I've been a customer for decades, the company has certainly has had it ups and downs, I believe they are headed back up if they keep service representatives like Curtis. I feel like I actually learned something and got an excellent maintenance call as well. Curtis answered all my questions and helped me understand what to look for with future calls.
A company is only as good as their service folks so hopefully they will realize that and keep good folks on board.

Contacted Bolton to put in place a re-circulation pump on my hot water line. Frank the technician (courteous, prompt, respectful) completed the work in less than one (1) hour and 30 minutes.
The pump listed retail at $360, tubing and tee est. $50 max.
Why did the Brian the service manager proceed in charging me $1479.98 (the estimated price). Labor, disconnecting my hot water line, purging the tank, placing the pump in-line, installing a tee under my sink.
This is a prime example of a company who gouges customers, whom employs a service managers who has absolutely no people skills, and has no ability to separate logic from the non-reality.
I would not recommend this company.

I have both invoices, mails, and recorded conversations that clearly express the act of trying to take advantage of the customer.
To add insult to an already injured situation, the receptionist Kelly called me the next day of receiving the severely reduced invoice and made an attempt to collect...all the while - the payment was sent via US mail the same day of receiving the more realistic invoice.
Again, if you do not want to share my pain...avoid this company!

As part of our maintenance contract with Bolton Services Curtis Snipes came out for our air conditioner inspection. He called before his arrival, was on time and introduced himself with a smile-that by the way he had on all day. After maintenance he noticed that instead of cooling the unit was putting out heat. The problem turned out to be the control box, that had to be replaced and some faulty wiring to the control box that had to be replaced. All told Curtis was here for about 7 hours. I think Bolton Services should be properly proud of having an employee like Curtis that stays with the job until it is done right, keeps the customer informed and cheerfully represents the company.

We have been with Bolton Service going on 26 years, and some Technicians are good and some are just ok, but Bill S. is GREAT ,AND NOW I HAVE FOUND A SECOND ONE THAT HAS BEEN TO MY HOUSE ON THE LAST TWO VISITS Aaron S. he always goes beyond what any other Technician has ever done in the past. Aaron S.always explains things and the other day while working on the Outside AC unit he smelled Gas and I had to call DOMINION ENERGY to get a Technician out to fix the Leak, then Aaron found where the contacts on the relay was not making sound connection and was able to find a problem and fix it before it broke and would have caused more money and headaches.
I would like to have AARON S as my PM Technician from here on. AARON has a great work ethic and it seems like that is becoming more rare today.

Had a great experience with Bolton and Devlin. Came in the middle of the night and fixed a water leak in the yard that was costing me 100s of gallons of water. Great attitude and very helpful!

Curtis was exceptional. Walked in the house and from the start was there to be efficient sand not waste time. He told me he likely knew the issue from the start and fixed it in a matter of time. He asked if we were interested in a service agreement with zero selling and I said yes. He was done in less than 45 minutes. Thanks to Bolton Service and the staff, the house is once again cool.

Reese did excellent service on both our boiler and A/C this week. He was very thorough and found issues that needed to be addressed on both, that our previous service company had missed...he spent extra time with me, showing me how to properly drain the boiler, and understanding why it needed to be done in order to best maintain the unit. My experience with Bolton was EXCEPTIONAL.

We had another company come first (which we had seen advertising recently on TV) to help with our rather simple electrical repair request. The other company was a total rip-off with the diagnostic and repair quote (giving a crazy high quote for repair before they even knew what was wrong!). So then we called Bolton as they have been a well known Raleigh company for years. Tim the Bolton electrician was thorough, polite and professional. We felt taken care of by Bolton (unlike taken advantage of by the other company) and will always call on them first for assistance in the future.

Aaron was awesome! Came through and fixed all issues in a super timely manner. Highly recommend anyone who needs hvac service to Bolton because they’re understanding and awesome!

David and his team were on time and professional. I used another major Plumbing Company in Raleigh first and that was a big mistake. The first company sent out three technicians, put two holes in my bathroom wall and ceiling and showed me a video of the leak and said they would have to take out the bath tub to fix the leak, but said they could not do it and after $900 left without fixing it. I should of called Bolton first and will not make that mistake again. David and his other technician (Forgot his name sorry) took a look at it and said they could do the job no problem and were done in under 2 hours the day before Thanksgiving. Thank you Bolton Team I will use you in the future and recommend you to all of my friends and co-workers!

