They will also charge you ~$80 for the visit which goes towards contract if you decided to go ahead with whatever they recommend. They did a great job, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that I got an overpriced deal. Oh well.

We had someone from Discount Plumbing come out on Saturday to clear our clogged drain in the kitchen sink. The guy who came was great. He described what was going to happen, then answered our questions about future jobs that we may call for. We felt very comfortable with his professionalism and level of service. And best of all - we can now use the kitchen sink! I would definitely call them again.

Called them on a Sunday night with a broken water heater. They came out and gave assessment that we could pay to fix it but we should probably just replace it given it was 11yrs old. By 8 am on Monday morning we had our water heater replaced…and hot water 30 min later

I just posted a photo of the new toilet Ace installed. Our house has had Ace out numerous times to resolve various issues relating to our building's age (1880's) and the shoddy DIY work of previous owners. These guys have always been nice. Upfront, accurate estimates before work begins. In this particular bathroom Ace advised us we could either keep fighting the issue or simply replace the toilet. They let me select, from the variety at the big box hardware store, for whichever toilet would meet my needs (and fit). Dude! I so wish we'd done this long ago. It looks so sweet and the flush so reliable without threatening to overflow.

J.E. Brown doesn't care what the SF Rent Board heating requirements are for buildings with controlled heating. Perhaps they're trying to save the owner some money on heating costs, but they're also creating the risk of the owner getting fined by the City Housing Inspector for violating the code.

J.E. Brown provides the heating at a building that I'm a tenant at, and they're constantly adjusting the timer so that it doesn't meet the City's code. I actually overheard a J.E. Brown employee, Al, say to my building manager that the City requires the heat to be turned on for 13 hours a day, be he knows a way to get around that. It's despicable that he's constantly meddling with my right to a heated apartment, and he's been very rude the times that I've talked to him. When I called their main phone number and spoke to a woman that worked for them, she argued with me about what the heating requirements are, even though I was reading exactly what was on stated on the SF Rent Board website. Then she told my building manager that I bullied her.

I've lived in other buildings with controlled heating, and I've never had to fight so hard to get sufficient heating because of J. E. Brown.

Of the plumbers we got quotes from, the were not only reasonably priced, but prompt, responsive, and clear in explaining the rationale between the work they do and don't recommend. Several other plumbers recommended more drastic work, but they respectfully disagreed and told us why. I respect that honesty and professionalism and would recommend them.
