My purpose in writing a bad review of Power Plumbing in Mission Hills, San Diego, CA is express my experience for future clients on the tactics they used to get a job by quoting a low price without a written estimate and then finishing the job and charging much more than they quoted. I called Powers Plumbing for an estimate to take out our old wholehouse water filter and put in a new one which we had bought. I had worked with Powers 16 years and trusted them. They also quote their hourly labor rate which we like. Unbeknownst to me they had sold their business to new owners.The plumber arrived and looked at the job and quoted us 4 hours of work $756, and said he could start immediately as he had installed many of the brand we had bought. He said he had all he needed in his truck to do the job. We said fine and went inside. Later he said we needed a new water pressure gauge, and I drove and got a new one which he installed and charged an additional quarter of an hour for that.When he finished and we asked the total figure, he quoted us $1,428.48 or $579.27 more or 41% more than he had quoted us. He said the difference was all the parts he used and he did not use the parts that came with the unit we bought. He never once mentioned he was going to use all new expensive parts or quoted a price. If he had told us this and given us a quote, we would not have used him. We paid him but after he left, we realized that he was dishonest in his estimate to get the job and we were conned! The next day there was also a leak from the pipes he installed. I called three times to talk to the owner about this, but he never called back and after calling and emailing to get a written invoice, we finally got a written invoice. About 7 days later someone called, and I expressed that the installation was leaking, and that we felt we had been conned. He said he would send someone out to fix the leak and that he would get back to me. When he got back to me, he offered us a 10% discount or $140 which I refused.What showed me that they are not an experienced, honest, and professional company is that he thought that it was perfectly fine the way they jacked the price up after the job was done in order to get the job and did not give a written estimate at the beginning of the job. We had a contracting business for years and would never have done this.Their work was good except for the leak, but make sure they give you a written estimate with a written guarantee (this will could take 3 or more days) before you let them start the job.

I have used Powers plumbing for almost 20 years, and I am never disappointed. Their knowledge, professionalism, and courtesy is greatly appreciated! Today I had a real emergency and they responded in an expedient and helpful way. They were at my home in a few hours. This kind of service made my day!

Friendly and very capable service work, with patient and adept plumbers. Fixed the leak in short order with no issues or complications. We’ve used Powers Plumbing before and have always been pleased with their responsiveness and fine work.

Powers Plumbing replaced the laundry box in my laundry area. Luis did excellent work, was courteous and professional, informed me at all stages of the project, and completed the repair quickly and efficiently. I highly recommend Powers Plumbing, and especially Luis, if you need any plumbing repairs completed.

I have an old gas floor heater that wasn't working anymore. I had almost given up on getting it serviced as no one wanted to work on it. I came across Powers Plumbing's website where they talked about working these older heaters. Most HVAC companies want nothing to do with vintage heaters and want to sell you an expensive whole house HVAC system. Living in an old Craftsman style house--that old heater is part of the charm and its quiet warmth adds to the nice wintertime environment. In short the crew came out and fixed it without problems saving me having to do a whole house heating upgrade. They were friendly and experienced. I would not hesitate to use this company in the future.

I have a 1939 house that has taps and valves from the 70s . I needed a part Home Depot etc sells an alternative but I wanted the same fitting or valve. No where else had it and when I brought it in Jason told me exactly what I needed and . I was happy to have it replaced the old one put a new one in place . Like for like . Longest part of doing the repair was finding plumbing shop that carried what I was looking for. They have a lot of older style fixture there and I will be going back

I called them for an estimate for work I need to have done. The technician came out and looked at everything. He seemed to be knowledgeable and was courteous and professional. However, I have not yet received a bid, so I don’t know if I will use their services.

Parts supplied. The parts manager was extremely knowledgeable about the parts we were seeking and helpful in finding something that worked from his inventory. It was a very pleasant experience to go somewhere and be treated like a valued customer by someone that actually knows their field and inventory. Took me back in time to that hometown that San Diego was in my childhood. People cared when they helped you and small businesses specialied. Thank you for so much for that. Highly recommend.

