Doug & Mike Hoover know their stuff! Hard working, professionals. They replaced drain pipe, from the house to the sidewalk. A day and a half to dig, repair, inspect and put everything back together!! Saved me over $4,000. 2 other companies came in to look at my store’s slow drains. Both companies wanted to break up the concrete and replace the main pipe. One estimated $3100 (local company), the other $4450 (big national brand name ). Ed and his co-worker (sorry didn’t catch your name ), cleaned out the main drain and I was free and clear for under $200. I just went through one of the worst nightmares a homeowner can experience - complete interior sewer line replacement. Throughout the whole experience Nelson brothers was courteous, professional and always concerned for my well being. During the process, they went our of their way to make sure I had adequate working plumbing before they left for the night. After we thought the job was complete, there was an issue with ground water drainage, but I called Rick and he and the crew were there within the hour and did what it took to resolved the problem.

I’ve had Nelson Bros come out 3 times for 3 different matters in the past 3 years. Every time they’ve been courteous, professional and clean. Most recently we had Jon come to the house. He quickly diagnosed the problem and gave us a quote and timeframe. He worked until completion and the price remained firm, he even went out of his way to go back to the shop and replace an additional valve for us!! Nelson brothers has always been great to us and Jon was very helpful and courteous. Highly recommend!!

I am a client of Nelson Brothers now for over 40 years. My family prior to that time frame. Nelson Brothers is the ONLY plumbing company I ask for and trust.

Jesse completed a cast iron pipe replacement in my basement. He is very professional, knowledgeable, and considerate. I appreciate the work he did on my house, and the clean, tidy finished product. He didn’t try to oversell me- was very to-the-point and honest. Would highly recommend!

I had Nelson Brothers come out and perform work earlier this year and on the phone they were clear that in order to send a Technician it was $100 (which includes 30 mins of work) totally fair. I called again recently for a quick repair and on the phone the gentleman did not say that there was different cost structure for different calls. I was calling to have them swap a cartridge on a shower valve - figured it would take less than 30 mins so I'd be charged the $100 + parts.Their Tech was in my house for 10 mins and says i'll have to order the cartridge and says I owe $244 + $100 when he comes back. Stupidly, I gave him my credit card and thought - its not this guys fault I'll call and talk with a Manager to clear up any confusion. Upon calling Nelson Brothers, I was told they'd discuss and get back with me. A week later - no return call. So I called back and they tell me they reviewed it and the price is what it is. $344 to swap out a shower valve cartridge. So at this point I've paid $244 for them to order me a $20 cartridge I could have ordered myself online.Needless to say anyone who calls needs to ask on the phone what they will be charged for their expected service. Since I had worked with them previously, I thought if the pricing was different to come out for a simple plumbing fix they'd tell me when I was on the phone. I thought once I talked to them we could clear up the confusion (as it likely was that their person scheduling the appointment just forgot to tell me) or come to some sort of compromise. I figured, they'd value someone who was already a repeat customer who likely would be a long-term customer. Nope - they'd rather create an upset customer than to even bother to call me back. Sad.

We have used Nelson Brothers for many years. We have always been satisfied with their service.Justin Leppan demonstrates quality work under difficult circumstances. The cap to the sewer line was stuck together. IT Took a Major effort to get it off. He worked diligently to fix the problem. He was timely, thorough, and great problem solving skills, excellent attitude and pleasant demeanor. We would certainly recommend him to anyone in need of his services. We had a sudden and severe clog in the kitchen drain with difficult bends in the pipe. The plumbers were resourceful and worked hard to get everything working. They cleaned up so well, you'd never know we had a problem. Always reliable and worth every penny.

No respect for your time. Keep looking.Problem needed a second call. I get it, not everything is resolved the first time, no problem. Was told I'd pay again for the same work that was done the first time + additional work. I was a little off-put but needed it fixed so I scheduled. Day of appointment, they don't show up and don't call. They also say they stopped by and no one was home when we call them. Certainly not true. If you can't make it, call. If you miss the appointment, don't lie to me and tell me you came by. No call + no show + no integrity = no job.

