Exorbitant material charges for weekend dispatch!!!

I recently contacted Airmakers on a Saturday morning. I was told that they would charge a $148 dispatch fee which was substaintially higher than their normal rate since it was a weekend. Knowing this upfront I was ok with that and they came out that day to repair my unit. The tech was nice and began performing the work. He stated that I was low on R-22 refrigerant and then told me how much the refrigerant cost. I questioned the high price and I was told that since it was a Saturday they charge more for parts! What since does that make? I was already paying a higher dispatch fee, but to charge more money for parts? This is the exact same refrigerant they sell Monday-Friday. I was charged $400 for the 2.5 pounds of R-22 ($550 Total). I contacted another company to see what they charge and it was a total of $340 (including weekend dispatch).

I contacted the service manager about this and he politely suggested I use the other company next time. I will be sure to do that but I wanted to let others know of the hidden charges before they make the same mistake I did.

I have 2 units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, and the 3 guys, Gio, Daniel, and Fabio, arrived on time and replaced everything quickly and cleanly. The price I got from Rural beat the competitors price by about $1K. I've used Rural for a number of years for service and they've been a good service company. The last tech, Ken, did a great job and was very professional. Didn't realize ants could short your AC unit, but he showed me otherwise.

Just had Gregory Bunson out to perform my bi-annual HVAC maintenance. Prior to the appointment, I received an email, phone call and text reminder letting me know Gregory was on his way. Gregory was on time, professional and thorough with my service and even identified a minor problem which was quickly resolved no-charge based on my maintenance agreement. Beyond the system service was the level of respect and professionalism that Gregory endeavored to provide. He put on shoe covers before entering my home, turned off lights when he finished and took the time to provide a detailed explanation of what he did and the status of my systems. Great company did great work

I had been having a very difficult time with HVAC contractors making band aid repairs every year or so to the HVAC system in my home. I answered a small ad that Sonny's had placed in the Virginian Pilot classifieds and ultimately purchased a brand new heat pump and air handler from them in 2012.

My entire system has worked perfectly from day 1 and kept me warm through the brutal winter of 2015. I have no complaints; Sonny's was (and still is) honest, fair, and their prices are reasonable.

I have Sonny's maintain my system and their servicemen are timely, courteous, and clean.

Went with another company that did not require an upfront service fee
