Would have given 5 stars but he ran an hour late with notice.

I bought two dimmers to be attached to my existing light switches. I called Bates Electric to do this job, and was told they charge $125 as a fee just to come out to my house. They also advertise a 10% discount off that fee on their website, which I said I would like to have. They told me that after that fee, the charge is by the hour.

The first time they were supposed to come to my house they cancelled saying the technician was not available. They arrived a day later and the technician installed my dimmers, which consisted of unscrewing the plates, screwing in the switches I had bought with the dimmers, and screwing the plate back in. The tech was in my house for for literally fifteen minutes, from noon to 12:15 pm.

I was charged the full $125, without the 10% discount for the initial trip. I was also charged an additional hour of labor at $125, for literally fifteen minutes of work.

So the hourly labor rate I was paying was essentially $500/hour.

I called them and was put on hold and they never came back on the line. When I called again, they told me the person that issued the $12.50 discount was not in that day and I would have to wait. They also stated that the $125 hour labor rate is in place no matter how little time you use. They will not credit me for the blatant overcharge.

I would never recommend this company to anyone.

So I paid $250 dollars for fifteen minutes of work, using my own electrical supplies. Would never use this company again. Beware of what they tell you. And realize they will evade any restitution for overcharging.

They charged me double what they quoted me. When I called to understand why, the lady reviewed their pricing and assured me that’s what I was previously told and said she could pull the recorded call to prove it. After a week of not hearing back from them, I reached back out and had to explain my situation over again. This happened for about 5 consecutive weeks before I got sick of getting the run around. Manipulative pricing structure and terrible customer service. I recommend you shop elsewhere.

I needed an electric car charger installed in my garage. Bates did all the work, didn’t damage anything, and the car charger actually looks pretty decent.

I had a pretty poor experience with Bates Electric. I requested an electrician out to my place and without my knowledge was scheduled for an emergency appointment (that started at 3PM?). I was not informed this was an emergency visit. While Bates says they are a Google Nest preferred vendor, the technician was not able to help at all. I ended up talking with the google nest help desk while the tech waited around for about 2 hours. After two hours he decided to check the power source (even though that was clearly stated on the nest it was the error all along) and was able to determine he couldn't help. I ended up calling another service that was able to find a solution in under 10 minutes. I reached out to let Bates know this and they took an additional eight days longer than stated to get back to me. As a young new homeowner I feel misled and that the situation was not handled up to expectation. I will not be using Bates in the future.

I wanted to get an overhead light installed in a room, as I had just moved in and was missing it. I called to book an appointment but it took over two weeks before they actually showed up. I canceled that service with them and was given Bates Electric's information. Within the next 48 hours, I had a helpful technician come in and take a look at the job and recommended the best way to get it done, which was more affordable than what I was expecting. We signed a contract that day and he left to get all of the supplies he needed. Once everything was gathered, they came back on time and got straight to work, refusing to leave until they were complete and every detail that we'd discussed had been completed exactly how we'd wanted it to. At the end, we were sent a bill for their services which I paid online through their website using PayPal immediately after receiving it.

Our backyard is pretty dull without any light and not really safe in our opinion. We had Bates install some lights both motion detector and ones that we can turn on with a switch to spruce up our backyard. Great service and they did a good job with the wiring and all that.

I meant to do this review sooner, but better later than never. I’ve had such bad experiences in the past with trade workers; this experience was opposite of those experiences. Austin D. from Bates came to my property, took his time to diagnose my electrical issue, explained the problem to my level of understanding, and executed the fix. It was ridiculously affordable. I can’t say enough good things about Bates Electrical and Austin. If you get him as your service provider just know you are in the best of hands.

Bates had Ryan come out to help repair a parking lot lighting circuit. Ryan was extremely professional & helpful, & got us fixed up quickly. Can't brag on him enough, he was awesome. Great company!

Chris in Tennessee fixed our problem today in an old 1980s trailer. He was friendly and personable and clearly knew what he was doing. He is much appreciated.

They are the best electricians in town. I have used them a few times over the past few years. Mostly for smallish stuff like broken switches and bum power sockets. They always have done a nice job, keep my house clean when doing their work, and charge a reasonable price.

We had Bates Electric come out to swap out a chandelier and several other can lights with LEDs on an 18ft ceiling. Another big name electric company in Nashville quoted us over $1k for the job, but Bates came in under 1/3 of that. Chris did an awesome job and was incredibly helpful! He wrapped it all up in about an hour when the other company said it would take 4. I’d highly recommend this company & Chris for any electrical work!

Bates has been my go to electrician for a few years now. They can always fix any little electrical I have at my properties or business.

I needed my old landscape lights replaced so I called Bates Electric. They sent Ryan out and he showed up in a timely manner and quickly went to work on replacing my lights. He was very polite and attentive. My lights work great! I would call Bates Electric again based on Ryan's performance and connection.

My dad’s house had a power surge after a lightning strike and everything has been acting weird since. Bates Electric got the problem fixed for us, though.

I had a poor experience with Bates electrical. Had a tech come out to look at rewiring a Fiber cable through the attic. There is a $125 charge for them to come out. He looked at it and said it would not be easy and that he recommended I did NOT do it as it would be too difficult. He was there 15 minutes and I got charged $250 for the 15 minutes he was there. I guess they charged an extra hour (rounded up) of labor on top of the trip charge. I felt very taken advantage of. Even the tech said if it were his decision he wouldn't charge for such a short visit. I understand the initial $125 charge because I agreed to it, but the additional $125 just felt greedy.

I had them come out to give me an estimate for a project. The electrician talked to me about the project, measured, had me pay for the estimate, and said someone would call with the pricing in a few days. I didn't hear from the company so I called them. The person on the phone said they didn't get the paperwork from the electrician so they couldn't give me an estimate. (Family emergency, I don't fault them for that.) I had a copy of the paperwork and offered to read the measurements but was told the paper I had was useless and he couldn't give me an estimate based on it. I called a few more times after this and left messages to see if they ever got the paperwork they needed from the electrician but didn't hear back.
I ended up filing a claim with my credit card to dispute the charge since I paid for a service that I never received. In the middle of this dispute, they sent a bill marked overdue to my mother (who owns the house I live in). The credit card company ruled in favor of Bates Electric because I signed a receipt agreeing to the charge. I only agreed to the charge because they were supposed to call me with the estimate. I still haven't received an estimate, this project started in May. They were more responsive to Chase during the dispute than they were to me when I was trying to get what I paid for.
I paid $180 for an estimate I never received.

Excellent experience. Went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of and made sure that I was satisfied. Showed a genuine care for providing quality service.

The electrician was patient and professional, which is not an easy combination to come across these days.
