Called smelly Mels when I had water leaking from my ceiling Doug the technician arrived with a great attitude and assured us we're didn't need to worry he covered our flooring and began to remove Sheetrock and discovered we had a hot water leak he was able to repair and get our water back on if I could give them a 10 star review I would thanks smelly Mels

Not punctual. I left work early to meet them during the arranged time window. Not only did they not show up, but also didn't let me know they were going to be late. How can you trust them to do a good job, when they disrespect the customer like that?

Never fun having to replace your water heater that's leaking but SMP did an awesome job getting everything back up. Dominic did a great job replacing the heater but we ran into some issues with rust clogging up the kitchen sink and shower. Dominic and Mike took the time to get everything cleaned out and running properly.

Also same day service. Other places I called were more expensive and said they could fix same day but kept calling back and extending the time and then asked if I was free later in the week.

This company was conducted their work efficiently and professionally; the area was left in clean condition. We couldn't be happier with the quality of their work.

Kitchen faucet was shot. A slow drip. I’m pretty handy kind of a guy replaced the washers and was still leaking. Called Smp and they came out in time and replaced my faucet with the one I wanted. Fairly priced very courteous and professional. Will definitely use them again. Thx SMP. Great job 👍🏼

Mike at Smelly Mel's just made my day.

Our garbage disposal was broken and for all the troubleshooting, I just couldn't figure out how to get it to work. We were trying to get by without it, but eventually our dishwasher got backed up. What to do?

First, I called the number on the garbage disposal and thankfully they could dispatch someone to my house the next day. Second, I looked up the company on Yelp.....and was a little worried about the single review at the time. They'd already agreed to come, so I figured I would give them a chance.

The problem was a 5 minute solve and just required having a special tool to release a clog. I thought....ugh, how much is this going to charge, and the answer was nothing because Mike said it required minimal effort. I was so surprised and frankly heartened that we still have some humanity in how we treat people. Smelly Mel's and Mike have a new fan and I will definitely call them first for plumbing problems.

WOW, what a fabulous job by Smelly Mels. It was a very big messy job, roots broke our pipes on the outside of the house. We had to replace pipe from our home to the mail line in the street. They took care of everything, permits, parking restrictions for the neighborhood, digging holes, jack hammering concrete, re patching, it was seamless for us. It was also during the holidays, and the boss (Travis) were very accommodating, great communication. The workers were very efficient and sweet, I gave them water and snacks, everyday, they worked very hard. Thank you SMP, we are happy with the job and the guarantee of your work.

Called Smelly Mels for my clogged bathroom shower and they responded right away. We've used these guys for years and they always do great job.

Took a while to repair/replace shower temperature valve as none of local stores had part and once they got part it didn’t work so had to reschedule to replace. But that was done today and now it works again. Have used Mel’s for all our plumbing needs for years and always satisfied.

the guys from smelly mel's were great. our sump pump motor went out and made a huge mess in our basement. they were fast, efficient, super nice and had a smile on their faces, regardless of the mess they were navigating. i had a fantastic experience. the pricing was fair. plumping is hard work! i am grateful for their work.

The team at Smelly Mel's are organized, friendly, helpful, thorough, and consummate professionals. I had to deal with a tough situation, in which my sewer lateral was shot and needed to get fixed per city requirements. Other companies quoted me really high prices in comparison to Smelly Mel's. So the value was good for the service that they provided. On top of that, their work was thorough. They came on time, they put out good street signs, they paid the deposit to the city, they were responsive to all my calls throughout the process, and they did a very fine job repaving the property line clean out, on top of that, they got the permit signed and completed because they had good communication with the city and the public works division. I was just really fortunate to have a friend who referred me to Smelly Mel's because other companies were trying to basically rip me off. Overall, Smelly Mel's was honest, effective, and they gave me a guarantee on the pipe that was installed. No complaints, and lots of good feeling to what they accomplished.

Smelly Mel's Plumbing was introduced to me by my Realtor as she stated they are very responsive when you need their services ... BOY WAS SHE RIGHT!!! I have used them several times now ... Sewer lateral inspection, and a couple of tenant issues. From the starting line Hilda answers all the calls and will do everything possible to get a technician out for you. Text messages are sent to you to let you know your tech is on their way ... I love this! Just recently technician Issac came out to assess a flush valve issue ... he informed it it was a special order part and gave me the option of placing the order (which I did) and once the part arrived ... There he was, ready to take care of it for my tenant. Happy Tenant ... Happy Landlord! : )

Tried to scam us years ago with a video that was apparently our property that needed some crazy project. Next guy I called just came out and fixed the problem, 6 years later here I am recalling it.

During an inspection I found out that my sewer line had a crack in it… Smelly Mel’s was highly recommended and now I know why!
The ladies in the office are warm and helpful…and I am sure that is why this major job that scared me, was pushed through so quickly, they heard the panic in my voice and they took me seriously!
The workers made the job look easy with the organizational skills it took to put it all together. So, from the office to the field, it was handled both quickly and efficiently.
I will trust them with all my jobs from this day forward...thank you!

I only got an estimate with them. They were very responsible and they came at the time that we agreed. But I'm giving them two stars because their estimate was a lot higher than any other plumber.

