I received a text and a call 30 minutes before service man arrived as a heads up that he was in his way. He was friendly and did a great job. I have used Poormans for both a whole new HVAC system and also a new water heater/softener. Both experiences with them were top notch. The new HVAC system was a slightly better experience mostly from the speed at which the whole thing happened, but I was told that the water softeners are made to order before we even started. In either case, from the start with a no pressure in home estimate to the finish with final payment Poormans seemed like a great company to place my trust in. I have no regrets, and I would do it again.

Had quote several years ago; we decided to repair instead, but knew would prioritize them when time came.... now, they responded same-day (3 hrs) w/ quote for new system, that was installed day-and-a-half later; But better than the responsiveness - and same as earlier - straight-forward up-front pricing, no hard-sell, dealer of high-quality Trane equipment. The repairman was quick to check the furnace and found the problem. He replaced a part, cleaned the interior, he told me about a maintenance plan that gave me a discount. The discount included maintenance service for the air conditioner in the spring.

Poormans sent 3 tech's each about a week apart. Did not fix the problem, yet insisted we pay the bill, for a furnace they originally installed in 2014. We finally had to hire a different Heating Contractor to fix the problem. New contractor ID the problem, FURNACE IMPROPERLY INSTALLED! Avoid Poormans!

Just in the service tech was very pleasant and efficient on time did the best he could to help us at least keep some heat but now there’s parts that cannot be replaced this time very impressed with your service man and the way he handled it. it was a wonderful experience

I just cannot say enough good things about Poorman's Heating. We got quotes from four different HVAC companies as our 20 year old furnace was starting to have problems. We decided on Poorman's, and of course our old furnace quit on a Friday night in the dead of winter. Not only did the service tech try to get it working for the weekend, but when that did not work, Mike brought us portable heaters to get us through the weekend until we could get our new furnace installed. Tyler was here on Monday morning installing our new furnace and I must say the service was wonderful, timely, and very very tidy. We were blown away with the service Poorman's provided in addition to the best furnace...Trane. Thank you and kudos to a wonderful company. Why would anyone ever go anywhere else?!?

They have replaced our boiler and air conditioning. Very knowledgeable and fast service if any problems.

First tech there 10 mins said its was working and left heat went back out 4 hours later on a Friday night not happy. Finally when a different tech came out Tuesday found the problem almost 500.00 to fix but least he knew what problem was and fixed it pretty fast so he gets 5 stars but first one 2 stars 90.00 for nothing first guy and then it took 4 days no heat.

In 2013 they installed my new boiler, replaced broken radiators, and removed old broken gas lines. It was a hard, dirty job but they went above and beyond expectations.

Our A/C gave up just before the onset of the heat that came with the 4th of July, which fell on a Thursday. They could have someone out possibly Friday, but we opted for the following Monday, for ease of planning.
The tech sent out (wish I could remember his name) was timely, quite courteous, and professional. Unfortunately, he delivered the news I was expecting. Your outside unit has a leak, its old, should probably replace it, but I can attempt to fix it if you'd like
Seth, a sales rep came out the following morning, sized up the situation, and explained some options. We gave it some thought, and had a phone call with Seth and Steve (the owner) Our questions were answered, and we opted to go with a new heat pump set up. I called around to a few other shops, just to price check. Now, Poorman's was competitive, but not the cheapest. BUT, the professionalism and knowledge that everyone has shown so far, and the quality Trane unit we were getting easily offset the few hundred dollar difference, plus they were able to install it quicker than anyone else!
The installation crew showed the same professionalism that I had come to expect from Poormans, and they had us up and running in 3-4 hours. By Friday of the same week, we were able to come home to a cool house.
I can't wait to see the difference our new Trane heat pump makes on our monthly bills!
Hopefully we won't need any other furnace our A/C work done in the near future, but if we do, we'll call Poorman's.

Our A/C stopped working on Thursday evening and I called the company that installed it three years ago and they couldn't come out until Monday. I told them I have Asthma and I needed it fixed no help there. So I called Poormans and was given an appointment for Friday (today) the girl in the office Sarah was so nice and the young man that came out Camden was very nice and it turned out to be a bigger job than we had thought but he did a great job of getting it fixed. Anytime I have a problem with the Heating and Air I will call Poormans. Camden did a great job and I sure appreciate him.

I called on Friday evening. A woman answered the phone, she didn’t say her name. I asked about getting a quote on a heating and cooling system. Her response to me was “Well can it wait until Monday?” I said yes and hung up. Completely unprofessional and I will not be calling back for a quote or any type of service at all.

Our A/C unit was out for at least 2 weeks. Another service provider had told us it needed a compressor and it would be at least 4-8 weeks for the new part. Called Poorman's and their service tech, Tom, took the unit apart and discovered the compressor was unplugged. All is working now!!

They are very prompt and professional. My old AC & furnace will last awhile longer thanks to their repairs, but when they need replaced, I'll go with Poorman's.

Our AC quit working at our house on a Friday night. I called the 24-hour service number and Kegan showed up at our house within the hour. We have a geothermal and I guess it's set up is a bit unusual. Kegan did an amazing job, he was super friendly and didn't give up until he got us up and running again. I highly recommend Poor man's Heating and Air! Outstanding service and affordable.

