Mitchell W. was the plumber who helped me and he was great—gave me a heads up when he was on his way, quickly diagnosed the source of the leak, and looked at a couple other potential problem areas while he was here. Repairing the leak wasn’t as costly as I thought it would be and I appreciated the honesty and his not trying to upcharge me.

We had our sewer back up and it was nightmare. I called McVay and Mitch was here within 2 hours. He had our sewer cleared in no time. He thoroughly explained what our situation was and when I asked about their trenchless piping, he explained in detail the complete process. He was professional and efficient...and he wasn't pushy about replacing our pipes...I loved that! I highly recommend this company. McVay and Mitch get an A+ rating from me.

Mitch Wigginton came and immediately identified the issue for the leaky shower. He was able to identify the model and cartridge that needed to be replaced (note: shower had no label). Reason for the cartridge needing replaced was that my boys cranked on it too hard when they either turn it off or on. Also, he checked the water pressure to the house to see if we had an underlying problem due to multiple toilets needing to be replaced. He explained what a pressure valve does and what is normal for a house. Overall, he was in and out of the house quickly, very professional, clean, picked up after himself, and thoroughly explained the process of all jobs (and tools). Thanks, Joe.

My friends told me If you want it done right, you go with McVay, and they were absolutely spot on. We had three issues: a tankless water heater throwing a code, a toilet replacement, and a flush valve repair on a separate toilet. Cody took care of the initial diagnosis of the water heater (replace with tank heater, after waiting for Rheem on the phone for an hour- what patience!), the toilet replacement, and the flush valve repair; Cody was friendly and professional, even when my family surprise-visited and bugged him; he also walked through my options for a new water heater with me and helped me decide what model was best based on capacity and price.

A few days later, Cody and Ian came back to install the new water heater. At all times they made sure I knew what they were doing, and they were extremely kind and willing to teach me about my new appliances.

All in all, if I could give 10 stars out of 5, I would. I'll definitely be going with McVay for anything I need in the future.

McVay Plumbing recently repaired and lined my old terra cotta sewer lines. They also dug out and replaced the cast iron pipe in my basement floor and dug a 7 foot deep hole in my backyard to replace a trap filled with roots. There was no way to get heavy equipment in my yard so the hole had to be dug by hand. This was obviously a complicated and difficult job. The guys worked hard and did the job in 4 days. The job included cement work to repair the basement floor which included a floor drain, toilet and shower drain. All of the guys were friendly and easy to work with. Nic in particular was able to accommodate a couple special requests on the basement work. I couldn't be more pleased with their work and work ethic. I highly recommend McVay Plumbing.

Overall magnificent and efficient service. Ian and Kevin came by today to replace a portion of my cast-iron drain stack and established a water/drain hook up for my washing machine. They also helped install the exhaust pipe to my dryer.
Ian was careful when cutting into the drain stack and cleaned up the all of the debris and water that collected on the floor. Kevin did a great job in connecting my dryer exhaust pipe, working the project, and walked me through everything they did as well. They both worked as a team and were done a lot faster than we all expected. I will be having them come out again for anything else I need in the future.

I had a major blockage in my main sewer line in my yard when a root broke through my sewage pipe. The guys from McVay quickly and very efficiently replaced the broken section of pipe, with minimal disruption to my service or my landscaping in my yard. We had a burst pipe for our outside hose replaced by McVay today. My sewage trap experienced catastrophic collapse. McVay came out, gave a competitive price, and had their team onsite within the week. McVay Plumbing repaired an under floor basement drain that was completely blocked. The house was build in the 1930's and the drain is terra cotta. The blockage was from a partially collapsed terra cotta pipe and fat buildup from the upstairs kitchen sink. The plumbers, Nick C and Dave B, found the blockage and methodically broke up the basement floor and pipe until they reached clear part of the pipe. They then installed plastic pipe and reattached the sink drain. It was a big job, a lot of hard work. The guys were very knowledgeable, professional and personable. They explained the job at every step of the way and was able to complete the job in a single shift at a reasonable cost. I couldn't recommend these plumbers more. They are my new go to guys for plumbing.

Kevin was nice, very respectful of my home, and honored my request for him to wear a face mask. He did a thorough search to identify the source of a leak in my basement, but couldn’t find it. Cost of the service call was reasonable, and Kevin assured me he’d come back if the leak returned (and apply the cost of the initial service call towards the followup visit).

My sewer was completly clogged with roots. McVay dug a 4x6 hole at my house trap and sleeved my sewer line all the way to the main sewer. They were done in two days and did not need to dig up my entire property. Work was done as scheduled and performed in a workmanlike manor. I have grass growing in the affected area after only a week. I could not have asked for a more professional team.

I have hired McVay plumbing for three separate plumbing issues these past two years and every time they have delivered superior service. The technicians have been friendly and efficient when diagnosing and repairing my plumbing problems. What I admire about this company is that the technicians, whether trained to do this or not, find the most cost effective ways to fix the problem without cutting corners and endangering my property. Most recently while we were on vacation, Kelsey delivered superior service when one of our basement pipes were damaged from the recent freeze. She efficiently in a courteous manner repaired everything while we were away without our direct supervision. We returned from vacation happy to know the issue was fixed and we didn't have to spend a single day without water. While these days it seems that no plumbing work affordable, based on my experience with McVay these last couple of years you definitely get what you pay for. I can't recommend McVay and their technician Kelsey enough if you have a plumbing problem.

McVay Plumbing is the best company if you have any problem. They just replaced a pipe for me $3,000 cheaper then Roto Rooter. The men were exceptional workers. The people I talked with on the phone were so friendly. It was a pleasure dealing with them.

