I woke up to no heat. An appointment made for noon, the same day. Alan showed up, quickly identified the problem and re-established heat. Because my furnace is over 20 years old, Alan suggested I might want to get a quote for a new furnace. Fifty percent of my repair charge would be applied to purchase of a new unit. This is the second time I’ve used Vern & Ellsworth Hann. Both experiences were flawless from my initial call to completion of the project. Here we are, a couple weeks since my last review. Verne and Ellsworth Hann just replaced my gas furnace and gas water heater. Notch another 5 star review in the books!! Once again everything about this project was flawless. Communication is helpful and timely. I wish I could remember the names of everyone in the office, who helped me. They all have been wonderful. Karen, Nancy and Patricia I believe.

My Project Manager, Kevin, was perfect to work with. He presented me with several options while clearly explaining pros, cons and costs of each. He followed up, 30 minutes after the job was done, to make sure we were happy. Our installers, Barry and Jayson were great, The made sure we were without heat and hot water for a minimal amount of time. They kept us informed during all aspects of the installation. The explained everything they did upon completion of the job and patiently fielded our questions. But best of all, they threw the ball for our dog every time the had to go to their truck.

We have used Verne & Ellsworth Hann for 25 years for yearly tune ups and repairs. We would trust no one else. Three years ago they installed an air conditioning system in our old, large Shaker Heights home. They did a fantastic job. Other companies who install AC in these old homes will tell you that they can only put duct work to the 2nd floor. Verne & Ellsworth Hann was able to snake the air conditioning ducts down into almost all of our 1st floor rooms. Their workers were professional, neat and efficient and we love the new system. This past fall upon our annual boiler inspection, the technician found that we had a crack in our 20+ year old boiler. He was able to remove some heating units to nurse it along until we could schedule a new boiler installation. This was completed in December (including running new return lines and asbestos removal). Again, the work was all completed professionally, efficiently and neatly. I always recommend Verne & Ellsworth Hann to my friends. I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation.

Verne & Ellsworth Hann was quick to respond and install a new boiler and thermostat in our home. They cleaned up after themselves, provided an excellent boiler, answered questions, and checked up on their work. We are very pleased with their provided service.

Straight forward pricing and quick to diagnose then fix the issue I had with my furnace. They gave me a 4 hour window for when the technician would show and called me about 15 minutes prior to them arriving. It was $90 base charge for the service and $24 every 15 minutes. In and out in an hour and a half. The technician explained everything that he was doing to troubleshoot the issue while I watched. Will definitely be using them in the future!

From the very first contact Verne & Ellsworth Hann, Inc (VEH) was incredibly responsive and professional! During a heat wave, my A/C system came to the end of its life. They were out the very next morning to check things out, and I had an estimate with four different options within hours. Because I was without A/C, VEH also rearranged their schedule, so that my new system could be installed in days. The whole process from start to finish took less than a week which is practically unheard today. I highly recommend VEH for their service, quality, and customer satisfaction.

From start to finish, our experience with Verne & Ellsworth Hann has been five star worthy. We were in need of both an AC and furnace replacement, and after receiving estimates from multiple businesses, we knew we wanted to trust Verne & Ellsworth. Tim was wonderful to work with during the proposal stage of the process. He took the time to answer all of our questions, and he was extremely knowledgeable about the installation process and equipment. We appreciated that his expertise went beyond just sales! Tony, the project manager, was wonderful enough to contact me as soon as an opening was available so that we could get the equipment installed sooner than initially scheduled. Phenomenal experience! Not only were they able to get out to perform a service call on the same day, but the process was quick, painless, and well communicated. Gilbert was a very knowledgeable technician and gave great advice for future maintenance as well. Had a clogged HVAC drain before the call, no issues and running better than before two days later. We've used V&EH for over a decade now, since we purchased our home in 2007. Their technicians are nice and professional, service is good, and prices are reasonable. They've replaced our hot water heater, and central A/C unit, and our heater, and all have worked well. We use them annually for service as well. No complaints at all.

Jimmy provided outstanding service for my Quarter Bend Drain Repair up to 3', which included breakup and removal of cement and re-covering with cement after pipe has been repaired/replaced.

V & E Hann should be proud of Jimmy's work and professionalism, and I am so proud to see our young people working in a trade and with so much passion about getting the job done right. This was a huge job from 9:00am to 3:00pm. He explained to me what he was doing and then gave me a tour of the completed work. He cleaned the area after the work in the kitchen and basement. Verne and Ellsworth Hann are definitely worth checking out. My furnace died, and my AC was very old. Working with Chris was a pleasant and straightforward person to work with. He immediately realized that the unit was too big and to reduce the cost of gas and electricity, he suggested going for a smaller size. I anticipated it would take some time, however they were able to schedule the installation quickly. The installation crew was outstanding, diligent, and professional, arrived on time, communicated well (to me that is a plus). Every time I went to check on their progress during the day, I was amazed by how much they were accomplishing. They would also ask if I had any other questions. Nothing was left behind when they left but a brand-new heating and cooling system and a very content customer.

We recently moved to the east side and needed a new HVAC company to service our house. These guys came highly recommended via multiple family members. We’ve had them out to our house a couple of times now for basic system maintenance, to troubleshoot issues with our AC, and to ultimately do a full system replacement. Every team member we’ve interacted with has been professional, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. The team worked hard to get our new AC up and running in one day due to the 85-degree temps outside. They even pointed out an issue with the venting on our water tank that was missed during the home inspection. Fixing that will probably get us a couple of extra years out of the tank as a result. One of the best service companies we’ve ever worked with.

Furnace stopped working; extreme cold spell expected. Requested service online Sunday evening; received a phone call first thing Monday morning; service person arrived later than morning. Diagnosed issue, drove to get part, came back in an hour and installed it. All working now. Excellent service.

Verne & Ellsworth Hann performed a complete HVAC removal and reinstallation of our system. The service personnel were professional, knowledgable, and conscientious of our home. They were kind enough to get to know our pets and make notes about whether or not they were allowed in and outside. Barry and Jayson answered all of my questions and stayed until I was satisfied with the work. Jayson even went so far as to ensure that my climbing vines growing on the fence surrounding the outdoor compressors remained undisturbed during the replacement process. I consider this type of service above and beyond. Verne & Ellsworth Hann are not an expensive company, but the service provided and the quality of the materials installed make the price differential worth it. Our home is now comfortable.

I have used VEH for several maintenance issues in prior years. Last summer they advised me that I should think about getting a new AC unit for 2017 as my old was not efficient and had a leak that was costly to repair. I decided to take their advice and get some quotes at the end of winter 2017. Chris met me at the house for a quote on a Friday evening outside of normal business hours. He was professional, friendly, and provided me a few options for AC. He answered my follow up questions via email very quickly, and although they were not the cheapest quote I still chose them for the job based upon my confidence in their ability to do the job and back it up in the future. Chris applied zero pressure in his sales pitch. He installed the unit in one day, better than his promised expectation of a day and a half. They were clean, respectful, and came in at the quoted price.