The staff was friendly and responded quickly. They fixed the issue with out problem. However the prices are very high. They charge very high prices for parts, alomst 3x- 4x what you would pay at home depot for the same parts. The hourly rate includes drive time. The rate itself is also a bit high at 180 an hour. Was almost 400 for the hour and 15mins of work. The job was the repair of a broken sprinkler pipe. Will not be using again.

I'm very satisfied with Powers Plumbing and will definitely hire them again. Jonathan did not try to upsell me or suggest any unnecessary repairs. They were great about updating me with arrival times.

Technician showed up an hour and 15 minutes later than set an expected which caused us to stress out because at 4:30 it’s double the fee per hour. Once he was here he did a decent job and I noticed later on the charges there was a charge for a bowl wax which I had to have already and only cost me six bucks at Home Depot he charge me 8.69and then listed other Supplies which absolutely none were used because I had my own bolts and nuts to refasten the toilet and so there was an overcharge there for supplies about 20. Bucks. I feel David was a but dishonest, in the extra charge.

Installed new cartridge in lab faucet and flushed tankless water heater. Courteous professional and timely. Not inexpensive but they care about delivering quality services

I live in an old house, built in 1927. Most plumbers run away screaming from the vintage plumbing. But not Powers Plumbing! They have saved the day twice: when the original fixtures in the tub/shower failed, they re-plumbed with new reproduction fixtures that blend well with the existing bath. More recently, the vintage toilet wasn’t working properly, and stumped other plumbers who insisted it had to be replaced. I was sad to lose an original fixture, and phoned Powers as I knew if anyone could figure it out, they could. David was here yesterday; he was patient, professional, and worked some plumbing magic: the old toilet is working properly again!! I should clarify that I have called in other plumbers as I live in North County, and it’s a long drive. But never again. Powers Plumbing genuinely knows their stuff! Also, their customer service is amazing; everyone has been kind, helpful, and willing to listen—even to an old lady who wants to save her antique fixtures. I won’t be calling anyone else again.

I just had the pleasure of working with Powers Plumbing a big multi-store project, and they are amazing!!! On time, professional, let you know when you are scheduled, on their way, and complete. They get all the paperwork with plenty of photos. The Office Staff is incredible!! Definitely recommend.

Very impressed with everyone I dealt with at Powers. They were very straightforward and easy to deal with. I didn’t feel they were looking for ways to increase my service or pad their bill. I originally had booked one of the big 3 providers and about fell over when I got their quote. Using Powers saved me thousands from that price. I have already recommended them to several neighbors. I needed a plumber to fix drain and water valve in tenants shower. Powers Plumbing were quick to respond and available next morning. Very professional customer service and technician. It was great having the technician that installed my exterior gas line return to hook up my outdoor firepit! David was excellent from the phone call of when he was on his way to trying to work out issues with a faulty lighter on a piece of equipment which I purchased from an online vendor. He wanted to make sure everything was in perfect working condition and cleaned up. I have used Powers plumbing for the last 6 years and regardless of the change in ownership, continue to receive great service and will be calling them for future plumbing/gas line issues.

Luis did an outstanding job replacing a broken water inlet valve to our washing machine. He, also, replaced all 3 valves that I requested on our shower. The valves now operate very smoothly. Powers plumbing gave a quote for a bathroom renovation. They were prompt and very thorough. They took their time to explain the whole process from start to finish.

Reasonably priced. Responsive. Excellent work. They ordered the parts for me. They replaced shower head and tub spigot. Added a house shutoff valve. Also, fixed a gas line and connection to my dryer. Powers is a great company under new management and it really shows! My home was built in 1953 on a slab with cast iron pipes so I am no stranger to plumbing issues. I have dealt with a lot of different companies over the years but this one is exceptional. They have new top of the line equipment, excellent customer service, punctual, thorough, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and got the job done! Highly recommend!