On May 26th we hired Nelson Bros to install a dishwasher hose, a sink faucet, a garbage disposal and connect the gas line to the stove. We we told that it would take about three hours to complete. The plumber arrived a few minutes before noon and left at 8:15 pm giving us a bill over $1150. He attempted to install the dishwasher hose but was not successful. We were charged for all of the time he spent trying to rig up a way to make it work. He later told us that we need an OEM part and that we need to hire an appliance company. He then installed the sink faucet but did not do it correctly, it does not function properly. However, we were charged over $200. He did properly install the garbage disposal, but after testing the dishwasher, realized he did not completely remove the knock-out, creating a flood into the cabinet and into the basement. He did not secure the water lines properly allowing the line to move freely.We contacted Rick immediately and he said he would have the owner review the bill and get back to us. The amount charged is excessive for the amount of work which was done correctly.Rick later told us that our invoice is still on the owner's desk and he would contact us, which he never did. On their website it states that their technicians will efficiently solve plumbing problems Many of our problems still exist, yet we were charged for over eight hours of work. The website goes on to state that Nelson Bros provides their customers with honest, quality service at a fair price Is $1150 a fair price for an improperly installed faucet, a dishwasher that does not work and water lines that are not secured?The website goes on to promise Should there be a problem with our workmanship we will return to correct the problem free of charge. They haven't.We have tried to work with Nelson Brothers, giving them plenty of time to correct the problem and refund the overcharges, but we have not heard from anyone in the company. Having been loyal customers for decades, it's a shame having to leave a review like this.

Our plumber Chris was very professional cordial. His expertises of 18 years in plumbing was evident is in his workmanship. Following the faucet he replaced in our kitchen Chris answered all of questions and demonstrated the features the faucet. We asked about additional plumbing concerns in our home and was very helpful. Woke up to water flooding our first floor and basement, Called at 810 on a sunday, at a tech at my doorstep at 910! These guys have emergency service down. Our tech, Mike I believe, gave us honest pricing before he came out letting us know how much on call pricing is and that he doesnt know what hes looking at over the phone so may only be able to do a temporary fix. Had him come anyway and was able to fix it completely today. I called a few other plumbers with emergency service and 12 hours later still waiting. You have recieved a customer for life! Thanks for the great service guys!!

They did a great job cleaning out and taking camera images of root issues, after the Nelson bros removed an old forgotten septic and installed new pipes 3 months prior. Team is very knowledgeable and professional and provided a clear detailed root cause. Highly recommend for folks wanting quality work with a good team.

Do not use this company if you expect fair service and pricing!!Had a leak under our sink and was very clear explaining the problem to the dispatcher (drip from the garbage disposal, as well as the faucet).First service call led to a technician coming out and fixing the garbage disposal leak, while not addressing the faucet leak (even though I explained the issue to the technician).After I notice the issue was not fully fixed, I call back the dispatcher and he says “we normally charge double for a return visit to fix what wasn’t properly fixed by us” in a joking tone. Then assured me it would be free. I shouldn’t have assumed he was joking.Technician comes back out and pokes his head under the sink for about 30 seconds and tells me “I think you need a new faucet”. I then decline the outrageous quote he gave me ($800) and he goes on his way. Then I get hit with another bill for the revisit, which was said to be free.I call back the dispatcher and get forwarded to the management, then dispute the charge given to me. They refuse to waive the revisit fee.Bottom line is these guys are totally incompetent and could not be honest in letting me know what the true issue was during the first visit, nor fix it. They will steal your money and you will still have the same issue you called about in the first place.

This company was recommended to me so I figured I would try them out. Our bathroom sink needed new piping. The first time they came over, they were here for no more than 10 minutes- said they needed special pipes and didn’t have them on hand (not to mention they were also 35 minutes late, said they’d be here 1-5 and came around 5:30). So they rescheduled to come back five days later. Second run around, they’re a no call, no-show. They said they would come between 1-5 PM. It’s now 5:45 and I’m calling to see where they are and over the phone, the company is closed. Would’ve loved to write a good review if I was actually able to work with you guys. However, I don’t love wasting my time.Update: we called the next day and was told there was a miscommunication with scheduling (said we were the 4th folks to call with a similar situation). They had sent someone out that same day around 4:00. I’ve changed the rating to 4 stars. Not the most ideal experience, but they were efficient and tried to help fix the problem once we voiced our concern. Thank you.