The team completed the installation of an AC/Heating unit in our TV room in 1.5 days. Excellant workmanship and very conscientious of our home during their time here.

During an extremely cold week our old boiler finally gave out. After quotes from 3 companies, we decided to go with VEH because they did the best job of explaining our options and they had the best price. More importantly, they had the best price because they matched the size of the boiler to what we actually needed. (The other 2 companies acknowledged, after some prodding, that they had priced a boiler that was about 25% too large, because the line they represented didn't have a boiler that matched the size we actually needed.)

When Bill Hann, one of the owners, was at our house to do a full review and plan for the specifics, my 11 year old son spent the hour following him around asking a million questions. (He literally asked about 50 questions, everything from how the vents on the end of the radiators worked, to what happened to the steam that turned back into water, to how long the new boiler would last.) Bill took the time to answer all of them; I'm guessing my son now knows more about steam heating systems than any middle schooler in Northeast Ohio! What I appreciated was the reason by behind Bill taking the time to answer the questions. He has a genuine passion for his work that comes through in how well he explains what is going on, what your options are, and why he is recommending what he is recommending. I'm the sort of person who likes to know the details of what choices I'm making, but even if you are the sort of person who just wants the expert to make the decisions, it is good to know the expert has put some thought into his recommendations.

During the several days that it took to get the work done, VEH loaned us some space heaters to keep the edge off the cold in the house. While they were doing the work, they coordinated their people and the subcontractors (asbestos mitigation) efficiently. The work got done quickly and will minimal disruption. And when Bill came to do the final walk through and orient us to the system and emergency power backup, he brought a VEH hard hat for my son!

The next summer, we decided to renovate our kitchen and picked VEH to do the realignment of the radiators because of our experience with them. As we were walking through the basement and discussing what needed to be done, Bill pointed out the extra T-valve they had installed when they put in the new boiler. Having this T-valve already installed, a part that cost a couple of dollars up front, saved us several hundred dollars because it meant they didn't have to cut into the existing pipe in order to get access. When I asked Bill why he had thought to put it in originally, he said they always did it because boilers last so long (30 years, 50 years, sometimes longer) that there is a high likelihood that the homeowner (or a subsequent homeowner) is going to need it. Bill talked about going into old homes where someone had installed a T-valve 30, 40, 50 years ago and thinking about the person who had done that originally and admiring their foresight, kind of like how you look at an oak tree and appreciate the person who had the foresight to plant it decades before. And that he wanted to leave that sort of legacy. I joked to him that this was one instance where he was going to get to eat his own cooking.

If you are installing a boiler, you are probably installing it in an old home. And old homes last in ways new homes won't. Part of what is special about an old home is the connection you have to families that lived there decades before you and that will live there decades after you. If you want the work done right for a fair price, I highly recommend VEH. They care about the work they do and the legacy they are leaving behind in your house.

I should mention that Bill and VEH had previously quoted installing A/C for us. We ended up not doing the project and I felt bad about having had them spend time working up a quote. However, at our first meeting about the boiler, Bill mentioned he remembered doing the quote and that it would be easy to update when we wanted to move forward. His graciousness put me at ease.

Two staff, John and Brian, in one week installed two furnaces and a water heater. Their work is excellent; their demeanor is professional. Verne and Ellsworth Hann, Inc installed the original furnace in this house two decades ago. Chris Hann remembered the original job. We give VEH a 5/5 star rating.

I used VEH to replace the boiler in my home. Bill (the owner) was extremely helpful and professional. The installation went very smoothly and all the workers were friendly and prompt. The work was quality craftsmanship and they addressed every issue I had. I have used them for other plumbing jobs since and would recommend VEH to anyone. I will definitely be using them again for any work that I need done in the future.

We first hired Verne and Ellsworth Hann about 10 years ago in our 1917 center hall Colonial to fix our cold main floor and swelteringly hot upstairs. They removed the old boiler and the redundant asbestos covered octopus boiler. Then they split the house into upper and lower zones with two smaller boilers. Then we added whole house air conditioning. This became the most comfortable house I have ever lived in!

Several years later, we moved into a larger 1917 Tudor and hired Verne and Ellsworth Hann again to add air conditioning to the main floor. Our friends now love to come over in the hot, humid days of summer to cool off.

Finally, when two other companies (referred from our home warranty program) could not solve the water hammer noises coming from our steam heat system, we called VE Hann again. They quickly identified the problem, changed out and re-plumbed several clogged return pipes, and the loud noises were gone.

Their initial quote might seem a little high at first, but they'll take care of the job properly and follow through on work. In the long run, you'll save more money getting it right the first time. They'll keep your house clean and you'll feel comfortable having their polite team in your home.

These guys have bailed me out of a jam more than once. We've used them for new ductwork, a new water heater, and most recently a new furnace and a/c. All in older homes where passing a Point of Sale inspection is a must (and they do with flying colors). They are professional, down-to-earth, and their price is always better than the competitors. Chris is easy to work with and never engages in high pressure sales tactics like some other big-name local HVAC companies. He explains the problem, lays out options, and gives his guidance on the best route to take. I still feel like I am making the decision after being educated versus being pushed into an over-priced solution or a scam of a service-plan. I love that I can trust VE&H and will continue using them for all things HVAC.

As well as doing high quality work, they were on time, worked all day, were polite, professional and tidy. They gave clear instructions for maintaining the system (filters etc). Absolutely terrific company! The job was massive and the crew was timely and courteous and always on task. VEH installed AC in our older home in Cleveland Heights. Their work was amazing. VEH expertly planned the project to minimize disruption from the new duct work. The project moved forward professionally and on time. At the end of each day the crew left our home clean and kept us informed of what would happen the next day. The new system works great. VEH has come back to tweak the cooling to even out the zones. Bill provided excellent guidance in choosing the right system. Plumbing service: We had them replace three valves in our copper pipes. It was done exceptionally well, professionally and they were on time in arrival and completed work in less than the allotted time. Price was competitive. We would definitely recommend their plumbing service and will use them in the future.

I have never experienced such care in a contractor's work. I got multiple estimates and they were in the middle. I never pick the low bidder because they usually disappoint you. Also got a recommendation from a friend which helped in my decision between the middle bidders. I must say that I was not disappointed in any way. They showed up promptly, covered the path in my home to move the equipment in and out and did a fabulous job. Even after installing the AC unit on the side of the house on a rainy day, when all was said and done, there was no evidence in my home that there were even here except I have a new HVAC system running quietly on my basement.