We had Poormans replace our AC condensers and they did a phenomenal job and were extremely responsive. The same day we called they had someone out to inspect our system and within a week we were back up and running. 100% recommend Poormans to anyone requiring a timely, quality repair/replacement on their heating or AC.

Highly recommend! We had been without AC for 2 months because we were quoted such a high cost by another company. Decided to contact Poormans and their pricing was much more reasonable, they came out first thing and were so kind and went above and beyond! Excellent service!!

Few weeks ago had a trane furnace installed with a great team. Tom and Mitch had replaced all heat ducts then added some where needed to be more efficient. It was a challenge due to having to install in a dirt crawl space. The guys are very hard working with the knowledge to do a substantial job. Tyler who is very knowledgeable, pleasantly nice to have worked with. Thank you Poormans!

High quality, great installation, competitive pricing, and HONEST. Here's my detailed story about dealing with them:

BACKGROUND:

I have a 20 year old Trane furnace and central air. It served me well but was starting to have problems. For years, I was a loyal customer for another local HVAC company, and had my equipment serviced annually and paid a monthly fee to be in their preferred customer club. Then they started taking advantage of my loyalty and began gouging me.

The gouging started several years ago, during a routine clean and check, my old company told me my a/c needed a $400 compressor saver kit. I was really busy at work, so I just told them to go ahead and do it. I figured out later it probably was a scam. But I stayed with them.

The final straw was when my old company told me my furnace was in need of replacement because the heat exchanger was cracked. I couldn't see it on their fuzzy video, so this time I got a second opinion, and found out that the furnace was still good, and that what looked like cracks were probably markings maybe from manufacturing. The furnace continued to run like a Trane for several more seasons, and I started to look elsewhere for HVAC service.

HONEST KENNY:

Last winter, I called Poormans for the first time for an annual furnace check, and Kenny came out. He looked everything over and cleaned it, and confirmed it was running fine, but probably nearing the end of its useful life. He told me I probably could get a few more seasons out of it. I appreciated his honesty. I call him Honest Kenny.

LAST WEEK:

Then last week my a/c went out. I called Poormans and they sent out Honest Kenny again. I feared the worst, that my compressor was shot. But Honest Kenny told me it was just a bad dual run capacitor, which is a cheap fix. I was so impressed with Honest Kenny that I called the service manager Chad and asked for a quote to replace my system, since I knew my system was old, and furnaces have a way of dying when it is -10 F and you're getting ready to go on vacation.

The next day Seth came out and, practicing social distancing protocols, went over my needs and explained all the options. He did his own manual J calculations to make sure he was specifying the right size equipment (in other words not using rules of thumb, or just automatically going with the same size I already had). He answered all my questions about features, specs, rebates, tax credits, financing, etc. I could tell Seth knew his stuff. The next day I had several written quotes to review, and after shopping around some more, decided to go ahead. They probably aren't the absolute cheapest, and I could have gone with cheaper equipment than Trane, but cheapest isn't always best. Often you get what you pay for.

INSTALL:

Seth met the installation techs in the morning, and made sure everything went smoothly. The techs were neat and did their work very professionally. For example, when they installed the humidifier, they didn't just punch into the water supply with a saddle valve like I would have if I did it myself, because those tend to leak over time. Instead, they soldered in a T fitting with a separate shut off (see photo).

A couple of tips:

1. Consider their 10-year bumper-to-bumper warranty. It's a bargain. I found that competitor's prices for similar warranty coverage were over twice as expensive.
2. Consider the Trane NEXIA smart home WI-FI thermostat. Its really a slick system, and tracks the weather does everything except make your coffee (see photo). Depending on your equipment, it can help maximize it's efficiency.

P.S. Remember the compressor saver kit? Honest Kenny confirmed that there was no such thing on my old unit.

Poorman's has been wonderful to business with. When they came to install my A/C and Furnace today, the guys were extremely professional. They needed to put the A/C unit in a different place due to a water meter being in the way. Rather than just moving it, they asked me if it was okay to move. They answered all my questions no problem. Couldn't recommend these guys more!

Our project was not a simple install, but a major project in putting in a heat pump system into a late 1800 farm house. Seth and Brian kept the project moving in the planning stage and Kegan and Tyler were very professional and innovative installers solving the problems that invariably come up in working with old houses like ours. Very happy with the quality of the final product of a quality system with a quality install. Seth went above and beyond the call of duty of any sales person we ever met.

We went about 2 weeks on the coldest days and Poormans came to the rescue. Our boiler had broke down and they found a way to get us a. Ew one at a price we can afford being on a fixed income. Even offered space heaters for us until the new boiler was here and installed. They went above and beyond.

I have always been pleased with the service provided by Poormans. And yesterday we received service from their technician, Bremen S, that went above and beyond all expectations. He arrived promptly and cheerfully for probably the most dreaded of service calls…a decomposing animal (turned out to be 2!) in the furnace intake. He cleaned things up thoroughly and without any complaints. We’re very grateful and want to thank him again and publicly.