Curtis Snipes is a great professional. He came to my home and was very friendly with my family and animals. He did a great job and I hope we see him again. Just for maintenance hopefully. We have a very old furnace.

Kenny showed up on time to do the repair work on my two toilets. I just wanted you to know that Kenny did an outstanding job. Kenny was professional, engaging, efficient and informative. Not only that but he showed real respect for my situation. When I let him know that I would be keeping my distance and wearing a mask, he showed no displeasure. Add to that, he came into my home wearing a mask (which I did not request); and he wore his mask anytime he was in my home.
So Kenny fixed the running toilet, starting working on the leaking toilet but let me know he could replace that one TODAY. So now I have two working toilets! Outstanding!

Camden was very helpful, and an all-around amazing worker.

The furnace was not working the next day - inside temp was 61 degrees although thermostat was set at 72 degrees. Called and same technician arrived to correct the malfunction.

Bolton is the only HVAC company that we have ever used in over 31 years of living in Raleigh. We have installed many systems and keep a maintenance agreement with them. Jerry is knowledgeable, friendly, reliable, hardworking, and respectful. His staff all have the same high standards. They know what they’re doing and won’t leave before the problem is solved. Camden is dear to us.

Frank and Kenny did a wonderful job on our master bathroom installation. We hired them to install a new shower head in our existing shower. The job required removing some existing drywall, running new pex piping, and installing hardware through the existing shower tile. They did a great job with minimal disruption to the existing walls and shower. They also were able to do the entire project in a single day and for half the price I was quoted by other service providers. Highly recommend!

Brian was also wonderful in responding to my questions prior to hiring Bolton.

Have used Bolton for replacing a water heater (7 years ago) and other plumbing work. Prompt, professional, plumbing service, that listens to your specs (asked them to install a 2nd sacrificial anode to prolong the water heater life, they used the water heater brand and model that I wanted, and followed my choice of plumbing material for other work).

Great Experience! Billy came out on the service call, showed up early and we discussed options for a major repair to restore water service to my home. After discussing options, he was prepared to get to work, keeping me informed along the way. He fixed the problem quickly, and let me know what options I should consider moving forward related to the fix. All around, great experience. I recommend them highly. Very pleased.

Bolton Construction was there with us through a renovation several years ago. They were prompt, courteous, professional and knew what they were doing. Naturally when we moved into a new place, we called on them again to be our go to company for plumbing, heating and air. Again, we couldn't have been happier with everything they did. The serviceman explained very clearly to us what was happening and what needed to be fixed - no game playing. Anyone needing some work done or wanting a yearly service contract on their units, don't hesitate to call Bolton; you won't be disappointed.

They discriminate

Curtis Snipes is a terrific technician for both AC and furnace service. Last summer he really saved us when he came to replace a pump on our ac when we were at the beach and we had a house-sitter. Our sitter had a tight schedule but Curtis was really flexible and found a time when both could meet up and get it done before we returned. And now today, a summer later, he saved us from record high temperatures and no AC again by slotting us in as soon as he had a cancellation a full 6 hours earlier than we expected anyone to be available, and then by quickly and expertly diagnosing our problem as two blown 25 amp fuses and one bad capacitor in our 1987 Trane. It was fixed and cooling in less than half and hour after he arrived. He always calls before coming and is so polite. Best of all, he really knows his stuff and has the right parts stocked in his truck. And if you do diy like I do and want to really know what is wrong with anything hvac that isn't working,, he is willing to show you and explain just what he is doing Thank you Curtis!

I had a hot water heater emergency and a new hot water heater installation in the same 24 hours. Fortunate to have that handled so professionally and so quickly. I have worked with Bolton for 20 continuous years now, plumbing, electric, and hvac. They are clear about the proposals, and the work they need to do. And they always clean up after they are done! Billy and Brian and Emerson were great yesterday. Highly recommend!

