After another company gave me what can only be called a ridiculous estimate, the Spartan man, Edgar, came and made the repair in less than an hour for the cost of the basic house call. Thank you, Spartan.

David and Marion were on time, friendly, and professional. They did the work with a minimum of disruption, on time and on budget. And they cleaned up before they left. What more could you ask for?

Joaquin was my tech, he was great. Very professional and helpful.

Visit 1: Plumber promised between 12 PM and 4 PM. Called to confirm; all set. No one by 3:30 pm; called to confirm, all set. No one by 4:30 pm; called to confirm, told plumber was on his way. No one by 5:30 pm. Left three messages with the answering service and have yet to get a call back (now 6:45). This is disappointing.

Many visits thereafter: excellent, prompt service.

Joaquin called me back right away on a Sunday morning and came out to our house within an hour on a 95 degree day. Fixed up our Carrier system to work short-term, and gave me an honest rec that we should go with a Carrier specialist for a full replace. Definite recommend!

I do not recommend because they failed to show up for the service appointment and lacked the decency to make a simple phone call.

We needed urgent help due to our furnace leaking water all over our floor. I set up appointment with Spartan because they assured me they could service it same-day. I canceled my plans and waited all day for them. No one showed up. I called three times. Each time they promised a technician would call me back shortly. No one ever bothered to call or show up.

The delayed/missed appointment is forgivable. The discourtesy is not. How hard is it to make a 30 second phone call to tell us the truth and cancel the appointment? This business left my family in the lurch and wasted my time. I do not recommend.

Had a leaking hot water heater on a Saturday afternoon, they were quick to respond, courteous and very professional. The repair was made as quick as their response time. I'll surely recommend them in the future.

The service from Joaquin was excellent and the problem with my A/C was quickly resolved.

I have used them 3 times for toilet, heating and garbage disposal. They are responsive and come quickly and worked fast to complete the job. Did not overcharge. Checked other issues for me at no cost. Made sure I was happy. Also as a single woman I had 3 different men come by and they were always so respectful and never made me feel uncomfortable. I will use them again and my coworker who is a grandmother uses them too and loves them as well.

They were not able to fulfill a simple appointment. Two no-shows and on the second time the plumber claimed there was a miscommunication when he was the person that canceled the first appointment and made the second. We wasted nearly 4 weeks waiting and all for nothing. Good luck, maybe you will get better treatment than us.

We have been a customer of Spartan since 1987 and have always been satisfied with their work. Today, was no different! Anil Das was extremely efficient and knew the issue immediately. He was patient and took time to explain what was happening with our water pressure. There is no other company I would recommend to do my air conditioning, plumbing and heating. Great service! Kudos to Anil!

Quick and professional

Consider me a completely satisfied Spartan customer in every respect... After living in my 4 story townhouse for fourteen years, I needed to replace 1 of the air conditioning systems on the roof. The team that arrived came on time, And not only were they diligent, but they took the time to respect the cleanliness of my home as well. I am very impressed by the courtesy shown to me by everyone associated with Spartan.

All I needed was a new anode rod for my water heater. Technician arrived an hour late and didn't want to do it and suggested I buy a new water heater. What a total waste of time and money.

Joaquin was excellent. Showed up within the hour on the hottest day off the year!

Overall very unsatisfied with my experience using Spartan and will not be using them again.

Cons:
- Kenneth is extremely rude; rushing to get the job done, then proceeds to leave me with his other technician. Upon inspection after their work was completed, my toilet began making a strange noise that was not there beforehand. When I call Kenneth to ask why this is happening, he proceeds to berate me over the phone telling me it's not his problem and if he was to come back up he'd charge me $205 for it. Absolutely unacceptable to yell at a customer for asking simple questions, not professional at all. Not to mention they left my toilet a mess and didn't even bother to put the tank lid back on.

- Costs are exorbitant - $89 service call fee, $300+ fee to replace supply valve and tank gaskets; over $400 for 40 minutes of actual work; the parts themselves cost ~$15

- For some reason it took nearly an hour for the technicians to go to the store and buy the parts

Plumber named Trent made my day by fixing part of my toilet tank. Strong rec for anyone looking for attentive service.

A service call of $89 then they replaced a $10 part with 15 to 20 minutes of labor. The plumber Kenneth charges my 91yr old mother a grand total of $400. This plumbing company gives plumbing contractors a bad name. I would never use them again or recommend them to anyone as I consider them to be very dishonest.

