We have had Baethke come out a couple of times now: their quotes are fair, and offer a good assessment of what needs to be done, and what should be done. Most recently we had Mark Smith install our new kitchen faucet. Took the time after to show the functionality, as well as how to do simple repairs should it need it. Profession and timely, Mark did a great job to get the job done fast, but also thorough. Would Highly recommend for work you may need.

Ron is very professional and very informative. He was responsive and got here quickly when we needed to get our kitchen pipes fixed when it burst from the cold. The work was finished within 2 hours and the price is very comprehensive.

Ron and team came to install a water faucet and tankless water filter that I had purchased. Ron was professional, respectful, and informative, sharing different considerations and options to help me learn and make the best decision. Very happy with Baethke Plumbing and will continue to use them again in the future.

They successfully installed a new flood control and sump pump in a couple of days. They were punctual, professional, knowledgeable, and gracious in offering many explanations and check-ins. They provide both detailed descriptions of work to be completed, as well as a good synopsis of the work when it is completed. Highly recommend them!
Edit - They came back and fixed issues with a couple of toilets. Isaac and Bill did a phenomenal job and found a solution for my basement toilet that saved us money but also helped avoid future issues. Phenomenal service. Would give them six stars if I could.

Ron came and inspected the leaky pipes under our kitchen sink, assessed the problem, provided alternative options, and we proceeded with the best option for us.
Great service and quick fix.
Very pleased with the job
Firstly, the plumber did not diagnose our issue correctly. Among the main reasons we called the company to come out was because we detected water damage behind the baseboard near our shower pan. The plumber concluded it was not a plumbing issue and recommended we get another company out to assess for mold behind drywall. After the other company came out, their guy said it was definitely water getting past the caulk perimeter of our shower pan--so it appears to be a straightforward plumbing issue.
Secondly, the services quoted were way too expensive. They quoted several hundred dollars to re-caulk a tub perimeter that ultimately took me less than an hour to do. I honestly can't imagine it would have taken a professional more than 30 minutes to re-caulk this tub.
Other amounts quoted:
$200-$300 for a diagnostic of why the handles on my bathroom sink are loose
$3,200 to install a new battery back up system sump pump

Isaac did a really great job. The clog was major, and he discovered and cleared the cause. He also repaired/updated the plumbing under the kitchen sinks, which was really needed. Sinks now drain beautifully. Thank you!

The service was absolutely excellent . The technicians diagnosed and repaired several problems with 2 toilets and cleaned a drain. The also reset our sump pumps so they could be viewed on our phones. They checked all plumbing in the house as part of our yearly maintenance agreement, and found 2 leaky faucets, and the need for a back flow inspection. I could not be more grateful. I highly recommend Bathke plumbing. And their new logo is fabulous— call them for maintenance and repair!
Yurly, the technician Baethke sent, was wonderful to work with. He was professional and friendly and took the time to explain everything he did. I had received 2 notices from the Chicago utility that I had a leak so Yurly needed to do some detective work to find the source of the leak. He tested all the possible areas that could be causing the problem, including the 4 spigots on the outside of the house, the plumbing points in 4 bathrooms, the kitchen, and laundry area. Within 30 minutes, he identified the toilet that had a very slow, barely noticeable leak. Then he clearly explained possible solutions and completed the work I wanted.
I am impressed by Yurly’s detective skills and professional approach. I highly recommend Baethke Plumbing.

Very disappointed with the unprofessional approach of Baethke. I was asked to reschedule appointments twice on the day of the appointments during the time frame they were actually scheduled. I had to take time off work both days. Very disrespectful of people's times. I was planning on a big bathroom renovation project. Not only did they lose my business, they also lost my annual maintenance agreement membership.

Sometimes the situation is complicated and the installation is challenging, but the entire team at Baethke Plumbing has your back!
What you should expect from Baethke is quality service, at a fair price. I live on the 4th story, above many neighbors I care much about and messing with plumbing is a great way to make a small problem a very very big one. We had to change out an old water heater. I contacted Baethke, and Ron (master plumber) was able to perform the installation and ensure the job was done right. This was a challenging job that required follow-up and John Baethke personally reached out to me to explain in detail the situation and his team's plan to address it.
Having this experience I realize how important doing the job right really is and how little confidence I would have in the job if I had bought a tank on-sale at Home Depot. That follow up could have been a whole mix of people with the potential for damage.
I now sleep with confidence knowing that the team at Baethke has an intimate understanding of the plumbing in my building should any issue arise. They have my back. Thank you Ron, John, and the whole team for a job well done. You have a very satisfied customer.

Reached out to Baethke for a quote on a gas valve replacement based on a recommendation. They were able to come out the next day, took a thorough look at the problem and our system overall, and quoted us a reasonable price (with options!) Work was completed quickly and is high quality. Ron was fantastic! I think we found our new go-to plumber.

Josh was courteous, professional, and did excellent work. He gave me several options for the work I needed done at various costs.
Baethke was able to send someone out promptly and within the anticipated window. Ron was friendly, knowledgeable, responsive, and efficient and patiently answered our stupid questions.

After getting involved with our parents bathroom remodel (elderly and deaf) we came to realize they were gauged and taken advantage of by JB&P. It has got to the point where we have now involved the states attorney.
First - they charged $13000 dollars to cover only a handful of items (other plumbing company came and quoted 6-7000) and only had provided our parents a statement of work for 817$. We went back and fourth with them to try and get additional statements to see where all the charges were but ended up hanging up on us after they originally said they would provide. Luckily our parents took pictures of everything so we could deduce at least most of what they did.
Second - Some of the work they did was Not even up to code and may lead to back flow and potential flooding within the walls (we will have to pay another company to fix that mistake)
Third - they had to come out additional times to fix the hot water flow to the shower and part of that involved cutting open the new wall that was finished. They then left the wall damaged and did not cover or send another company to fix the wall they had to cut open.
As others mentioned this company is extremely overpriced and In this case we feel our parents were taken advantage of.
EDIT : Again - the owner is saying our parents did not mention any dissatisfaction. They are quite unhappy the Wall was cut open to fix a plumbing issue and not repaired (your mistake you should cover it). Yes the remainder of the plumbing work does work (except not up to code) but the sink and shower both work as intended. There is no mixup on services provided and the review is strictly based on the plumbing services provided that we paid 13,000 dollars for and got a statement for 800 of (what did you charge 13,000 for?!). Not sure what they consider a threat as the only thing we asked for was please provide detailed statements (to prove no gouging) or we will involve an attorney.
Josh from Baethke always provides incredible service. They are not the cheapest option but I always have confidence in their work product.
We have been having issues with our toilet so I filled out the website form and received a scheduling phone call literally right away! They were able to send someone out later the same day, and called when he was 30 mins away. This alone sets them above other plumbers we've worked with, but on top of that Mike was lovely, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. We have a working toilet now just a few hours after my original call, and a new plumbing company to call next time we need one!
Strongly Recommend: I would like to give these guys a very strong 5. Had an issue with our sump pump and wanted to replace it. Contacted them and they reached out to me really fast: Initially messages John and he mentioned that Cathi will be helping you with that. In less than 2 hours, Chris came to our house and found the issue. He provided the options that we have and of course his recommendation. He was very a helpful, polite, professional person who knew what he was doing. He answered all of our questions and was very patient. Both my wife and I were very happy about their work in general. Thanks, Chris and the entire team.

Passable work at exorbitant prices. I can not recommend enough that you stay away from Baethke plumbing - almost $1000 for hooking in a dishwasher and replacing a drain basket, less than 2 hours of work. I instantly regretted accepting their insane quote, which I would not have done without their deliriously high call-out fee. Stay away unless you enjoy paying 2 to 3 times what you should!

John Baethke and Son are the only plumbers I will ever use - they are amazing. Their entire team, from the office/scheduling department to the plumbers and the ownership were incredible to work with. They were prompt and great communicators during all interactions and their work speaks for itself. I am 100% satisfied with all work performed and would recommend them to anyone looking for a great plumber in the Chicagoland area.

We’ve used Baethke Plumbing a number of times, for tasks ranging from basic plumbing repair to installation of an overhead sewer system. They’re great. The work they’ve done for us is professional. We’ll continue using them down the line.
I found the service to be very dishonest. When I called yesterday I talked to the lady and she mentioned that for the flat rate of $695 they would fix the leaks. I asked her several times are you sure they will solve any gas leak issues for that amount? She said yes. I said well let me talk to a plumber just to be sure there was no one available but they were to call me back which they never did. When the plumber was on his way to the house he called me and I asked him about the $695. He said that's just the rate to find where the leak is at. We will charge more to fix it once we find it. This is very different than what I was told. I find this to be dishonest.

As always, the technicians @ Baethke’s are awesome, friendly, knowledgeable, and honest. Ron Page went through several options for us in the replacement of our water heater with clear explanations which helped us make a solid decision regarding our choices. There was no pressure, just honest conversation. He even contacted the water heater company to see if the warranty was still applicable on our busted water heater. (We just bought the house a year and a half ago.)
During the installation of the new water heater, Ron answered all my questions ( I like to hang out and see how such things are done) and shared tips for better and more efficient water use ( what temperature should be set to and why, etc.)
Baethke’s is an awesome company! And Ron a wonderful technician and person.