V&E Hann did a fantastic job with our installation. A previous owner had pulled out all the cold air return ductwork in our utility room because it was blocking the laundry area. Obviously this is not up to code, so a big part of the installation was adding that back in. They were super careful to check in with us about the ductwork and our laundry area as they did the work and came up with a system that barely takes up any more room than not having the ductwork did. They also removed our cement utility sink and installed a new one and cleaned up and improved the awkward drain system that had previously been there. We have had a chance to use both AC and heat since it is a Cleveland fall and both are working perfectly. The AC unit is shockingly quiet, quieter than our neighbors’ relatively new units, and much much quieter than our 30+ year old monster was. It sounds like a big fan. We did find a small leak in the pipe that drains condensation from the furnace but they came out within days and fixed it up. They really are fantastic to work with!

The installers were super friendly, clean, and professional. We have an older house so there were a lot of things to figure out and decisions to make when installing A/C, and we always felt we understood all the steps happening and options available.

For having so many people all over the house for such an extended period (3 weeks), it all felt very easy. We also appreciated the incredibly consistent 8-4 schedule every day - that was so helpful in managing our dogs and everything else.

Bill and his team did an excellent job getting me a new steam boiler in an emergency situation. Everyone was very punctual and knowledgeable. Aside from the new boiler, their radiator vent work did wonders to finally getting my home-wide heating efficiency and balance perfect.

They laid down carpet protectors, cleaned thoroughly each day, and were considerate of our very skittish cat that was none too pleased to have outsiders in her home.

I've had Verne & Ellsworth service my boiler for years. Recently I had them put in a heating/cooling system in my family room and kitchen since my 30+ year old electric baseboard heaters decided to die all at once. They explained all my options before putting in the system. I love it!

The company has done four reasonable size jobs for our home - water tank, new furnace, new AC, and a general plumbing fix after a water main break. Quality was great and the crew was always professional. Unless something changes, they'll be our first call for HVAC and plumbing needs.

Our boiler completely died while we were on vacation in January. As soon as we got back home, VEH was very quick to assess the situation. They were able to secure (2) new smaller boilers and promptly scheduled the installation when the boilers arrived. The installation crew was great!

Second experience with these folks, neither have been great. The technician showed up and was professional. He respected the social distancing in place at the time of this review and wore booties on his shoes when entering the home.

The service call was $98 to walk through the door, seems steep, but I knew that going in. The issues with our boiler was diagnosed to be leak in the quarter turn valve (which I suspected initially). The cost to repair was $350 + the $98 diagnostic (not rolled into the cost of repair as many companies do).

The cost for the valve install was around $250 higher than any other company I've worked with int he past. I was quoted between $75 and $100 from three other plumbers for this work.

In short: They'll show up right on time and over charge you.

Verne & Ellsworth performed an excellent job of installing our new furnace, air conditioner and water heater. Of the four companies I met with, Chris seemed the most knowledgable and transparent. He offered and provided a detailed quote in writing, unlike the others. He didn't take up two hours of my time with a hollow sales pitch. His personal supervision was an appreciated bonus.

My hot water tank failed on a weekend evening, and they were able to help me over the phone on the evening it occurred, with help of pictures they had of my set-up (benefits of a long-standing relationship), and then add that repair to the appointment I already had scheduled for HVAC tune-up the following Monday. On Tuesday, it was all done. They had to replace the tank, but saved expense of replacing the still new concentrator.

I mean, I cannot even tell you how grateful we are for VEH. They replaced our HVAC / Air Cond systems a few years ago and were wonderful. When we found water in our basement, we gave them a call and again, they exceeded our expectations. They came right away, they communicated the whole way through, they fixed the issue... And when a second issue popped up just before we were leaving for out of town, they stepped in and helped us again. I really find this company to be a gem. I have lived in a house with a boiler and no air conditioning for 27 years. It is a great option when you have a child with Asthma. Empty nesters now, we decided to see if we could reasonably cool the house. We did the right thing and had other HVAC companies come in for ideas and estimates. While it was clear why they thought the ductless system was the best solution, I did not want that big thing on the walls of my cute little house. I reached out to Bill of Verne & Ellsworth Hann. He heard me when I described what I did NOT want. After a thorough evaluation of our home, he explained in detail what he could do that would work within our budget. It is pretty amazing what they designed to put in the house to accomplish the goal. I received a full education on how to operate and care for the system. Secretly, I did not care how it worked but I listened since I could do it in an air conditioned room. The guys were on time, friendly and considerate. They are neat and cleaned up after the work was done.They left it in better shape than they found it.

Please note: We love Bill Hahn and his team.A few years ago we had a boiler replaced by Verne & Ellsworth Hann. I can't say enough about how positive that experience was. We try to stay with a rule of 3 estimates for something this big. From the beginning we had no doubt that Bill would come up with a creative solution for this problem.And he did.

$45 OEM control switch cost me $129 (price of their universal switch) + $260 for a total of 1.5 hours = $390. I think I was charged about double what it should have cost.

The entire experience was great. Would have been easier on me if the boiler hadn’t been replaced on such a cold day- got to 48° in my kitchen, but once the new system was completed it was toasty warm in no time. I had a new AC and heat pump installed last week. This company is top notch. Starting with Kevin Krejci, project manager, and following with installers Greg, Shawn and Shawn, - all deserve a highest mark for diligence, great quality, exceptional customer service and tidiness. Kevin worked with me to have the option that suited me, always called me back when i had questions. There is no such thing as a prefect installation. And this one was no exception. Given the fact that the houses in The Heights are always unique to themselves. There were a few minor hiccups but I was never concerned about their ability for the solution that was discussed.

Our furnace died right before a snow storm was to hit. I called Verne and Ellsworth Hann and they sent one of the owners personally out to look at our furnace and work with us. He said they could replace it the next day and worked with us on payment options. The guys came the next day and installed the new furnace faster than I expected. Everything seems to have been done very well and efficiently and we were definitely very happy to have a warm house for the snowstorm!

Just wanted to say how impressed (but not surprised) by Verne & Ellworth Hann's work. Part of me doesn’t want to plaster the walls because the copper lines look so pretty. The lines were run perfectly parallel; every joint was neatly done; the house was cleaner when the crew left than when they arrived. Even though their work is hidden in the final product, the pride and skill shown tells me the crews are true craftsmen.

Also, when they were done, out of curiosity I asked them to walk me through what was done. Even though it was the end of the day, they took the time to explain everything and answer all my questions.

Needing a new furnace can be a scary situation financially. But when you go with a family owned compant like Verne & Ellsworth Hann your worries can be put at ease. They have wells Fargo financing. They give you many options to choose from to find which furnace and price is right for your finances and house. The salesman Saul was knowledgeable and kind. The installers quick and clean. Thanks to the team we are enjoying a new furnace that is cost efficient to operate. I recommend them!