There are plenty of great plumbers in DC. Spartan is not one of them. I called for a simple toilet supply valve change. The service call is $89 and then any parts and labor. Ok, great! Kenneth arrives and proceeds to say it will be $248 to replace the supply vale. $248 to cut the old sweat copper connection and apply a compression valve replacement. This is an $8 part at any hardware store and I get it, small businesses need to add some markup. The whole replacement would take no more than 30-40 minutes. But $248 plus the $89 service call; $337 to replace an $8 supply valve?? I questioned him on the work to be done and the price and he said, I go by the book. I am just the technician. I agreed to the price but called the office and spoke to the office manager. She was very nice and told me she needed to call Kenneth so we were all on the same page about the pricing. She called back 15 min later and told me that she had spoken with Kenneth and that he told her he had to make a special trip to buy more parts and that the parts were a lot of money. But she offered round the bill down to $300 for the inconvenience. Kenneth's car never left the parking space and he went outside to his truck to get a part and that was it. The whole job took no more than 40 mins from turning off the water, draining the lines and replacing the supply valve and turning the water back on... and talking to the office manager. Someone at Spartan is lying and their pricing is ridiculous. Steer clear and find another plumbing service in DC. Picture of the old leaking valve, the valve removed and the replacement part of included in this review. He didn't even replace the escutcheon (covers the pipe and hole in wall). Poor job all the way around.

Joaquin and Juwan come out to help us twice after finding that our AC had frozen. They were friendly and informative and walked me through the issues it could be. Spartan also replied fast and got folks to us early in the morning, which was really helpful.

I have a man in hospice here at hom3e and had a water leak in my bathtub. fixtures. Scott was out and fix3d me so I would have hot water until the internal parts of the fixture are replaced. He mentioned coming back to do the work which I initially said I would get the parts but now wish I had told him to go ahead and get the parts to do it.
I have hot water to be able to care for a sick man now.

First off, the techs were excellent (Marion and Chris). Prompt, knowledgeable, and efficient. If this was just about the techs it would be 5/5 no doubt.

My frustration comes from the administrative/pricing side. I was charged $585 for approximately 45 minutes of work which included no parts and the time it took to write up the invoice.

There was an:
Dispatch fee - $89 (ultimately waived)
Two bathtubs that needed to be unclogged - $195 per bathtub ($390 total)
Garbage disposal fix/reset (not actually broken I just didn’t know how to reset the disposal) - I forgot to ask what this would cost and if it was mentioned I missed it because the repair was so fast
Labor - I was quoted over the phone $195/hour (it would appear that the dispatch itself does not include any time onsite)

While the dispatch fee was waived, the fact that it was nearly $600 for less than an hour’s work was extremely disappointing. I don’t blame the techs, but the lack of price transparency and that labor appeared to be billed separately from the repairs, when they were entirely composed of labor, seemed more than a bit excessive.

I recently purchased a new dishwasher and the store advised me to have a plumber install it due to the placement of the appliance in the kitchen of my old farmhouse. Duwayne, from Spartan, came out on time and did a fantastic job with the installation. He was very knowledgeable, courteous, and careful with his work. He also gave me additional advice about using a surge protector as the dishwasher was not hard wired to my electrical system. Overall, it was a good experience and I would recommend Spartan, and Duwayne, to anyone with any kind of problematic issue. Spartan gets my vote again this year for Best of D.C. 5 stars!

Terrible Service. Spartan's work was shoddy and incomplete. Two weeks after Spartan repaired a broken pipe, the pipe started leaking again. I called Spartana and made an appointment and they never showed up. I would never ever use Spartan again and I do not recommend Spartan. Ed N Washington, DC

Spartan plumbing exploited my elderly mother and severely overcharged her for unstopping her toilet, which took less than an hour. They charged her well over $300.00 and then refused to giver her an itemized bill explaining the charges. SHAME ON YOU! HOPE YOU DON'T HAVE PARENTS!

A Spartan service truck tailgated me in the HOV lane this morning during rush hour. Tailgating is obnoxious and dangerous all of the time. It is particularly outrageous when the truck has only one occupant, the driver. I attempted to contact the company to report this problem and they did not respond. This is the telltale sign of a dysfunctional company. If their technicians don't behave in a civilized manner on the road, I sure as hell would not trust them in my house.

The nice receptionist told me that they charge $750 per hour for snaking (with camera)! For two hour job it will be $1,500!!! Who can/would pay so much?!!!

I had an estimate scheduled for 2:30 pm for plumbing work. After waiting 3 hours, I called and was told they won't make it. So I waited for nothing and then was stuck in rush hour traffic because of it. I have another estimate for HVAC work scheduled for this Wednesday. Let's see what happens.

My elderly mother who is very ill and not ambulatory due to chronic health issues had problems with her AC unit since Sunday. I have contacted a previous company that she used in the past who shall be nameless was overbooked until end of next week which surprised me. She could not afford to wait until next week because of her health issues. Bonnie and Joaquin were very professional and friendly. They diagnosed and fixed the problem right after the 4th of July holiday. Within an hour or two after the service was completed, our home is very comfortable again . We can both get a good night's sleep and I am able to work in my home office in comfort. Well the competitor that we use to call in a past for repairs has lost a loyal customer. I have always had good experiences with Spartan. Their technician, Lonell, is very prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. I was given an honest and accurate assessment of my problem. He was also easy to reach and available to answer all my questions even after the work was completed. I would use Spartan again, and I highly recommend them.

Very quick response time and excellent service. Joaquin and Juwan were terrific. They quickly got to the source of the problem, replaced the capacitor, and we were back in business with cool air. Highly recommend.