Our shower handle cartridge went bad Sunday night and the water wouldn't turn off. We had to cut the water off to the house. Monday morning, I called three other plumbers who couldn't see us until Friday. I called McVay after reading high recommendations and Teale was very helpful looking for a way to work me in first thing the next day to at least get the faucet turned off so we could have water until they could come back out. The plumber was here first thing Tuesday morning, were able to fix the faucet and we are back in business! He was very friendly and professional. McVay is now our go-to plumber!

McVay was one of the plumbing companies willing/able to get on the roof and scope from the roof vent which was necessary to figure out the ongoing issue.
We had already had another local plumber come to the house twice with only temporary fixes.
Now we know we’re calling McVay first when we have another service need.

Called McVay to have a tub diverter replaced. My techician (Ian S.) was very professional and curteous. Ian arrived and immediately placed booties on over his boots. He gave me a qoute and quickly replaced my diverter. After finishing, he asked me to Quality Check his work to ensure my satisfaction. Great job Ian, keep up the great work!

This is my second time using McVay plumbing. The company is currently under new ownership and while I was happy with my first experience it was even better this time. Mitch came out to do an inspection of some problems I was having and gave me an estimate of each individual job. He then returned with Ian and Cody to complete the work which included repairing a hot water tank, repairing a leaking toilet, and repairing a leaking bathtub. A lot of the plumbing in my house was very old and had been installed improperly. They arrived on time, finished the job more quickly than I expected, cleaned the place up when they were done with the work, and were incredibly helpful and pleasant. I would absolutely recommend them and use them again for any plumbing work I need in the future.

I bought an old home in Penn Hills that began having numerous plumbing related issues almost immediately. Toilets not flushing, drainage problems, and the pipes for the first floor bathroom went down into an unheated crawl space in the basement. McVay was the first name that came up -- Mike came over within a few hours and fixed the plumbing issue in the bowl which was small. Three months later, in the dead of winter when the pipes in the unheated crawl froze and burst, Mike was over in around an hour, applied a heated tape to keep them from bursting again, and didn't charge me for the late night call. I no longer live in pittsburgh but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to call them for work.

This review is for Kevin, he came today and hooked up a water line for our new Fridge and new kitchen we are having done. Also put in a shut off Valve in the basement and put in a new Faucet today. He. Was very nice and helpful about things we didn't even know we needed. He was very Knowledgeable and I will be calling in the future.

Devin is a great plumber / tech. He isn't trying to sell you any extra services or mislead you about what's wrong with your plumbing. He is efficient at clearing drain clogs without bringing out the big guns unless necessary. He usually clears out the clogs using just a camera and then makes sure to view all the pipes to verify everything is perfect before leaving our home.

I've used a few plumbers before landing on McVay and specifically Devin. I won't use anyone else in the future.

First time I have used McVay Plumbing. I was very pleased with Mitchel. He arrived on time and was very polite. he completed the service in a timely fashion and explained what he was doing.. I will recommend this company and use in the future when needed.

This is my first review that I ever wrote, I work in the Auto Industry where reviews are the most important feed back we get. I purchased a new house and the dye test failed because there was a crack in the sewer line, in the closing of the house $5,000 was set aside so this work could be completed. After I moved in McVay Plumbing contacted me to schedule the work needed to fix the issue. Job was done in a few days and I thought that was that. However when we tried to turn our front light on it tripped the breaker, puzzled I reset it and tried again and bang the breaker tripped again. I knew something was wrong so after investigating I found that McVay Plumbing dug up the front light post electrical line and taped the exposing wires together so every time I turned on the light it tripped the breaker. You would think they would know better than to tape the wires together touching one another... After discovering this I called McVay Plumbing and spoke to Mike the Owner and asked him if he remembers doing the job and if he remembers digging up the Electrical line to my front light, he said NO. Not only did he say NO but informed me that when they dug there hole in my front yard that they never ran into a electrical line. I asked him who taped the lines together then since my breaker was not tripping until after they finished the job, he had no answer for me. So being that the electrical line was taped and sticking out of the ground that they dug up I asked him if I was responsible to repair it and his answer to me was and I quote I'm not a Electrician Really?? That's what he told me... So I thanked him for his time in taking my call and hung up. I'm not a plumber, electrician or carpenter either. Knowing a little bit I started digging a hole so I could locate the other end of the line so I could splice them back together and have a working front light post. After digging down and finding the other electrical line under the ground I followed it up and to my surprise the other end was stuffed inside my bush right next to the hold that McVay Plumbing dug in my front yard. That would have been nice to know and would have made my Electrician repair job much easier. After saying a few obscenities about the fact that I had to take my time and novice skill level to repair McVay's Plumbing error I spliced the wire correctly and taped it up and buried it the way it should have been before McVay Plumbing said the job was finished and moved on to another. I was going to let it go and move on with my life but as much as I work hard to get excellent reviews from all of my customers (99.6% CSI ranking) I thought that if you are looking for any plumbing work done and you read this that it might help you decide on who you can trust to give you a complete job and not half ass.

Working with Ian and Kevin was a really great experience. My husband and I needed to have the hot water tank, main water line valve, and stack pipe replaced. Both were punctual, professional and reviewed everything that they had done. In the future if we have any plumbing needs we will for sure be using McVay!

Our previous plumber who retired had recommended McVay. We have used them a few times, and have had amazing service every time. We had a clogged pipe most recently, and they were able to come out the next day. Our technician, Mitch, was outstanding with being friendly, professional, and informative. He was able to take care of the clog, give a quote for some non-urgent work- while pointing out a trap issue which will be addressed on another scheduled service. My house is for sale and my buyer hired McVay plumbing to do a camera evaluation of the underground sewer lateral. Technician (Devin) was very professional and spent 20 minutes working to get his camera equipment through the old cast iron house trap. He was able to get the camera into the line and the inspection revealed a damaged section of piping approximately 90 feet from the house. The estimate to repair was reasonable, all things considered. I would highly recommend this company.