They had a truck become available when I was on the phone, and the technician arrived within the hour. Straightforward estimate and supplies on hand made for quick repairs. I would use SM again!

Refrigerator Water Line Hook Up!

I had a clogged drain that I couldn't fix myself, so I searched and saw that Smelly Mel's was local and had good reviews. I filled out the online form (or at least, I think I did) but didn't hear from anyone by the next morning, so I called and someone was able to schedule a technician to come check out the situation. I asked what the price range would be, because I didn't know what to expect. She told me that the technician would give me a free estimate.

I would definitely recommend everyone to research prices before making an appointment, because I really didn't know what to expect and had a shock when I heard it would cost about $450 to clear out my pipes. Actually, the regular price is about $500 and it was $450 with a new customer discount.

The technician was punctual, very professional, and did a great job, as everything has been working perfectly since. It was also very easy to schedule service. I'm deducting one star because I think prices should be more upfront. There are no prices listed on their website, and as I noted earlier, when I called to schedule service I wasn't able to get pricing information in advance.

(Unrelated to this review, but maybe helpful to others: I found out later that my HOA has a service that could have done this without cost. Do your research!!)

This was work done at our rental. It was important was that it was done quickly and well. The tenant said that the person who did the work was wonderful and made sure everything was working before he left. My only difficulty was that we had nobody for the weekend.

I called them because they were close and I heard they were good. I'm glad I did. They sent Mike C. to fix my running toilet. He did a great job and cleaned up after himself to. He didn't take a long time or try to make me feel like I was not wasting my time in calling. He even gave me tips on how to possibly fixing some of the problems myself... within reason of course. I highly recommend them and will definitely use them in the future. Thanks Mike and Smelly Mel's.

I had a problem not only with my plumbing backing up, but also water coming on to my property from the neighbors. The plumber who came out not only found the blockage in my pipes, but also went the extra step to go next door and address the backup on my neighbors drain pipes. If you want to get taken advantage this is your place! Had to have a water problem that we thought was the water heater valve leaking, so we called these guys. Our water heater was under warranty and these guys charged us $1670 just for Labor for a job that only took 3 hrs (most plumbers charge between $150 to $200 per hour not $556! After changing the water heater the water problem was actually coming from the floor, so when I called up to tell them, they insisted to tell me that it was leaking into the pan, which I know for a fact it wasn't. With no proof they have ignored my request to prove that the old one was bad, and after asking for reasoning for $1670 for 3hrs of work, I have been blown off! They are taking advantage of people because they can here in the Bay! If you google lets the pic stay you will see our invoice and it even says they didn't have to do anything but drain and unscrew the old one.

My irrigation backflow preventer was a mystery to me when it started leaking. I guess 20 years of freeze & thaw finally did it in. These guys easily diagnosed the problem and fixed it same day. I had previously wanted $300 on some other umber that was merely guessing what was wrong!

I like these guys. They show up and they always solve the issue and give you suggestions for getting to the route of the problem as well and preventing future visits.

Definitely would recommend your company. In the day of service, was sent email of picture of the plumber, Doug who would be coming over.

Doug was professional and quickly accessed situation and after agreeing with invoice started job. He replaced our water heater and put in a new faucet. He cleaned up after he was done. We are definitely happy with the service from Doug and Smelly Mel’s.

I came home from shopping and found water pouring out of my garage. Upon opening the garage door, I found that my water heater was leaking badly, with water running along the floor and out onto the street. Panicking, I found Smelly Mel’s phone number and called them. They told me who would be coming and when. Donnie came out within 1/2 hour and told me that my water heater’s jacket had failed, causing the problem. He had a spare water heater in his truck and installed it within 2 hours. Donnie was great, explaining what he was doing and showing me where the hot and cold water lines were on the heater, how to turn off the water, etc. They sent my receipt to my email, along with the pictures Donnie took. I definitely recommend Smelly Mel’s!

Smelly Mel's is a great company. I hired them to replace my entire sewer line several years ago, and I hired them again to replace the sewer line at my kid's preschool. These jobs were seriously tough jobs. Both sewer lines were old, nasty, damaged, and required digging them out completely. They cut through asphalt, even digging through concrete and rock. Then they replaced and installed the sewer line with total expertise.

Because of their hard work, our sewage systems will survive many more decades. Some cities like San Mateo have a rebate program that will refund up to $5000 of the job, and Smelly Mel's has always come in with the best pricing. If you have sewer problems, go with Smelly Mel's. Total pros.

Please be forewarned. Smelly Mel's Plumbing does not deal in good faith when something goes wrong with their work. I would highly discourage hiring them for anything. We were awarded $1,000 in small claims court because Smelly Mel’s cashed a four year old check after a previous small claims judgement with them was settled. It has been a year, and they have broken the law as they have not paid the judgement. If they ever pay us what the judge awarded us, I will take down this review.

Called them on a Sunday night with a broken water heater. They came out and gave assessment that we could pay to fix it but we should probably just replace it given it was 11yrs old. By 8 am on Monday morning we had our water heater replaced…and hot water 30 min later

Your assistance spend approx. 30 minutes in replacing an about ten inch long pipe, afterwards there was still a leak in the connection of the new
pressure control I had bought. For doing this job, he wanted to charge me another $250 in addition to the $325.