On this very hot morning Joaquin and his new trainee David came to my home bright and early in response to my call regarding a non-responsive thermostat for my upstairs air conditioner. Joaquin fixed the problem immediately and together they ran a thorough check on that unit as well as the downstairs ac--and the water heater for good measure. I was not surprised since Joaquin has been taking care of my cooling and heating systems for years. He is the best of the best! But I was also impressed by David, the young man Joaquin is now training. David seems attentive, keen to learn, and capable. Like Joaquin, he is courteous and helpful. He seems to be a very good student, and he has a fine teacher. I look forward to seeing David as well as Joaquin in the seasons to come.

I am thankful to Spartan for excellent on time service to SE Washington DC. I found out the hard way that many of the advertised big name companies in the area do not service DC ! Matt and Gary showed up within hours of my call and were done within an hour ! My AC works great now. Thanks guys for excellent service. I won't call anyone else.

Joaquin and Juwan came first thing in the morning after I called about the HVAC not working. They quickly diagnosed the problem as a clogged drain line and fixed it. They also made sure the unit was in good working condition and checked refrigerant levels. They were professional and worked very quickly. Joaquin also told me how to prevent clogged drain lines in the future, which was very helpful. Definitely recommend!

I was extremely pleased with the initial communication, scheduling, and corporate team that I worked with to set up a service call for my toilet. They contacted me within the hour and got out to my tenants the day of my request. I CAN recommend them for the quick service if you need it.

However, when it came time to diagnose the problem at my property, I was extremely displeased with the pricing for the work. They noted that I needed a fill valve and a toilet handle that needed to be replaced. Working in the property management world, I had an idea of the cost of the material and a general idea of the labor cost associated with this fix.

The fill valves MSRP for around $8-$15 and the handle is roughly the same price as well. This does not include labor and markup.

I was quoted $780 + the $99 dispatch for this fix. I simply could not in good conscious accept that price for the scope of work. I have since contacted another plumber who performed the work for about 20% of this price. I understand a world of inflation and cost increases for both material and labor, but I felt that this was a disingenuous pricing for the work needed.

With this being said, I'd still look at giving Spartan a bid, but understand what you are getting before pulling the trigger.

I live in a condo where several owners get Spartan services bi-annually. Spartan always comes on the days they say they will; it's very easy service. I didn't give them a 3 because the invoices I receive are a little unclear. I've signed up for an annual account, but it's sometimes not clear where I am in my payment cycle. Anyway, it's a paperwork issue (and potentially a user error issue), not a technical service issue.

A technician was dispatched within an hour of my call. Jorge was an absolute professional and clearly skilled and knowledgeable. Jorge was also frank, thorough and easy to work with. He explained all our options so we could make sound decisions regarding the needed plumbing evaluation and repair. Spartan will be completing the job this week.

Zack was a real expert and a professional to work with, taking the time to explain the hvac as well as fix it.

Let's start with the fact that it took their plumber 30 minutes just to figure out how to take the shower knob off of the valve. After all of that, they couldn't even fix the problem. And that was the second person they sent because their first person said he wasn't even qualified to work on the shower. On top of that, they had the gall to call me two weeks later to ask for the check number for the check I gave to their technician because their technician forgot to give it to them. Will never use again.

Joaquin and Matthew came to my house on the hottest day of the year 115 heat index). These gentleman uninstalled my old ac unit and put a brand new one in in only a couple of hours. They explained everything to me and told me about the new system. These guys are friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Highly recommend and thank you again guys

Our Spartan plumber Anil Das was
wonderful. Another company told us our sump pump was corroded and needed to be replaced. I called Spartan for a second opinion and because they installed our sump pump 5 years ago. Anil was so nice, honest and professional. He showed us the sump pump
did not need replacement and there was no
corrosion on it, it was just a bit of dirt. The float and everything was in good condition.
We are seniors and we appreciate honesty.
It’s so unfortunate other companies try to
take advantage of customers. We will stick with Spartan and Anil Das will be our go to
plumber. Thank you Spartan for a great
plumber and great honest service.

I worked with Duane on an emergency plumbing repair in my kitchen. He arrived quickly (thanks Spartan!), fixed everything thoroughly and explained exactly what he was doing. He was honest and experienced in his advice on future work for our plumbing in the kitchen. As a real estate agent, I see LOTS of professionals -- he stood out far and above the rest. Don't hesitate, ask for Duane. He was so good I called their office just to remember his name from work done in January. I'm asking all my clients to use Spartan as well. I'm sold!

I have utilized Spartan several times. This visit was the faucet replacement in the laundry room. Trent did a great job and checked the
faucet in the tub. He tightened the packing in the tub hot water faucet. He was very professional and the price was reasonable. I will certainly call
them for my next plumbing project.

I should have been suspicious when they wouldn't give pricing over the phone but I had nobody else ready to snake a clogged kitchen drain that was also affecting a bathroom one. Their scam is a $99 visit fee which is only waived if you go over $500 so they priced it at $495. Later I learned that $250 or less would be more appropriate. Bottom line, almost $600 for what I now know on average is less than $200. Avoid and find someone more honest. Their Senior Citizen Discount is also a joke.