Mitch was excellent. He came to came my sewer line to look for deteriorations. Have had other assessments done. His was the most through. The company proposed a better way to solve some underlying problems in a more logical approach than others. The price was also most reasonable. Having the work done in several weeks.

Josh and Nick handled the sewer cleaning at our new home. From start to finish, they communicated perfectly and were pleasant and professional. Every question I asked with regards to the process and timing was answered honestly. I HIGHLY recommend McVay's services. When I called in a panic about my hot water tank flooding my basement, Patty was very kind and patient with me. She got me scheduled for a hot water tank removal and installation SAME-DAY! When Cody and Kevin arrived, they were extremely knowledgable and helpful with replacing my hot water tank. They not only explained the issues with my last tank, but were VERY TRANSPARENT with the costs and labor associated with replacing it before starting their work. I turned away 3 different companies for this job before meeting Cody and Kevin at McVay and I am so glad that I did. They were professional, courteous and I appreciate that they were very careful when removing my old tank and putting in the new one. I have had a leak in my basement for some time. It was discovered that it was coming from the kitchen sink. A handyman said that he could fix it and found that there was a clog that he attempted to remove with a snake. He removed the clog but was unable to remove the snake. So I called McVay Plumbing and tried my best to explain the situation. That very afternoon, Ian Simon came to my house and assessed the situation. He removed the snake in about 10 minutes and then replaced the pipe that allowed me to use my kitchen sink again. He explained how he could improve the drainage system so that the leaking problem would not come back. I was so very impressed with his expertise and ability to look at the big picture. I certainly will use McVay Plumbing in the future and will recommend them to my friends.

Quick, friendly, professional, trustworthy would be a few words I would use to describe my experience with McVay Plumbing.

Didnt have work done, but when i stopped to ask a few simple questions about a job that needed done; I was brushed off and told to wait while the hired help turned a screw. It took two of them to achieve this action and neither one was capable of talking at the same time. Apparently a very difficult screw to turn. Hopefully i will find a different company to use if this is an example of their desire for more work.

I had had a less expensive quote for opening up my garage drain, but they were unavailable (too busy). I thought I'd better act quickly because it was warm but there was a prediction of dramatically falling temperatures and plumbers are hard to get when everyone's pipes are frozen.

McVay was professional and pleasant and helpful in my phone interaction with them. They followed up with progress phone calls, and arrived just about when they had promised to arrive. McVay was $125.00 for the first hour. I think I was glad the other guys were too busy because Devin fro McVay was both professional and a very nice guy. He got my drain opened rather quickly. I liked them enough that I recommended them to our condo maintenance chief who oversees 32 units.

I had a leak upstairs leaking down into my laundry room. Josh was the plumber sent out to do the job. He was very friendly, efficient and professional. He found the leak and made the appropriate repairs. He took the time to explain what he was doing and let me feel the difference in the old cheaper copper pipes compared to the new thicker pipes. He also replaced two shutoff valves.
He used shoe protectors without even asking. Anyone that has carpet can appreciate this.

I could not be happier with the work done in my house by McVay plumbing. Two things to highlight. The concrete finisher is outstanding. Wish I had caught his name. Then Nick Mitchell came in, expertly installed new water and drain piping for my fixtures, then reinstalled them perfectly. His attention to detail is second to none. He was courteous, professional, and did everything he could to make sure I was satisfied. McVay is very reasonable. They were a pleasure to deal with. Great company!

Just had a Furnace, Air Conditioning and Hot water tank replace some very old units. The techs Brandon and Robbie did an excellent job ripping out the old units and installing the new ones. They had to do some real work arounds to get the furnace intake and exhaust pipes out the back of the house and Brandon recommended to his supervisor to change the type of Hot water tank from a shorter fatter unit that was first proposed to a taller thinner unit that would fit better into the same area as the old one.They never stopped working all day the two days they were there.

Overall McVay did a great job. They were quick to respond, and their rep Adam, who did the original bid was extremely knowledgeable, professional and pleasant. I had already gotten several bids. Their’s was very fair and I had the most confidence in their ability to do the job right. They were timely and arrived on schedule. After the work was done, they sent Chris out to follow up and make sure that all was well. I very much appreciated that personal touch. Chris was also very pleasant and professional. They had some difficulty getting the liner in, but they were persistent and returned to complete the job. My only issue was a little lack of communication about the return time. They are merging with another company, so some bumpiness in that transition is to be expected. Once I expressed my need for better communication, though, they were very quick to rectify that issue. Everyone I spoke to at McVay, with the exception of their answering service, was courteous, competent and efficient. They seem to be a company that really cares about customer satisfaction and their reputation. I would recommend them to anyone with confidence.

This is the 2nd time we’ve had them do work at our house this year. (First time was a repair, second time was a dye test so we could sell our house.) I HIGHLY recommend them for any and all work you need done.

I wanted to share my experience with Arendosh/McVay. From my initial call to schedule an appointment to get an estimate for a new air conditioning unit to the installation. Everything was perfect. I worked with John who provided me with information and a quote for a new air conditioning unit. John educated me on air conditioning and what would best meet our needs. John was great and very professional. I had some additional questions for him that I emailed him on Sunday and he was very responsive and provided me with the answers that I needed on Sunday! That is dedication. Robert and Nathan did the installation of the unit. Robert and Nathan were on time, personable, professional and took the time to explain everything to me that they were going to do in terms I could understand. I highly recommend this company. I am also going to sign up for their maintenance program to service both my furnace and air conditioner.