I had an early morning water emergency that required me to turn water off to keep the shower from running. There great yoshi and Luis worked great as a team. I had a sewer drain clog. I have an older Pacific beach home with cast iron pipes. I told them in the past I've had plumber that broke pipe. They looked at the system and decided on a plan to fix the problem. Got to work unclogged the drain and also installed a new bathroom fixture in no time. As a senior I was amazed on the professional work ethic these young guys had. I think it's a reflection on training from the company they work for. This was our first time using Powers Plumbing. We were searching for someone specializing in old gravity heaters after an SDG&E inspection deemed necessary. First company said it was unfixable as part was no longer available. We found Powers online. Due to illness of staff, we were rescheduled twice, which had us a little concerned. The day scheduled to come the best tech for our job was delayed at an earlier call. Despite it being late in the day, he came! And, the communication was fantastic letting us know. He went to work and unfortunately, it was far more time consuming than we’d ever imagined. It was dark out, and the heater is under house. We were hoping somehow he could come back the next day, but never articulated that. He actually stayed longer to finish the job. It was so late, maybe 8 pm, that we thought maybe missed him leaving. All I can say is, he was amazing!!! He went above and beyond. We appreciate it so much as the heater was out since before Christmas. So, Powers Plumbing and the technician E.B. are held in the highest regard by our family. He left, the heat was working, and he was off to another job! Thank you Eric, Gail and Powers Plumbing! Talk about turning negative to positive. Althought there were some scheduling issues and a minor billing adjustment to be made, the overall experience has me feeling happy. I was contacted by the owner Janet couple of times and they made it work. Both plumbers and parts guy were extremely professional, and I would recommend them again.

Super reliable service! We’re having issues with water leaking from our roof and couldn’t figure out how to turn off the water for the building. I called Powers and Janet was extremely helpful. She was able to give some recommendations and had a gentlemen come out and help us with all our small requests! He was efficient and very knowledgeable during the service call. Technician expressed there would be no charge for his visit as he was in my home for 5 minutes. I was subsequently charged $150 for a 5 minute visit, with no repair needed as there was nothing wrong with the appliance. Would not recommend.

As always Power does a great job. They always arrive quickly and carefully find and fix the issue at hand. I have relied on Powers for over twenty years and they never let me down.

I've been working with Powers Plumbing for more than 15 years now and have always been very happy with their service.

I used powers plumbing today. Robert came out, he is very good at any plumbing repair, he fixed my kitchen sink and a couple bathroom sink stoppers. Super nice guy and the owner (Janet I think) answered my call on the weekend and was very friendly. . I recommend this company. I haven't gotten a bill from them yet but they charge by the hour which I respect. I had Anderson plumbing come out for a wax seal in my toilet about a week ago and they tried charging me $475. I threw a fit, that is highway robbery. For a wax seal, it wasn't even installed correctly. The part is $3.50. What a rip off. I hope Powers will be more reasonable since their guys are paid by the hour and not commission like Anderson. Powers just seems like a good company and that's hard to come by these days!

Powers Plumbing company is rad. They came over to my house when I had no hot water and said my water heater needed to be repaired. It was not that costly and they did not try to sell me a new water heater or anything. Plumber was clean and efficient. I was very impressed with their company and would easily recommend them to friends that needed a plumber.

I have used Powers Plumbing several times and have had an excellent experience each time. They have the ability to work on older houses and do repairs on plumbing that other plumbing companies have not had the interest to work on and/or ability to work on. I have had Powers work on a couple of heater problems in two older homes where another company was called to do the job by my property manager. The other company could not be bothered to get the parts and wanted to replace the heater. I told my property manager that I had called Powers Plumbing on another job and that I wanted them to be called to do the job. Powers did the repairs and saved me from having to put in a new heater which would have cost several thousand dollars. I usually do not do many reviews unless I think that the company is in my experience excellent. Thank you Powers!