These guys are great. Not cheap but they are good. And I love the fact that a woman owns and runs the company.

I scheduled an appointment for replacement of my water heater. I told the person answering the phone that my water heater was damaged and that the Manufacture had authorized a replacement to picked up from Home Depot. An appointment was made for a window between 8:00 a. m. and 12:00 p.m. The technician arrived at 1:30 p.m. took less than 10 minutes to tell me that Spartan Plumbing does not install customer supplied water heaters (my water heater is a gas w/h); and charged me $89.00 for the service call.
I feel ripped off. Did Spartan only make the appointment to get the Dispatch Fee?
Clearly, the person making the appointment could have simply told me that we do not install customer supplied water heaters.

I wasted a work day for nothing. Very, very disappointed in their customer service

Very unprofessional. My grandmother paid $500 for a service that wasn’t even complete. Then you had the nerve to ask for more money. WILL NEVER CALL YOU GUYS EVER AGAIN!!!!!

Spartan Plumbing came to the rescue right when we needed it. The Spartan team, Joaquin and Juwan, were punctual and extremely professional. While fixing our A/C issue, both members of the team explained every detail and made sure I was kept in the loop. I even learned a few things myself - thanks to Joaquin and Juwan! Company is a scam and unreliable. They did not show up on two consecutive appointments and when they did show up, they told me they don't work on appliances and left within 15 minutes and charged me over $200. When I called to speak to the manger, they didn't have the work order of work completed. I hired another plumber of resolved the issue.

Was supposed to get help from Tim on a grease trap but the guy didn’t even show up for the appointment and I was never contacted, huge waste of time I recommend ANY other place

Spartan arrived within an hour of my call to check our AC compressor. Their technician, Joaquin, was very friendly and professional and encouraged me to stand by and watch as he inspected the system. He explained everything that he was doing and had us up and running again in five minutes. This is the second time we've used Spartan (once previously for heating system repairs) and both times their service has been incredibly fast and extremely affordable. We will stick with Spartan for all of our HVAC needs and highly recommend them to everyone.

Not good so far took a month for shower to arrive.Was told it would take one day for installation.On day 3 now with no trash removed since day 1 of project. (Now 10/6 sink still in backyard and no call no show for today took off work for nothing…)

They came out and claimed to fix the problem. They did every type of check you could think of and of course they charged me. When I returned to work from the weekend it was hotter than fire in the building. I called the company and the receptionist made it seem as if were my fault. They sent the same technician out who gave me a quote for ten thousand dollars ($10,000). Yes $10,000! Unbelievable.

If I could give them zero stars, I would.
Last Tuesday, June 17, I started having issues with my AC leaking water. I called this company at 4:30pm, wondering if someone could come out and take a look that day, since they advertise 24-hour service on their website, and I mentioned that I would be on a business trip the following day. I was told no problem at all, and that I would be called back as soon as possible by a technician. I heard nothing from no one. I called them back at 7:30pm, asking why I was not called back and if they could still come out - same story as above - I still heard nothing. The next day, at 7am, someone called me and said they could come out that day. Hello??? I told you yesterday I was going to be away for business, and I am still waiting for your two phone calls back from the day before. At that point, they tried blaming it on me, saying basically that since I had called them at 7:30pm (which was the second time I called them, btw) I could not demand that they come out the same day. Nice, for a business that advertises 24 hour service! Anyway, my AC is still leaking water, so I let this go and we agree to set an appointment for today, Saturday, June 21, at noon. Comes today, it's 12:30, and nobody showed up or called me. Once again, I called them back, and apparently, there is no record of me having an appointment scheduled for today. Which is BS.
Once again, nobody bothered to call me. Plus, the lady on the phone today, Tiana (sp) when I called at 12:30 to enquire about ETA of the technician, gave me an attitude. Really???And my AC is still leaking.

This is a completely unreliable company, disorganized, and with awful customer service. DO NOT CALL THEM if you need service because you will be largely disappointed

I called Spartan due to a drain back up. Marvin Sr. and Tam arrived and did a fantastic job clearing my drain! They verified that my plumbing was working before they left. I would definitely use this company again.

Spartan Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning was referred to me by my neighbor. I checked them out on the Better Business Bureau website and discovered they had an A+ rating. I called and was fortunate that a technician was already in my close vicinity. Within the hour Joaquin and Matthew showed up.

They guys went straight to work, and talked me through every step. It was determined that I needed a new capacitor. Joaquin retrieved a new capacitor from the truck, it was installed and we were back in business. So the actual time from my placing the call, to the guys leaving was less than two hours.

I am very pleased with this service, as well as the technicians. The experience was quick and painless. I will recommend Spartan to my neighbors and friends.

Matthew, the service technician, was polite, professional and efficient. He diagnosed the problem (condenser motor capacitor) within minutes, removed the offending item, replaced it and had the system going again, all within half an hour. He was great! I've used Spartan many times over the past 20 years and always been satisfied. Great people, great company!

There's a reason there's so many terrible recent reviews - this company is terrible.