Great service. Called and they came the next day. A bit pricey but do you really want the cheapest option for something as important as plumbing? Highly recommend. Ron and Mark were fantastic.
Incredible customer service! Explained the entire process and gave me multiple options for the repair and wakes me through each option and the pros/ cons. Ended up going with the top option but once he got started he realized I didn’t need some of the work done and they took a big chunk right off the invoice. Also had an additional issue pop up this afternoon and he cane right back to take pictures and give me a quote. Customer service was beyond expectations and so happy to have found a service we can trust.

Excellent experience addressing a leaking kitchen faucet. Called company and they were able to schedule repair for next day. Plumber came out, diagnosed issue, had to replace faucet, offered me several options based on quality, design, and price. Prior to this, used company to replace original water heater. Same professionalism, customer service, and high quality work. Would definitely recommend this plumbing company for any of your residential plumbing issues… Also like that it is a family run business.
You get what you pay for. You may pay more for Baethke plumbing, but these guys are top notch. Consistent, clean, friendly. I've been using them for over 10 years now. Everytime I go with someone else, eventually I have to call Baethke to fix it.
Ron was thoroughly professional and gave a clear concise explanation of the work he was going to do
Baethke Plumbing has serviced my commercial/residential building for 15 years. Their team is top of the line professionals and give me great peace of mind they will get the job done properly. Highly recommend them!

Hired John Baethke & Son to handle our new tankless hot water heater install plumbing needs. They came highly recommended by Current Electric in Glenview -- who handled our electric needs for this with much success by the way! We had Cormac handle the work and he was super. Answered all questions, provided me multiple options for the work needed, and completed all needed updates in one single day.
The tankless unit we ordered from Amazon (Eco 18) needed to be replaced due to a hairline crack but all of the work completed by Cormac was working and looks great. I couldn't be happier. These are my new go-to plumbers going forward.
Photo of the final setup is attached. They installed clean supply and feed lines to the tankless along with pressure relief valves for both sides. Clean and sleek!
Be sure to ask for Cormac by name to handle your work -- he rocks!

Well the plumber was a good technician. The company charges a fee to come out to diagnose the issue: $89. That was to be credited to the job once determined and priced. I needed a new wax ring on a toilet. Material cost less that $15 and last time I did it the job took one hour. I wanted to hire it this time. I waited a week for them to come. The first quote was $475 (they didn't credit the trip charge). When I reminded them of what we agreed, the new price was $381. Allowing for $25 in materials and 1.3 hours labor (high side of what the plumber estimated and I know from experience) the labor worked out to be $275 per hour. They are a union shop. Understood. But that charge was still too much. Then they gave me a discount price of $361. I offered $325 figuring I had to pay the $89, then get a new plumber for maybe $225 or less. They wouldn't budge. I agreed to get it done. I then called around and got Sullivans Plumbing, Berwyn. They estimated replacing a wax ring at $185 all in and they could come the next day. But, by that time these guys had pulled the toilet (less than 10 minutes, by the way). I just want to say, though the plumber was capable, the company is not one you would deal with for value. Recap: job took less than one hour. Replaced one wax ring and 2 bolts (on the closet collar). Estimated material costs (ring $3.99 at ACE Hardware, bolts $0.60). Price $367.64. Labor rate $362.45/hour.
Ron was amazing from the initial consultation visit all the way through to the installation. Kept me posted throughout and ensured everything was working properly before finishing.
Would definitely use again.

We had a 50 gallon water heater that died. We were planning on going through Home Depot outsourcing but they said they couldn’t do the project due to space and said the best solution that they could offer was to downsize to a 29.5 gallon tank. We called John and he said not a problem. Came earlier than expected, did the entire project without any issues and they were able to still use a 50 gallon tank. They found an issue with a dryer vent too and they handled it on the spot. Quick, effective, and extremely pleasant to work with. Would highly recommend and plan on using again in the future if something comes up.

I had a tenant without hot water so I called John. He scheduled an appointment right away. He provided a very detailed inspection which I appreciated and provided 3 different options to address the problem. Then he suggested we go the most inexpensive route! New tank installed same day in a couple of hours. No mess left behind. Nice and honest guy, great service.
Called Baethke & Son again because we had water leaking in through drains in the basement. They sent someone out same day, assessed the situation, provided a repair proposal, and completed the job swiftly after we approved the proposal. This company is great. Plumbers are very thorough, skilled, reasonably priced, and always clean up after themselves. Love the service.

Dan Lowery came out and diagnosed all of my plumbing issues, gave me multiple solution options, and finished my primary job within a few hours. John Baethke & Son Plumbing is available 24 hours and if they don't have available plumbers to come out to meet your last minute request on a Sunday (like my situation), they schedule one to come out the following day in the morning. They made sure to have a dispatcher answer their calls when you initially call them then have someone else promptly follow up to book your appointment. I called on a Sunday evening due to an emergency leak from the dishwasher hose and I was booked the following Monday morning. They advised me someone would come out between an estimated time frame of 10A-1P but Ron was available to come earlier at about 9A-9:30A -- which was a pleasant surprise! I highly appreciated the attention and immediate availability. Ron assessed my situation thoroughly, explained what he noticed needed to be fixed, and showcased different payment options based on different services needed to be done, etc. I felt at ease and not pressured when he explained the payment options and he worked right away and quickly. Everything needed to resolve my situation was stocked in their truck -- thank goodness for same-day visit resolution! I highly recommend this company due to their prompt attention, thorough explanation, professionalism, and explanation and breakdown of payment costs based on services. I did not feel pressured to pay for a service I thought I did not need. Thank you so much for sending Ron out and over all quickly getting back to me during my time of need! I am a single mom and remedying my situation as quickly as possible was what I needed! I appreciate your reliability!

Overall a very good experience. I was scheduled for the next day after my call. Like everyone, I’d like plumbing jobs to be cheaper but facts are facts. I was offered five different options for service/price and that was really appreciated. The work was efficient and transparent— we walked through the entire job and as parts of the process were completed. Josh and Dan did a great job; I swear the area was cleaner after they left. I will call Baethke again.
Update: I did call again (work performed on 7-12-21) and this job was completely consistent with the last. Repairs made to our shower this time. Price/service options were reasonable and Yuriy was friendly, efficient, thorough and clean.

An above-and-beyond service experience with Josh and Rob. From the beginning, I received personable and friendly customer service; my appointment was moved sooner, the team arrived on-time, and communication was clear throughout. Josh and Rob were very respectful, making the much-appreciated effort of covering their shoes and laying down flooring for their workspace. Josh was patient in explaining the problems and providing options. He even took the time to help with extraneous tasks, like cleaning, replacing light bulbs and diagnosing a different faulty system. With this quality of service, we will continue to seek their expertise and recommend them to our friends. Thank you so much.
Yuriy was fantastic — not only did he fully repair a leaking faucet and replace cartridges to prevent leaks on another faucet, he was great at diagnosing an issue with lagging hot-water distribution. He went above and beyond in fixing the issue and we are delighted in the results. Thanks!

Danny at John Baethke & Son Plumbing was great! He came to do a sewer scope for a home I’m hoping to buy. He was 5 min early and provided a lot of helpful background on the scope and answered some other plumbing questions I had about the property. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and tidy. Will definitely use John Baethke & Son Plumbing for my next project!
The cost is double what you will pay a typical plumber… I just paid $430 for a toilet ring replacement and I’ll save an extra $200 by replacing the little rubber flapper myself… but we’ve used this company a couple of times and definitely don’t believe there is any scamming/swindling going on as mentioned in a few other reviews. They are just pricey. We had an emergency last year and it was obvious that we were prepared for a big ordeal but the plumber surprised us with a simple solution which earned our trust. Their brand is “white glove service” rather than trying to come across the most competitive/affordable… so moving forward we will DIY or hire a handyman for simple home updates but we will continue to call them first when there is an urgent need for help.

Called on a weekend about an issue with my sump pump. Got a quick call back from the owner John who walked me through everything that could be going on and had me test and describe a couple things to determine it wasn’t an emergency. Set up an appointment for later that week and just had Ron come out to diagnose the issue. He was extremely professional, thorough, and clear. These guys know what they’re doing and I’ll be calling them with any issues going forward.
Ron did a great job. I'm very satisfied with the work and experience with Baethke Plumbing. I would definitely recommend
This was my second time using the company and having Ron the technician come out. This company is very thorough, professional and informative laying out all the options. In both cases, Ron was able to identify the problem source of the leak when others could not. Highly recommend their services.
I live in lincolnwood and we’ve been using their services a few times and they’ve done a great job!! They’ve installed our water heater, cleaned up the gunk in our kitchen sink, installed a new faucet and pipe because our water pressure from the hose was low, and today they rerouted the kitchen pipe to the sewer!!! Every time they’ve sent great personnel and we’ve had an outstanding experience with Ron, the last 3 times he came!! He’s really thorough, addresses all your concerns and questions and completes the work with efficiency and accuracy!!! We will continue to use their services as long as we can!
I would recommend this company based on my overall experience with them. I used them for preventive maintenance and while the plumber who came to do that should have pointed out some issues with our boiler installation before proceeding (which caused us some hot water delay issues which we never had before the maintenance), they sent their quality control person (Josh) who basically fixed our installation issue at no charge (and it required a decent amount of work and materials). They did a great job and were very professional and explained the installation issue in detail and why it caused the hot water delay after the first plumber performed the maintenance which required draining the pump.