Powers Plumbing has worked on a couple of jobs for me and both times were very positive experiences. They work quickly and are fairly priced. Janet is very good to work with. Fernando just fixed a leak for me this past weekend and was very professional and knew how to fix the problem immediately.

I had a plumbing emergency on a weekend. Powers Plumbing has come to the rescue before. They are friendly, fast, no nonsense and focus on getting the issue handled. Their pricing is very reasonable. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a plumber.

Powers Plumbing has completed several projects on our home and all of them done to a high standard and most very cost effectively. They charge by the hour and work efficiently whereas many plumbers charge by the overall job regardless of how quickly they’re finished. We have been very happy with them not only because of the good work but because if there has ever been an issue after they leave, they come back promptly and address it. If they can fix rather than replace, that’s the first thing they try to do. If it’s something that should have been done differently the first time, they work cheerfully and don’t charge. In short, they act like a neighborhood business - one which understands that their long-term reputation is more important than today’s profit. I will use them anytime - as long as the ownership and business practices stays the same. Ive found them to be solid and trustworthy people.

Needed a new water heater. Powers was recommended by a friend. Can't believe how much the cost of water heaters has gone up in the last 30 years, but buying it through Powers was no more expensive than getting it at Home Depot and I didn't have to lug it home. They did a nice job installing it at a reasonable labor charge. Would definitely use them again.

This is the best plumbing company I have ever worked with. We had an emergency that they took care of immediately and at one third the cost that we had been quoted by a major San Diego plumbing company. Great technicians, superior administrators and wonderful follow up. If you need plumbing, be it for repairs, new construction, or remodeling, I cannot recommend Powers Plumbing higher. By far the best plumbing business I have been to. Very professional and extremely knowledgeable. I was working a plumbing issue with a friend and there were difficulties locating the damaged parts. Not only dis they have the parts they even had a complete replacement kit and we were able to repair both bathrooms. They are the best.

We had to call Powers Plumbing, our neighborhood plumbing company for a leak we couldn't figure out pooling in our front yard. Their response was immediate, and quick to determine the problem. They had to repair a main line under our newly established landscaping which they did with minimum disruption. This is at least our 4th great experience with Powers. I'd highly recommend them to all.

Horrendous customer service! I rarely (if ever) write negative reviews. I am a real estate agent and referred Power's Plumbing to a client to give an estimate and camera inspection. After showing up over an hour late and expressing confusion over what they were there for and everything we already discussed on the phone, they proceeded with the estimate. 3 days later, my clients received an invoice that was $120 over what the clear agreed price was and when confronted, the employee who made the mistake first said they would make it right and fix it, then the owner, after accusing me to my client behind my back of creating problems, said they would not change the invoice.I, of course, can't charge my client for this, so I let Power's know that if they really have this much lack of customer service, they can bill me (the referring agent) the excess fee and send a separate invoice if they want payment. They failed to do so after that and just called a month later to pretend we never had this conversation and try to charge interest on the original invoice.I rarely see this bad of customer service and lack of responsibility. Not only did they lose a $9k job over it, but any future business that I have the ability to refer. I'm surprised they can't see past that and would rather rip client's off. Then again, I should have seen from the negative reviews in the past that this is just how they choose to operate. Save yourself the trouble and find a different plumber.They are basically charging me for the Hour they made ME wait for their late arrival.. Almost laughable.

My experience with this company has been wholesome in diagnosing moisture buildup in my 3 story, shared wall, town home. These are real professionals setting the bar. David arrived on time full with information (of my leak) and started diagnosing the problem.Perfectly efficient diagnosing! How so? Unlike tunnel vision from which other companies have conditioned me to, David used calculated moves ruling out and exposing all the clues before diving into best clue. This method saves total job time and ensures accurate results.To wrap it up, I could have literally spent my entire savings repairing my home from damages caused by my neighbors negligence.

Robert Miller with Powers Plumbing was sent over the same day I called Powers for help with a clogged bathtub that would not drain. To my surprise, he fixed it in 20 minutes! He was clean cut, extremely polite and professional, took time to clean the area after he finished, and refused to take a tip! Now that's what I call CUSTOMER SERVICE! I will never call anyone else but Powers Plumbing!

