Airmakers Heating & Cooling, LLC Plumber
My HVAC unit was having an intermittent issue that was only affecting the first floor. After the unit would come on, no air was blowing through the vents. This was the case with the heat and a/c. Initially, I thought the thermostat was going bad, so I bought a new programmable one (since I had been thinking about getting one anyway), but that didn't solve the problem. I then called Airmakers, explained the issue to them and scheduled an appointment with them for the next day.

When the tech came out, I explained the issue to him again. He made some adjustments to the thermostat and eventually made his way to the attic to look at the unit. He went from the attic to the first-floor thermostat a couple of times, and after about 30 mins he said he fixed it. I go downstairs to check, and the air was blowing through the vents. He said the thermostat was programmed wrong. When I asked why it did the same thing with the old non-programmable thermostat, he said it had probably gone bad.

That visit cost me $143.18 (diagnostic, labor and taxes).

Just over 2 weeks pass and I'm having the same issue as before. I make another appointment with Airmakers, letting them know that the fix to the thermostat didn't work. It must have been intermittently working.

The same tech comes out and after doing some checks at the thermostat and in the attic, he says it's the damper. He tells me that the damper is $400, and after everything it's going to be over $500. I'm thinking WHAATTT!!! But if it needs one, it needs one. And I assumed that after everything meant labor costs. I told him to do it. The total came to $530.18.

I asked him why the part cost so much when it's nowhere near that price online. I was seeing prices from $86 to $182. The part he installed was $86 on Amazon (srv21760 replace hw damper motor). He didn't give a straight answer but mentioned something about labor being a part of it.

I didn't get to see the invoice on his tablet device he had me sign. But when I opened it up in my email (30 mins later) I realized that, that after everything statement meant adding a diagnostic fee of $89 (again). I should not have to pay a diagnostic fee again for a problem that wasn't fixed the first time. It was the same problem, just missed diagnosed the first time.

I called Airmakers to ask about the $400 price tag on an $86 part (had to leave a message). Joel called me back and in so many words said that there are other costs added into that price. I was so overwhelmed by that price that I forgot to ask about the 2nd diagnostic fee I paid. And the more I think about it, the initial $143.18 should be refunded.

530.18 + 143.18 = 673.36
for an $86 part.

Weather Master Heating & Air Conditioning Plumber
Weather Master Tech (Scotty) checked my AC system and identified two problems. He gave me the estimated cost of the repairs but suggested the entire unit be replaced due to age and cost of a partial repair. Very thorough and professional.

Raleigh Heating and Air Plumber
When I called, Diane was very courteous on the phone and scheduled a technician to come to my home on the same day. Ken was the technician they sent and he was very professional and knowledgeable. He was able to fix replace the motor of my inside heating unit in no time and restored heat in my home on the same day. I value a company that can support me as soon as I need it, some things cannot wait until next week.