I called to schedule a plumbing appointment for a Saturday two weeks out, and was given a window from 12-5pm. Didn't hear anything from the company on Friday or Saturday morning confirming the appointment or with a more specific time, so called Saturday morning to make sure we were still on.

I was assured that I was scheduled for service, but they wouldn't give me a specific time and said the plumber would be in touch. So I proceeded to spend my entire Saturday afternoon waiting to hear something - anything - from the service.

At the end of my window at 5pm, I called to check if they had any status update. I was told they would pass along my number for someone to call me. Called back again, and this time they said they would mark my request urgent but still couldn't give me an idea even if someone would actually be coming at some point. I'm now sitting here having wasted six hours of my weekend, and have no idea at all if they're coming. There's been no update, no apology, and no help at all.

Don't make the same mistake I did and believe the outdated Washingtonian Best Of reviews. Stay away and don't waste your own time.

Spartan's air conditioning team, Edgar and Juan, came on short notice to our home and rescued my wife and me from Friday's brutal heat. They diagnosed and repaired the problem within a short period of time. In addition, they were professional, reliable and I found them to be very trustworthy.

I will never call Spartan again. Fortunately, they came to give a free estimate for installing a new gas water heater. When they gave an estimate of over $3,000, my jaw dropped. I purchased a new water heater for just over $400, plus about $50 for some other parts I needed, and did the job myself. It only took a couple of hours, even though it was my first time doing it, and the water heater has been working just fine for over 2 years now.

I know some plumbers gouge their customers, but the Spartan estimate for the work was just insane. The tech did not make eye contact with me, and when I laughed at the estimate, he laughed too. He left very quickly.

I don't know what Spartan is trying to pull, but they didn't get it past me.

He was punctual, and informative. I was very pleased with the needed information.

Wouldn't know if they do a good job, their HVAC technician was a no call no show. I set up an appointment with them the day before for the following afternoon. When they hadn't show up by 2:30 I called to confirm. Guy who answered phone seemed uninterested in talking with me, general vibe was 'whatever.' I had someone waiting 6 hours for their guys to show. Never got a call to cancel, reschedule, or say they were running late. Pathetic. There are plenty of other HVAC services out there I would never go with this company again.

Did not show. Made an appointment and then they cancelled without telling me and left me mid way through the day with a non working AC unit. Waited 3 hours already, then they called saying we are coming now. Then they did not show up and cancelled the call without tell me. I'm in a building the requires they give insurance info but I told them I was taking liability for their visit today. Really not handled well. Look elsewhere for HVAC needs.

I scheduled an appointment online, someone call within the hour to confirm the work that i requested and the appointment. The following day the tech called 15 min before the scheduled time, and he arrived on time. He explained his diagnosis of the problem and the remedy. He was very professional. Spartan can count on being called for all my HVAC needs.

We were having a problem with our central forced-air heating system. In minimal time Matthew had evaluated our system and figured out the cause of the problem. Not only were they extremely responsive, their level of professionalism was even more impressive. We give them a top rating all around.

I have used Spartan Plumbing many times over the years and have been happy with their service. Whether it's a plumbing issue, or a heating and air conditioning issue they've come when they said they would and completed the work in a timely fashion without drama.

Gary and Raphael of Spartan replaced our water heater and did a fantastic job! Very professional and knowledgeable. The customer service folks answering the phones have also been great. Gary and Raphael even came back the following day, at no charge, to help fix a small issue that had cropped up. The follow-through to fix the lingering issue is what really sets this crew apart. They had already been paid in full for the water heater job and still came out and made sure everything was in perfect working order. I highly recommend Spartan for your plumbing and HVAC needs.

The one time that they actually did the plumbing repairs I needed the service and experience was great… unfortunately two out of the three times I tried to have service they failed to do anything at all. The first time, they told me they couldn’t do the repairs without building water shut off, without bothering to check and notice that there was a local shut off valve right next to what they needed to work on. I had to hire them to come a second time and actually do the work.
Most recently, I scheduled a 9am appointment and building water shut off… 2 hours past the appointment after hearing nothing I called and was told it would take one more hour. An hour later I called and was told “two more hours, maybe more.” At this point, I missed the scheduled water shut off window and will have to book a new appointment, leaving an active leak in my apartment for 3-4 more days. Delays happen, but hearing absolutely nothing without repeatedly calling and being told new times that were also incorrect only to have to cancel because of it is what ruined the experience.

I have never felt so disrespected and disregarded by an establishment. Spartan is deserving of zero stars if it were possible. I have placed two calls, emergency service calls, to this business for my grandmother’s residence only to receive no feedback. As this is female owned and operated, I eagerly wanted to support. I would not recommend this company. I can gather that my money must not be valid or the quadrant is rather insignificant. Either way, my grandmother is more offended as she was the one that made the second call and handed me the phone to address the lack of response. The representative advised she would file it as a complaint as well as a second request...now I am writing about the experience.

