I'm not one to leave bad reviews - truly, I tend to reserve the review space for glowing admiration and complete satisfaction. However, in this instance, I feel it is important to warn people so they do not end up having the same experience I did.The company, in my experience, was responsive. They email you a confirmation of your appointment, text you and email you a photo of the technician who will be showing up to your house, and even give you a call to let you know they are on the way. Our technician was very pleasant and arrived on a snow day where we were experiencing roughly 10 inches, so I was very happy with that level of service. However, after about 15 minutes of trying to snake our kitchen line, he told me that the pipe was broken, and would need to be replaced. We went downstairs and he told us that the basement floor would need to be jack hammered up, and any length of pipe, from 8 feet to 50 feet, would need to be replaced. The quote he gave us was unbelievable. For an 8 foot pipe replacement, it would cost us $6,150. Every foot after that would be an additional $410. If we needed to replace 50 feet of pipe the cost would be $23,370! But, not to worry, they offer a payment plan, with a 9.99% interest rate - effectively giving us another mortgage payment. I was repulsed by this quote - knowing that this company was trying to capitalize on my desperation - not being able to use the kitchen sink, dishwasher, or washing machine. The technician told us we could get this scheduled ASAP for that Friday, and in the mean time, charged us $289 for doing literally NOTHING to help us, and not fixing any issue, even though the trip charge was initially stated to be in the mid $40-60 range. After he left, we got in touch with another plumber (Discount Rooter) who was extremely knowledgeable on the issue and told us that a lot of houses built in the 1970's have cast iron pipes that rot out, leaving a black sludge, creating the need for immediate replacement - which is exactly what happened to ours. He quoted us $2,880 for a 20 foot pipe replacement and assured us that once this work was done, we would be good to go for life as the plastic pipe they replace the cast iron with can last for many years. He also informed us that there is a five year warranty on all work completed, which left us feeling very taken care of. We got in touch with the office and scheduled a crew to come out the following Tuesday, and they handled everything! They ended up replacing 27 feet of pipe and still kept the initial quoted price of $2,880, even though they obviously could have increased it. Discount Rooter may not text you a photo of your technicians before they arrive, but they are honest, hard workers, who aren't out to rob families. Had we gone with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, we would have paid $13,940! ELEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS MORE than what we ended up paying. There is literally no excuse for this type of upcharge - and I will never, ever recommend this company to anyone.