They were upfront with their pricing--$90 to come to the door and then $24 per 15 minutes thereafter, but we later learned that a competent plumber could have diagnosed the problem from our phone description and given us an estimate for a replacement water heater over the phone. So we paid $90 for an estimate--not credited against any work--for a replacement traditional water heater that we do not want and some additional incorrect code information and disparagement of tankless heaters--our preferred replacement-- that they will not install. Oh, and the diagnosis of the noises the boiler was still making was wrong and no advice on dealing with the leaking water was offered.

VEH has become a trusted partner in the maintenance and renovation of our century-old heights home. They have serviced our boiler, moved pipes, rebuilt radiator connections, and even installed ductwork for a future central air (AC) system that we hope to proceed with next Spring. While the nature of this work is usually very expensive we always get the sense that VEH is providing the most competitive price they can. We consider them a trusted advisor and preferred vendor at this point and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

We replaced our furnace/AC, updated our thermostat and replaced our water heater. It was an overall fantastic experience with Barry and Jayson; they showed up exactly when they said they would, worked steadily through both days, made sure we knew where they were on the installation frequently, cleaned upat the end of each day and at the end of the install and throughout were always polite and cheerful. This is the company you want if you want a professional job done right.

They were prompt and able to get my furnace running, however I felt they were very expensive. The tech was in my house about 30 minutes and installed a $20 part. Total bill was just over $400. I know costs have risen but this seemed extreme to me.

Service right on time, 800 am. Boiler check and regular service. Completed in less than an hour, very smooth, all good. Appreciate the solid service. Joe is great!

I usually do not write reviews, but I must say that after the experience I had with Verne & Ellsworth Hann, the least I can do is let others know about it. It is never good news to hear that your furnace is beyond repair. I had been a participant in a home insurance program where I thought they would always send a company out to fix it no matter what. Of course on the coldest day of 2017 I was told that it could no longer be fixed. The company that came out left some numbers on a piece of paper and told me to call to set up an appointment for a future install. I called another company - same thing, just numbers and a weak promise that they may be able to come out later in the month.

When I called the Hanns, the process was completely different. They cared about making sure I understood what my options were. I was given a detailed explanation on three different price levels for a furnace and an air conditioner. I had questions. They had answers. It was an actual conversation where I did not feel at all that I was being pushed toward the highest priced option. I was told about things that could be added on, but again no pressure. Potential complications related to my ducting were explained. I actually felt like I knew something about HVAC after talking to Bill Hann several times.

Best of all, they were in a hurry to get the equipment put in my home after I decided to go with them. From the point of my first phone call to the final installation only one week had gone by. I recently had my entire kitchen and basement redone and never thought that work of this magnitude could get done in one week. The crew that came into my house was kind and considerate from the first day. Drop cloths went everywhere. They made sure I understood what they had to do and where things would go. My daughter was home sick and didn't wake up once. The new features were explained in detail. A complimentary service plan was given.

Verne and Ellsworth came to our house to correct a leaking boiler. A different vendor had tied our existing boiler into a floor heating system and the system leaked during the first winter. I don't remember the name of the person who was here, but they quickly identified what the issue was (something about not enough room for the pressure of the added system). They installed an additional expansion tank and the replaced some small parts that rusted.

It's a comfort to work with a company that I can trust! The work was completed quickly and within budget.

I have never written a review before but felt the need to share my first-rate experience with Verne & Ellsworth Hann, Inc. They recently replaced our furnace and air conditioner and their staff and technicians were professional and extremely helpful. Our air conditioner is located in a unique spot with size and noise constraints and the company worked with us to find the perfect fit for our situation. The company worked around our schedule and their workmanship was outstanding. They came on time and the technicians were friendly and respectful of our home. They went above and beyond to accommodate our space needs and preferences. If you are thinking of replacing your furnace or air conditioner I would highly recommend this company!

We called multiple companies to look at our century home which never had air conditioning or ductwork. Most never called back, the few that did were exorbitant in pricing and unsure if they could figure out how to run ducts. Bill Hann came out promptly, was friendly, and very professional. He knew what to do before even setting foot into our home with just a few questions. Bill and his team (Jason, Todd, Kevin and others) have installed two A/C furnace systems and the duct work for our house in April. We are so pleased with the work process and the result. The work was done in a timely fashion. They were on time every single day. The communication was also very effective. They are professional, kind and polite. Even our neighbors commented how polite they are. It has been about 3 months since we had the systems. We used heat mode a bit at the end of the April and use cool mode these days. guy came over looked at the boiler and started selling - repair this and that , lets do that etc - without even proper inspection. he offered to change the tube part for $ 40 but I decline because he just came to the house. I would have him do the repairs after doing some diagnosis to keep the boiler in shape. After he was done with the vacuum, it was pay time right. he send me this email about the inspection and there's one there that said instructed customer to flush the water lol -- IT NEVER HAPPENED.

I worked with Bill to solve a long-standing issue in that the east wing of the 2nd floor was not being heated and cooled satisfactorily. A major renovation years earlier went well except for the HVAC redesign. I got 4 quotes to fix my problem and got 4 different solutions... all around the same cost but very different in approach and equipment. Bill's was on the mark (without writing a short story, I can confirm his was the the best solution). I am extremely satisfied with the work and result. I have used many different HVAC contractors over the past 20 years and none come close to the knowledge, skill and work ethic of Verne & Ellsworth Hann, but especially Bill Hann.

Bryan and Joe replaced a worn-out antique sewer backflow preventer cemented under the basement floor and installed clean outs.

I live on the second floor of a condo and had an AC issue where the wiring to my roof condenser unit (3 floors above me) didn’t turn on because a kitchen remodeler ripped the wiring out between my thermostat, air handler and roof unit. I didn’t know it until the cooling season started and the kitchen was already remodeled. Verne & Ellsworth Hann was able to figure out a work-around that didn’t require a costly demo to get into the area where the wires were ripped out. The company employees and technicians put their heads together and Ray and Allan, the technicians, installed a wireless transmitter that “talked” to all the units. . . The roof unit, the condo unit and the thermostat! I had AC again and was so relieved I didn’t have to tear out ceilings, trace wires, etc. I’m happy with the work performed and highly recommend Verne & Ellsworth Hann. They saved the day!

We are a church with an aging boiler and old furnaces. We also have a preschool with infants so it is essential that we receive prompt service when the heat goes out. V&E Hann has always arrived within 1.5 - 2 hours of our call and they have always been able to resolve the problem promptly and within our budget.

We have had issues with plumbing in the past, and most recently with a water pressure valve. Bryan was very professional and explained exactly what was needed. Verne & Ellsworth Hann is amazing. I had them put in a new boiler 2 years ago and install a/c in my 1923 home which was not a small job. I worked with Bill the owner who goes above and beyond for his clients. All of the technicians that entered our home were on time, professional, and kind. They lay down carpets to protect your flooring and clean up everything when they are done. I would definitely recommend them.

