This company is wonderful. They were very pleasant and sensitive during our week-end clogged sewer pipe problem. We were very stressed. Genteel Plumbers gave us confidence that they could solve our problem and did solve multiple problems in our 40 year old house. I plan to keep their phone number close-by.

I made an appointment on a Friday to have my newly delivered gas range (stovetop/oven) installed. The receptionist with whom I booked my appointment was professional, patient and efficient in getting me scheduled. I was given a window between 9am-1pm on Sunday and the technician arrived just minutes after 9am! Marcus, the technician, was also professional, attentive and was wearing a face covering. He took a few minutes to inspect the unit and understand the install then quoted me a fair price of $110 cash or $130 card. Marcus finished the installation within about an hour and even came back later in the day to adjust a small piece. All the work was done with a sense of pride and appreciation for the customer! I'm confident recommending Genteel Plumbers! Thanks!

David and Edgar explained everything very well. They were here in a timely manner and performed the task quickly. They tested their work. I’ve had a previous plumbing experience two months before, this was much more professional.

Would not recommend GENTEEL PLUMBING. They were called l to repair a pilot light that would not stay on. When they arrived, they had no interest in repairing it because I had a RHEEM water heater. They had a very low regard of RHEEM heaters. He quickly provided me an estimate for replacing the whole unit. I asked that he at least look at it to see if he could repair it. He removed the cover and exposed the unit. He pointed at the problem and said he could not repair it. He replaced the unit and the cover and charged me a ridiculous $329.00 for 15 minutes. I would highly not recommend doing service with GENTEEL PLUMBING.

Nice guys, fast professional honest

I needed an angle stop replaced on a cold water shut-off valve under the kitchen sink. The guys from Genteel were friendly, courteous and very knowledgeable. They knew exactly what to do, had all the parts they needed, and completed the job very quickly. They were also on time and the office kept in touch with and the whole experience was pleasant and professional! I will definitely use them for any future repairs!! Highly recommended!! Fast and timely response

First rains of spring and plumbers were booked. Since they were in our neighbor hood they made an extra effort to see us that day. They were pleasant and professional. They were even early! Nice to have a great plumber close by us.

I started the job myself below the sink and got stuck. David and Jerwyn were on time, professional and clear communicating fix options and costs. They fixed leak under sink and installed shower parts I had. Friendly, helpful and I learned some helpful plumbing tips!

Do your homework before hiring any plumber so you know what the job should cost.

My water bills were skyrocketing. The problem per SF Water Dept. was that my toilets were leaking. I had another company (5 Star) give me an estimate. They said all 3 toilets should be replaced and it would cost over $5,000. Then I had Genteel check out the scene. They did not try to sell me 3 new toilets. They fixed the old ones. For $540.

Quite a difference!!!

That was a few months ago. The toilets are fine, my water bills are normal-ish. Case closed.

I found Genteel Plumbers via a Yelp inquiry to fix a clogged kitchen sink drain. They were the first to respond and I was able to schedule an appointment window within 2hrs. from the call. It ended up needing much more than a hand snake to clear up. Graham and his partner were very professional. The work involved use of a hydrojet to clear grease from the kitchen drain line and the outlet was in the garage. I was concerned for the aftermath but they hosed down the garage completely and put everything back in its place, including what was removed from under the kitchen sink. Price was competitive to the other estimates I received via the Yelp inquiry. I highly recommend them and would use them again.

Genteel Plumbers is our go-to plumbing crew. Graham and his team are always prompt, professional, and polite. We had a garbage disposal that needed to be fixed/replaced. They came over, assessed the issue, and were able to estimate and replace it on the spot. (We also recently scheduled some routine maintenance with them and Marcus was super informative, proactive, and efficient in helping out with it.)

We had a nasty clog in our kitchen sink. I tried snaking it with a home snake, to no avail. I tried several plumbers, each of whom had different wild ideas about what to do. One wanted to cut through the outside of the house to empty the pipe that way -- though of course they don't handle repatching the stucco, so we'd have to figure that out. Genteel quoted a price that was higher than the others, but it turns out they were the only ones able to actually fix it. Everyone was courteous and professional and, rare to find in a plumber, punctual. You get what you pay for: maybe for a simple problem it's fine to cheap out (though often you can fix that yourself with a little googling and some tools), but for anything complicated I'm trusting Genteel from here on out. They also hydrojetted our drain line and gave a 10 year warrantee on that work.

Genteel Plumbers replaced two outdoor spigots. They responded same day, only took half hour and we have nice, new spigots. Reasonably priced and friendly service.Old fixture on left, new on right. Highly recommend.