McVay Plumbing is one of the best plumbing business I’ve encountered. Once being able to contact someone, they were very responsive and came out to assess my plumbing issues right away (main drain pipe replacement and bathroom drain trap repair and replacement). Their quotes are very reasonable, as I received several quotes from other plumbers that were excessively high and extremely costly where they tried to get me to finance the work. McVay relieved my stress where the same work was affordable and did not require financing.

Ian and Randy are two of the most professional and friendly plumbers in the game. I recommend requesting specifically for these two gentlemen as their customer service was beyond excellent and their communication was quality customer service and related in terms that I was able to understand.

The service is definitely five stars to start off with they were on time and didn't have me waiting around all day. The gentleman Mitch W. was super kind. We were having some sewer problems in the basement he even made sure when I flushed the toilet a few times but everything would be good after he was gone. I would definitely recommend the company as well as the same gentleman Mitch W. For my family and friends. 10/10.

Had the pleasure of meeting Ian this morning. I called McVay yesterday for a leaking outdoor spigot. I spoke to Ben, who set up an appointment for this morning. Ian called 30 minutes before he arrived and he was on time. He quoted me a price before starting the job. He worked efficiently and had the new faucet handle on in a timely manner. I am happy with the new quarter turn handle he put on my spigot. I would recommend McVay plumbing, although I do feel the $89 travel fee is a bit steep from penn hills to Monroeville.

Have 1950’s brick house in Penn Hills.
Noticed sewer gas smell in basement but couldn’t locate cause for 2 days.Thought there might be a blockage somewhere.
I called McVay and their technician Devin Twardy was there the next day.
He covered all the bases, camera scoped the newer trenchless line to the street as well as the old Terra cotta under the house. Everything was OK.
Then he checked basement drains and one had gone low on water in the trap, allowing sewer gas into the basement. The dehumidifier lowered the water level. Devin filled the trap and advised me to pour water down the drain periodically. Problem solved. These guys will be first ones called if any more problems.

PS The trenchless line was put in 5 years ago by McVay. They saved me really a lot of money versus going with quotes from good companies who wanted to do the job by digging a trench from the house to the street.

Matt and Cody installed a washer/dryer box and did a wonderful job. Very professional and timely.

2017: I can't say enough good things about McVay Plumbing. We had a leaking pipe in our bathtub drainage system that was very difficult to access. Another plumbing company actually turned us down because of the difficulty of accessing the problem area. Greg and Brian came out and fixed the issue promptly, efficiently, and professionally. They were also very approachable, took time to explain the repair process, and gave us suggestions about how to prevent future problems. Meanwhile, the price was more than reasonable. From first call to final resolution, McVay's treated us very fairly. Highly recommend.

2023 follow up: We used McVay again for a water heater replacement in July 2023 and once again had fast and efficient service. Kevin was our technician and he provided very friendly service and was very willing to take his time in explaining the issue and answer my questions. This seems like a good company that consistently hires great people.

Mitch W. was sent to help with my drainage and back up problem. They sent the right guy. He was very knowledgeable, pleasant, friendly and told me honestly what I need to do in the future to keep this from happening again. The problem was fixed in a reasonable time and the price was reasonable too.

McVay / Arendosh has been our vendor in the past for our furnace. Today they installed our first whole house air conditioning system. Chris and Dalton, our service technicians, were professional, friendly and thorough from the moment they arrived (which was on time). They reviewed what they were going to do, they asked if we had any questions.
Once the installation was completed and the unit charged, they explained some things to us about a whole house unit. We had several questions that they answered. They showed us how to use our existing thermostat properly now with both heating and air conditioning.
We highly recommend McVay / Arendosh for anyone with a heating or air conditioning need. They have always had excellent technicians and products.

9/1/2022: Hopefully this will be the last update.
Greg from McVay came out Monday and Tuesday to finish figuring out why things still weren’t working. As of today everything is functioning as it should.
I am very grateful that they are willing to continue to come out and try to address the problem.

As of 8/29/2022: I am very frustrated, I trusted McVay to know, or at least figure out my issues and they haven’t.
I originally contacted McVay at the end of July in regards to my kitchen sink and toilet gurgling loudly and the sump pump in my basement turning on/off and pushing water back up into the toilet and tub.
They came out and the technician who came spent maybe 10 minutes in the basement - determined that he would need a master plumber and to get a quote and quickly left. I was working from home and he left before I could ask any questions at all.

It seems that nothing was done to confirm that the sump pump was the root cause of my problem - as they repaired that but the issues are STILL HAPPENING.
I foolishly trusted that they knew what the issue was and that their solution was the right one.

I cannot help but think that if better investigation had been done from the start that the correct resolution would have been done from the beginning.

Even if they still had to do the expensive repair along with another one, at least it would have been completed all at one time.

I will acknowledge that Greg did come and cap the uncapped pipe on Saturday and returned on Monday with Ian and cleared the vent.
We were also told at that time that the kitchen sink was a separate issue that would mean another repair of about $400.

However when they’d finished clearing the vent - they flushed the toilet a few times and said it was fixed and left.
We’d said multiple times that the running the shower caused the toilet to gurgle - they didn’t check it.
Within a few hours of their leaving the kitchen sink gurgled when the toilet was flushed and *I* ran the shower for a combined time of less than 10 minutes, hoping that the toilet gurgling would not return and the sink could be handled later, and the gurgling started in the toilet again and it backed up when we tried to flush.
I am now back where I started, only with $3,005 spent and still unable to use my shower or toilet.
I feel as though I have been greatly taken advantage of for my lack of plumbing knowledge and considered a nuisance in trying to have this remedied. My partner was told “we fixed what was on the invoice” but that wasn’t the repair that was needed.
It’s like saying “we fixed the car’s radio” when what is needed is new tires.

UPDATE TO 5 stars: Cody arrived at 8am and got to work immediately on the job. Kelsey arrived shortly after and they were focused and did the work without a problem. When they finished they talked me through the job and showed me what they had done. It was exactly as described and works like a dream!!