I had a furnace installed last year, and recently reached out to Chris Hann regarding follow up services that I thought were included with the purchase. He confirmed via email that I was correct, but when I tried to schedule the service, I was told it was not included. I mentioned that Chris had clearly confirmed it via email, and then got a voicemail back from him talking to me like I was an idiot for expecting him to follow through on what he agreed to via email. Apparently he misread my email, but instead of simply saying that he misread it and gave me incorrect info, he got a VERY nasty attitude and told me to go elsewhere for services - so that is what I will be doing, and suggest others do as well.
When I submitted this complaint to them, Chris wrote back a largely inaccurate response trying to defend himself, which made me even more aware of the lack of professionalism from this company. Now I understand why I saw so many other reviews calling them rude.

Recently I had to replace the steam / boiler type furnace in my house. For such a big investment, I decided to get three quotes. The third company that came to inspect the furnace was Verne & Ellsworth Hann Inc. They are in my neighborhood, and I like to support locally owned and operated businesses. I was initially very impressed that one of the co-owners, Bill Hann, showed up to inspect my furnace and quote the job. My first impression changed pretty dramatically soon after. He was not friendly at all, and certainly didn't have the demeanor you'd expect from someone trying to sell you a very expensive product and service. When I told him I was getting other quotes things went from bad to worse. He proceeded to get very aggressive and downright rude with his attitude and questions. He insisted that his was the only company in the area that could do this type of job properly. He asked how much I had been quoted, and when I mentioned one of the quotes I had received, he scoffed and said there was no way the job would be done properly for that amount. He then proceeded to ask aggressive questions about what they would or wouldn't be doing as part of the job. I am not a timid person, and I felt like I was involved in an argument simply to get a quote. I felt like I was being attacked, and like my intelligence was being insulted. At one point I nearly asked him to leave my house he was being so rude, but by that point I wanted to at least see what price they would quote, since according to him hiring any other company would be a disaster! When he left he promised to get me a quote right away. I'm still waiting for that quote, which apparently he decided not to submit. I hired another company to do the job, and have been very happy with my new furnace. I certainly never expected to be treated so poorly by a 4th generation family owned business. Apparently the previous generations knew a lot more about customer service than the current one!

Woke up this morning with no heat so I started calling around and I spoke to representative and they said that they would send out a page to the technician and no one ever came or called. So I called someone else and I was able to get the services of smiley heating and cooling and they save my family from being frozen.

The technician that came to work on my AC unit was extremely professional. He wore booties and mask, didn't mind answering any questions and gave honest answers.

I had a really positive experience with Verne & Ellsworth Hann. We used them because our neighbors also had a good experience. From the moment I talked to Chris, he said he'd be happy to address my problem and would do it fairly. (We had gotten an estimate from another company first who wanted to charge us a ton more unnecessarily). One-day install, everything works great, employees were respectful and friendly, no complaints at all, they even took the old giant expansion tank out of the ceiling, which went beyond my expectations. Furnace stopped working on holiday. Called and message sent to on-call tech who returned call quickly. Discussed options and cost and chose delaying work until next regular day. Tech told scheduler about situation and was sent out first thing and brought probable repair parts with him. Heat on quickly. Tech then repaired problem that would be issue in future. I ran into Kevin on another job and got to talking about adding ac to my house and he was quick and very responsive to my question and getting me a quote and installing ac was quick as well! Very happy with Kevin and all the guys doing the install at this company!!

Repaired a leaking radiator

We utilized Verne & Ellsworth for our AC and tankless water heater installs, as well as a garbage disposal and reworking some plumbing. They were professional and responsive to all our needs. They scheduled all the work to happen in 2 days and we were nervous about having that many people in the house. The employees were all very efficient and incredibly respectful. They took care to place mats, wear protective shoes, and clean up everything they handled. We could not be more happy with all the assistance we received and will be getting their assistance with any HVAC/Plumbing services going forward. We would certainly recommend them to anyone looking for asstance!

They installed a new sump pump. All was good.

Really got us out of a bind. Completely replaced all of the plumbing - supply, drains, and waste - in one of our bathrooms. The shower had been leaking and was unusable, the pipes were 100 years old and half rotten. They were done in just over 2 days, worked in incredibly small access spaces, and installed our new in wall faucet for us even though the job only quoted roughing in the plumbing for the sink. The guys that came were very like-able, honest, clean, and kind.

V&E Hann installed a commercial boiler to heat our Shaker Heights home several years ago, so when we wanted to update our HVAC system, we called Bill Hann. We started planning the project in late fall 2019, and his team worked at our home daily for three weeks during February/March 2020 to install a new zoned AC system utilizing the latest technology from Bryant.

The coolant was loaded last week, and the system was fine-tuned just in time for warmer temps. Today with outdoor temps at 83F and very humid, the house is nice and cool throughout. Importantly, the Bryant system is so quiet! As we sat on the patio, we couldn’t even hear the sound of the compressor from behind the house.

Pandemic 2020 has brought both of our adult children back to Cleveland, so we’re using bedrooms throughout the house, including those on the third floor, and I’m happy to report that the temps up there are just as comfortable as on the first and second floors of the house. The touchpad controls are easy to use and offer additional features (add app to iPhone, etc.)

It was important to examine the differences in the Unico and conventional systems, and Bill arranged with his customers to allow us the opportunity to see for ourselves how they operated. This was enormously helpful in our decision-making as Bill helped us select the best system for our home. V&E Hann have a great crew of professionals who worked diligently to minimize disruption and maximize efficiency.

This was a big job (40+ year old (280,000 BTU) boiler with 7 zone valves, replaced in the middle of January), and yet the replacement went incredibly smoothly and with minimal interruptions to my daily routine. We hired V&E Hann to replace our 80+ year old boiler last November. We are very pleased with their work.

1. Before providing a quote, Bill Hahn spent the time to answer all of our questions (I had a lot of questions).

2. On the day of the installation the crew covered our stairs and our basement floor to contain the mess while extracting the old boiler. The crew also covered their boots before walking into our home.

4. The crew was knowledgeable, courteous and kind. If I had a question, they spent time answering it.

5. After the installation they returned several times to check up on the boiler during the break in period even switching out radiator vents where needed to even out the heat distribution in our home.

Mixed and generally a disappointment. I called them because they were local and 4th generation, which I respect, and seemed very credible to me. However, with my past history as an exec with a 700+ truck service co myself, and being a tech/dispatch trainer, it was surprising to me that they would quote for a svc call + qtr hourly + parts and then bill me (per my own calculations) for time they waited at my home for quotes on parts from their office. I felt it was not professional to not itemize the bill as they quoted on the phone.