In this situation, they fixed up a basement bathroom that had corroded pipes in the sink and a toilet from 1960 that was leaking. The company is very professional, customer-centric, and responsive. Their technicians are all top notch - very experienced and they deliver quality work; this definitely includes the gentleman who did the work today. I consider them a trusted service provider!

Had a tenant with the sewer drain backing up into the house. Nelson Brothers got on it right away. I was willing to pay for the night service but they called me back to say they would move it up to late afternoon so no premium for the emergency service. Yay! Fixed it thoroughly. Tenant is happy. I am happy. Great company to do business with. Professional, courteous office staff. Will have them work on all my rental properties going forward.

They responded sending a plumber in the same day! Very professional and knowledgeable lady, she did the job fast.

Scam artists. Will charge you hundreds of dollars for simple repairs. I.E. toilet flap $180 dollars. You can buy a new toilet for less. Simple 90 degree elbow on a gas line, again they wanted at least 125 dollars. Other companies will charge half. Way to keep your customers Nelson Brothers. Scam people who can't make they're own repairs.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Cain was extremely professional and knowledgeable and friendly as well as excellent at his job. Our flange had cracked and our new toilet was rocking and we couldn’t get the bolts fastened and he was able to replace the flange and put in a new cast iron one which will be way stronger and the toilet is now permanently affixed which is a godsend. I would recommend Nelson to anyone!

Doug & Mike Hoover installed a sump discharge line from the rear of our home to the city storm main at the rear of our yard & they did a great job. They went out of their way to avoid damage to our favorite red maple tree in our back yard, & were just a pleasure to work with. They were friendly & answered any questions I had and I would certainly recommend Nelson Brothers Sewer & Plumbing my family & friends that may need plumbing services in the future.

Our landlord hired Nelson Bros to fix an issue with our toilet backing up. We were told they'd be here between 10am-2pm and they arrived with a text 5 minute beforehand around 12pm.We had two technicians come out, an older man named Ed and a younger man who's name I didn't get. They were both extremely professional, courtesy, and friendly. They were able to take care of all of my problems quickly and efficiently. Would definitely use them again. Thanks Ed!

I woke up at 5:30AM to find water in my basement. I called the emergency hotline and was willing to pay the emergency fee. When I spoke to the plumber he told me to call back at 8 AM at the regular business hours. I called the dispatcher back again and explained the situation to him. Bottom line....Nelson Brothers does not have emergency hours. I recommend finding another company when you have an emergency. I called Edwards plumbing and they were out within the hour.

Nelson Brothers were professional in every thing involved with my problem. The technician called in advance of arrival, explained what he was doing and cleaned up after the service. When I need plumbing services Nelson Brothers are my guys.

Jonathan Perkins did an excellent job. He explained in detail what had to be done and cleaned up thoroughly when finished. He explained that a different 50 gal tank was needed and the ode requirements for the vent pipe had changed. Very good work!

I only had an estimate today it is a complicated job and Ben will get back with me I. A great days after he determined the cost.Ben. The estimator is very knowledgeable and professional and explained what would be required. I have other estimates and this will be my last. If he is close to the other estimate I will probably go with Nelson brothers because my father and grandfather delt with them in the past and were always well satisfied with the quality and price.

I used this company for almost 20 years, but in the last couple years they turned into greedy price gougers. Quotes to do the most simple repairs are absurdly high. And the appointment setter, Jeremy, is so condescending about the prices. As if you’re an idiot if you question the crazy increases. From the tone of responses to other Google Reviews, it seems condescension is just company policy. You don’t “argue” with unhappy customers! 94 years to build a great reputation. One to destroy it.

Expect to pay $98 for them walking through your front door. Unfriendly customer service. The water heater they installed did not work satisfactorily until another service came and fixed their error.

Nelson Brothers did good work when i hired them a few months ago, but the technician made me verify payment by tapping the screen on a tablet --which was covered with fingerprints--at several places. This was a change, as earlier this summer, the technician just asked for verbal verification. Hopefully by now they have reverted back to verbal verifications and will maintain that for at least the duration of the pandemic.