I couldn’t be happier with my service, and will absolutely use McVay in the future.

UPDATE to 4 stars: I received a call today from Stephen the Service Manager at McVay. He sincerely apologized for the delays in my quote and was very sympathetic. He made sure to take my comments to heart and gave me a discount on my quote for the trouble.
Provided all goes well with the work - I will be using McVay in the future. And will update to a 5 star if work is done well and quickly.

I am very disappointed- I used McVay in February on a recommendation and they were fantastic.
I have another issue currently - they came Thursday morning and I was told by the tech that he would need to consult a master plumber and would get me a quote ASAP.
It is now Tuesday morning and even after multiple calls to get some sort of status, and being told each time I would get a call back. I have not heard anything from them.
I really wanted to have them do the work as they did such a good job last time and I trusted they wouldn’t overcharge. Now I am looking for a new plumber to do the work.

Had an issue with a clogged toilet. i reached out to another plumber that i was recommended but he could not do the job. He recommended McVay Plumbing.

Come to find out that the clog is not just in toilet but much deeper and will require replacing piping. I was hopeful this was not the case. The pipes they recommended replacing were the same pipes i had gotten 2 other estimates and because i was able to unclog previously, i never had the pipes replaced. Well, it is time now because we are totally back up.

Here is the good part...McVay charged 1500-2000 less than the other 2 plumbers that gave me estimates 2 -3 years ago. Not only was the price great, but Josh C and Matt S were wonderful. They were very professional and timely. Josh even made sure the clean up was on point(he made sure i had bleach so he could clean after work was done).

Bottom line...you will not be disappointed if McVay Plumbing with Josh C and Matt S shows up at your door!!!!!

Excellent customer service and a thorough job done for my sanitary relining. I had four quotes done and this was the company I felt most comfortable with to do the work. They even squeezed me into their schedule more than a week earlier than expected (which was much appreciated so that I could get an occupancy permit). The owner, Mike was very friendly and took the time to explain the process of a trench-less relining system in order to avoid the costly process of digging up sections of the sanitary pipe from the house to the street.

They were personable and informative, returned phone calls with updates for service and showed up on the scheduled service date. They installed a sewer line liner, held to their quoted price (which was significantly lower than their competitors) and were neat and cleaned up after themselves. I understand the hesitation to call a plumbing service, especially when the situation dictates a faster response. You feel like you have zero control in what is happening and your distress may be taken advantage of. We've all heard horror stories or have had personal experience of paying a contractor half up front and never coming back or just accepting their assessment of the situation because you need their services.
None of these are reflective of my experience with McVay. Devin showed up within the time window that was scheduled, was kind and listened to my story of the situation. He entered my basement and what seemed to be just seconds had created a map of all the pipes in my basement in his brain. He had his equipment set and and running in minutes and was diligent about finding the issue. He kept me in the loop as to what he was seeing and made the effort to solve the problem. I believe others would have stopped at the initial distance and pushed a more expensive service and had to return later.
Devin completed the job and gave his seal of approval after clearing over a hundred feet. He was clear in the fees for his services and the additional maintenance service he would recommend for my aging pipes.
Super happy, super confident and i believe great value for my money. Especially since his expertise and skills were so valuable. On a side note.... while Devin was actively working on my issue he was guiding newer plumber over the phone and didn't miss a beat.

I've used McVay Plumbing for both a sewer cam when we initially were purchasing our home and this second time to do some small repairs. Cody came to fix a leaky tub faucet and also found that our pressure reducer was in need of repair. Showering outside with a garden hose wasn't all that bad in the summer months, but something had to be done. My basement kept flooding whenever we used the upstairs bathroom and it was either that or the utility sink to wash our bits and pieces.

Gillece quoted me at around $8,000 to rip up the concrete under my house and run new pipe, but the dude seemed shady. I was about to roll up my sleeves and immerse myself in YouTube University's crash course in Plumbing 101, when my real estate broker recommended I call McVay.

They came and ran a camera down the pipeline, finding the real cause of my plumbing woes. Roots were growing into my pipe in addition to the whole thing being constructed half-assed by the guy I purchased the house from less than a year prior.

Mike and the crew were a bit overbooked, so it would be a month or so until they could do the work, but he honored his agreement to come and snake out the roots for free whenever needed until the scheduled appointment. They got the job done and were upfront and honest with me, showing camera footage and going over the details of what they were doing. The job came in at a fraction of what I was quoted by Gillece and I'm positive they did a better job than another plumbing company or my drunken buddies and I would have done.

I have used McVay Plumbing for over ten years now. I first met Mike when he helped me get through the plumbing inspection when I was buying my first house. It was a bit of a fixer upper and I dealt with many different contractors. McVay was one that I did not have to chase around and worry about. The crew did their job and followed the codes which made my inspector happy.

Mike also has helped me with some of my remodeling projects. He roughed in my master bath, and let me install the shower heads and hookups so I could feel like a man in front of my wife... Then I tried the toilet! I was on the phone with him all worried I had bought the wrong toilet, he says I'll set that toilet! Pulls up and within fifteen minutes was flushing it...

Kelsey and Adam repaired my water valves under the sink and installed a new dishwasher. Their work was excellent and they were very pleasant to deal with! I will make McVay my plumber of choice.

Needing a dye test for my new house I had someone come out and ran a camera through the sewer and said there were roots and it wouldn’t pass. McVay was recommended by a few people. They came out and I fully expected bad news. They ran the camera and saw no issues (he said some mistake cobwebs for roots). I was not charged anything for him to come out and run the camera like many places do. Fortunately I didn’t need my sewer replaced but I know if I ever do McVay will be the only call I make.