My bathroom had not been updated since the fifties and I had some leaking that started to show through on my kitchen ceiling directly below the bathroom. After reading some reviews I called John Baethke & Son Plumbing.
The plumber assigned to my project was Nathan. He was very professional, knowledgeable and detail-oriented. Chrissy from customer service was very responsive and friendly throughout the entire process.
The job was completed sooner than anticipated and I'm thrilled with the out come. They replaced my toilet, fixed the leak in my bathtub drain and installed a new vanity. I would use them again and highly recommend.

Ron Page and Bill from John Baethke & Sons plumbing installed a new water heater for us. They were professional, timely and courteous.
We had a great experience and would highly recommend them.
Our tech, Vanessa, came out to rod the sewer line and remove tree roots. Unfortunately the roots are so bad another method has to be used on a different day. But Vanessa was thorough and tried several approaches before she had to stop. I appreciate that she offered options every step of the way, as well as her professionalism and friendliness. She also diagnosed a problem with the toilet and got it resolved quickly. Even though we're going to need follow-up work, we are still very happy with this service technician.
I recently had Rob & Billy from John Baethke & Son Plumbing to remove and install a new toilet and remove/replace a new stop valve that had gone faulty. They were very professional and did great work. I would recommend them to anyone who needs any type of plumbing services.
Christian was awesome. He did what it took to get the situation fixed. Very professional and straightforward about the problems, his recommendations and the solutions! I highly recommend his work!
Today's interaction with John Baethke & Son Plumbing was at least my second positive experience with this company. They are the best! They were easy to communicate with from the beginning. The plumber was awesome (Nathaniel). He was thorough, upfront, spoke in a way that I could understand (since I'm not a plumber!). I highly recommend them. And as a landlord who is almost never physically present for these repairs, I was able to pay over the phone and that means more to me than anything else. Thanks again.
Answered the phone on the first ring and had a next day appointment for a leaky bathroom faucet repair or replacement. Though, they would only quote the $90 service call and would not provide (over the phone or email) any costs beyond that. I emailed photos of the faucet and requested that we discuss having a replacement on hand to eliminate a second service call, but they would not do that, stating that parts could be run out from their warehouse same day (I am skeptical here). I spoke to two other plumbers who were happy to provide repair vs. replacement costs up front, before the service call, so I could make an intelligent decision on costs and repair vs replacement. Especially, since I have the exact same faucet in another bathroom, and want them to match (not to mention the faucets are the same age and the other one is likely to leak at some point, as well). Cancelled my (convenient) next day appointment with them. Worth it to eliminate pricing surprises. Will go with someone else.
My basement flooded today and the restoration company I had in recommended I call a plumber. I came across John Baethke & Son on google and saw they had a reasonable amount of reviews, most being positive. I called and they responded quickly with availability. They came same day, even with Chicago getting tons of rain and other companies being too busy. Josh arrived shortly after and reviewed the problem and discussed the options with me. He told me what he felt the best route was to solve the problem and keep costs down. (Since we have to now replace furniture, drywall, carpets, and other personal items as well as pay for ServPros services with little to no help from the insurance company) He was patient and helpful; talked me through what he was doing; he then showed me the culprit and the progress he was making. He cleaned up and continued on his way. I don’t review companies often but felt Josh’s patience, great service, and the fact we had our issue resolved in a timely manner deserved a shout out. Thanks for your help guys, especially Josh!
We were having issues flushing the toilet for several days, where plunging seemed to help temporarily. The last plunge pushed sewage water up through our furnace room. Yuck! My husband called Baethke that night and left a message and we were shocked to receive a return call within 30 minutes from John Baethke. Thankfully, we were able to get an appt. early the next morning! Thank you John!
The next morning, Josh was prompt, courteous, listened (good eye contact) and asked enough questions to try and understand our problem. He also calmly and politely answered all of my questions. Josh tested various things, and let me know step by step what he was doing. He provided 4 different options, there was no hard sell or scare tactics (which is so refreshing!) and talked through each option with my husband on the phone. There was no judgment about the decision we made, also very refreshing, and he gave us additional options we could consider at a later date.
After everything was completed, Josh explained what he did, answered our questions, and did not rush out like many others do. Even if he had another appointment right after us, we didn't feel it. Again, very polite, considerate and engaged the entire time he was here. Shortly after Josh left, I dreaded having to clean up the furnace room, I grabbed all my cleaning supplies and was shocked that it was already cleaned! Even if it wasn't much effort on his part (maybe it was), this was definitely Above and Beyond, and shows just how considerate Josh was/is!
I'm not one to write reviews, but I don't meet very many technicians who exhibit all the positives that Josh did today. He definitely deserves my recommendation, based on my experience with today's service appointment!!
Thank You Josh!

Great team of professionals. John Baethke hires the most talented and amazing technicians. His team works hard at treating your home like it is their own. They make sure to clean up after themselves, this way you don’t have to. If you ever need to have plumbing work completed, I highly recommend John Baethke Plumbing.
Love this company! Their customer service was great from the initial call, to the text updates when your plumber is arriving, to the in-home experience. Dan was clear about what he was doing and what it would cost. He worked efficiently, respected my decisions each step of the way, and made a minimal mess considering everything he had to do. I'll be call Baethke & Son in the future for all my plumbing needs!

I called John Baethke and Son Plumbing after discovering a leak under my kitchen sink. They responded to me almost instantly and set up an appointment for me the very next day. Josh from their team came to our condo and could not have been more professional and helpful. Besides checking the kitchen sink, he also checked every water point in our condo and gave us a status update on everything. Josh gave us a few options and walked us through cost and urgency of the problems. Josh was able to fix the kitchen sink and install a new garbage disposal as well fix a sink handle issue in one of our bathrooms. I highly recommend using John Baethke & Son Plumbing!

I recently purchased a home. John Bathke & Son Plumbing was recommended to me by my home inspectors at Chicago Building Inspections. I also noticed that John Bathke & Son Plumbing had serviced the home prior to my ownership. After reading such good reviews and getting a recommendation, I would have to agree.
I made an appointment, which ended up having to be rescheduled because they had an emergency service they needed to perform for another client. They reduced my flat fee by 50% because of the inconvenience, which was nice.
The plumber who came to service my house was Ron. He has nearly 40 years of experience. He was professional, personable, patient, and explained things plainly. I didn’t feel like he was trying to sell me on things that were unnecessary. He had practical solutions for what I would want done.
After going through a number of concerns, wants and needs for my plumbing situation, Ron gave me several options at various price points. Ron started part of the work right away and scheduled out the rest of the job for another time. I’m looking forward to getting the rest of the job done and have good confidence in their service and skill. I would absolutely recommend them.

Every aspect of the service at John Baethke and Son Plumbing is extremely professional, from the booking and confirmation of the appointment through the completion of the work. The customer is given a time when they can expect the service person to arrive and then given a call when they are on their way. We have been lucky enough to have Yuriy doing the plumbing work for us on several occasions. He is not only a skilled craftsman but also a very hard worker. He makes an extra effort to complete the job as smoothly as possible. We have already used this company three times and their service has remained exemplary! Not many companies can claim that.

Once again, Baethke Plumbing comes through! I discovered water leaking from my basement ceiling, and was able to get an appointment scheduled right away. John G. was on time, and very helpful explaining everything (the problem, the options). He took care of the leak in the 1st floor shower and communicated every step. He was very careful and cleaned up beautifully. He also made recommendations on how to handle the water damage in the basement. The whole process took under 2 hours. Excellent service - as usual! I highly recommend this plumber & the company.

Major re-do of catch basin (closing off) and redirecting all basement drains to the sewer main. Project timed and executed perfectly, plumbers always appearing on time, diligent and hardworking, courteous and considerate of our property, good at keeping us clearly advised what was going on, finished right on time projected.

Nathan did a terrific job replacing my hot water heater. He took the time to answer all my questions and to do a thorough professional installation. Baethke is certainly not the cheapest plumbing company around. But if you want a quality job done right the first time with no aggravation, sometimes it is worth the extra expense. You can’t go wrong with Nathan and Baethke from a quality point of view.

Waste of time and a scam.
The website claimed I could get an estimate online, except it doesn't, only scheduling an appointment. The website claims, no-obligation cost estimate today and Straightforward pricing and upfront quotes. Without that option on the form, I tried a more direct approach.
So I tried the phone number, and instead got a run around. In short, this company will not provide an estimate unless you pay to have someone come out, so those two sales pitches found in print are lies. Worse yet, it took me 3 phone calls as they kept passing me to an estimator to call me back, who was never in the office when I called, who did not have a dedicated line nor voicemail to contact directly, and when I finally caught her, gave me this pay-to-play pitch different than the company's website and their own customer support agents claimed was possible.
My job was a basic one: replace a faucet, I would even buy the materials. And they could not give me an estimate for that basic work without me paying to have someone come in my home.
During a pandemic, this kind of on-site and pay-to-play quoting isn't OK. Worse yet, for me to find out this information, I had to chase them.
Update: the company replied, which confirms what I have posted. Yes I did not provide my address, but did provide my zip code. That should be enough for an online estimate. Beware this company!