The Genteel Plumbers have done a lot of work on my house. From installing a high end European style in-wall toilet to hooking up basic drains for a sink, he has done it all. Graham is always punctual, professional and thorough. Having found a trustworthy and quality plumber, I find myself referring him to friends and family because he will take care of you and stands behind his work 100%.

My dishwasher was inexplicably filling up with water overnight. I called Genteel to schedule an appointment. Marcus came by within the first hour of the time window. He said the dishwasher wasn't a plumbing issue, so I had him inspect all the sinks in our house. We ended up asking him to unclog one of the bathroom sinks, which came out to $289, and Marcus did a great job. The solutions for the other sink problems were too complicated for the time.

Of note, I was told there was not a dispatch fee, but Marcus mentioned that there was a $45 dispatch fee that was then waived when I asked him to unclog the sink. Not sure that I would have asked for the service if he hadn't mentioned the fee.

We had flooding from toilet and shower drain in our bathroom. Called them late Saturday night and were able to schedule someone for early Sunday morning. We will definitely be using Genteel again for any plumbing services!

The techs completed installation after a careful review of the situation and moved new fridge to be installed although the rate charged for the job was high compared other quotes gotten for basic install

Below was my original review. After they seeing this review, the company called me to apologised. I did not take calls for about 2 weeks but they kept trying. When they got me on the phone, they asked what they can do. Af the end I accepted a 50% refund of the cost of the work. So yes they do care. I would use them again as a result.

They came to plug a gas pipe which was great. But the pipe was in the ceiling and they made a hole far larger than it had to be and that I then had to find another guy to close up

We tried to fix our own drain clog, and somehow got it worse. Luckily, Joan and his associate were available within a few hours to fix it, did excellent work, and were quite professional. My only complaint is the price was a bit high, but maybe that's just San Francisco pricing.

Graham and the guys at Genteel have been phenomenal and they’ve done work for us several times over the past couple years, including a shower drain clog, bathroom sink clog, and installing a new toilet. Always incredibly helpful, prompt, communicative, and thorough - I called this morning and the technicians came out just a few hours later and fixed the shower drain within 15 minutes. My sink was stopped up and my garbage disposal was broken and my sink was smelling. I reached out on yelp to several companies and these guys responded first and willing to come on Saturday. They came on Saturday and provided a quick estimate and did the project pretty quickly. They were professional friendly and stress free and easy to work with. I recommend.

Personable, skilled crew handled some updating work. Unfortunately they finished a little early and several things were not quite right. I contacted Graham and they were back in less than an hour and put everything right. I have had good experience with them in the past as well.

Joe and his assistant were prompt, accommodating (I was on zoom meetings when they arrived and during the repair), efficient, and tidy. I did not have to lift a finger. They removed items that were in the way, returned them to their place when they were done, polished the cabinet (not a part of the repair), and left the place cleaner than they found it. Oh! Genteel is an amazing company. Super prompt service, great communication from Max and the installers were fast and friendly. They replaced my water heater on a Sunday and didn't charge extra because of weekend work.

Genteel was really good at answering the phone and getting a tech out to the house. The problem: They quoted $3800 for a water heater install, very basic took about 1 hour. I didn't shop around - didn't expect their to be variation for this service, assumed they were charging fair prices. I got curious and called Home Depot for full install for same model at same location and they quoted $2000 all in, independent plumber in SF $2000 - $2500. Would never recommend these guys if their business model is to overcharge in an emergency.

Trusted them with a serious problem in a SF rental house. They came the next day, stayed until the job was done, explained the options well, and took care of the problem with absolute courtesy and professionalism.

Wouldn’t use them again.. they told me the cost was $389.00 I feel on the floor.. The dispatcher said $89.00 to come out then a additional $89.00… if they have to unclog the toilet. He was literally here for 5 minutes … proceeded to tell me $500.00 if they have to take the toilet off.. I know things are expensive but unbelievable.
I am shocked , he said he would give me a $75.00 coupon….nice of him…

Wow! These guys are truly professionals. They were SO responsive and kept me in the loop on when they would arrive and what they were going to do before they did the work. David was the technician and he brought Yannik who was new. We needed to remount and reseal our guest toilet to the floor. They did the work quickly and it's good as new. They even answered my other plumbing questions and didn't try to upsell me on other services.

They are pretty pricey (total came out to ~$500) but there's a one year warranty on the service. And I really appreciated their communication and reliability. You can tell they are passionate about their work, and I would use them again in the future.

Marcus was our guy for the job! He was knowledgeable with estimates and worked on our needs with professionalism and expertise. I loved how they provided a good time frame for arrival and pic as our neighborhood reported scammy repair personnel knocking on folks homes in the past.