I was then quoted $489 addl to replace a blower motor, again with no written quote left and wondering how much I'd be charged for the travel time it would take for their tech to go and pick up the motor he said he had to do. Why not use a supplier that delivers to them and save their customers this cost? To charge a customer $100+/- hourly to pick up a motor locally seems like suspiciously bad service policy to me. If my cleaning company charged our customers to pick up a gallon of shampoo, we would be out of business. I went online and found a blower motor locally and since I've replaced those before in half an hour, was happy to pick one up and install it myself for around $100.

On the positive side, the tech was good and they were courteous about allowing me to postdate a check until I could get money moved to my checking account. In a bind I'd use them again, but feel they could tighten up their phone response to sound more friendly and more closely match their pricing and invoicing policies to what they actually tell the consumer at the initial phone call.

The tech tech was very professional. He was able to come a day early for the furnace tune-up. He explained a repair we needed. He had the part in his truck, so we had it done to save a wintertime service call. He also serviced our whole house humidifier. The tech explained every step in the process. Great value for the money.

Adam came today to do our second skim. Professional and respectful technicians

This company installed AC on 3rd floor to cool 2nd/3rd floor of an older home. The are a very professional company. They communicated well - office staff, on the job workers, lead sales representatives - all communicated very well. They explained the details of the job so I knew exactly what work they were doing and why they were doing it. They cleaned up there mess better than most venders I have ever used. The electric they referred me to for the wiring beat any of the electric quotes that I received from other electricians. I also attained multiple AC quotes from competitor companies in the area. Verne was slightly higher than 1 other quote but competitive on the others. The slightly higher fees were well worth the money spent. They use top of the line equipment whereas other local companies did not and this partially explains the higher price. They were also concerned with the aesthetics of the job. Thank very much.

We had uneven heat in our kitchen area. Chris Hann came out and looked at our situtation. He came up with a plan to remedy the problem. The technicians were out the very next day to add 2 additional vents to our kitchen area. Everything was done with great attention to detail, they even cleaned my dogs paws off after letting him outside.

Have to edit since we've had additional experiences on which to opine that may be of use to others. Given the age of our home (100+ years) and our ever changing needs, the Hann's have been invaluable to us in ensuring that we find the best service providers for every need. The depth and breadth of knowledge of this team is unparalleled - from referrals for electricians, painters, plumbers, architects and everything in between, the Hann's have helped us achieve every goal we've had for our home. Can't say enough about our experiences with the Hann's for the past two years. They did an awesome job installing our air conditioning - not an easy or quick job for our 100+ year old house and followed that up with excellent maintenance and tune up for our heating system. Bill even gave us an additional perfect radiator because our living room was too cold and was clearly missing one, and he just charged for the service time. Who does that? Did I mention the emergency visit when our tankless water heater exploded last winter when it was well below freezing out and his people showed up within the hour? Oh and the time the garbage disposal ate my wisk and they found a way to get the disposal under warrantee and again just charged us for the tech's time to install a new and better model? Technician Jeff came out today, he was a friendly enough guy but pretty quickly jumped to having the conversation of a whole new furnace (which we did eventually ask about later on). My main frustration lies in that we were told it would be $98 for diagnostics (fine) Jeff then told us that it would be $120 hourly charge for labor (this was sprung on us after he had already spent an hour in our home). I really think the company should tell customers this ahead of time so they aren’t surprised later on. I felt we weren’t getting much clarity on the issue with the furnace and decided to decline repair options presented to us. I will get a second opinion and likely move forward with a different company. I’m disappointed because I had heard such great things about this business.

This is a small but very effective company that gives good, personalized service clearly based on individual needs. The owner, Bill Hann, is personally and directly involved and attentive to issues and needs. They did a very good job for us, and I recommend them virtually without reservation.

Quick update— we just had another very positive experience when Jacob and Kyle installed a new AC unit for our second floor. Can’t say enough about the professionalism and politeness.

We needed quick help on New Year's Eve since our furnace in the house we just bought was failing. We knew Verne & Ellsworth Hann by reputation from over 50 years ago, so we called and the owner came to our house in a few hours. They loaned us space heaters in case we needed them, which we did for about 24 hours -- the team arrived on time and had everything installed and functioning in one day. Also very helpful with Ecobee thermostats and working with Home Warranty company.

John, Bryan, and Keith did a fantastic job installing air conditioning into our 100 year old home. They were professional, polite, and diligent. I would recommend their services for any large or small projects.

I had V & E H Inc replace my 80's era furnace with a new high efficiency furnace and new AC in 2011. They were all around very good: good customer service, knowledgeable, quick with the installation. They were on the high end of quotes, but it was only a difference of a few hundred dollars, and in the end it was worth it. They put in a nice quality unit (York). They have their own metal fab guys, so the adapting from the old unit to the new was custom to my home, and top quality work. They were super helpful with the paperwork to get a tax credit for the upgrade. Total replacement took a day and a half.

Since then, the manufacturer had a recall on the gas valve - they came and replaced it for free. I had a bearing on the blower start to go a little more than a year after install, and they fixed it free under warranty. Had a control board fail as well one January morning, when we up early to leave town for vacation. Left a key - they came out that day, fixed it, locked up the place and didn't leave a footprint. Again free under warranty. I appreciate the professionalism and trust.

Stewart was very professional, and did not try to push anything on us. He gave us straight answers, and gave a recommendation that saved us a lot of money. I was very impressed.

A power surge pushed our old boiler system into extinction in the middle of the winter Polar Vortex. With temperatures hovering in the single digits, Verne & Ellsworth Hann was able to help out with an emergency installation. In my opinion, this company went above and beyond what would be considered ordinary customer service. They were accommodating, professional and genuinely concerned about us as a family. When we have family or friends come over, we actually take them down in the basement to show off our new boiler – we’re actually proud of it!

Answered all questions and listened to our concerns. Polite and knowledgeable. Wore shoe coverings to protect our floors.

Bryan replaced kitchen faucet supply line valves. The kitchen hot water had flecks of black debris. Online, I read that old supply valves or an old faucet could be the problem. The black specks persisted after the valves were replaced, so Bryan checked the faucet, taking off the faucet head from the flexible neck. Inside the faucet head was a pocket of black debris. I didn't know that the sprayer head unscrewed from the hose. Now, our hot water is clear, thanks to our plumber's persistence.

We needed some custom duct work done and a new furnace installation. We looked around and read the reviews on the satisfaction of previous customers and decided on this company. Chris and his team were very professional and efficient. Chris kept us informed every step of the way. When I took the city inspector down to pass the work, he walked around checking the work then looked at the companies name on the furnace. I commented on how nice the work looked. As is the case with most homeowners in my shoes, I knew very little about boilers when I started to look for a replacement for the 40 year old boiler in my Shaker Heights home. It was a major investment. Choosing the right boiler was important and proper installation was critical. There were so many things that could go wrong. For these reasons, I was looking for a company and people that I could trust.