I need to disconnect old gas stove ( using now) and connect new one. Called and asked for price.
Did not give me price over the phone. They need to see how my old gas stove looks for $89. Then and only then will provide the price for SO COMPLICATED work. Professional service.
We had water backing up into our basement and after looking at some good reviews decided to call John Baethke & Son Plumbing. We got ahold of someone instantly and within 10 mins had someone on their way to our home to help us. Nathan arrived within an hour and was able to assess our problem, figure out what needed to be done, give us multiple estimates/options to solve the problem, and fix the issue correctly. He had excellent customer service skills, was patient and able to explain everything to us thoroughly. Overall it was a great experience, which we were so grateful for considering the problems we were dealing with. My father was here visiting and, having owned a general construction company for over 30 years, has dealt with many plumbing companies, and he was also very impressed with Nathan’s professionalism and personality. This was the first time we ever needed to call a plumber, but I’m happy to say I think we found one we will continue using.
I called around for most of the week and everyone was booked. I called John Baethke and Son and they sent someone out right away. The plumbing issue here was quite the mess but Nathan handled it all with ease. He was incredibly informative about what needed to be done and he got right to it. Best experience I’ve ever had I strongly recommend them. Nathan is the greatest of all time! Promise you won’t be disappointed

I was very impressed with his knowledge and expertise. He completed the job in a fast and efficient manner. I was extremely pleased with the service and I would recommend this company to anyone.

AVOID Jon Baethke and Sons for plumbing work.
Poor. Visit 1: $300 Had a leaky disposall on the sink. Technician was very respectful had shoe slips and wore a double face mask. He repaired 1 section of the ultra cheap white plastic (which was improperly installed by the last plumber from a different company). He tested it and said it worked, I had him fill up the sink all the way and the work began to leak, he repaired it again. We tested in again and it didn't leak, but within 20 mins of leaving tenant checked the other side of the sink and now that was leaking. Technician (Dan Lowry) had to come back to retighten the other side which was jostled during his work. Not a great experience, but not a terrible experience. Also no breakdown of parts and labor on the invoice.
Visit 2: $467 A pipe had burst in the basement during the winter storm. A different company (First Plumbing, fyi they are 60$ per visit not 90$) had come in an emergency to shut it off. First Plumbing were trying to charge 600$ some dollars to repair a ruptured copper tee. Also they turned the whole houses water off, they said to access the valve which unfortunately was installed behind the dishwasher it would cost 250$ to move the dishwasher for liability... wouldn't suggest first plumbing either. I said I'll have JB&Don come to fix it. I was expecting around 300$ again. It was maybe 20$ worth of copper maximum and a 45 minute job. They knew where the pipe was and knew the extent of the repair. JB&Son came out to fix it and said it would be 380 to repair + the 90 visitation fee. I was told by the office (Kathy) the 90 fee would get applied to the work but the technician ensured me this was incorrect. So for 45 mins and maybe 20$ of parts I was charged 470. Expensive, but not the end of the world.
This is where things go downhill.
After completion, the technician didn't turn off the cold water valve in the basement, didn't turn the house main water back on, and didn't check to see if the pilot light on the water heaters went out. This caused 3 days of hot water disturbance for my valued tenants.
Visit 3: Attempted 2000$ charge which was denied, and was still charged 190 for off hours visit. After my valued tenants had to put up with the debacle (and a total lack of apologies from JB&Son) the next technician comes in and tells me that my plumbing was incorrectly installed and that my exhaust vent was disconnected. The charge will be 1,970 dollars to repair 1. Incorrect plumbing - I know that my plumbing was installed improperly, which is why the inline shut off was installed. The cold water inline left open by the last technician (Patrick Sumrall) and after it was closed the hot water worked fine. Glad I didn't pay 700$ to cap my lines when there was already a shut off installed. 2. Vent disconnected. The technician (Josh Hall) told me I had a vent disconnected from the wall, when I asked for pictures it shows the vent clearly connected. He said it would be fixable with self tappers and tape but that company policy is to replace the whole venting system. At most 100$ in parts and 2 hours of labor max. The charge was 1,300. 600$ per hour??? Also I asked the technician to test it with a monoxide detector. He said he didn't have one, but knew there is carbon monoxide in the area. I have a carbon monoxide detector in the utility room which was reading 'green' or non detectable. I called the office spoke to Kathy again and told her of the situation. She said she isn't a plumber but stands by their plumbers word. That this call is a separate issue from my last visit and she would call the plumber and give me a call back. she never called back and proceeded to ignore my next phone calls. Then I was charged 190$ for the off hour site visit. The technicians themselves are pleasant and punctual which is the only reason they didn't get an F. They are stuck at the mercy of the mgmt. But the management at JB&Sons are incapable of understanding the situation, non responsive when something goes wrong, and overcharging for work.
Baethke Plumbing did a fantastic job! They came out immediately, gave me a quote, took the time to get the job done right (and explain everything that had been worked on), and left the place in great shape. Dan was awesome, and I will recommend Baethke & Son to all my clients going forward!
Ron Page roughed in plumbing for a kitchen renovation we are doing. He changed the location of a gas line. Excellent work. On time. Friendly. In and out in a few hours. Ron can to look at the job last month and made the proposal. I like that the person who looked at the job and made the estimate was the same person who did the work.
Ron Page was a polite, knowledgeable and experienced professional. He advised well on practical alternatives, giving us a range of solutions for our plumbing repairs and upgrades. We have high confidence in our final plans, as a result of the honest discussions provided by Ron. We highly recommend Ron as well as John Baethke and son Plumbing.
Now that the work has begun, we continue to be pleased with the very professional work quality, as well as the efficient progress.

John Baethke is everything you can hope for out of a great plumber. Right on time, professional and they got the job done. Nathan, who came out to do the servicing was extremely transparent about everything he showed up to do as well as informing me about the additional items that needed immediate attention. Great experience, great company and I would highly recommend!!
Had my kitchen sink faucet replaced. The plumber that did the work, Nathan, was very professional and swapped out faucets correctly. New faucet works great. Arrived on time, wore shoe covers to keep my place clean, provided a full list of options depending on the level of repair I was looking for. Had follow up from the owner after I had questions about pricing so I really appreciate that. Thank you!

Cormoc was very nice, professional, and efficient. He asked us about our problem. He then explained exactly what he was going to do to determine the cause of our problem and how much it would cost and made sure we understood before he started. During the process He discovered a problem we didn't know about that was the city's responsibility. He and his colleagues coordinated with the city for an inspector to come out. Regardless of the outcome of the inspection, I would strongly recommend anyone with a sewer or plumbing problem to call Baethke & Son. I especially appreciated the documentation explaining the work done, cost and the warranty. Very professional.

This is my second time working with their plumbing team. Every part of the experience was professional, easy and well done. They charge fairly for their quality work. Meaning it’s not cheap, because it’s not shoddy work. That said, they are not price gouging. They present multiple options and are open to working with you.
I highly recommend!

Cormac was wonderful, he was very thorough in his inspection to diagnose the problem, went over all of my options with me, answered all of my questions, and went above and beyond to fix the problem quickly and efficiently. He also gave me referrals for a handyman service and a reconstruction company to handle wet drywall. I am so glad I called John Baethke & Son, right from the get go where a live person took all of my information and communicated well, I knew I was in good hands. Tyler even called me this morning to confirm that he had someone to send and they would be here within 30 minutes. Everything was so professional, I am impressed! Thank you Cormac!

They did a very thorough job doing the full plumbing inspection of our house and gave us some very informative feedback so we could make decisions on what to do. The work was all done really well, explained well and we feel better knowing all the plumbing in our house is in good condition. I think the yearly plumbing inspection is a great idea and I like how we get updates on the arrival of the technician and a picture of them so we know exactly what to expect.
I asked Tom to give me a proposal on three new toilets for my home. He followed up 2 weeks later but I was not ready. 3 months passed and finally I was ready. I ordered the items through Baethke Plumbing, they scheduled the job and Tom was on time and precise about his work. I love my Baethke toilets and the team that made it happen. Cheers to John Baethke & Son Plumbing!!!

This is the third time I had John Baethke & Son to fix the master bathroom toilet. The technician Eddie Walsh recommended replacing the flushing system. I agreed, and the work was done in a timely and professional manner. It looks like the toilet is fully refurbished. My concern is that it took three visits to fix the toilet.
We've been having John Baethke & Son Plumbing servicing our needs for our single family home for years, and have been happy working with them. They are punctual, and always explain everything well (including the fees) prior to commencing the work. Josh, specifically, has been easy to work with, neat with his work, and has always completed what they set out to.

I rarely give Google reviews and feel compelled to give John Baethke and Son Plumbing 5 stars. Every person I communicated with at this organization was courteous, professional and prompt.
I’d like to specifically call out Nate who worked on the project in our kitchen. He was on time, gave pricing options with pluses and minuses and explained every step of the process.
Without question we’d use them again and appreciate their work.
I was very satisfied with the service and technical knowledge I received from Josh. He gave me a range of options to fix the issues I was having with no pressure. He kept me updated on progress and thoroughly explained what he was doing and why. I have used Baethke Plumbing for years and highly recommend their services.

