I recently had an unpleasant surprise from rotor rooter. I called to schedule an appointment to have my main sewer line cleaned. Having an older house with clay pipes, this is necessary every few years.While I was on the phone I mentioned that my sewer line was just over 130ft. The length of my sewer line has been a problem in the past, as most snakes are only 100ft and require an additional charge. I was quoted $350 so have my main line cleaned. This was higher that the usual company I use but needed to have it done, so scheduled an appointment for that afternoon. My normal company couldn't get out until the next afternoon and my main line needed immediate attention.The technician arrived on time, clean cut, and well spoken. He went to work cleaning my drain. 20 minutes later he knocked on the door and said that the snake was at the end and the line was still clogged. I asked him what the problem was, collapsed sewer line? No.He needed to put on an additional 100ft section of snake to address the whole drain. The ADDITIONAL cost would be $225 (the total cost of what my normal company charged). It needed to be done, and I was already on the hook for $350 so I agreed to the additional charges, bringing my bill to well over $500. I was lucky that he just happened to have the appropriate equipment.This wouldn't have been a problem if I was able to get an accurate quote over the phone. I would have simply called another plumbing company and used that $300 I saved to take the wife out to a nice dinner. Every once in a while you get snaked and this company made me feel that way.I realize that when you deal with the unknown - car repairs, medical issues, ect there are always uncertainties. This however, was an issue that I deal with every few years and have never been surprised by it.I will say that I was Impressed with the technician himself. He was polite and knowledgeable. Even kept his cool when I became upset. I want to believe that he was not given the correct information.

I called Roto Rooter for a service technician to come out and evaluate a clogged kitchen sink. John Greenleaf showed up on the same day and provided a very competitive price quote for performing the service. John was very nice and professional and explained everything he was doing which was nice to observe and listen to. While I would want John to service this in the future I did feel bad as he was dispatched from over an 1 1/2 hr drive away. That fact didn’t impact his mood or demeanor one bit though.