I received quotes from several Cleveland companies, including Verne & Ellsworth Hann. I met with Bill Hann at my home. I toured the Verne & Ellsworth Hann facility in Cleveland Heights. I have 40 years of experience in lead roles for a major global tool manufacturer and I was impressed with all aspects of the Verne & Ellsworth Hann organization. Most importantly, Bill earned my trust.

The removal of the old boiler, and the installation of the new boiler and new copper cold water return pipes in my basement took about three days. The Verne & Ellsworth Hann installation team was excellent. They were experienced. They arrived precisely on time every day. They explained every step of the process. They worked as a team. They treated my home with extreme care, as if it was their own.

The new boiler works great and the installation is a thing of beauty. My radiators used to be very noisy, now they are much more quiet. Sometimes I miss the clanging noises, but every time I go into my basement, I smile. I now have a reliable, efficient system and I can leave town in the winter without worry.

After months of chasing other companies that never called back or gave us a price, we called Hann(should have done that from day one). The same day Bill Hann came out to see what needed to be done, he emailed an estimate, complete with asbestos removal from another company.
About a week after the asbestos was done, a 7-man crew showed up and took out our almost 100yr old boiler in just a few hours. The same day they got the new one set and ready for a quick day of buttoning up.

Efficient and professional

The tech came at the appointment time and went to the basement. He took a couple of readings but didn't open up anything on the basement blower, which I found unusual, as in the past, the tech has always cleaned out the blower area. He did change the filter that I had in there with a new one that I already had here. Being that the HVAC is fairly new, I wasn't worried about there being any problems. He didn't look at the attached humidifier or air filter system, as techs in the past have also done. He immediately went to the compressor outside and did clean it out. I wasn't with him outside but I assume that he took some readings there as well. All in all is was fine, I just was a little surprised that so little was done, particularly in the basement. Of course I will continue to use V & E Hann.

We had them replace our old AC unit. They had the best price and were very professional in all aspects, from sales thru installation and payment. The installers were right on time and checked with me before doing anything that would result in a change from the old unit's location. Friendly and competent, no mess left behind.

Verne & Ellsworth Hann has done a great job with my recent boiler replacement. The replaced my boiler and relocated my hot water tank. They did a great job and quickly, it took them 2 days to rip out my 40 year+ old boiler and install a new one. The also installed a new radiator and help balance my system. If you live ina an old house in shaker or anywhere that has steam heat systems I would recommend them anytime to do work.

Verne & Ellsworth Hann replaced our old furnace and water heater in December. We got a decent price and they were very transparent about cost. Installation was one day for the furnace and one day for the tankless water heater. All the service techs were real nice and friendly; I am curious and ask a lot of questions. First time homeowner, so I was a noob when it came to big house expenses, but I don't regret choosing V&EH. Highly recommend

When our central air went out a few weeks ago, we needed to find someone to come in and get our system back up and running or replaced as soon as possible. We had received a quote from another reputable company but I always like to get a second opinion before dishing out a lot of money. Verne Ellsworth & Hann Inc. sent someone to our house within days of my husband calling them. They confirmed what we thought and they worked with us on getting our air conditioning and heating replaced as quickly as possible. Jake and Kyle introduced themselves when they arrived and and they did a wonderful job at keeping things neat and tidy as they got work done. They explained to me each day what they were going to be working on and what was going to be completed by the end of that day. I thought it was going to take longer than what it did tearing out that old Williamson Five in One system and then bringing in the new equipment. Turns out, this company was the one who originally installed our old system! Knowing this and the work they just finished for us gives me confidence to refer anyone to this business.

We have been using Verne & Ellsworth Hann to service our steam boiler and garage Reznor heater for years. Their reputation is stellar, and they are our neighbors. They have always responded quickly and professionally, and the cost has always been reasonable. When we flipped the switch on our 38-year-old steam boiler earlier this month, we realized that our old dear friend was ailing. We called VEH and they showed up within hours and performed an extensive diagnosis. With profusely leaking tanks and high CO2 levels, and the tech urged us to have him shut it off immediately. Bill Hann showed up bright and early the next morning. He looked at the boiler, measured, asked questions and was very thorough in accessing our needs and desires. He promised to give us a fair price and pointed out their extra-long warranty. We liked Bill from the start. He is friendly, professional, and has a great sense of humor. We knew right away that this was the company that we wanted to do this job. The price that Bill quoted was in our budget and he even threw in a few extras.
Yesterday, “The Crew” showed up first thing in the morning. These guys do not mess around. There were 4 trucks and workers everywhere. They promised that they would do their best to restore heat later in the day. Within hours the house began to thaw, and smiles were all around. I want to commend the level of knowledge and professionalism of every employee that I interacted with. Bill Hann even stopped over during the day to see how things were going and ask if I had any questions. The Crew left after about 8 hours and we enjoyed our evening in our toasty house.
This morning, the tech Bill showed up, added a drain line for free and installed new vents on all our radiators. We discussed which rooms needed more heat and he said that he would do his best to adjust things accordingly. Bill spent a great deal of time explaining the new system to me and demonstrated all the maintenance and safety features. He also explained how to use and program the new thermostat.
All in all, we are thrilled with our decision to use Verne & Ellsworth Hann for this job. Gas company identified leak during routine visit. Shut off our gas service at 9AM. Verne Ellsworth Hann was able to send technician within 90 minutes. Joe did the repair and gas company came back before Noon to turn our gas back on. Great work and much appreciated!

Verne & Ellsworth Hann installed a high velocity Unico central air conditioning system in my home which is almost 100 years old. I wanted a system that could be installed without gutting my old house or losing lots of storage space. I am so pleased with the work! Bill Hann was my contact person and did a great job communicating. John and Brian did a wonderful job installing the system. They are old house experts and chose pathways that minimized intrusiveness and preserved storage space and maximized aesthetics. Everything they did was neat and tidy. They always consulted me about placement of vents, thermostat, etc. If you want central air and have an old house, the Unico system from Verne & Ellsworth Hann is the way to go. Highly recommended.

We have a century home in Lakewood, which still had the original furnace (for a hot-water gravity system using radiators). Bill Hann and his team were very professional in their work, and they replaced not only the furnace (with a much more efficient boiler), but the hot-water tank too, as it was about 18 years old... beyond its warranty and (again) less efficient than current models. Now we're looking to add air conditioning, which means new ductwork, and the Hanns are advising us and also listening to our plans for an attic renovation. They are easy to get along with, knowledgeable, and versatile in finding the best solution for each home.

They have been to my house twice for two different issues. Both times the work was done quickly and I was pleased with the outcome. Joe, the service tech, is professional and informative, taking the time to listen to my concerns and answer my questions. I signed up for the annual HVAC tuneup because, so far, this company has proven to be trustworthy and to do quality work.