I called McVay this morning at 8 am, by 12 both Mitchell and Randy had arrived at my house to take a look at my plumbing situation. Within 30 minutes, they identified the problem and showed me the depth of how bad it was (broken pipe behind a stack in the basement). They were professional and friendly and made me feel like I was being taken care of by a friend. While the work may have to continue beyond this initial visit, I'm confident that the folks at McVay will take good care of us and solve our issues like they lived here.

Edit: Nic B and Damean and their whole team came out, dug up our pipes and replaced them brand new in less than 2 days (including demolition and pouring new concrete!). I was incredibly impressed with Adam and Teale from the Operations side as well. Would recommend working with them for any plumbing projects you need done.

He also investigated a humming noise under the dishwasher & and discovered a copper pipe damaged during the x-mas freeze which was spewing water into the shed below the kitchen. Made a new drain line from second floor apartment through first floor and into the basement sewer line. I used McVay Plumbing to both repair a toilet with a slow leak and a dye test. When Devin arrived he thoroughly explained the dye test process, which was appreciated. He was very efficient with how quickly he was able to complete both jobs. I appreciated his professionalism at completing the work.

I had to call them a few times to unclog an upstairs toilet. They really tried to unclog it without having to cut the piping, but that just wasn't possible. I had water leaking from a drainpipe situated behind a finished basement wall; Mitch and Kevin performed the repair and were quick, efficient, and friendly. They had to cut through drywall, install an access panel, cut through the drainpipe and install a cleanout, and snake out the clog. I was very nervous about this turning into a monster project but they handled everything carefully and with expertise and confidence. I couldn't be happier!

Awesome service and great group of plumbers. Mike (the owner) came out a day or two after I gave them a call and immediately had the most economical and understanding assessment of the situation and issue. He was able to identify a shared sewer lateral that other plumbers had missed and quickly developed a solution that required minimal excavation and minimal concrete demolition inside. His team replaced a trap and during the repair, identified a utility chase that nobody even glanced at. Inside the chase, the team found a massive cracked cast iron plumbing stack that served my main bathroom on the second floor (and leaked every time I showered). They used the best technology around and were willing to talk to my insurance agents multiple times. All in all, an amazing experience and will definitely be using them for any plumbing needs in the future!

At first, I would have given this business a higher rating, but after experiencing subsequent problems with their work, my husband and I are not happy. They did a sewer liner for us, but didn't address all of the problems. Therefore it looks like we're going to need to have more work done, which we obviously would have rather done all at once. While the work may be less expensive than others, I think the adage of you get what you pay for definitely rings true. It's still not cheap by the way - $5,000 for a fixing a problem but not actually fixing it isn't really worth it.

The biggest problem though is that the owner is incredibly unprofessional. He would not allow me to even ask about my problems and then stated that I was talking to him like a retard on the phone. I could not believe the things he said to me - calling me crazy and ignorant (but meaning rude I guess since he clearly doesn't know what the word actually means) among a series of other jabs. He also hung up on me at least 3 times in 10 minutes.

In the end, their work is sloppy at best (they literally leave sewage everywhere when they work), and I would never recommend this business to someone.

McVay was phenomenal in repairing our sewer line - they not only offered a cheaper and better repair than their competition, but they were also very professional and trustworthy. I love giving business to a local company, too. In particular, our team of Jackson, Tyler, and Dave were very professional, communicative, kind and efficient. They wore masks the entire repair. They encountered an unforeseen problem and efficiently resolved it. Further, the front desk is very professional and great at scheduling the repair and communicating when the team will be arriving. We were having an issue with our pipes: loud noises and vibration issues. After doing some research and even asking our contractor (who did some remodeling in our house) we never received any clarification as to why our pipes were making these noises or where the noises were even coming from. Recently, the noises and vibration got louder, so I contacted Mcvay Plumbing. Honestly, I wish I would have contacted them sooner. Greg came out and quickly fixed the issue. He knew exactly what the problem was and where it was coming from. He was actually able to fix the issue without replacing a valve which ended up saving us some money. Also, while he was there he also found a couple of pipes that needed to be tightened and tightened them. Not only was Greg great but the staff operating the phones were very friendly. They also took the time to explain what the issues were. We were very pleased with their service.

We had called McVay Plumbing to fix a leak into the bathroom when an outside tap was turned on to use a hose. Cody was at our house about 10 minutes before the scheduled time and did a wonderful job of fixing everything to our satisfaction. He also added a shutoff valve. He did the work very efficiently and vacuumed the bathroom floor at the end. It was nice to see him meticulously use shoe covers anytime he was inside the house. I have used McVay Plumbing before to put in my tankless water heater and was very pleased with the quality of work. This week I had a small leak in one of my bathrooms. I called McVay for a non-emergency call and they had someone scheduled the next day. Plumber Ian was on time within the scheduled time given and fixed the leak. I called McVay Plumbing due to an intense sewer gas smell emanating from the inside of my walls.

They sent Ian S. out the next day first thing in the morning to diagnose the problem. He was very professional and considerate of my home as he proceeded to discern the nature of the issue. Eventually, he discovered an old clean out line that was very loosely capped and repaired it. Time will tell if this was the cause of the issue as he cautioned, but if the situation continues, I'm inclined to use this company as I'm a satisfied customer thus far.

