “we can figure this out.” Golden West was not the cheapest solution but they were the best.While working here the team showed three highly valuable qualities – 1.) they loved to talk about what they were doing & why and the quality of products, 2.) they showed up smiling with a positive attitude, I could hear them laughing as they worked 3.) they really tried to be respectful and modest.Manny rattled off several advanced features of this new model of Combi boiler they were installing. Joseph was happy to discuss the programmable thermostat and separately even made suggestion about how my dishwasher was piped. Ultimately, I will geek-out with my engineer friends for the next several years about all the information and data Jason told me about hydronic systems. -I’m going to brag about my combi boiler's sensor system at Christmas dinner.It was evident that the team hadn’t done this exact solution before. (But, really, neither has anybody in Denver.) I think they learned some lessons that they’d do differently next time – maybe do a little more detailed pre-planning and it’s always a challenge to keep aesthetic details in mind. However, these guys should be proud of tackling this challenge with such gusto.You really can’t find contracting companies with employees this devoted to doing a good work. Most contractors do a calculation about how they can make the most money in the shortest amount of time -not concerned with learning anything new - and they calculate how little quality they can return and stay in business. Jason and team demonstrated that Golden West sees the value in keeping an extraordinary name for themselves. I will be a returning customer and I almost never say that when a contractor leaves.
