Was referred via Home Depot for a water heater installation. I spoke and made an appointment and they assured me they would replace my water heater that day. I asked what is the average cost of installation and they said it varies. (does it ever) Feeling pressed I booked. They scheduled me between 9-11. I phoned at 1:35 to check status and was told they would not be able to come until the following morning. An hour later a tech calls and he assures me he is right on time. I had drained the unit, and trouble shot myself. The heat trap valve was gone, and the copper line from the water heater to the wall connect had a hole. I decided given it's age I might as well replace vs. repair. I had emailed the details, model, size and all the steps taken, none were known. Not by the person I scheduled the appointment with nor the tech. The estimate is free, but the cost labor only to replace the 700$ water heater given was $3200.00 (THEN) as I am in the industry, I said are you sure? That is outrageous. He then said hmm well how about $1700. *&( to install. 2200 lower than the first attempt???? That feels dishonest and like a scam. That was it, not another word was spoken.