First time using McVay Plumbing Heating & Cooling to replace a furnace and a/c at our home. From the initial sales call to the final installation, it was a very professional and great experience. Rocco, our sales rep, assessed what we needed and provided a competitive proposal which we ended up choosing among 2 others that we got. The technicians that came 2 days ago to install (Chalmers, Nate, and Adam) could not have been better. They were on time, extremely neat and respectful of the property, and did their work expediently and professionally. Rocco even stopped by to assure that everything was being done as we had originally discussed ! We are so happy with the way this work was handled, and the new system is working great. Amazing! First the owner came out and used the camera on our downspouts to find our issue. he was great. Originally placed a call to Mister Sewer about a slowly draining/backed up laundry tub. They kindly informed me that my issue would be best handled by their partner company McVAY Plumbing. My realtor suggested McVay for a visual sewer inspection, and I was hesitant due to all the poor reviews on Yelp and Google. But I trusted his recommendation. When they arrived, Nick contacted me several times that day to confirm time and make sure we were ready, they fit me in with less than 24 hours notice, they explained the results of the inspection.

When I asked about the poor reviews I learned that the old owner has moved to Florida and the new owner is keeping both employees and customers happy. I'd recommend trying McVay now that it is under new ownership.

We've had two separate jobs done by McVay including a sewer repair and drain cleaning. Both jobs were done professionally and efficiently, and all the plumbers we've had at our house take the time to explain what they're doing and answer questions. Ian was our plumber for the sewer repair. He was quick to unclog our drains and replace a spigot that was leaking. He was also super knowledgable and cleaned up after himself. Would highly recommend McVay for any plumbing need.

Talking w mike about the sewage problem, he was honest and straight forward. After a major sewage backup on a sat, made arrangements for Monday morning. These guys were diligent. Showed and explained what they were dealing w, and worked great w me. Had a Crew the next day to dig up yard and replace the main lines. After my experience w them, I would call out for all jobs I can't handle. Highly professional, respectful, and good at what they do.

I am very satisfied with the promptness, professionalism and quality of work from this company, especially from Ian and Randy who were the technicians who serviced my home. Water wasn't flowing into the toilet tanks and in one sink. This problem happened overnight. Both men quickly diagnosed the problem due to a faulty shut-off valve underneath the toilets and sink. Within 20 minutes they diagnosed and fixed the problem. The price was very reasonable and I am so grateful for the quick response by McVay plumbing company.

My water heater had a leak and they sent out Mitch to take a look at it. He was happy to speak to my home warranty company and explain the problem in detail. He got to work right away and had it swapped out in no time. Also left the work area spotless, highly recommend!

Jacob and Tre were good at diagnosing the problem with my central air and provided good feedback. I'm taking the next step and replacing my central air unit.

I bought a house in 2019 and soon after found the master bath drainage line was leaking under a slab foundation. Quotes were coming in 15k+ to demo the wall and fix it. I then started investigating trenchless pipe repair as a solution. Out of 3 trenchless pipe companies, these guys were the only ones that even bid the job, due to the complexity. They definitely had challenges completing the job. They returned multiple days (unexpectedly) and ended up wasting materials due to their multiple attempts to get the pipe set properly. The price never changed and 3 years later, no issues. I will most definitely reach out to them in the future for any plumbing related work.

Second time we’ve had to call a plumber since buying our home in March. We weren’t able to go through our home warranty for our water pressure issue and we were worried about pricing. Shelby was able to answer our billing questions immediately and within minutes had an appointment scheduled for Cody to come out to our home. He was on time, professional, reasonable and quick. He even pointed out another area of possible concern we were not previously aware of and offered advice for when we are ready to fix it before it turns into a bigger problem. I’ve used McVay for a number of things, including relining my main sewer pipe from my trap to the main sewer line in the street, unclogging a drain, fixing an out of commission garbage disposal. Today, McVay came to repair an outside spigot that wasn’t working because previous owners weren’t smart enough to turn off the water supply to the outside spigots during the winter and pipes burst.

All in all, they’ve been fair and responsive with me, and I would recommend them. If things change, I’ll update my review!

I had a very stubborn clog that effected my shower and toilet, called McVay to have it taken care of the next day. Mitchell arrived 40 minutes before the expected time frame (greatly appreciated) and was an absolutely pleasure to work with - courteous, honest and very professional. Great employees do great work, and that why I'll always be calling them for service.

I was calling around to find a plumber to fix work that a different plumbing company did for me. When I called McVay Plumbing and told them my issue, a technician named Ben IMMEDIATELY called me back. Because it was an emergency, he had me send him pictures of the problem so that he could show to the Master Plumber (aka Rocco). Ben got back with me with a reasonable estimate, and I was going to get a loan for them to fix the work for me. However, Ben told me that the Master Plumber (aka Rocco) said that I should contact the previous company and demand that they come and remove the work that they improperly did, and to request a FULL refund. Yesterday, I took Rocco's advice and that company called me this morning. They came and fixed the problem that they left me with, FOR FREE! I want to thank Ben and Rocco because most companies wouldn't have given me any advice, especially when I wasn't even a customer yet! Their honesty and integrity tells me that McVay Plumbing cares about the safety and needs of their customers, or potential customers! I would DEFINITELY recommend McVay Plumbing to anyone, and I will only be calling them if I ever need a plumber again! These 2 men lifted a lot of stress off of me and I'm so grateful... He assessed work done by a major kitchen remodeling company that failed to follow county standards, created plumbing issues throughout the house and is coming back to correct the original plumbing installation. My A/C unit was not blowing any cold air and was getting super hot inside the house. Called multiple companies and got no response or delayed reponse. I called McVay up and They came like an hour or so later. Once the technician arrived, they did a deep dive into the unit to find the issue. After about 20 minutes, they found the issue and had it resolved. The tech also informed me about other issues that I may face down the line and what to be prepared for. I cannot stress my gratitude enough for Mike G. and McVay for coming out and getting it fixed. Will be calling them back for sure for any issues I may have.