Great service!!

Install went seemless with some minor fixes that the inspector nit picked on inspection, but they came right out to fix and resubmit. They even went above and beyond when they came to light the piolet light. I had some plumbing issues and the tech was able to get a bandaid on it untill their plumber came out to properly fix it.

Poorman's were able to order and provide a needed part for us to fix our furnace with no hassle. The office staff was friendly and I'm very happy with their service. If we need service again in the future I'll be giving them a call.

Every time I have had to call the on call was very slow to respond had to call a different ac place both times

They started being dishonest right from the get-go. They worked extremely slow to milk the clock because they charge by the hour. Then did not do more than one aspect before calling in another person to charge us for that as well. That person did nothing but stand around and socialize and we were billed for it. They also did damage to my unit and claimed an electrician did it. After saying they would call us the following day to schedule finishing the work, we heard nothing for 4 days. They literally did an hours work and billed us $600 !!! I terminated them and had an excellent company come and they literally had my unit up and running within an hour and a half and I couldn't be happier with the results. DO NOT USE THESE SCAM ARTISTS. (THEY'RE NOT WHAT THE PARENTS WERE WHO RETIRED.)

I bought a new water heater from Menards 2 years ago for $400 and it stopped working last night. I called poor man’s and they showed up the same day. They replaced my bad part and BAM HOT WATER! $265 for the part and $350 labor and tax $600 total to fix my $400 water heater.

Poorman's installed a new heating and cooling system in our home and we could not be happier. After an initial service call revealed our old system was dead, we worked with Tyler to design our new system. He was patient, transparent and answered all our questions as we reviewed multiple quotes. On the day of the installation the team ran into some unexpected issues (with our house), but they handled it in stride. It was a long day but they did not leave until we had cool air coming out of our vents! The follow through over the next few days was excellent as they tied up loose ends and ensured the system was working as intended. Very unprofessional people. Calling for an appointment is like getting blood from a stone. Once they do show up, some really young kids who barely know anything turn up yanking and tearing at things unprofessionally. Just had a water heater with on demand booster installed by Poormans. They came less than 24 hours after we called telling them our 21 year old unit was leaking and they replaced it with a much improved model at a competitive price. They replaced our furnace and AC unit 11 years ago and we’ve had no problems at all, and saved a lot in utilities. I found this company on a referral from an aquaintance, and here is my story:
We called because our electric heat was not blowing warm air and my house was cold. We were put on a call list so we had to wait until they had time to come out. My husband took the entire day off of work to ensure that someone would be there whenever the repairman showed up. Upon his arrival, the service man proceeded to our attic and tested lines and did the things that only they know how to do. He, then, told my husband that the issue was that we did not have enough upflow and outflow flow vents in my house and that was why were were not warm. He then proceeded to try to upsell very expensive equipment to fix our problem. My husband declined and the service man's response was well, we will have someone from our sales department call you. He charged us $130 and said our heat was working. Now, we have lived in this home for 10 years, and we have NEVER had an issue like this before. If this was a vent and ductwork problem....why did it wait 10 years to rear it's head? We DO have high electric bills in the winter (we have a totally electric home), and I had already been researching different options to get that under control, but THAT DAY....I just want my heat to work.
The next morning my family gets up to a cold house. I have hear my furnace running and running, but the air coming from the vents is not heated. I sat and thought about the issue and eventually arrived at the decision that I thought the theromastat was bad. I, then, asked my husband if the repair man had check our thermostat when he was there. My husband replied with, no, he went straight to the attic to look at the furnace and that was it. I on a Saturday morning, I take my happy and cold self to Mendard's, buy a thermostat, bring it home and install it, and guess what? NOW we are warm in our home.
On Monday morning my husband begins getting sales texts from Seth about selling us new heating system. So, I call in and speak to Chad and tell him everything I have just told you above. I am upset that I called them to FIX A PROBLEM, they charged me $130, the problem was NOT fixed, I had to THEN go and fix it myslef, and NOW I have sales people bothering us. Chad stood behind his people and believes I had been given great customer service! In fact, he was contacted by the service man at the house and gave his blessing to do the sales pitch!
Now, IF my problem had been fixed THAT DAY.... I would have loved to talk about a further purchase. HOWEVER, when you charge me to fix a problem, and then you don't fix it, and I have to diagnose and fix it myself....and then you can't even offer an apology for the experience?? I will NOT be buying my new heat pump from Poorman's.

This trip I needed information. I had a heating problem that didn't need to start with a tech at the house. Steve came out and spent some time with me, discussing the interaction between new thermostats and the furnace board logic controls. Nothing was really wrong. I wanted an explanation of how it all works. I left satisfied.

I had an maintain agreement with Rolf Griffin for years. I was told at their last visit that it would cost over 4k for a repair., but suggested that I replace the entire system with their Advanced program. I got a second opinion from Poormans, and my repair cost was $570. Mike was the technician that was sent out, and he had us back up and running right away. He was very professional, but most of all he was honest. Thanks Mike we appreciate it all. BLESSINGS!