We bought an old duplex with old plumbing and heating in 1997 and have used Powers plumbing since then. They installed new sinks and toilets in both apartments and a water heater in the upstairs unit several years ago. This year(July, Oct. and November) they cleaned out a kitchen drain affecting the two apartments, installed a new water heater for the downstairs apartment and restored our old Coleman wall furnace in the upstairs unit. Powers has always been responsive to our needs, knowledgeable about their work and honest in their dealings with us.

Powers saved the day with a total re pipe of our historic home. Bid #1 was 3 times Powers' bid. Bid #2 (one of San Diego's largest companies) the guy leveled with us and said, job too big for us now. There's a lot of work out there now for plumbers. Janet, Shane, Eric and everyone beneath them did a great job. Eric volunteered to work on Presidents' Day to keep the job on schedule. As landlords, we know our stuff and Powers' work and price were right on!

Edgar arrived on time and completed the work exactly as expected.

This weekend a pipe cracked behind the wall in our shower! It was awful but once we got the water off we were so glad that Powers Plumbing came out and replaced the pipe quickly. We hope we don't have any lasting damage but we'll see now to just hope the wood dries without an issue!

Oscar Covar arrived exactly as planned and was amazingly efficient, organized and tidy.I was concerned b/c when Eric came out to price the job he had indicated it would take a helper and a master plumber to do the job in a day. I called the office when only Oscar arrived and was assured that Oscar was capable of completing the work in a day on his own, which he did, except for the arrival of Tim to help load the old toilet (a very heavy one piece unit) into the truck at the end of the day. I am very impressed with the quality of the work. Oscar was very knowledgable and an excellent plumber. When I need a plumber in the future I will be contacting Powers.I was also very grateful that Eric came out to provide the estimate a day after I called. He also was very knowledgable and honest about what was needed and pointing out other potential issues that could be deferred without any high pressure sales talk.

I brought in my Kohler toe tap bathtub drain that had stopped working.Jason spent a significant amount of time trying to figure out what the problem might be. He said he could order me a new one or perhaps I should contact Kohler to see if it is a warranty item. That turned out to be a great suggestion. Kohler sent me a video that showed me that the problem was the gasket improperly installed.Thanks to Jason for giving the correct information to solve the problem.When I have a tough plumbing problem my first stop is the store front at Powers Plumbing.

Called to fix a faucet not properly working at my business:Plumber comes in 1st time: a new part is needed, ok, so he orders the part.Plumber comes a second time to install the part, but is not the correct one.The plumber apparently talks to my staff and tells them the faucet cannot be fixed, but it works fine, my staff accepts the explanation and the plumber leaves.I got a bill for $ 209 today. I called back the office and the person on the phone apologizes and says he is going to talk to the owner. Needless to say i told the office clerk that i can pay for one diagnostic visit, but that's it: my faucet is the same as it was before their visits.I got a call back few minutes later with apologies and sorryes, which doesn't fix or solves anything by the way, then my bill now is lowered to $160. Hahahaha. I asked why don't they come and fix the issue at least, and the clerk says on the phone that the issue i have with my faucet cannot be fixed: i guess i have a faucet with a terminal plumbing disease, lol. They are gonna have to do better than this. Here is in a nutshell my experience with this business today.

Powers Plumbing put in a new water heater for me. Did not take that long and they really had the best prices of the plumbers I called. Nothing like having hot water back again.

Whenever we need help, broken pipe, lighting the heater when the pilot goes out, toilet broken, we call and they come running. Plus, when we exchange our house, we know that if any plumbing issues arise they can call. Powers will fix it and bill us.

I called this company in what was a moment of crisis due to a water leak - ultimately fortunately everything worked out to where I did not have to use their services, but I can at least say that Jason whom I spoke with over the phone in the moment was super helpful and willing to give me some useful advice free of charge.