Josh H., the serviceman from John Baethke & Son Plumbing who came out to repair a gas leak in our furnace, was a consummate professional. First, he performed a thorough investigation of the premises, assessing not just the furnace area but the piping throughout the condo, the water heater, etc. (I had mentioned that we are attempting to sell the place). He then presented me with a clear plan with several options and price points, and allowed me to choose the one that fit. The new valves and connections he applied to the leaking pipes appear very sturdy indeed, and he ran a pressure test which confirmed that the pipes no longer leak. Finally, he prepared a detailed report of his work. He answered all my questions and was forthcoming with helpful tips. As represented by Josh H., John Baethke & Son Plumbing does very good quality work and is a contractor I would recommend to anyone.

Very satisfied with the work that was performed by Tom S. of John Baethke plumbing. He explained in detail my options & his experience & knowledge guided us into picking the best option. He's a gentleman & very patient while we thought about our options. Very clean work & would definitely use this company again!
I definitely felt as if I was being taken advantage of by folks who assumed I was a young kid who doesn't know anything about plumbing (and in fairness, they aren't far off--I am a young kid, and I have a very limited knowledge of plumbing).
I was quoted $900 for a very simple shut off valve replacement, and I overheard the plumber talking about selling services to me while on the phone with his supervisor. It's a $10 part and maybe 15 minutes of work. While I understand that applicable services are recommended after a diagnostic is run, and I obviously understand that you need to make your money, I really don't appreciate that language being used. A plumber is here to help fix a problem, not to up-sell me on some kind of service agreement.
The bottom line is that you can find someone more honest at a better price. My plumber was very kind to me and helped me to understand the problem at hand, but I certainly felt like I was being taken advantage of. The value is just not there, and it seems to me that they're valuing money over helping clients.
Josh came to our condo and spent a couple hours and fixed the main issue we had with our shower, as well as a few other little things that were not working perfectly. Thank you! We would not have a working bathroom without you.

I was 'accidentally' quarantined in Florida for 3 months, and when I came home, my garbage disposal wasnt working. Ugh! I was fortunate enough to come across Baethke Plumbing. The woman I spoke to on the phone to set up my appt couldnt have been more helpful and accommodating. Even with all the flooding that was currently going on in Chicago, she was able to get a plumber scheduled in less than 48 hours. Their communication about the time they would arrive was great, and when Tom came to my house I was impressed with his 'covid compliancy' practices and procedures. He was knowledgable, professional and made additional recommendations. He was able to fix my garbage disposal for a fair price and I couldnt have been more pleased with the service I received. 5 out of 5 stars and would highly recommend!
John Baethke & Son Plumbing made a stressful plumbing fix easy and painless! The office was highly communicative every step of the way. Eddie was prompt, professional, cordial, and efficient. An excellent experience from beginning to end!

Ron was wonderful. Showed up within the hour of my emergency, wasn't hurried or pushy. Gave me options, was quick and efficient, and cleaned up after himself.
WOW!!! Look forward to doing business with you again because of Ron.
The receptionist was very kind, calming and reassuring as well.
We were very pleased with John Baethke & Son's service. I really like how they gave us a tight half hour window for the service technician's arrival and sent an email with a photo of our technician. Cormac was very professional and I could tell that he was well trained in not only plumbing, but also in how to interact with clients. He showed me exactly what work needed to be done and quoted the flat rate before starting work - no hidden costs (yay!). We'll definitely be using John Baethke & Son Plumbing again.
John Baethke and Son Plumbing is not cheap, but their prices are fair and their work is consistently excellent.
One evening a couple of weeks ago we were disturbed by an otherworldly moaning and growling coming from our basement. We called Baethke and made an appointment two days hence to find out if malevolent spirits had indeed taken residence in our ejector pump.
Our knight in shining armor came in the guise of a brave, young technician, Dan, who came out to do battle with whatever creatures were mauling the basement water goddesses.
In reality, it was just a failing sump pump and Dan was able to quickly diagnose the problem and offer a choice of increasingly less affordable solutions. (Alas, being a homeowner costs money!) Happily, Baethke does offer a range of products, and Dan was very good about explaining the pros and cons of each without trying to upsell any of the devices. We chose the most economical (about $1400) and Dan was able to immediately install our new sump pump. He was polite, knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient.
Dan again came out the next week after we scheduled our yearly inspection. Happily, this was uneventful except for a minor toilet fix in the upstairs bathroom. What we loved about Dan (besides the fact that he ALWAYS covered his shoes with those little booties) was his cheerful thoroughness. Though this visit did not net Baethke much money that day, we never felt that Dan was rushing the inspection so that he could get to his next job. He checked every bathroom, every sink, every shower completely and deliberately. Though there were no problems to speak of, Dan let us know what we could expect in the future so that we could budget for whatever was coming down the pike. (Water Heater, we know you’re coming for us!) He also cautioned us about early warning signs of impending plumbing doom.
So to recap: if you’re looking for a cheap plumbing fix, go somewhere else. However, if you want quality work done by superior technicians, Baethke is the place to go. Ask for Dan. He’s great!

They charge a service fee to come out (it doubles on Saturday and quadruples on Sundays). I had a strange water issue that seemed like it could have been a frozen pipe. However, it didn't seem like it SHOULD be.
A tech came out, did very minimal inspection and troubleshooting, then gave me several very expensive quotes for running a thaw machine. I asked if there was any kind of guarantee that doing so would fix my issue, but there wasn't.
I ended up solving my issue myself by cutting into my drywall to examine my pipe following the recommendation from another plumber. It was frozen due to a frozen hvac line from another building unit that was running next to the water line.
The other plumber would have charged about 1/3 the price to thaw it. I did so with a hair dryer with confidence after actually finding the root cause.
Annoying service fees, expensive quotes, poor troubleshooting, no guarantee of problem resolution, and, finally, they also signed me up for a spam email newsletter without consent. F that.
This my very first time using a plumber. I have been able to do basic repairs previously. I found the company on Google and was hopeful that they would live to my expectations. Cormac was prompt/on time, very polite, clear about the estimate and timely with competing the job. He gave me options and let me know what he thought would work. Would highly recommend him and this company! Now I know who to call for any plumbing issues!
Every city should have plumbers like those at Chicago's John Baethke & Son Plumbing. They sent Rodney Tracy to do our work this afternoon. Needless to say, he was efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you again, John Baethke & Son! Rodney came back again today, Dec. 30, 2015. He and Barry P., the guy on the phone, are always professional and efficient, as are all the other Baethke workers I've ever dealt with. If I could give them ten stars, I would.

I wanted to give your company praise for the wonderful installation of plumbing at my home; as well as, praise from several Clients for the numerous kitchen and bathroom renovation projects at their homes & businesses. The quality of the rough plumbing install; overall regard for the design of the spaces; and, care of the finished product, is of the highest quality.
In addition I’m extremely happy with how thorough you and your staff are on site with the protection of the existing properties, communication with owners and the overall professionalism of your company.
I couldn’t be happier to continue our working relationship on my property and with my future renovation and new construction projects.

I was thoroughly informed about what options I had to remedy my plumbing issues. The information was clarified easily to me, who does not normally have a clue about these things. Not only was the service done well, but it was timely, and I felt that I could trust the integrity and expertise of all who were involved. I don't think one should fool around when it comes to plumbing. I would highly recommend John Baethke & Son as your go to for all your plumbing Needs. Not only was the plumbing service good, but the overall service - the scheduling, all communications and reminders - was exemplary. I like to see a well run business that focuses upon all the details. This is one of those.
Our undermount sink was falling down on one side & our faucet leaked. Cormac assessed the situation and presented us with various options and price points to fix the issues. He was very professional and fixed everything just the way he said he would. We definitely recommend John Baethke & Son and will use them again when we have another plumbing need! Thank you!
I have used Baethke and Sons twice. Both times service was great. Plumbing issues were completely resolved. Work was explained very clearly and area was left clean. They aren't the cheapest plumbers around, but hey you get what you pay for and I would recommend them to anyone looking for quality.

Showed up outside of the specified time window and quoted me a price 50-100% higher than the highest price they said it would be over the phone. I was then charged a $90 service fee for telling me something I already knew (that the hot water heater needed to be replaced). The technician was courteous and knowledgeable, but I would not recommend unless you want to overpay.

I hired Baethke & Son to replace my old toilet in July 2016. It's been several months now, and everything is working great. However, I was told the Gerber toilet would be white, along with a white toilet seat. It wasn't until much later under bright light that I noticed the toilet is not white, but rather a light beige color. It especially looks more so when compared to the white toilet seat. On top of that, the tank looks slightly lighter than the toilet, but darker than the seat. It's like I have a tri-colored toilet. I don't know if this color was the only one on the truck, and the plumber didn't want to admit that fact to me as I said I wanted white. Baethke & Son are very good plumbers, and I have used them once or twice before this, but I doubt I'll use them again as they are very expensive. This time it cost me over $1,155! I recently looked online for Gerber toilets, but didn't see a single one costing more than $500. That means the rest of the service call was $655! No, can't afford them in the future.
WOW!! I've never been the excited about a plumbing company before. From Kathy, the receptionist that booked the appointment, to the service man, Nathan who came out for the service call, all I can say is HIGH 5's EXCEPTIONAL Service!! Nathan was polite, efficient, patient and THE BEST!! Nathan and Kathy have made a raving fan of our design company! We willl continue to use this company in the future!!