They installed an electrical outlet in my floor. Ruined the brand new floors. Awful experience. Worst construction experience I've ever experienced in my life. They discounted it but I still paid WAY more than I should have for such a small job. Will never use them again.

**Updated - I paid over $1k for 2 electrical outlets. And they made multiple mistakes. Not just one. And that price was discounted only after I pushed for a discount. But I still paid $1k. Yes, I declined to talk to them because I have no desire to deal with them ever again. The only thing they could do at this point is to waive almost the entire fee because it was that awful of an experience but I'm sick of talking to them.

I called Bolton to replace our old, leaking water heater--they quickly scheduled our appointment that morning. Billy S. was punctual, knowledgeable and courteous--super nice guy. He explained our options with no pressure toward a particular heater. I would highly recommend Billy and Bolton if you're looking for a new water heater!

I had a gas leak on Saturday and there was a guy who responded to SECU RE promptly. Well, I came home Monday 3/18/19 to no heat. I called SECU RE, but after not hearing from anyone, I contacted Bolton myself. I was given 3 different times that someone contacted me. The first two times were before I called to SECU RE about the problem. Next, I was told a time and that they left me a voicemail. I hate being lied to especially since I have kids and they're home without heat. Nevertheless, nobody ever showed up or called. I give my hats off to the person who showed up and performed on Saturday, but tonight my children and I are still suffering without heat.

3/20/19..... If it wasn't for Mr. Curtis, the guy I mentioned above, with the help of Thomas, my original star would have stayed a one star. I didn't know the review was based off the worker and that the answering service is a contractor. If, I was you Bolton, I would change the answering service company.

3/27/19 I want to thank Jeffrey, Thomas, and the other guy that came out last week and installed me a new HVAC system. Today the inspectors came and everything passed. I want to thank you guys for coming out and handling the issue I have been dealing with since I moved into this unit.

I had a difficult repair to be made when the sewer line from my house completely failed. Cary Plumbing rejected the business, so did Pipetechs and Waco. But Bolton was willing to work with me, provide advice, recommend a solution, and then deliver as promised on an extremely reasonable budgeted quotation. Great management by Brian. Great field service by Billy. They have earned my future business.

I have a service contract with Bolton. I would like to take this opportunity to commend Curtis for the excellent service that he provided me during the service visit. He took time to diagnose the problem with the heater and explained exactly what was wrong. All the individuals from Bolton services I interacted with over the phone and in person provided exceptional friendly Customer Service. Larry provided a prompt and reasonable estimate of the work on Friday and was pleased to have the work schedule for the following Monday.I was very happy with the work done and completed by Chris and John. Kelly was very prompt to respond and send the information I requested the inspection report and the invoice. Overall very pleased with my experience working with Bolton.

For about 10 years I have had a service contract with Bolton Construction Service. One of my cooling units is 13 years old and the other is 22 years old. The heating units are also over 10 years old and with their annual service all 4 units continue to operate as new. Their technicians are well trained and courteous and will not try to sell something you don't need. About 5 years ago I had an emergency plumbing problem on a hot summer weekend and their technician was here within an hour after I called and fixed the problem. Providing great service at a reasonable price has kept them in business 93 years.

Good service, kept me informed, very pleasant and resolved the issue. As a bonus, was able to arrive earlier than planned.

We have used Bolton to help with our indoor plumbing and have enjoyed their high quality of work. So, of course, when it came to an outdoor spigot, we knew we could count on them. Eric G. did a great job of wearing a mask and social distancing at all times, while also discussing our issue, answering questions with great knowledge, and making sure we were satisfied with his service. Thank you, Eric, for coming through for us in these tough times. We hope our masks helped make you feel comfortable as well, and we hope you stay safe and healthy for many years to come!