The kitchen sink drain was completely clogged. Nelson Brother’s rep plumber Marie was sent and promptly worked to completely snake out the drain, ultimately having to use the “heavier” snake cable. She was very professional and determined to ensure that the drain pipe was completely cleared before properly cleaning the work area prior to leaving. Oct 2021: Jonathan was at our home this time for a sewer line cleaning. He checked 3 clean outs and found water to be flowing at all. I requested the sewer line maintenance anyway. Once he pulled the snake line out, we discovered a small amount of roots on the snake. It was not much, but enough to justify the annual service. Thanks Jonathan for your thorough service at our home!2019: I've used this company twice the the last year. Both times their technicians were polite, courteous, and knowledgeable. They performed their jobs well, and left my home in better shape than they found it.This is a good company that employs good people.

There are a lot of plumbing co.panies out there. Few will show up on time, quickly diagnose the problem and fix it, charging a fair price.

The Nelson Brothers Plumbers were great. We had a backed up drain in basement and emergently needed it snaked. They came out within four hours, and both Eric and Rob were professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and fixed the blockage in our drain. I would highly recommend using this plumbing service - especially the emergency after hours service, as their communication was excellent in keeping us informed when the crew would arrive.

My mom's basement had water leakage from recent rainstorms. We were told she needed her basement waterproofed and gutter guards during two separate appointments. I decided to contact Nelson Brothers yesterday. Ed came out today. He checked the sewer and water lines. They were clogged causing water to seep into the basement. Very poor customer service and experience. Service tech did not protect the floor, did not clean up even after requesting, and caused a secondary leak which the customer had to fix. I had to clean up his work and repaint the area of the basement. When brought to the attention of company management, they responded poorly and sided with the technician versus the customer. Will not use again or refer their service.

We had an appointment last week. They forgot to call and tell us they couldn't make it. We rescheduled for today. They showed up and installed garbage disposal and fixed clogged plumbing. Fixed toilet upstairs. The shower had been leaking and was still leaking when they left and now our dishwasher won't drain. We now have another appointment for next week. I'm super frustrated, but there is nothing I can do but wait until next week for a complete fix on the shower. All the work they did was great. They were very polite. I just think sometimes life works like this.We had them back out today. They fixed the shower leak and removed a plug forgotten from the disposal installation. We should be all set now and are satisfied with the work they did.

I called Nelson Brothers to snake a drain that would back up in the spring. The guy they sent out was a jerk with an attitude. He barely did the job ( I had to pay to have another company to come out and snake the drain correctly within a month) and when he presented me with the overly expensive bill, I told him I had a $10 off coupon, and he told me that he already factored that into the bill, which was an outright lie, because I never mentioned the coupon to anyone, including him. I would never use this company again, and I have told all my friends, family, and coworkers the same. All this company cares about is money. No customer service, and a very poor work ethic. Plumbers are a dime a dozen, might as well spend your money with a good company that will appreciate your business and not rip you off.

Nelson Brothers gives plumbers a bad name. Avoid them at all cost. They are not up front or honest from the service techs to the owner. Not sure why we as consumers put up with bad service when we have other choices. If you can, please use a different company.

We contacted Nelson Bros to look at a shower that wasn't getting as hot as it previously had. We were told a part needed to be replaced. They ordered the wrong part, and then somehow made it so only cold water comes out of the shower. Almost 2 months later, we still have an unusable shower and they have not been able to get the correct part in. I would not recommend and will not be using again. Very unprofessional.

Absolutely fantastic service. We had another company charge us $300 and didn’t fix the problem, then they said our only other option was to spend another $1000. Called Nelson and they fixed the problem in one visit for less than the $300 we spent with the other company for doing nothing. Everyone at Nelson’s were great to deal with, from the office to the tech! I would highly recommend them to anyone.