I had a leaking toilet and some other minor problems with faucets. I thought since they were coming I’d have the main sewer line rodded out as well as it hadn't been done in 8 years and we have lots of tree roots. They quoted $2100 for the work. I told them to drop the rodding since we weren’t experiencing any backups. The price was then $1100. So I told them just fix the toilet which needed a new tank gasket and a new seal on the flange. They quoted $876. I knew that was a ridiculous price and told them no thanks. We bought a new kohler gasket on Amazon for $20 and a new seal for $6 at Home Depot and my husband made the repair today—it took him 2 hours mostly because he had to wait for the wd40 to work so he could loosen the bolts. I assume it would take an experienced plumber less than an hour. $26 for parts. $800 per hour for labor
then?
The response from the owner is inaccurate. I listed all the items in my review. 4 items is not lengthy. The toilet is 19 years old and just started leaking last week. It’s to be expected that a toIlet in use for 19 years would need new seals at some point—that is not negligence. The faucets are minor annoyances and have only been an issue for a few months. The stoppers need adjustment on 2 sinks and the kitchen faucet is was installed 7 years ago and is loose. It operates without leaking etc. The sewer line was rodded outb8 years ago. I would not call that 10 years of “negligence.” We did NOT ask them to inspect anything else.
Highly recommend. I've hired JB & Son 3 times and every time they show up on time. Josh is very professional and gets the job done right the first time and I never have problems once he is finished. They have worked on both my home and business.
Amazing service, prompt, friendly personnel all around, quality repairs for a fair price.
Fast forward to when they came out for the second portion of repiars to my sewer line itself. The two technicians Josh and Dan were phenomenal. Will definitely be using John baethke and Son Plumbing for all of my future needs.
Excellent Service. Had a huge leak and they were able to fit me in last minute. Cormac was a total pro. Though obviously technically trained I was more impressed with the customer service from both the office but even more so from Cormac. He took the time to walk through the issue, presented multiple fixes and even went as far to empty out all the bowls that had filled up because of the leak after he was done fixing the leak. He even took it upon himself to setup a consultation with Chicago Water & Fire(they dry/fix the damaged drywall and wood) as he noticed they were working on another project across the street. He was able to get an estimator over same day as the leak was fixed. Highly recommend. Will continue to be by go to.

The service and people were excellent. The cost was a shock and I am still wondering if their pricing structure is worth it. If it were not for the cost, I would give them 5 stars. Here is what they did for nine hundred+ dollars. ($900+).
Removed garbage disposal. Replaced Faucet Supply Tube. Installed New Faucet Supply Tube. Replaced Sink Waste Pipe (Single Sink), Installed New PVC Waste Piping, Strainer To Wall, Including the Basket Strainer

The service person was friendly, but was originally quoted $1,000 to replace a bathroom faucet. When I said I had other lower cost options, they came down to $500. What an embarrassingly bold attempt to take advantage of a customer.
Have used them before for our condo assoc. but will def be shopping around next time since this quote illustrated a lack of trustworthiness.

They are very expensive, so if you don't want to spend much, go elsewhere. I've used them a few times and each experience has been fantastic. It's like having a highly educated and trained engineer come to your home. They are super-professional, polite, keep their workspace clean, and do work that doesn't have to be redone. If there are two guys on a job (in one case that I paid hundreds of dollars for a simple dishwasher install, there was a second guy who was training), they stick to talking business with each other as well as with the customer.
I especially saw the difference when I had to deal with some other plumbers. A knowledgeable guy I knew did something plumbing-wise that I later learned was unethical. Another guy was loud and cursed often and pretty much handed off most of the work to his less-experienced subordinate. On another occasion, a guy who called himself a plumber hired some clueless people who didn't even know enough to turn off the valve, so water burst out and filled the floor. An individual plumber who was recommended did not explain the situation well and seemed rushed. A couple guys who worked together on a project talked loudly with each other about all non-work issues, worked slowly, and I really didn't trust them. Baethke is trustworthy and definitely a cut above everyone else. You'll just have to pay more for such stellar service.
I also recommended them to a neighbor who was going to move and manage her condo from another state, and I warned her about the high prices. She said she didn't care because she wanted to make sure they did a good job so that she wouldn't have to worry about any problems. She used them and was pleased.
True to my word I called John Baethke & Son Plumbing for the next plumbing job I had. This time I was helping my friend who happens to be 90 because his building has recently re-piped and he can now have a washer dryer in his condo unit.
I was able to get a next day appointment and Nathan from John Baethke came out and determined what work will need to be done within my friend's unit to install a washer driyer. Previous to his arrival the office called and gave me 45 minutes warning when the technician would arrive and Nathan came on time and insisted in putting on shoe-covers to walk around the apartment. He was curteous and took notes on what we told him, snapped photos and since we did not have blueprints Nathan took the time to describe the various scenarios the plumber might encounter depending on where the piping was in the walls.
Nathan said he would likely be able to turn around a proposal by sometime next week.

Cormac came to my house to give me a quote on installing a new hot water heater and he was terrific. Cormac is obviously very knowledgable and he did a great job of selling John Baethke & Son Plumbing's service. The quote was higher than the other ones I received but I felt if I hired them, it would be well worth the expense. Because I am currently between jobs, we decided to go with another well-rated company but will consider using John Baethke & Son Plumbing in the future.

Josh was great. He explained all of our options, didn't hard sell us on what to do, performed the job expertly and fast and explained everything he did in detail. John Baethke & Son has never let us down and will always be our plumber.
If you don't care about value or integrity, go ahead and call these guys.
They charge $89.95 just to come out, and check multiple times that you understand that you have to pay them at the time they come to your house. I asked if the charge was applicable against repair costs, and they said yes. I agreed, and asked what the hourly rate was...they said they didn't have one, and would quote a price fr the repair in total once they looked at it. I should have seen this as a red flag, but agreed anyway.
I asked them to come out to connect my dishwasher discharge hose to an EXISTING p-trap, and plug the connection on the disposal where the appliance store incorrectly connected the hose. Since the p-trap was disconnected (and left open), it had dried up and sewer gas was coming back under the sink. The repairman recommended a smoke check of the plumbing vents for $1100 to locate where the smell was coming from. I told him this wasn't necessary, and all that we needed was to have the lines reconnected under the sink (30-60 minutes of work, max). He then said, yeah, that's probably right and quoted me $395 PLUS the $89.95 dispatch fee. When I questioned the amount and asked for an hourly rate, he just said we are union and asked me what I thought it should cost.
I support union labor, and am fine paying fair rates, but I am unwilling to pay $485 for what amounts to an hour's work. I left work early, picked up the parts and fixed it myself in under an hour. I would not trust these guys with anyone I cared about, especially if they are susceptible to buying into the need for useless up-sells like smoke checks...$1100, sheesh.

I've used John Baethke Plumbing for 3 years now. They are always on time, very organized and detailed oriented and give a fair price.
I just had them out for a clogged kitchen sink. They were at my place in 30 minutes and had the job done in 10 minutes!
I will not go to any other plumber again!
Baethke & Sons are by far the best in the ChicagoLand Area!!!
Josh Hall arrived right on time, got right to work, and did a very good job. He installed a new water heater and repaired a rusted pipe. He was very kind and courteous. His helper Dan was also very friendly. They finished the job earlier than we expected.

Tom and his partner were very professional and courteous. With the quote ever part of the job was explained in detail. I had no water pressure in tub or shower. They took their time and solved the problem. I highly recommend for honesty in pricing and making sure the job was complete.

We've hired these guys a few times for a number of jobs. They're professional and get the job done. I feel like the prices might be a bit high, but it's hard to compare, as we usually just go with them.
One thing I love, as a home owner hiring people to do various work - they're not stuck in the stone age. I can schedule online, they send emails and texts with pictures of who is showing up, they send emails with pictures and videos of the job, and other things that make the whole deal more convenient.

I'm annoyed that I paid them 90 dollars for a quote that was ridiculously overpriced. I wanted a toilet replaced. I'd bought the replacement toilet already. I was not interested in any other work or options. I made that clear. They charged me 90 dollars to qoute me 760 dollars to install a toilet (with a year of free service on a toilet that I have a warranty on). I got quotes from three competing plumbers and the next highest was 230 dollars. I got it done for 180. So, their work might be fine, but I bought a toilet and had it installed for literally less than one third of what they were asking for install alone.

Baethke always does a great job fixing whatever issue you have on the first visit. Dan L. was our tech. He was professional, suggested several alternatives, gave us the cost estimates upfront and cleaned up the worksite when the job was done.
This is the second time we have used Baethke plumbing and it was another great experience with exceptional attention to detail, explanations and issue resolution. Post-Covid times and can tell their implementation was very well thought out in terms of contactless consultation, wearing of PPE and booties for shoe covering. Very clean process as well. Highly recommend!