The plumbing work Eric Grimes performed was actually pretty good, however the customer service provided by Eric and his manager Brian Wood was not. I paid $105 to Bolton in “diagnosis” fees 2 days before this plumbing work and I would think that was the purpose of the diagnosis and the results would have determined what needed to be done and the level of effort. I asked for a quote on the cost, and he said it would come in at $750 for the plumbing work for the entire job parts and labor. My wife had no idea until Eric came and asked for her credit card and she was not provided a receipt, even though she asked for one. He said it would be emailed to us. It took multiple requests over several days before I finally got a receipt and when I saw the invoice and amount charged on our credit card I was surprised at the total invoice in the amount of $1173.34, a 56% increase ($423) above what we had been quoted, with no explanation. I called and asked Eric for an explanation but he would not provide one, said I needed to talk to Brian Wood, the service manager. I asked him multiple times, and then he referred me to Brian Wood, and it took five days before you finally got back to me with an explanation. Brian stated I looked over the invoice and spoke with Eric and there was some work that was above standard. They had to run new water lines to facilitate the install which required an additional man and material to get it done. With that being said I do feel like the charges are in line with the work performed. I felt strongly that I should have been entitled to a full refund of the $423. Brian did refund $110, but I still feel strongly that the increased level of effort and cost should have been discussed during the diagnosis phase which we paid $105 for, and discussed with me and my wife on site, and the charges explained. This is why I believe that a full refund of the remaining overcharge of $413 is still appropriate. We have been Bolton customers for over 25 years and we have never been dissatisfied as we have with this incident.

Update on this review as of 07/16/2020: I am pleased to report that I received my refund check today in the mail as authorized by Will Bolton, owner. I want to thank him for handling my customer service complaint responsibly and professionally, and I appreciate getting the refund. I am totally satisfied with the outcome, and this matter is now closed. Thanks again. Bill.

Bolton has been an outstanding company to work with. Always a positive experience from the phone call to schedule the appiontment all the way through to completion of service. They are quick to respond when we have a problem and and get us back up and running quickly.

When you have water pouring into your basement that won't stop when you cut off the main water valve, you need professionals and you need them fast! Billy Soames and Eric Grimes crawled underneath my very wet house, determined the source of the leak (which is not so easily done in a plumbed and re-plumbed 1890 home) and dug and dug in the pouring rain. I almost cried with relief when they were able to completely repair the broken pipe without having to dig a huge trench from the house to the main water line. Kudos to the office staff, Valerie and Amy, who managed to get them out for this emergency and are always understanding and ready to help. A great company and wonderful people.

Wonderful service. Above and beyond communication and customer service. Other electricians quoted me multiple thousands of dollars and used intimidation tactics. Their work was literally 85% cheaper than what I was quoted by others. 85%!!!!!!

Always get a second quote. I have used Bolton at my business and at my home and I have never been happier.

Specifically, let me shout out Larry who helped me with the contract and controlling costs. Then Chris and John show up and get the work done, not wasting anytime and being very helpful throughout. They were friendly even nice to my barking chihuahua mix crazy dog and professional. I had my own Smoke Detectors they helped to install. They were thorough but not trying to charge me more, just literally being helpful as they walked through my home inspection (as I asked) to address concerns. They were flexible and gave me ideas to save money. What I was told is that they are not commission or hourly, but salary and so they do not have an incentive to charge me more.

I told them my priority was safety and then costs. They double checked some outlets in case previous work was not to code and I feel good about the safety of my home. (of course if that changes, I will let you know!)

Will Bolton is in my Rotary Club and I cannot recommend Bolton Construction and Service any higher. Really good group.

I needed to get my dining room chandelier re-centered over my dining table, and while making an apt over the phone, they mentioned there was a $90/hr service fee, along with a $5 gas fee. I accepted and made the apt. The representative came by, and after 5 minutes of looking at my dining room, he informed me that it's not an easy job (as it had seemed), and they would have to replace the wire, thus the need for putting some holes in the sheetrock. I didn't know the job needed all that, considering I just wanted to move my fixture 5 inches over. So I decided not to do it... However, they wanted to charge me the $90 service fee regardless - even though NO LABOR was done and he only spent 10 minutes with me. I was very disappointed, and requested to have this addressed to the manager. After he talked to the manager, they agreed to have me pay half. Although very angry and feeling ripped off, I agreed to pay half. When I look at my receipt, they marked that time & labor started at 12pm -- when he didn't even arrive to my house until 12:40pm! Seriously!?!
Now I know my money is going to their nice shirts they wear and nice trucks they drive. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

I was having my AC units serviced, Aaron and his assistant did a great job. Aaron spotted a problem with my humidifier and a component which was on its last legs. It would save me money by replacing the part now and avoiding another service call fee. Aaron was very knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend Bolton and Aaron.