This team is a disaster. On two occasions, they gave me a 4-hour window...12pm-4pm, and the first time, after repeated attempts to contact either dispatch or the driver, the tech showed up at 7:30pm. I had left at 7pm since I didn't hear from him and he had the audacity to tell me I wanted to go ahead and cancel the appt. When they finally came, he told me I had a kind of unit that this company doesn't really work on. I told the dispatcher the type (water assisted heating), and they said this company could help. Spartan is unreliable and unprofessional. Plenty of other heating/plumbing companies out there--try your luck with someone else.

I call Spartan Plumbing for all my plumbing needs. The response time is great and the guys they send are looking out for you. They are very respectful of your property too. Rates are reasonable for basic issues. You will be very happy with the result.

Matthew was an absolute PRO! My unit stopped working overnight, I sent an online service request and by 7:45 the next morning the call center had my appointment set for “within the hour”. I thought “yeah right, I know how this usually goes...” but too my pleasure the Spartan Tech Matthew arrived at my home at 8:22!

He was able to quickly diagnose the problem, show me what he was seeing, and explained the process of repair. He was able to offer advice without being pushy or up-selling. HIGHLY Recommended.

Spartan sent one of their techs Juwan, who was timely to arrive and efficient in his work. He figured out the problem that was causing my furnace not to heat, fixed it, and answered my questions happily along the way. Could not be happier!

I had an issue with my HVAC unit that keeps blowing fuses. I had previously worked with another company for the same issue, but they weren't getting to the root of the problem and I had issues with their responsiveness. I called Spartan and was assigned Matt as my technician. He was able to come out the same day and has been very thorough about what the potential problem is and how he planned to diagnose. He was extremely friendly and professional and considerate of my time and circumstances. I couldn't ask for better service.

I signed up for a maintenance package with this company, and each time they have failed to come in their window. They have a 4.5 hour window! So if you want to waste your whole Saturday waiting on this company. These are your people! The window was 7:30- 12 , but they came at 1ish and this time it’s the same window and who knows when they will come.

Made appointment with contractor last Saturday. Called several times to follow-up. They never showed up, or even returned my call. This is a red flag.

I cannot say enough good things about Spartan for their timeliness and quality of service, particularly Edgar.

I had called Spartan at 9a on a Saturday after my AC began blowing hot air the night before, and to my relief they were able to have the technician (Edgar) at my residence by 1230. Talk about timely- especially on a weekend in the middle of summer!

Edgar was clearly a seasoned expert and had diagnosed the issue within about 10minutes and resolved it within 20. He was knowledgeable, honest, engaging, and personable. My husky will forever be grateful.

Very nice and responsive technician named Doyle came out to my house and fixed a leaking toilet. Only charged $89 which seems like an excellent price. He needed to come again as it wasn't completely fixed on the first try but I still am giving five stars because he came very promptly and only charged for the part and not the labor the second time. I would call them again in the future.

I have been a Spartan customer for several years, now, and always found their plumbers to be well qualified and professional. For today's job (which was to repair a leak in our sink), David was no exception to this rule. I found him to be not only incredibly competent, but extremely polite and cheerful. He carefully explained all of the work he would be doing prior to performing it. He arrived exactly on time and cleaned everything up before leaving. And the area below the sink is now completely dry! I will be requesting David the next time I need plumbing assistance. Thank you, David, for your great work!!

This company's web site says voted best in DC seven years in a row and BBB A+ rated. Buyer beware!

We have used them occasionally for many years. In the past, they would show up on time, do a good job, and charge a fair price. However, they have lately changed their billing practices, and now charge by the job, not by the hour, and the result is their prices have more than doubled. When we called to complain, they gave us a lecture on capitalism.

We are remodeling a small bathroom. Called them to cap off supply and drain lines, and install three simple shut off valves -- an easy job. Total cost of components from Home Depot was $28.91, and it took them 90 minutes to do it (total time in to out the door).

Their fees were:
Three angle stop valves -- $645
2 PVC cap -- $189
1/2 copper cap -- $278
(They waived the $89 dispatch fee)
TOTAL $1,112

I would expect to pay about $400 for this job.

After receiving this exorbitant invoice I contacted them using a different name, and asked them to quote this exact work. They said they would send a tech for $99 ($10 more than what is on their web page, what they charged us last month), and the tech would review the job and provide the quote.

So when you call for their service, the tech shows up and gives you a huge price, and then stands and waits for you to agree to it -- after you already owe them the $99 dispatch fee.

Great service! Zac, who helped us out, went above and beyond. Our air conditioner went out and within 24 hours we had a new unit and things were working great. Definitely the best HVAC company experience I’ve ever had.

Called for AC completely stopped working, technicians arrived within an hour. Turned out to be a drain pipe got clogged. Very kind people and good service.

No need to call them don't waste your time. I told them what was wrong before they got here. Wayne the manager isn't a team player he was no help.. They told me it was no charge for them to come out and look at the heat pump. I will only be charged if work was done. Which nothing was done. All of a sudden they say the AC was fine. After all I was still charged 119 for something I could have did my self. And which I did told them what was wrong with the heat pump compressor comes on but fan won't turn. Temperature is rising in the house like crazy. Bottom line Spartan charged my wife 119 for just looking at it which is highway robbery. I wasn't home at the time..

