I've talked to a few companies about repairing a couple of misbehaving power outlets at my rental property. Most other companies work on an hourly rate, somewhere between $125 and $140 at the time. Colvin told me they charge a trip fee of $50, which is then credited back if I use them to do the work. When their electrician arrived he'd sent me an estimate of $325 even before he diagnosed the issue. This was their standard fee for this type of issue, he said.I asked another vendor to repair it and paid them an hour worth of fee as expected. Bottom line: use Colvin if you don't mind overpaying. Otherwise, hire someone else.
