Yesterday my husband came home to a swarm of bees around our front door. He googled bee removal in Phoenix and found Mountain View Pest Control. Unfortunately he didn’t think to read the reviews, probably because he was busy chasing our toddler around.
They told him they would have someone out within the hour. When the guy got here we asked him if he could relocate the bees and he said very matter of factly that he couldn’t because they were near a structure, which I now know to be false. He put his suit on quickly, and immediately started spraying. Then he mentioned to my husband that he would need to put an extra seal (I don’t know the exact term) on or he can’t guarantee the smoke will be effective. This is the first time he mentioned any sort of price. He said the seal was an extra $300. My husband agreed, thinking the base cost was maybe around $250. After he’s done spraying he tells my husband the total is going to be $995.00.
My husband contacted the owner of the company and told them that not once was price mentioned before the service was performed and all they kept saying was “so why did you get the extra service?” Eventually they came to an agreement that we would give them $200 now and pay the rest later. Our mistake for not having $1,000 lying around ?. The owner told my husband “if you don’t pay us it’s going to be a problem”.
After the threatening attitude from the owner, the technician sat in our driveway for almost 45 minutes until my husband called the owner and told him that he needs to tell his technician to leave.
It wasn’t until after this ordeal that I looked at the reviews online. They were all TERRIBLE. Almost mirroring the experience we had.
At the end of the day, we will be paying the full price since it’s not worth it to get into a messy situation with a shady business, but we have learned a couple huge lessons here. 1. ALWAYS READ REVIEWS and 2. Always inquire about price before the service is performed. Unfortunately, this company is very good at getting the service started right away so you don’t have time to ask.
If you read this whole post I applaud you. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from this company. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB, but if anyone else has any advice on where else I can file complaints I am all ears.
