I am a service tech at a large heating and cooling shop here in anchorage. I am currently working on quotes to completely redo the piping and wiring of one of their new installs at a good friends house. Unfortunately my friend didn’t know what I do for a living or else she would have had us do it correctly for her. This lady is my wife’s co teacher. They teach special ed together for the anchorage school district. She is a military wife and widow after her husband died just a few years ago. This company charged her nearly $10,000 for one of the worst install jobs I have ever seen. They didn’t pull a permit or have it inspected which is required by law. When confronted, the owner initially told her that it was permitted but ultimately admitted it wasn’t because “it wasn’t required”. They wired the existing zone valves to the new boiler but didn’t factor in that the boiler transformer wouldn’t be enough power. It is causing the transformer to constantly fail. They came over and disconnected the zone valve to the garage heater as their solution which left the garage without heat, instead of simply adding a second transformer under warrenty since they failed to properly size the system. They said it’s not warrent because “the don’t do electrical”, even though mechanical codes allow for mechanical contractors to work on all electrical associated with mechanical systems. They are also telling her that she needs to contact another company and pay for the repairs because they no longer do residential. Again this install was done just this past summer.