These guys were extremely helpful. Our systems backed up and we were unable to get anyone to come out and help us. These guys answered the call and promptly came by and fixed everything the same day. They were helpful and informative. We had some follow up questions and their team was prompt to schedule follow up visits and help us troubleshoot (issues turned out to be totally unrelated to the product installed as well as their installation, but they helped us out to determine the cause all the same, it was incredibly generous!) Would recommend for sure!
So I called in asking for some pricing on installing a hot-water tank. I was told they could not give a ball-park figure over the phone and I had to pay for an $89 inspection fee first even though my home is just down the street from their main office. I also told them that I was not pleased with a previous quote I was given by Home Depot of over $600. I agreed to the $89 inspection charge as the dispatch person sounded honest and very friendly. After waiting for them for almost the entire day, a get a call mid-afternoon from their dispatch telling me that the owner wanted me to know that the job was probably going to cost $1000 and asking if I still wanted to schedule the appointment. Do I really have to waste anymore time here, giving my answer to that silly question? Why couldn't they just tell me that yesterday instead of making me waste my day waiting on them? Horrible customer service and worse, a horrible way to treat home owners in your very own neighborhood. I imagine that with those prices, they are probably taking advantage of the elderly or some very rich people who don't care about spending a $1000 bucks on something that will take no more than a few hours of work. Outrageous, but at the very least they saved me from paying their $89 inspection fee.

Great work and communication. I don’t have any sump pump knowledge and the contractor explained everything and broke it down for me to understand. Highly recommend.

Cormac from Baethke responded quickly and professionally to our emergency need and kept at it till it was done. He even needed to call in Hector for assistance as the job proved to be a challenge. They got it finished on time for us to use the building and did a great job cleaning up. I'd have no problem calling Baethke again.
I’m regretting calling this company. Worst ever experience. As we had a minor issue in bathroom faucet, I called him and he charged $2400 for replacing it. In the middle of work , again he charged 1000$ more, all total $3400. In addition, he didn’t fix the bathroom tiles and said to call another guy to fix , which will cost us a lot. I spoke with the apartment plumber and he said that the plumber charged 3 times more price. Disappointed ?.
Excellent. Josh asked if there were any other issues than the one i called on. When i shared with him a 20+ year issue he was able to tell me what n how it needed to be fixed when other experts couldn't. That will be a call for another day. In the meantime my original problem is fixed n i have the product to maintain it. Awesome plumbers.

FANTASTIC JOB !!! This was the second time I used John Baethke plumbing for work.. First time was just as great as the second. The plumber PAT was awesome this last visit, he really worked hard, the work was rough due to the age and corrosion of the pipes but he stuck to it and got it DONE !!!

I have been using these guys for years, and I have always been happy with their work. Sam was thorough and pleasant, and he did a good job. My only caveat is they are not cheap! But I do feel like you get what you pay for with home repair.
I paid $ 89 for a Tecnician to tell me they have never worked on these booster pumps. It was absolute disappointment. They were recommended by Tramco the manufacturer of the pumps.
Bought a Rheem Tankless Hot Water Heater and had a contractor install it. I wasn't happy with the answers or remedy I received from my contractor when the first time I went to do laundry, the unit was making loud noises and vibrating. I called Rheem customer care center and spoke to a technician. Everything I described was pointing to a ventilation problem. I told my contractor and he came out and said he didn't see a venting problem.
That's when I went on line at Rheem and there was a list of 27 Plumbers recommended that were Tankless experts. I called John Baetnke & Son because they were the closest. After reviewing the problem, the tech called Rheem tech support. The tech said he was told by Rheem that either 2 inch or 3 inch PVC vent pipes should be used but not a mixture. My contractor used 2 inch pipes for the first 15 inches that lead to 3 inch pipes the rest of the way. The tech said he would have to reschedule since he didn't have the 3 inch pipes. I paid $180 for that visit. He said that the work work would cost $800 to replace the 2 inch to 3 inch, 15 to 18 inches in length to resolve the problem. I needed the problem resolved so I agreed. He came back a couple of days later and replaced the pipes but the loud noise and vibration was still there. He said it was a venting issue per Rheem. To stop the vibrating, he put 3 screws into the cover but it still was vibrating and loud. My wife said check the outside venting so he went to get a tall ladder. Upon return, he said the ladder wasn't tall enough to reach the vent. But my wife paid the bill. I called Rheem and told them I wasn't spending any more money to a system that wasn't working properly. So Rheem tech support, Linda sent out their Warranty crew and they replaced the unit, but it still made a loud noise and was still vibrating. They said it was the outside vent. They didn't have a ladder tall enough but went they got close enough, they could see the heat venting from the side cover vs the exhaust hole. They determined the cover outside was on backwards. I called my General Contractor a told him of the finding and when he came out with a tall ladder, his worker reversed the cover and the loud noise and vibrating stopped. I paid $1000+ total to John Baetnke & Son Plumbing to resolve my problem which wasn't resolved. Disappointed in the cost for work not resolved and in my General Contractor.

Technician Tom Saint John came to our home to assess our plumbing issue, provided a quote, and completed the work all in one morning. He was professional, hard working, and knowledgeable. I appreciate the company being tech savvy, using iPads for quotes and payment processing, texting me a photo of whom to expect at my door, and emailing quote, receipt, and COI promptly. Thanks for a great experience.

We had a leak with unknow origins damaging the ceiling of a downstairs neighbor. We needed a rapid response and thorough diagnosis.
We gave Baethke a description of our issue and in short order they arranged for a technician who upon extensive analysis determined the cause, proposed a variety of solutions and executed an option ideal for what was best for our needs.
This degree of expertise doesnt come cheap.
The value, time-savings and relief this work affords you makes the ecperience all the more worthwhile.

We had an Angie's List coupon for John Baethke & Son Plumbing. We had just bought it pre-emptively thinking that something would go wrong before it expired. Sure enough, leaky toilet leading to flooding on a second floor bathroom. The appointment was easy to set up. The plumber came promptly and on time. He was super professional and quick. It wasn't the biggest or most difficult job in the world. But, it did require him to get a specialized widget (a gasket I think) from a nearby specialty store. All in all, it was really everything I'd want from a plumber service call.
Baethke Plumbing must have lowered their rates. When I needed a $1.00 toilet tank gasket replaced, their repair guy had to fly to Home Depot, and then got the wrong thing and spent a half day replacing the gasket. It only cost me $250.00, but It saved me from providing room and board to him overnight.

The Baethke representative was very professional and knowledgeable. I appreciate the extra steps they take to make sure everything is thought of and secure. Other plumbers said there was no way to put a shower in our bathroom but they found a way and it works beautifully.
This is my 2nd Time partnering w/JB&S. Once again, they exceeded my expectations. I had a pipe burst and they had it fixed w/in a few hours.
I’ve used JB&S for 2 sump pump replacements & a water heater replacement over the past year. They’re professional, communicative, on time, and provide quality work.
I’d recommend JB&S to anyone.

This company is absolutely horrible. Around 11 PM on Friday, I noticed that my bathroom sink was heavily leaking water into the wood cabinet below it. I looked for a 24 hour plumber with good reviews and came across this company.
The reviews are wrong.
Upon calling the first time, I was told that due to policy, the company will only speak to the owners of my rental. I contacted my landlord who kindly reached out to the company.
Since it was late at night, an answering service was managing the calls. The answering service told my landlord that they were treating my leak as an emergency, and would dispatch someone immediately. They also told my landlord that the plumber would call me directly.
I waited a half-hour before calling the answering service again myself and asking for a report. I hadn't heard from the plumber and nobody had arrived. The service said they would reach back out to the person dispatched and have them call me with an ETA immediately.
After waiting another 15 minutes I called again, informing them that I never received a called about the ETA. They said, somewhat frustrated, that it's only been 15 minutes and I should wait longer. They also said that, since they are only an answering service, there is nothing else they could do to help me.
I fell asleep around 12:30 and woke up 1:30, still with no ETA and no plumber. My sink was still leaking profusely and I had soaked two towels (multiple leaks made the water difficult to catch in buckets).
I called the company again and a different woman from the answering service picked up. I told her it had been hours and I hadn't been contacted or visited by the plumber. She gave me the same old message: she will contact dispatch and ask them to call me about the ETA, but there was nothing else she could do and she had no other information.
I went to sleep. Woke up at 6 AM. A plumber never arrived and I did not have any missed calls from the company or an associated plumber...and my sink was still heavily leaking.
I called a different company and they arrived immediately.
This is how this company treats emergencies. Don't use them. They are awful.

GREAT experience on several occasions. In a situation where my landlord picked a plumber for me, I asked THAT plumber (different company) if he knew of John Baethke, and he said, Oh yes! That's where we send people when we can't figure out a problem. They're awesome.
I called to get an estimate to replace a kitchen sink. They require an onsite visit for $89 to give an estimate. I have all information and was willing to send pictures, but they want to waste my time and their technicians' and make $89 for doing nothing. Nice business model!!!

