Best General Contractor in Phoenix AZ

Completely unimpressed. I called them this morning just before 9am during their business hours. Their answering service picked-up and I relayed that I wanted to simply speak to someone at the company for about 10m to determine if the project we had was a good fit for them. She proceeded to ask me several questions to gather my contact information and then informed me that no one was available. She offered to schedule a quick call, but the next available time was TWO DAYS later. I politely declined. If this is the kind of intimacy and customer service Phoenix Home Remodeling delivers, I do not plan on ever being a customer.

EDIT on June 24, 2021: After reading this company's response, I increased my rating to 3*. While the response was fair, I do think the impersonal nature of an answering service (not actual company employees), coupled with the fact that availability for a very quick initial discussion was a full 2 days later would still keep me away from engaging. If I am going to work with someone on a project, I'd like to believe that the importance of a quicker response time and a more personal, direct interaction is paramount. Speaking to a third party service tasked only to gather my contact information and mechanically schedule a ~10m call 48 hours in advance does not give me the sense that this company is eager to engage their client base. That said, given the fact that I did NOT use their services, 1* admittedly felt harsh. I wish PHR the best of luck and strongly suggest they reconsider their screening process.

I would like to give a 1-Star review but to be fair, I will give a 2-star review because the job was completed. Just as a quick overview, I would not recommend Holtzman Home Improvement.

PROS and CONS List below:

PROS:

*Bathroom remodel was completed.

*Liked cabinet finishes and style options.

CONS:

*We were given a timeline of 6-8 weeks for project completion but ended up taking 6 months.

*In contract, the introduction page says that Brandon Holtzman “… will personally meet you and visit your job site several times throughout your project to ensure quality and care is not only in the workmanship but also in our demeanor.” Never met the man; not even once.

*“Designer” which they refer to as “sales-person”, had a hard time keeping up with the demands of our project. Made numerous mistakes in terms of measurements that caused wrong products to be ordered and mistakes in the actual remodel. Assumed certain details about project without consulting us. Example: Cabinet above toilet was bigger than expected (inaccurate measurements) and overlapped on to the exhaust fan, “Sales-Person” assumed that we were just going to move the exhaust fan altogether; this would have cost us hundreds of dollars to move the fan 2-3 inches.

*Crew would show up whenever, sometimes not at all even though scheduled. Had crew show up at 6am without notice multiple times. Had to state over and over again for a start time that worked for my family; between 7-8am. Nothing ridiculous. No consistency whatsoever.

*Some of the crew did not speak English, which I absolutely didn’t mind at all. But Project manager, “sales person”, did not speak the language. I never expected to be the sole translator numerous times in person and on the phone. Because of this language barrier, numerous mistakes were made on our project.

*Crew would come to job site and not know the status of our project, therefore would ask me questions about what needed to be done, as well as certain technical details that only a professional would know (example: electrical).

*Crew would come to job unprepared and would leave to go to Home Depot for 1+ hours to grab material. Not sure if this is standard, but I believe that they should have been prepared for the day’s work at our project.
*Overpriced. Example: Updated replacement of bathroom exhaust fan that was picked up at home depot for around $45.00-$55.00 and less than an hour to install, cost almost $400.00.

*Project manager forgot to discuss details of our project to team so there were details that were left out. Example: Requested to have a shower bench installed; shower was “completed” with no shower bench.

*Project manager and “sales-person” should have communicated more in terms of our project details; numerous mistakes could have been avoided.

*Low quality of materials: tile/grout. Numerous tiles are cracked, chipped, and grout has already started to come out in chunks. Also, grout that was never wiped off, has solidified and won’t come off.

*Already have water damage; yes, water damage in a bathroom on a pony wall that neither the project manager and “sales-person” gave input on how to finish to avoid said water damage.

*Was double charged, and charged for work not done. Caught mistakes by thoroughly reviewing receipt and was reimbursed. If I didn’t catch these details we would have easily been overcharged.

*At the completion of the project you are given a 5-year warranty. We have recently contacted Holtzman Home Improvement to come and fix said damage and have not heard back; it has been a few weeks already.

*Their slogan is “People should do business with people they trust”; would not recommend.

Excellent workmanship with an eye to detail. Our historic home kitchen remodel now has the WOW factor!

When Mr. Jered came to PJHussey every work order I had was immidiately addressed and repairs were done quicker than I had hope.
Mr. Jered is very polite, proffesional, friendly, and caring and helping.
With him I wouldnt worried about any problem on my apartment.

They never called me back. They replaced 2 of my windows previously and did a great job. Which is why I called them to replace 2 more windows

Shannon and his team exceeded our expectations. We were told 8-10 weeks and they are finishing the job tomorrow which will be 8 weeks from starting. We had most of the house remodeled and throughout the work the job site has been kept neat and clean enough for us to live in the house during the whole renovation. Shannon and all of his employees have been responsive to requests, clear in their communication and have shown up when they said they would. Renovations are expensive and stressful so having a reliable contractor is an enormous relief. I would highly recommend Five40 Remodeling.

Installed all new windows. Windows were put in quicker then expected. Very good quality and great workmanship. Would definitely be using this company again.

Rick was great to work with. He showed up every day and on time. Finished the job in the number of days he said he would. Plus he also did a great job repairing our broken down outdoor BBQ island. I will definitely use Handyman Connection again.

One never knows what life will throw your way but along with challenge one often meets kind souls. Faced with an in-wall plumbing leak including damage to my kitchen island cabinets, I met Ruben from Matador Construction. Ruben is an excellent Project Manager with hands on knowledge of construction. He, along with his entire team, were professional and caring as they worked cohesively to coordinate with my insurance carrier and rebuild my kitchen island wall and cabinets. All work was performed on a priority basis, while maintaining quality of end product. I would highly recommend Matador Construction as they exceeded all expectations. I am forever grateful!

Project Construction is an amazing company! Robert took the time to understand my renovation goals and my budget before we started the project. His team was always responsive to my needs and the project was completed on time.

Talavera did a complete remodel for me from floor to ceiling. It was a big project and I was anxious about starting it. Larry walked me through one step at a time. I love his “can do” attitude and attention to detail. His entire crew has the highest of standards. They really do the work as if it were their own home. Larry is the perfect combination of design sense and practicality! I would use Talavera again in a heartbeat!

After almost proceeding with another fabricator, I called Daniel at Diamond Granite. They are on the recommended list of fabricators at Arizona Tile, and Daniel came out almost immediately. It was a very through discussion and he provided my quote on site at the conclusion of our meeting. Mike came out next to do the templating. This was a great experience as they use lasers and software to build the templating on a PC. From there they will take pictures of your slab and position the images on the template so you see your kitchen layout before a single cut is made. The installation crew was on time and did a great job! I highly recommend Diamond Granite. Thanks again.

Did a full remodel on my clients house before listed! I was not expecting that remodel project to be done so fast and finishes to be on point! Good work!

Nick and Mustache Approved Remodeling has been great to work with. They were professional, friendly, and honest. We had them lower a bar top, and replace our counter tops and install a back splash. Everything looks great and we will definitely use Mustache Approved Remodeling in the future.
