I called Tioga Plumbing after being referred to them as the Rinnai tankless water heater “gurus”.
Kody, the technician, came out and visually looked over the unit. After looking at it, he offered me two options:
1) run a diagnostic test to determine problem ($373)
2) get a quote for a whole new unit ($5100)
I chose the diagnostic report because I didn’t want to buy a whole new unit without at least seeing what the problem was. Determined to be too high of gas pressure to the unit.
I got a second opinion because I didn’t like that approach by immediately assuming I needed a new unit without checking what it could be.
The second plumber came out, cleaned a flame rod and the water heater fired right back up. They might’ve been at the house for 20 mins.
I called Tioga to talk to them about what the second plumber had done. Wade, the owner, called me back and informed me that the company policy is to call Rinnai Tech Support and follow their instructions. Rinnai didn’t advise to check the flame rod (super simple fix).
I would’ve liked for licensed professional in the industry to at least check all boxes since they are the boots on the ground and not technical support.
Tioga will not offer a refund as the called Tech Support and followed instructions to determine what MIGHT be the problem.
I only give a second star because they were extremely prompt and came out the same day.