Great customer service, fast and honest assessment and resolution of problem. Highly recommend.
One particularly thoughtful touch: John will call 45 mins ahead of arrival, and will send name and picture of serviceman. Nice safety-oriented approach.
Dispatched plumber to thaw water pipes. Quoted approx $90 (over the phone) for site visit and told technician will review the situation when he arrives and provide a price for whatever service may be needed. Probably should have asked for a range on the cost ahead of time, but the price was over $800 (plus the site visit) to hook up and run current from the pipes inside my house to the city shutoff (B-box). That didn't alleviate the issue and the plumber stated that it must be frozen on the city side of the shutoff. Now I've found out from the city water dept that a union is required on the water pipes just past the main water shut off inside my house or they will not hook up their unit from the hydrant to the B-box to thaw out those pipes. I would have expected a reputable plumbing company that works in Chicago to know this and when they determined the problem was on the city side to install this union at that time.

I called John Baethke because I had water coming out of my wall and needed prompt attention. I had previously used his company for routine water heater maintenance, and their work was good, so I figured I'd try him again. I called in the evening, and I was told that he would have someone out to my house the next afternoon. At 5pm the next day, I called and asked when I might expect someone to arrive, and I was told that I was not on their service list. I asked to speak with John directly, as I had made the appointment with him, and he called me back five minutes later. I described our previous conversation in detail and told him politely that I expected him to honor his commitment. He told me that he had no memory of the call, that he probably spoke with 100 people yesterday, and the best he could do was get someone out to me 24 hours later (i.e., 48 hours after my original request and 24 hours after his commitment to me). I told him that was not acceptable and that I shouldn't have to go to the back of the line. He then basically told me that I was out of luck.
At that point, I told him I thought that was unacceptable and I was thinking about what I would put in a Yelp review. As soon as I brought up Yelp, he started grew hostile and started yelling at me. I never raised my voice with him, despite being very unhappy that he was blowing me off, but the mere mention of the word Yelp set him off. He finished yelling and then hung up on me. He was terribly unprofessional.
Bottom line -- he failed to show up and cost me precious time that I wish I had spent finding another plumber. Moreover, he was not the least bit apologetic. People make mistakes, and it's pretty clear he just forgot to write this down. But the fact that he made no effort to apologize or otherwise fix the mistake other than put me in the back of the line was terribly disappointing. Anyone who cares about customer service would have at least managed to show some sort of regret.
I am giving 1 star only because zero stars is not an option.
GREAT...What a nice company to work with. Cormac made me feel so at ease and was a pleasure to meet. No pressure to do minor repairs and told me of things that need to be done before we move. Your yearly service contract is worth every penny. I give your company ***** five stars.

Our plumber Cormac was one of the friendliest and most helpful people we have come across when dealing with home repairs. We had a leak in our basement near the main shut off valve but unfortunately in order to do any work on it Cormac would need to shut the main water line off via the buffalo box. This proved to be harder than it normally would be due to a tree growing over the buffalo box. Cormac helped us call the city and walked us through exactly what would need to happen. Well of course this process dragged on and on thanks to the City of Chicago taking their sweet time. Cormac would email us every other day to get the progress on the tree removal, he never forgot about us. Unfortunately while waiting for this tree to get removed we had another problem arise in our basement due to a clogged sewer line, we had water soaking thru our carpet. We called Cormac right away and he was able to come by the next day. He inspected the problem and gave us multiple solutions. In the end he needed to rod the sewer line (tree roots of course), he walked us through the entire process, never once leaving us in the dark. The next day he even emailed us to make sure our basement was dry and had no new water. Finally the city cut down the tree and repaired the buffalo box, Cormac was at our house the next day making repairs to the water line. He was at our house less than 2 hours. Dealing with home repairs is always frustrating but Cormac was the absolute best. He is a very trustworthy person, he put himself in our shoes. I can not thank him enough.
Tom was very professional. He answered every question I had and educated me in the process of what the plan was to repair our plumbing issue. We called in the morning and he was out at our home within a few hours.

Josh was exceptionally professional and helpful in helping a relatively urgent plumbing issue where my hot water in the shower was stuck on. I was unable to reach my landlord and Josh was able to come out quickly, diagnose the issue and correct it.
If you have money to flush down the drain....
What do you make an hour? If it's over $300.00 these are your guys. Fool me once it's one thing, fool me twice and it's on me. Well this is on me. $575.00 for an hour and a half. You heard right. An hour and a half of simply rodding out a kitchen sink drainpipe. Take a moment and think how much money that is. No really special tools were required, expertise and knowledge, yes, and what you would expect from a licensed plumbing service. A Boeing 747 pilot doesn't make that much money per hour. Ask me how I know that. I appreciate the reasonable appointment time and the personality and professionalism of the service man but who wouldn't be happy and personable when they are making THAT MUCH MONEY. This was my holiday extra money to spend on dining out and some presents. Gone gone gone, flushed down the drain, just like my common sense that I should have invoked when told how much it was going to cost. They don't lie to you, they tell you to your face that they are going to charge an exorbitant amount for their services and since you have already paid $89.50 for them to appear in your home, you just go along. BTW, the $575.00 was the cheapest option for fixing my drain..others went to double that amount, also for no real special tools and or equipment needed.
Hope your pockets are lined with gold if you call them...because they won't be when they are done with you.

Yuriy was attentive to what we needed, provided a ton of options in different price ranges (w/information on why things cost more/less) and performed the task asked professionally. We found our plumber in Oak Park!
Dan Lowery, at John Baethke, was excellent. Got right to work and solved the problem, but was also patient and informative in answering my questions and giving me practical advice. Looking forward to continued working relationship.
Love this place. The plumber was professional, knowledgeable, and did quick work! I love how the company sends a photo of who they are sending for your job. Very high tech and safe! I highly recommend.
very happy with the plumbers that came out to service my condo basement that had flooded. They were very professional, clean and upfront about price and future maintenance. Definitely recommend!
Vanessa was awesome. Was very honest and open about the problem. Will definitely be using them again for future work.
Ron from Baethke plumber is top notch. Highly knowledgeable, professionalv and courteous. I highly recommend Baethke plumbing
Cristian was professional and fast. He informed me of issues and things to keep an eye on while providing great service!
We did not end up using them because they wanted us to pay for an estimate up front which was unacceptable.

Responded quickly, came out same day. Professional and friendly. My sink clog fixed. Cleaned up after. I would recommend..
Had a blockage they came out a little over with the pricing but well worth your money and they had options. They deal with city management also which is even better than you trying to get a hold of them.

Cormac was excellent. Explained everything from options to cost. Highly recommended and will use Baethke & Son again, for sure.
Dead of chicago winter Bathke and Sons charged me $500 for a new ignitor that retails for $20. When I complained, they told me were you going to have your kids freeze and pipes burst. Shameful.
Steve was very nice and professional and provided me with an estimate for a repair after maintaining my water heater. Thank you for your excellent service!
Timely response, very professional, thorough, expert work. He provided me with all the options and described in detail the work he did. I highly recommend him.

Great experience overall. You might find a lower quote, but you won't find a better result. Call 'em.
Dan is a great guy and came out immediately to fix the problem. Really professional and pleasant and eager to help.
I was quoted 3k to replace a water heater that I got replaced for 1.2k. Do yourself a favor, read reviews on yelp and get a second quote.

Extremely prompt, friendly answered all my questions. Highly recommend John G.
Left the problem worse than when they came to the house.
Called for service and was told they don't service my area - which is 1 mile from their office... I live off Belmont in the same zip code as the office.
There cost is on the higher end, but so is their professionalism.
Very professional, kind and they really cared about doing things right.

Filter replacement
Ron arrived at the scheduled time, quickly diagnosed my issues, provided several solutions, and completed the work. The overall experience was excellent.
*Edit. After 16 months, a major and expensive pump selected and installed by Baethke failed completely. They did not seem to offer any type of price break on fixing it or even diagnosing the issue. They offered to do the work, for a price I thought was insane considering how quickly the work they already did had needed another fixing. This was on TOP of a broken gasket my husband had to replace in the shower they'd 'fixed' a few months before. I've learned my lesson - a more expensive price is no guarantee of better or longer-lasting work. The plumber we now use (First Chicago) gives us a 3-year gurantee on parts & labor and FAR lower prices. Felt sick over this one.
We like to do our own home improvement, so I was apprehensive about hiring a contractor. But my husband and I faced problems that were outside of our abilities, so we reached out to several professional plumbers. Christian the plumber sent by John Baethke & Son Plumbing, was excellent. He was courteous, knowledgable, efficient..
This was a multi-faceted job, including drain cleaning, toilet replacement, shower repair, and sink upgrades, and the different parts were all done so well that I have already hired them for another large upgrade on my old plumbing system. This was in stark contrast to other plumbers that didn't even reply, or were difficult to deal with. I would recommend John Baethke & Son Plumbing to anyone looking for quality work.
I'd also like to thank the company for getting vaccinated! That issue was addressed immediately, and without my even having to ask about it, which I really appreciated. They obviously prioritize the safety of their clients, and I'm grateful for that.

Knowledgeable, personable, and give you options up front so you know what you’re getting into. My favorite touch is the Baethke welcome mat they lay outside your door while they come and go. Highly recommend.
The Baethke team is always professional and outlines options for consideration. If you have a need for recurring services, I recommend signing a service agreement which helps on the cost and includes a yearly inspection.