Aug 25 2021, there is a reason I keep coming back to Spartan for my plumbing needs. Their people are very friendly and knowledgeable, for example today Kenneth showed me what was causing our shower to leak and explained what needed to be fixed in a great way.

Excellent experience! I researched quite a bit before deciding on Spartan to replace my Furnace/Heat pump system. The technician that came over (Gary) for the initial estimate was very professional and knowledgeable. The installation technician (Joaquin) was awesome. He patiently went over ever step of the installation and even found a fault in my thermostat wiring. Definitely recommending them to all my friends and family.

We are so glad that we called Spartan Heating and Plumbing. Our Hot Water Heater was leaking. I called several contractors, and was not pleased with the conversation on solving my concern and I was put on hold. No-show twice in a row for emergency services needed in Ward 7 DC.I simply called Spartan for the advertised 24 hour emergency services due to a bad leak. I was contacted by the on-call plumber who stated he would come out the next day. He did not show up. The following day I called Spartan back to see what happened. I was assured that the on call person would come later that evening. Again, another no-show. Very disappointed with my time wasted.

I had a major dilemma with all drains backed up and no toilets working in my house. Cleo was sent to my house within a couple hours. He even came earlier when I called back to advise Id be home earlier than I thought. He was courteous, personable, very informative and got the job done expediently. If he were my employee I'd pay him anything to keep him working for me. I have had nothing but trouble with plumbing companies in the past so this was refreshing to come across Spartan today. The reason I choose Spartan was because of their excellent reviews, AND the fact that it is woman owned. Does that matter? Who knows.. but it sounded good! I hope to never have to use a plumber again, but if I do, it will be Spartan/Cleo. Thank you.

Called in the morning to fix a steam boiler which was not starting. Spartan sent HVAc technician Joaquin to fix problem that same day. He was on time and courteous. He fixed the problem and even educated me on how to save $20 dollars with an online-coupon. Could not be more pleased with the service.

Scheduling was easy when I called Spartan. They basically asked when do you want us to be there? Even though they were late in arriving for the scheduled afternoon appointment, they called and showed up in the early evening. They were courteous, quick, clean and did a great job unstopping our kitchen drain line. Best of all, very reasonably priced.

I had a one year service contract for a rental property in Rockville, Md were only 1 of the 2 services were completed. Bobby was wonderful! He listened to my concern and honored the contract. The day of service they showed up on time and worked quickly. I will definitely use them again, it's nice to know that Customer Service does still exist.

What's the worst that could happen in DC during summer? the AC breaking down! I found Spartan on google with 4 stars reviews so I gave it a go. Everyone I talked to were polite, with an utmost professionalism. We described the problem (we saw ice buildup around the drainage coil) over the phone and were told to turn off the AC right away so that they could come out the next day in the morning. Joaquin and Matt arrived on time, they diagnosed the problem correctly and fixed it fast. They were knowledgeable about old houses like ours, nice and efficient! We are happy to have worked with Spartan and would recommend them to everyone!

I’ve been a customer of Spartan for about 8 years now, and I’ve always received great service. I’m enjoying the summer thanks to Joaquin and Juwan. They installed my new A/C unit in June and I very happy and cool. Joaquin is so knowledgeable and courteous and honest. He and Juwan were thorough, competent and friendly.

Prices jacked up so high you might call it extortion. Make sure you understand that they're charging $90 just to show up, adding it to whatever service you actually need. When it comes to doing the work, they charge by the job, and not by the hour. The hourly rate for work can approach or even exceed $1,000/hr. I cannot believe the exploitive pricing that's passing for normal these days. I'm giving 2 stars not one because the tech who visited was kind and polite and agreed with me that the prices were way too high, but it was over his head. Also, they only kept me waiting one hour after he was supposed to be a few minutes away. That actually passes as timely in comparison to the next company I tried.

I am highly disappointed by the overall experience. The phone systems are circular and no matter what number you call it is routed to same person which means when you ask for corporate person or office, it is all the same. Job got done but the craftsmanship was lacking and the unprofessional attitude of the folks in leadership positions is terrible. It took 8 visits to get water heater installed properly a month of back and forth. Also when you do business with this company, make sure you use a payment option that prioritizes the customer experience such as American Express. They charge top dollar but do not offer a top dollar experience. My service tech saId, You get what you pay for.... So the 3500 i paid was just for you to sling a water heater in and connect pipes any old kind of way. Well ok.

Arrived, told me they did not have the training to fix the problem and tried to charge me for the visit. This was after, a week earlier, they already assured me with another mechanic that it was fixed after a $400 freon fill. The collections department tried to collect the service charge again, I told them that they left me high and dry and said a manager would call, never called again.

He was very professional and explained the process thoroughly and let me know my options. and proceeded to take care of the issue. I appreciated being spoken to and treated like a valued customer. Needed a new hot water tank. Called for appointment and was greeted by a most cheerful lady. To my sweet surprise she told me someone could come by the next day and that I would receive a call to tell me when they would arrive. The next day a very pleasant and knowledgeable young man (Anil Das) arrived. He explained all my options and the next day arrived as promised. I have used Spartan many times before - both for large and small jobs: It is always the same: no hidden anything, all explained upfront, all jobs done professionally and with proper speed. I am so thankful the owners have weathered this horrid pandemic and they have not lowered their standards. God bless all of you at Spartan.