Genteel plumbers got out to my house right away on a Sunday during a big football game and they were done so fast and they did a great job and I will definitely use them again

The whole process from beginning to end was efficient, professional, and responsive. The plumbers came out in a timely manner- I received text updates including a photo of the plumber assigned to my house. They wore masks and gloves the entire time, kept more than 6 ft while we talked and very quickly took care of our plumbing disaster. Within one our our problems were solved and they cleaned up the space. I will always use Genteel Plumbers!

Genteel Plumbers has come out to assist on a few jobs and have been courteous and efficient. From the operator Max who is super upbeat and polite, to Chris the plumber who quotes very fair rates and follows-through with quality work, to Graham the owner/manager who collects the moolah, my experience has been very professional. Starting from last May 2020, Chris came out to provide a quote and matched another price, but ultimately I selected him because of his knowledge and polite demeanor.

Unfortunately, a different plumber (DM me for his name) was sent out for the second part of the job (drain replacement and garbage disposal installation) and then tried to charge me 3x the cost. Finally, I was able to negotiate to a lower but still high price (compared to the quotes I'd received). Even then, Chris had saved the day by providing key parts that the second plumber said weren't possible/available.

Fast forward 10 months to today - my tenant apparently had been dumping mop water with debris into the kitchen sink. Chris came out to dismantle the pipes, clear the drain of gunk and grease and charged me a fair price for the trouble. While he was there, he looked at an old dishwasher, quickly made sure the shower and bathroom sink were in working order and assured me that the gas smell was actually exhaust from the water heater and nothing to be concerned about after checking with his diagnostic tools.

After the visit today, Graham called to check in that I was completely happy and was pleased I'd given them a chance to make it right (after I described the less stellar experience with the second plumber). Great customer service!

Hot tip: try to buy any fixtures or appliances you want installed yourself if you can as there is an understandable surcharge if you want to source from Genteel

They addressed all my questions, worked professionally, customized the installation to my preferences where possible, persevered when installing a rim around the heater that just wouldn't fit and that the heater got accidentally damaged a little and then they completely replaced it again! The Genteel Plumbing owner Sam reached out to me after reviewing my review and comments. I spoke at length about the issues I had and Sam was very understanding and sympathetic, he is a good listener. In the end he agreed to issue a $200 credit and added a 5 year warranty for the work done to replace our toilet and toilet valve. This type of customer service is rare given my experience with other companies and as I told Sam I really appreciate his efforts with me.
Hence I have changed my rating to 5 stars !

Plumbers were on time and clear on the options for completing the replacement of a toilet and water fill valve. Frankly, the cost to replace toilet and shut off valve seemed excessive. Total time for the repair was about 2 hours total cost was $878.00. This was the lowest cost option in my case and comes with NO warranty on the work, not even 30-60 days. I find the lack of any warranty on the work after spending nearly $900 shocking. In order to get any type of warranty on the work I would have had to spend hundreds of more $$$. Lastly, the plumbers left the bathroom sink and floor dirty after they finished and left.
I doubt I will use Genteel Plumbers for any future plumbing work.

Genteel Plumbers were great! After calling multiple plumbers they were the only ones should could provide both a same day appointment on a Saturday and a free estimate. Jeremy and Allen arrived on time and were very polite and extremely helpful. They were even willing to speak with our landlord about the plumbing issues. They will also charge you ~$80 for the visit which goes towards contract if you decided to go ahead with whatever they recommend. They did a great job, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that I got an overpriced deal. Oh well.

Chris was pleasant, clear, and efficient. Excellent and quick work to not only fix a persistent clog, but also to correct shoddy workmanship from whoever had previously worked on it. The service is not cheap, but it was worth it for properly done work.

Graham and Jeremy came through and helped us find a good price and a solution to our issues. I did a bit of haggling, only because they wanted to do a better job than I could afford(or needed). Im sure Graham had to bite his tongue a couple times, but he stayed with me and was determined to help. While I tend to be suspicious of every contractor in the Bay area(mostly due to the inflated costs of most contractor work) I found Graham to be diligent, and very honest. At the end of the day, I learned a little bit about plumbing, saved a little money, and can easily recommend him and his team.

Had genteel plumbers come out to change my water heater today. Solid professional guys, great work. With good options. If you get your water heater installed they will come out and drain it for the next 5 years once a year. Pretty good deal.

Booked a three hour window to get a kitchen sink installed. They were late by over an hour, and only came out to give a quote. The plumber asked if I had the old sink to see how that was installed, after much huffing and puffing about how complex this was.