Mother received notification from the city that there may be a possible issue that's causing a slow leak for her water meter. Reached out to Bolton Service that evening and by the next morning, we had a technician, Billy Soares, at our home to assess the concern. Billy was more than professional. He was polite. He was courteous and when reviewing the cause of the leak and the price to repair the issue, he transparent and explained everything fully. Moreover, Billy was quick in resolving the issue! I would highly recommend Bolton Services for any plumbing concerns that you may have with your home.

I just had a brand new A/C unit installed at my house and I was so happy with the overall experience that I wanted to write a positive review to thank Bolton's Company for going above and beyond! In the heat of the summer my A/C unit broke completely and this company quickly came out to my house, helped me pick the best unit for my needs and installed a much better, more efficient unit, and stayed all day to get the job done. Our experience with Bolton Services has been great from start (purchase of my Trane HVAC package unit 13 years ago) to recently, when we started having some issues with the unit. The unit is 13 years old and in relatively good condition. But recently, we lost heat and the problem with the unit was not readily identifiable. In the end, the technician Curtis, stuck with it and got us back up and running. The experience was very trying, as we did not have heat in a cold spell, but Valerie in the office, was fantastic in getting technicians to our home quickly. Initially, the technician Thomas, who came out first, was very knowledgeable and was able to get us up and running, but the problem was complex and needed other sets of eyes to help id the problem. Jerry, a supervisor, also came out with Curtis, on the second day, and it was really appreciated and reassuring that Bolton was going to solve this problem, which Curtis did. Curtis is a star in my book. I would recommend Bolton without any hesitation.

I hired Bolton Service to service my home HVAC systems. Aaron S. performed the service, along with an apprentice. The entire service call was performed professionally and on-time. Aaron knowledgably answered all my questions, and he offered reasonable maintenance suggestions. Overall, the experience left me favorably impressed.

Devlin was so Personable and explained in Laymen's Terms what the problem was . He had it resolved right away. I would definitely call them again and request Devlin.

Bolton’s service and expertise were excellent, and I have finally found someone who can work on my rather complex high efficiency HVAC system. The company that originally installed it (Newcomb) had made repeated repairs to the furnace each winter over the past few years, but never fixed the problem with the 3-speed fan ramping up to 100% too long and too often. Their last two technicians admitted to me they were not trained for that type of furnace after they spent about 6 of 7 charged hours in their truck making calls to their supervisor and waiting for him to return their calls to tell them what to try next. Curtis and Jerry found the problems, and it is working better than it has in years. All of their folks have been courteous and responsive.

AAron was a very good service employee and explained an update to my main heating and cooling unit downstairs. I am considering this addition.

I have a HVAC service agreement with Bolton. Curtis came out with his very pleasant disposition on a very hot day. He explained what he was doing every step of the way. He answered every question and was very informative. He even cleared some weeds that was behind the unit and got rid of a snake. Now that's some kind of service! He informed me that my capacitors were not doing what they're supposed to do at the rate they're supposed to do it. He explained exactly what all that meant. I got new ones. I didn't feel any pressure to purchase. I knew they were the original ones for the unit. All and all, I had a very good experience with this company and their representatives.

So impressed and happy with my service from Bolton today! The scheduler was very courteous and I was able to get a same day appointment. My service provider, Eric, called to verify 20 minutes before he arrived. Eric was able to not only fix the problem that I had requested service for quickly and efficiently, he also discovered the reason for two other issues we have been having. So relieved that they are both something that can be fixed! Eric is very professional and knowledgeable about plumbing and HVAC, and was so considerate to always wear shoe covers in the house.

Brian came to my flooded basement around 10 pm on our last below freezing Friday night. He checked everything thoroughly and figured out how to diagnose the source of the problem creatively. (There were no burst pipes.) Brian's attention to detail and diagnosis allowed me to peacefully turn back on my downstairs heat for the night. When he finished the job on Saturday morning, I knew I had a star for a plumber!