Joaquin and Juwan were great!! We had been having AC unit issues for weeks and our prior service kept flaking on us. My husband found Spartan and they came out same day. The walked us through each of the potential issues and what we should be looking at when our unit is fully functioning. They didn't rush and we're extremely responsive. Upon arrival JOE and (Joe Jr too) immediately went to work at my property in DC and within 30 minutes they completed FULL Inspection and handed me a written report of findings. My furnace sounded like a jet engine when I turned it on this morning - not ideal for Airbnb guests checking in for the Thanksgiving holiday. I called several plumbing and heating companies. The first came out and the technician asked if I had any tools. Seriously? Spartan called just as I left but their technician, Matthew L., let himself in using the house code, listened to the furnace noise with me over the phone, then proceeded to to do his thing - with tools! He called me back about 20 mins later, reporting he'd diagnosed and fixed the problem...a piece of insulation rubbing against the motor was the culprit. He charged me for just the service call. The other company told me they'd have to order a new motor and replace it to the tune of $400, but they didn't even check it because I only had a screwdriver. Thanks Matthew and Spartan for same day service and for saving the day!

I can't recommend this company strongly enough. After using two different home warranty companies, both of which assigned awful contractor after awful contractor, I decided to look up a company myself for a sump pump repair/replacement. Wade from Spartan came out that same day, around 7PM on a Friday no less, to diagnose the issue. Then a week later came out to replace the sump pump and also fixed a low water pressure issue in the kitchen.

Look, I get that home warranty companies are appealing in terms of peace of mind, but after my experience with Spartan, and specifically Wade, I'm cancelling my home warranty agreement and getting a service contractor with Spartan. There are not enough companies out there today with professionalism, good manners, and courteous staff. Wade has been out to my unit twice, and both times, was extremely polite to my girlfriend and I (and our dog), explained what he was doing, helped us understand WHY he was doing it. He took what was an absolutely awful situation with our sump pump/home warranty company, and seriously turned our day around by helping out. We almost had tears in our eyes just from how nice he was compared to the multiple contractors sent out by the home warranty company.

Needed an urgent AC repair visit on the weekend. Was able to speak to a live person immediately and schedule same day service. The technician was able to assess and fix the issue and offered several additional recommendations for extending the life and performance of the system.

I needed my radiators flushed. They called when they were in route, as promised. Very professional. Matthew (who wore a mask) explained what he was doing and why. I strongly recommend them. After a very hot night of no AC, Spartan was the fastest company to respond to my emergency service request. Joaquin came within one hour of my initial call and despite it being 7:30 on a Sunday and was incredibly friendly and warm. The issue was a minor one but rather than walking out after five minutes, Joaquin checked the whole system, explaining how it worked and some common issues to look out for and best practices to keep it working well. along the way. Incredibly affordable, too. Great company and great employee in Joaquin.

If I could give this company more than 5 stars I truly would. I had a emergency heating issue where my furnace stopped functioning and we were getting severe snowy weather. A previous company came out and failed to complete the job that my home warranty dispatched. As a result, I was frantic because we were still without heat. I scrambled to find a company on my own and found Spartan. I can't express enough how professional and understanding both Sharron and Matthew were to my extreme emergency. Sharron completely calmed my nerves down by assuring me I was in good hands and they will be able to take care of my heating issue. As a result Sharron dispatched Matthew who was already quite booked for the day but he was able to squeeze time in for me any way (I'm so grateful). When Matthew arrived he was such a joy to work with. He explained everything in detail he was doing to troubleshoot my problem and within a matter of minutes he found my issue and corrected it right away. Words can not express how grateful I am to Sharron and Matthew. Too often companies will hear from the customer when they are dissatisfied but it's not often companies hear about their employees who provided excellent customer service and being extremely knowledgeable about their work. Well I could not let Sharron and Matthew excellent customer service and knowledge go unnoticed. I will definitely recommend this company to friends and family and I plan to use them again if the need arises.

Joaquin and Edgar were outstanding! They arrived within 30 mins of the initial call to dispatch. They were courteous and polite and took great care to educate my family on exactly what was needed to keep us in tip top shape. Before they left they tested the system and didn't leave until we were completely satisfied. Absolutely amazing team and I totally recommend them to anyone!

I’m disappointed by the lack of professionalism by the office staff. I was quoted a price on the phone and once the service was done I’m told it is that price plus labor. Why was the price of labor not included or told plus labor.
Than I find out I could have paid a lower price if I had a maintenance agreement. I could have been told this as well on the phone before the service. I way more than Hvac maintenance because the office staff was not informed.
The service tech Zac was very professional and patient.

A weekend kitchen sink drain stoppage solved. The Spartan people were available, prompt and helpful. I've been a Spartan customer before and will be again.

My agent was Zac. He was very professional and came out for same day service. He took the time to patiently explain the issues with the unit even though I have very little knowledge about HVAC units.