I had a clog in my garbage disposal that caused a backup in both the kitchen sink and dishwasher. My house is currently under construction as well, so initially it was difficult to figure out what was causing the issue. McVay was easy to schedule with, communicative about when the plumber would be coming, and so polite. Ian did the work at my home. He was polite, friendly, on time. He explained what had happened and showed me how to reset the breaker on my garbage disposal. He wore shoe covers in the home without being asked, he cleaned up after he completed the project, and he spoke directly to me. I know that these may seem odd to mention, but after almost a year of construction and service providers, someone that looks you in the eye, calls you by your name, respects your property and cleans up their workspace is RARE. Really pleased with my experience with McVay. They were prompt and professional, and kept in good contact over the course of the week I worked with them. I had a water in my basement but couldn't figure out why. Greg found the source of the leak, shut off the water and returned to fix it a few days later. (The house a working bathroom and kitchen on a different water line so shutting off another line for a few days was not a problem.) I also found the phone operators/dispatchers to be friendly, clear and helpful. I will continue to use McVay for my plumbing needs.

Great company to work with. I was redoing my kitchen layout and needed to move gas and water lines. Greg came out and gave me a very reasonable quote (I had 3 different companies come out for a bid). I worked with Jamie from scheduling and plumbers Matt & Cody. The job included two separate trips, one for the rough-in of the gas and water lines before cabinets were in place and the second trip to connect the sink, venting, etc. They were on time and didn't mind answering any questions I had. I will certainly be using them again in the future.

After another plumber backed out at the last minute to fix our sewer pipe one day before closing on our home, McVay came to the rescue. They fixed the sewer pipe after hours for an extremely reasonable price enabling us to pass inspection and close on time! What a group, rare to find this level of service in Pittsburgh.

Oct 16 Update: Unfortunately, when I went to use my lovely new toilet Thur night, it turned out the fill valve was malfunctioning and the toilet was running. I called McVay Friday morning and Mitch came out Friday afternoon and replaced the fill valve. Again he was very nice and did an excellent job!
Oct 20 Update: Unfortunately, it turned out the fill valve Mitch put in the toilet on Friday was defective. I noticed the water running in the toilet Saturday afternoon. My neighbor came over and confirmed this for me. I called McVay again on Monday morning. I was busy Monday and Tuesday (and was able to turn the water off at the valve at the side of the toilet), so they sent Greg out Wednesday morning! Greg was super nice and really knew what he was doing. He replaced the fill valve with a new one and it seems to be working just fine now! I was very happy that McVay was able to send Mitch and Greg out so quickly to get the problem taken care of as soon as possible. They are a good group and I will be using them again for other plumbing issues that may come up! Thank you Greg and Mitch!

This company is worthless.

I called on a Tuesday for an estimate to get my sewer line fixed to the main and they informed me they would pass it along to the owner who would go out and do it. No word from them and I call back Thursday and I get the same they will pass it along. Owner calls me Thursday saying he will call me when he is out my way and he can swing by then. I inform him that I can't be there as I do not currently live in the house, but there is an access to the line in my driveway.

He goes out Saturday morning and doesn't bring the wrench to access the recessed pipe! He says he will have to come back Monday to get access to it. Monday comes and goes and no word from him. I call him Tuesday and he says he hasn't been able to get back out that he can't make it until Saturday. I inform him I already had another estimate and I need to have a contract with someone by next week to be able to close on my house. He says he will go out right away. He call me that night and gives me a rough estimate. I say that's fine, fax me the estimate and we will go from there. He says he will do that at 6am on Wednesday.

9 am on Wednesday and I still have no estimate I call to inquire and the secretary says she will fax it out to me right away. Secretary calls me back Wednesday afternoon and says bad news she couldn't find anything on the estimate and that she called the owner to see what was going on and he said he has too many things going on and will not be able to the work on my sewer.

I had to constantly be on them about everything they said they would do and even then, in the end they did not deliver what they said they would.

Mike McVay, the owner, very critical of other plumbing companies that had done work on my lot but in the end was worse than any other company I could have wasted my time on. The secretary that I spoke to was short and not very courteous.

I would not recommend this company to anybody as they were a nightmare to deal with.

I thought I would give a shout out to service technician Kevin who did a very thorough install of a water line for us.

We have owned our 1947 home for 10 years and our bathroom sink has been sporadically slow for all of them. We have had plumbers in that either temporarily resolved the issue, came up with a solution that didn’t make sense (and rather expensive), or offered to knock down a wall (disruptive and expensive).
I happened to come into contact with McVay through a friend who lauded his experiences. So when it clogged again, there was only one option to try.
The office is congenial and engaging and put us into an appointment that worked well. Communication from confirming the time in the morning through the actual arrival was outstanding!
Upon arrival, the technician was friendly and asked about masking. As he was going to be solo and we’ve been vaccinated fully, wasn’t a concern.
Went right up with my wife and asked her questions as to the problem’s history and what her thoughts were. With that he went right to work.
20 minutes and 15-20 feet later he found the equivalent of a cat causing the problem! Water everywhere (as to be expected in unclogging a pipe that long) though he contained it and left the area immaculate and dry!
He even adjusted the handle on our toilet!
Has never drained faster and it’s been over a week! We are ready for the holidays with family and friends.
While cost of service is important, not being charged for needless repairs is more so! Add to that the punctual and professional service and we have found an outstanding support team for our plumbing needs!

We had 5 plumbing companies give us quotes on replacing our sewer line. Some didn’t even attempt to sewer cam it, most stopped at the roots without being able to get a sewer cam all the way through first. All the other quotes ranged from $50k-$100k and would be practically a major public works project I’d have to lien my neighbors houses to pay for, but Mr Sewer/McVay cleaned out the roots and lined it with only one hole in the basement and did it all for under $10k. When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail, but we didn’t need a battleship to cross a river. Thank you Mr Sewer and McVay for your broader toolbox and surgical precision. It was the difference between laparoscopic and open heart surgery, except it would have been open sewer, open yard, open sidewalk, open street surgery.
