Best Stained Concrete Patio in Phoenix AZ

ABS Floor Covering Flooring Contractor
I can’t say enough good things about James, Terry, Chris and this company. They just wrapped a ten-location flooring project for one of our customers in the Phoenix Area and throughout the whole process, they maintained excellent communication in relaying project progress, details and completion photos to us at our offices here in Ohio. They even handled the logistics for us regarding the placement and relocating of the refrigeration trucks needed for perishables to be stored while the restaurant coolers were getting their new floors. They worked with us and our customer to schedule and complete these jobs at a time and in a manner that was the least disruptive to our customer’s business so I would highly recommend them for any flooring job needed and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Cardinal Concrete Coatings of Phoenix Flooring Contractor
Hiring this company for the1600sq. ft 4 car/RV garage in our new build was a big mistake! I paid professional money to receive DIY results that had to be corrected 3 times and take 44 days to complete the project from start to finish... I made the 50% down payment on 7/20/22. I was originally scheduled for Aug. 22 & 23, but apparently the scheduler left the company, and I ended up being scheduled for Sep. 1 & 2. The first install was completed on Sep. 1st. After the install I realized that the surface was extremely rough, they did not knock down the chip flakes enough and there were sharp spots all over. I contacted CCC and they sent out a crew to fix it the next day (Sep.2nd). They sanded it down and recoated it. The topcoat is supposed to dry to vehicle traffic in 24 hours I think but the 2nd time they worked on our floor it did not dry. After 5 days there was still a couple areas (10' x 10') that were still wet and our garage still had a strong chemical smell. I contacted CCC again and they ended up scheduling with my wife to come out on Sep. 16th. I had to change that date since we were having our driveway extended that day and CCC would not come out. They pushed us back until Oct. 7th stating that we had to work with them... On Oct. 7th they came back and sanded down all the rough areas and redid the areas that were still tacky/wet from Sep. 2nd! This time they did a pretty good job but still made the same mistakes, the stress joints were not sanded and coated to make a sealed surface and there were several areas that had chips sticking up. They ended up dragging all the wet/tacky stuff into the next pad and now instead of having a nice clean chip flake it looks like dirt. They came back on Oct. 15th and sanded and fixed most the areas.

What was supposed to be a 1 day install ended up turning into everything from our garage sitting outside for 6 weeks during rain and dust storms! My toolbox that was under a tarp ended up getting dust all over in it and the slides are all gritty now. I had to clean everything before putting it back in our garage...

Communication to and from this company is horrible, texting ended up being the most reliable, but you really had no idea who you were actually talking with.

Desert Floor Coatings Flooring Contractor
I used Desert Coatings (DC) to do painted concrete flooring throughout our house back in August or September of 2017. The flooring consisted of a total of approximately 1,700 square feet of flooring. The house that this work was done at was a vacation house at the time, so I wasn’t there to supervise the work when it was done. Other work was being done at the house by another contractor at the same time. Overall, the final finished floor was okay, but there were some things I wasn’t happy about.

During their install process I received a call from my general contractor that the flooring installers had gotten cement material all over the newly painted doors and baseboards. I called DC and they gave me a $700 credit to have the doors and baseboards fixed and repainted. After the flooring job was done, I came out to the house and discovered that the workers had spilled concrete in various spots on my newly painted patio cool deck. I was able to power wash some of it away, but some still remains to this day.

In a bedroom some tile had to be removed and DC had to use a self-leveling concrete to even out the floor, as well as raise a portion to make it level with the rest of the room. When I was able to come out and look at the flooring, I noticed that this area was very wavy and had bumps in some spots. I called DC and they came out and applied another coat, which improved it, but the finish still wasn’t smooth flat in the end.

In the living room they had to fill the entire room with about 2-3 inches of concrete to fill the void left by removing the existing wood underlayment that was previously used to build up the floor. Where this new poured concrete met the existing concrete, a crack developed about 6-12 months later, which caused the paint to chip away. There were a couple other cracks that developed too. I called DC and they sent someone out to fix it. The repair consisted of them applying more paint over the cracked area. The repair ended up not being flush with the rest of the finish, and the color did not match the rest of the flooring. This crack is in a prominently noticeable area of the house too.

Fast forward to 2020-2021, the crack reappeared and the paint began to crack and chip away again. I didn’t call DC right away because I still was not living in the house full time yet. After moving in full time, the chipping away became worse from walking over the area. I called DC twice in August 2022 (8/25 & 8/29), both times reaching an answering service. They said they would pass the message along and someone would call me by the next day. No one called me back. After the second call I decided to start emailing them (9/1/22). The first email response I got was that Tom Allen (the owner) was out of state that week, so I waited about two weeks and emailed them again (9/14). I received an email back (9/16) stating that they were on vacation and would call me back when they returned. I waited a month and did not receive a response, so I emailed again (10/17/22) and received no response. I emailed a final time (10/27/22) and again no response.

In addition to the above there are a few spots here and there that I wasn’t happy with – under the kitchen island (uneven finish and sheen), a few wavy uneven spots here and there throughout the house. I didn’t write a review at the time, because I just figured I’d live with it as is, but now that I can’t get a response from them, or have them come out to do the repair, I’m writing a response now.

I do not recommend and would not use Desert Coatings again (I felt this way before the lack of response, but even more so now), especially if you’re looking for a high-end finish. I have since read other reviews where they do not respond to follow up calls for repairs when needed.