BUYER BEWARE - For those that may use Nelson for filming your pipes be aware that film isn't yours unless you download it and save it on your own devices. I paid extremely good money for this service and they sent video via a dropbox service. Today I heard how I should have known that drobbox only stores stuff for a short period of time.No clear expectation setting from Nelson Brothers. I spent over $800 dollars and was tapped to do repairs film indicated and intended to do as I was able. I am now able and tried to access video to no avail.Nelson had an oh well' attitude and has lost a customer who not only used this for this but also in rentals I had. Very disappointed by the lack of empathy, customer support. Buyer Beware and ask the right questions or get the best understanding you can.

I own my childhood home in Royal Oak, which is now a rental property. I have a hard time finding repair and service people because I live in another state and I am a senior citizen, so either the repair people won't even come and look, or they quote outrageous prices to cheat or discourage me. Therefore, I was amazed and surprised when Rick from Nelson Brothers offered to come and track down an ongoing leak in the bathroom, spent a half hour locating the leak (which is coming through the tiles), then DID NOT CHARGE for the service call. I cannot tell you how grateful I am because he could have said anything he wanted---he could have told me I needed all the pipes replaced, as someone else recently did. Even though he certainly was entitled to be paid for his time, he would not take any money. This is in contrast to other repair people who gave me quotes of $11,000 and $6,000 to fix the leak, even though neither person was sure where the leak was coming from. Nelson has always been prompt and reasonable in the past when roots got into the pipes, etc. I wish they could make house calls to my home in Illinois.

I contacted Nelson Bros. to get a water heater replaced. Their representative (Jim) gave me a call letting me know he'd be there in 20 minutes. Jim confirmed that my water heater needed replacing and gave me some good information on options such as a tankless system that I had asked about. I settled on just replacing the tank, which we agreed was the best option for my situation. Jim got a new tank out to my house and completed the replacement job promptly and efficiently. My total cost was less than half of what I was expecting (there is an inside joke for Jim if he sees this). I will be calling Nelson Bros. for any future plumbing issues and won't hesitate to refer others to them.

He was very mannerable and Nelson brothers gave me an absolute price that I just couldn't believe everybody else tried to take me to the cleaners. I am a widow in my 70s. I had absolutely terrible service from Nelson Bros. They came to address a variety of plumbing issues on my home and were never prepared with items they needed to actually fix the issue. Which is convenient considering they charge a fee just to come out. Then on the 2nd appointment they did not fix the problem and had a horrible attitude when I called less than 12 hours later to let them know the problem was not resolved. They did finally agree not to charge the fee on the follow up but when the tech came out he did not have the necessary items to fix the problem (again), plus he tore into my wall and told me it would be a major repair. When I had another plumber come out to give me a free estimate- he told me he could fix it for appx $70 (instead of $700). Never again.

I've been using Nelson Brothers for seven years now and always have top-notch service with respectful employees who pride themselves on doing the job right. Ed is the best drain guy around and always takes time to explain the details in a way that is easy to understand. Also, I recently had an apprentice plumber named Jonathan out to replace a bad valve on my hot water heater. He was excellent, efficient, and even made some other non-emergency replacement recommendations without any pressure at all to buy. I appreciate that type of honesty and expertise!

I had a backed up tub with a pipe leak. The guy snaked the tub took the $180 and said that the leak would require two people. They were to call me back with a quote and schedule to fix the leak. Weeks later no return call - still have a leak. Left with the feeling they just wanted the quick and easy money and walked away. I would not recommend them.

Ben at Nelson Bros. was amazing. We just moved into a new house and immediately ran into sprinkler system/backflow preventer issues that were time sensitive for us to get fixed since we unknowingly inherited the past-due responsibility from the prior owners to have the backflow preventer tested per county orders. He was incredibly informative and ultimately able to come out quickly to fix everything, and for less than he originally anticipated. I would most certainly use their services again in the future.

He helped me switch out an old washing machine with the new one, when Home Depot said they couldn’t install it. Valves were replaced with new ones. Scheduling an appointment with dispatch was very easy as well.

Cain did an excellent job with snaking our drain. He did a very thorough job and I’m so thankful to have the drain clear again. Wish I would have called sooner to take care of the slow drain.

I would definitely recommend Nelson Brothers! We have been having on and off plumbing issues since we moved in to our house over 2 years ago.
