Poolman Cleaning Service
I have been a Poolman customer for 7 years and my home was previously serviced by them prior to my purchase. Generally, I've had a pretty good experience. However, their service has deteriorated beyond recovery in the past 6 months, to the point of my ultimate decision to cancel.

I've been on a salt (chemical) only service which includes maintenance of my water chemistry, but does not include brushing, backwashing, baskets, etc. I maintain the filters, sweeping, and skimming. At times, I've been unable to do this and have opted to pay Poolman to vacuum or clean the pool fully. I've had a few green pools due to heavy storms or negligence on my behalf, but it has been very infrequent (and somewhat expected for any pool owner in AZ).

This year has been another situation entirely. In March, Poolman sent an email saying that they were streamlining our route system so we can improve on reliability. We got a new tech and new service day. On June 9, a tech serviced our pool noting the free chlorine level to be 2 PPM. The very next day, my pool was showing signs of algae and a test strip showed chlorine at 0 PPM. There was an issue with the salt system (which was repaired), but had gone entirely unnoticed by the service tech 24 hours prior. On July 21, a tech serviced our pool and indicated chlorine levels of 2 PPM. When I returned home on July 24, the pool was turning green. In both cases I had to add shock at my own expense and spent additional time cleaning up the problem.

As many other recent reviews have noted, I've also experienced a billing problem with Poolman this year. In January, Poolman sent an email stating you will receive all future invoices via email and Poolman will charge your account using this preferred payment choice. I've had an established auto pay agreement since 2014, but that didn't transfer to the new system automatically (this was NOT clear in their email). Each month, since January, they have sent an invoice indicating a balance due equal to my monthly payment amount. However, in July, I received a past due notice for $300+ and a threat that my account was being sent to collections. I've now paid the balance, but the communication in this situation is infuriating.

Today, when I called to follow up on these issues, I received a recorded message stating due to the high volume of calls we cannot answer your call; please hold while we transfer you to voice messaging. With service issues for two consecutive summer months, billing problems, threats of collections, and the inability to speak with a representative about my account, I have made the choice to cancel my service.

With more than 5,500+ service accounts, they are experiencing serious scaling issues. I hope they can work through these operational problems and that I might be able to give them a chance again down the road. Until then, I will be working with a smaller, local provider. I suggest you do the same.
