We have used Mr. Dodd for over 30 years because we can always rely on excellent service. He has completed several HVAC jobs for us during that time. When you call James Dodd Heating Cooling and Plumbing, the phone is answered by his wife Carolyn. With her pleasant manner, she does a thorough job getting detailed information about the HVAC problem. When Mr. Dodd arrives, he has a base of information to assess the problem. He then prepares a detailed work order including the material needed to complete the job, the amount of time to complete the job, and the cost.

Over the years, Mr. Dodd has replaced an entire HVAC system in an older house we owned, completed a tune-up on an existing system (several times), replaced just a part of an HVAC system rather than the whole system, and this week, replaced a gas hot water heater for our home.

Several years ago, Mr. Dodd hired his grandson as an assistant. The two work as a great team. So, when you call Dodd Heating Cooling and Plumbing, the same team arrives to do the job every time.

Our latest plumbing problem had the team arrive, check the type of water heater needed, and locate where the water heater was in the house. The Dodd team was back in a short period of time. They removed the old water heater, installed the new water heater, and hauled the old water heater away. From start to finish, the job was completed in a timely fashion.

When Mr. Dodd left to purchase a new water heater, he could have easily stopped at a nearby Big Box store. Instead, he went to a wholesaler and purchased a higher quality water heater at a much lower price.

Terry was great. We had an old downdraft range that we were replacing with a new one that does not require a downdraft. He removed it and patched up the vent and placed the new range. He walked us through everything that he was going to do and made sure he got our approval. It looks and works terrific. I would recommend this company and definitely will use their service again, very friendly and knowledgeable.

The Church of St Therese was hosting the homeless and our showers started backing up. After another local contractor came out and could not fix our issue, Sean came out on a Sunday evening and stayed until the job was done. (Clean and professional job) Highly recommend.

MAKE MR. ROOTER YOUR FIRST CALL!!!
Approximately 3 days ago I arrived at my home after driving 9hrs at around 3am to find that I had a massive leak that I later learned was my supply line. Never having had to deal with this before, I obviously freaked out and got the water turned off. Later that morning after calling multiple plumbers local to the Norfolk and Virginia Beach area I had one come out from a different company (NOT MR. ROOTER) that immediately wanted to charge me $3.5k just to break up concrete and look for the leak. He did not turn the water on, or so much as shine a flashlight on the area I said water was coming from. The next company wanted me to do leak detection through a 3rd party first and then have them do the repair, the leak detection was quoted to be about $500, most other places charge much less.

This is significant because Mr. Zhane Albrecht from Mr. Rooter not only found the leak that was actually located above ground, but explained to me how the damage occurred, why it occurred and how he was going to fix it. This guy is the walking epitome of customer service and satisfaction, he wasn't pushy and you could tell he was advising on matters as if it were his own home which speaks volumes to his character as a professional that cares about people.

Rarely is it ever a good circumstance to have to call out a plumber, but through the unfortunate issue I had, I was thankful I had somebody knowledgeable and honest enough to see me through to the other side WITHOUT trying to rake me over the coals. Thanks Zhane, you're the man!

He is very quick to take care of our tenants and he even suggests more efficient ways to handle a job, which my owners really love.
