Ground Up Services Plumber
We built our house 15 years ago, and one of our three water heaters starting giving us problems last month. (That's pretty good!) It would start out hot, but would run lukewarm within a few minutes. Researching it, it looked like a dip tube, which is a very minor repair, but with the age of the unit, we wanted to just replace it.

I used one of those sites to get quotes from several companies. Most were quick to call, with some giving quotes over the phone and others coming out, but they were ALL much higher than I expected. I tried calling all our local plumbing companies. I ended up getting about a dozen quotes, and they ranged from $1275 to $1685, except for one that was $2503.

Then I searched on Craigslist and found Brian's post there. He was advertising $640 for a ground floor install or $740 for a second floor (like mine). That was so low that I had to call to make sure that wasn't JUST the labor charge. He confirmed that was the whole price. The only surprise would be $15 per line if any of the lines needed a flex hose installed.

Brian was delayed getting here, but he was proactive about letting me know when he would be there. Most of the other companies just gave me a 4-hour window (just to get a quote!) and if he had done that instead of setting a specific time, he would have been inside the window. I was flexible on the time since I work from home, so it wasn't a problem at all.

Unlike most companies (who sent out two guys, just to do a quote), he was working by himself. You can tell he had a lot of experience by how easy he made it look to get the water heater upstairs and the old one down. He had the new one installed, the old one loaded on his truck, and everything cleaned up within 90 minutes of the time he arrived.

One line needed a flex hose installed. My total bill was $747. That was over $500 less than the next cheapest quote, and less than 1/3 of the highest one. And the ironic thing is that the water heater he installed was the EXACT same model that the $2503 company quoted.

With two other 15-year old water heaters in my house, I know who I'm going to call when the next one needs replaced.

Michelangelo Plumbing & Leak Locating Plumber
I was suddenly having hot water come out of my cold water valves and after one plumber assessed it, I thought I was looking at more than one leak under my slab foundation and thousands of $$ of repair or rerouting. I decided to get a second opinion, and was referred to Michelangelo Plumbing. Thank God I thought to follow my brother’s advice, he’s a plumber in SC, and investigate further. After a very thorough check of all systems, they determined that the pressure was stable, so looked further and found that an old recirculating pump had been started up and was malfunctioning, sending hot water throughout the entire house!!! I’m so thankful to them for a thorough diagnostic test and a reasonable charge for the time they spent here! I will recommend them to all of my friends!! Thanks Mike and Brian!!

Drain Doctor Plumber
Once, on a routine job, I used them and got perfectly adequate results. Then, when I had them out to clear out a French drain, they did that well too but tore into my sprinkler system in the process. Aah, but keep reading; there's a happy ending.
Fortunately, it was soon obvious that something was wrong, as there was no water pressure in the house, and, upon investigation, water was observed gushing out the end of that drain.
They sent out a man(whose name, I'm afraid I've forgotten) to fix what I assumed was their mess. He found that the sprinkler installer had run a line straight through the French drain! They couldn't have missed it; they just didn't want to take the extra few minutes and few dollars to go under it! I thanked him and started turning my mind to getting it done right.
Even more amazing than the sprinkler installer's miserable disservice was Drain Doctor's repesentativer's over-the-top excellent service! He said that he wanted to put the problem to bed once and for all, so, without charging extra, he went to the nearby box store, bought what he needed, and quickly repaired the sprinkler! It was downright unfair, but I let him proceed! Anyway, I wanted to give them credit, so here we are.

Nikki's Plumbing Company - Euless TX Plumber
Called one of the big companies I used before but they would not estimate sight unseen. Couldn’t risk being hundreds off, I understand but at the end of the month really just needed ballpark for such a simple gig and needed completed same day without having to call some one else if it was too high. And I don’t have the time to do it myself.

NIKKI to the rescue. Estimated over phone, keep in mind it was a couple of simple toilet supply line shut off valves ( just note she may not be able to estimate large gigs sight unseen - and I wouldn’t either). She was prompt in communication, arrived when she estimated and made repairs so quick and done right! It took like maybe 45 minutes at most! Nikki will be my new go to plumber - Plus she is local! Support your local businesses! You should use Nikki’s for ALL your plumbing needs!!

The Pipe Doctor Plumber
Used First American Home Warranty due to a bathtub leak soaking my carpet. Plumbers arrived with boots on, walked across my carpet. Spent about 10 minutes and told me I lacked calking. I asked them to stay while I refilled the tub. They just drove away. I had the calking fixed, carpet soaked again. On my own, I found 2 screws mounting the overflow valve and tightened them. Fixed the problem. Took me 10 minutes, right in front of me. First American refunded my money when they discovered just how bad these guys are. Run, don't let them in your house.