It's a sink for goodness sake that just needs to be connected.

He gave me a quote that was three times what I expected, and wouldn't tell me how many hours at what rate that was based on. We don't have hourly rates, we quote per job.

Had it done by another very nice plumber for a third of Genteel's quote.

This had to be the strangest interaction with any service provider I've had. Didn't seem to know what he was doing and then provided a ridiculous quote with no explanation.

Or they just try to take advantage of people who don't have any sense of what's involved and how long it should take.

Either way, fair warning on these guys.

Had a huge project that was overwhelming. I had no idea where to start with a remodel that needed all new plumbing. As soon as I spoke to Genteel I felt at ease. Communication was amazing from getting a quote all the way through completion. I think this is huge and Genteel definitely spend the extra time answering all the questions I had. They also do a good job staying on schedule and setting realistic expectations. As a new homeowner they really put me at ease and I look forward to having sheetrock done and then equipment installation!!

Phenomenal customer service. Jo and Edgar came to repair my bathrub spout within just a few hours of calling. They were thorough, communicative, professional and nice. They clearly knew what they were doing and they got the job done, above and beyond. David, from Genteel Plumbers replaced our toilet flapper and fixed a leak under the kitchen sink. He was professional, yet friendly, fast and left our space clean. They wore masks the whole time, which we appreciated.

We had a shower and a sink drain to unclog in two separate bathrooms. The two technicians were fast, efficient and clean. Also very personable.

David and Gregorio were incredibly efficient and professional. Covid friendly too. They gave me a fair price relative to my drain issue and done in 30 minutes.

Rescue rooter never showed up, answered my calls, or even updated me on their visit. Gen-Teel was contacted and completed within the hour.

Fast and replaced a hot water heater that need fixing.

Can't say enough good things! Middle of Covid--sewer backs up (really backed up--you would not want to know what it looked like). A weekend--and yet they were there in 4 hours! Job was to flush out the sewer and get it running. Graham's staff ran into a few snags and in minutes Graham himself was there, right on the spot, to give his expertise. Job done in less than one hour. Really, these guys are 5 stars all the way! Price was competitive but I would have never gotten anyone there that fast and finish the job on a weekend for any price. Thanks!!!!

Technician can on time and diagnosed the issue. He gave me a quote orally and was supposed to follow up with a written quote by email for the repairs. Never got the quote and Genteel never responded to follow up emails. Will take another plumber to do the work. Annoying since I was hoping to apply the service fee toward the work.

So I can say I have used Genteel Plumbing several times: slow or blocked drains, water heaters and have recommended them to my friend who has a heater problem. I called Genteel Plumbers to fix my kitchen faucet. First they are about 4 hours late. Upon seeing the faucet, they asked me what kind of faucet that I want to replace it with when I wasn't going to replace the faucet but to fix the tube. Then I told them that the tube under the sink needs to be fixed because of water leak. Their reply was that it would take 24 hours and need to shut down the water supply for the whole building to do that. It sounds like they are bluffing. Or my job is too small and not worth the trouble. I called another company. This one has a totally different attitude. The repairman came on time and had the job done in 3 hours including fixing the bathroom tub drainage. This experience makes me wonder if Genteel Plumbers' high ratings on the internet is their own invention. I wasn't going to write a review but since Genteel Plumbers sent me notices to write a review for like 5 or 6 times I decided to let them know. This is it.

We hired a service from He|| Advisor a few years back and it was a disaster. The pedestal sink was installed and the pipe wasn’t hidden. We live close to Genteel Plumbers and I gave them a call because we want to support local business. First time out, they fixed the prior plumbers dis-repair in no time. And they left the place spotless. ...Fast forward and we just hired them again to replace a toilet. The guys left the place spotless and we’re in and out in < 2 hours. They were professional, totally honest in their quote and did a great job. We’ll keep using them because they are seriously the best around. Can’t say how thankful we are for finding a real pro crew that does good, honest, clean work! Thanks team!

These guys were great. They came out on time and communicated the issue. Since they were not able to solve it without major work that we decided not to move forward with they didn't even charge for the time. I truly respect the professionalism and clearly they were there to help me solve a problem not just to make a buck. I'll be calling them for all my future plumbing needs.

We had an emergency faucet repair over the weekend in June. The customer service from our initial call with Grant the plumbers Joan and his colleague who came to assess and provide service through the completion of work were superb. It was a very anxious day for us and the repair was more then we anticipated but they did a great job and now our faucet is working great, looks good and upgraded and they 10 year GENTEEL guarantee is great. I would definitely recommend them.