They were on time and kept us updated about their schedule as the project was completed. They were very nice guys, kept the work area neat, and cleaned up carefully when the installation was done. Bill explained the new boiler and thermostat operation to us in detail.

When he arrived he was courteous and walked with me though the house to assess our heating situation and needs. V&EH set up a prompt appointment when the heating went out at my home. The text messages, and photos, to let me know the technician (Ray) was on the way are incredibly helpful. Ray diagnosed the issue and got the system running within a few hours. He showed me where the issue occurred and what was replaced. Also, Ray inspected other parts of the HVAC system and provided me with recommendations for other work.

I couldn't be happier with the new boiler and hot water heater installed by Verne and Ellsworth Hann. They were a pleasure to work with from start to finish: professional, knowledgable, trustworthy, with a meticulous attention to detail.

While we went with another bid I thought these guys were terrific. Where do I begin! If you need a HVAC system or repairs you need to call VERNE & ELLSWORTH HANN INC. They are AMAZING!! I live in Richmond, Va. and although they didn't put a system in my home they did put one in my parents home. We had four different companies to give quotes on replacing the AC and furnace in my parents home. Although, VEH wasn't the lowest in price they were the BEST! I have learned that cheaper isn't always better and you pay for what you get! They were the ONLY company that mentioned replacing the old duct work. All the other companies were just replacing the units and still using all the existing old duct work not to mention my mom's old duct work was 40+ years old!! Bill ( one of the owners) came out to give my mom a quote on her system, I loved that because you were not dealing with some sales rep. you had the owner himself and that spoke volume to me. He was prompt, professional, there was no pressure selling and he was HONEST! With me living in Virginia 350 miles away it sure felt good knowing my parents were in great hands! Bill kept me updated every single step of the way. He emailed or called me to let me know what would be taking place next. The crew was spotless they cleaned up so well you couldn't even tell that they had been there. I don't think my parents basement floor has ever been that clean! :) The HVAC technicians were knowledgeable and very nice. Bill told me it would take two days and they finished right on time. Verne & Ellsworth Hann was very responsive when I found myself without heat on a recent, cold, winter morning. A technician arrive about 11 AM and was able to find and rectify the problem. We had a great experience with an installation of an air conditioning system in our quirky hundred year old home. Tim came out to give us an estimate, took our needs seriously, and did a thorough job measuring our spaces and crafting a plan. He even called in Bill to address some of the stranger features of our house so we all felt confident in the estimate. Other reputable companies had given us quotes, but were very fuzzy on the details.

The installation team was fantastic. Greg G., Sean M., and Sean B. were incredibly professional, courteous, easy to communicate with, and tidy--in a nearly 3 week install with lots of holes being made, we never had to clean up after anyone. The three of them were in and out like clockwork 8-4, and truly as unobtrusive as people completing an extensive house project could be. They even worked to avoid disturbing our baby's naps! We couldn't recommend this team more highly.

If you own a home you already know that there is never a shortage of things in need of repair or the desire for upgrades; I believe this is the given of home ownership. What should NOT be a given is finding reputable companies that provide services WORTH paying for. I seldom find the need to write a review but I was so impressed with the services and the work performed by Verne & Ellsworth Hann that I felt compelled to share my experience.

My husband and I hired Verne & Ellsworth Hann to install a heat pump and a Unico A/C system; I was impressed with their work in so many ways, I can only highlight a few. First, thanks to their ability to do a job that according to other companies was not possible in a centennial home, I am not only looking forward to next summer but can finally work comfortably in my sunroom/office conversion. Second, I was blown away by the thoroughness and quality of their work, the crew was mindful of space, room use and aesthetics. Most importantly, I was so very pleased with the professionalism of the crew, they were knowledgeable, dependable, kind, a pleasure to interact with, and always willing to go above and beyond.

Case in point, in the midst of the A/C installation, the crew discovered that our boiler was leaking and actively flooding our basement; with my husband being out of town, this amazing team took it upon themselves to clear out the area, remove the water, and arrange a formal assessment of the situation. Bill Hann immediately secured a unit and proceeded to mobilize a second crew to come to my home the very next day. This second team replaced the boiler in three days flat, the work was seamless. They managed to remove a boiler that was well over 30 years old, replace seriously corroded pipes, and give me heat by day two; it was totally impressive.

Called these guys after dealing with another hvac company that didn't' specialize in steam heat and was given incorrect information. I wish I could have called here first. The techs here know these systems inside and out and were able to answer all my questions and explain to me any maintenance I need to do to my system. They also did a tune up for my boiler just before a massive snowstorm came in and my radiators never ran better. Both times I've had someone come out they were very punctual. I appreciate all the work you've done for me!

The day after we moved into our historic home, our A/C compressor stopped working. I called Verne and Ellsworth Hann and Chris Hann came out the next day, reviewed the air handler and compressor (high velocity) and gave us a cost statement for replacement. A day and half later, we had cool air! The 2 technicians were very professional and worked during the heat of the summer in the attic and outside. All questions were answered and the professional work was outstanding....very knowledgeable and competent workmanship. We give them a 10 out of a 10!

My boiler sprung a leak two days before the artic freeze we had this past winter. I had Hann come out and they were able to bypass the leak till they could install a new boiler. When I had the inspection done after the install, the inspector kept commenting on the craftsmanship and quality of the work done. He said he was very impressed because you just don't see that quality of work anymore and some took a lot of pride in what they did. I am very happy and was very warm the rest of the winter.

My wife and I are very pleased with the work that Bill Hann and his team did replacing our old steam boiler and return pipes. I called Verne & Ellsworth Hann at the recommendation of a neighbor, who had greatly appreciated an emergency boiler replacement that V & EH did for them at a reasonable cost during a cold snap last winter. In our case, I noticed recently that our old boiler had developed severe corrosion. I initially requested an estimate for replacement from a national service company that my wife and I had been using for years. The only option that the national service company offered was to replace our old boiler with the same model, and the national service company’s quote was unreasonably high. I called Verne & Ellsworth Hann to request an estimate for comparison. Bill Hann returned my call. I explained the situation. It was apparent from talking with Bill that he has great knowledge and interest in steam boilers and a sincere commitment to providing excellent service at a reasonable cost. He stopped by our house, checked our boiler, provided a clear and specific explanation for the corrosion and why we should avoid replacing our old boiler with the same model, explained our options regarding replacement, and made a recommendation for a replacement boiler and some additional work that made sense. It was an easy call to hire his company. Bill and his team did a great job on the actual work too. The team members were knowledgeable, courteous, and clearly interested in providing excellent service. We experienced a broken furnace in January at one of our rental houses. After unsuccessfully trying to get quotes from other companies we called Verne & Ellsworth Hann Inc. They gave us a quote the first day and the entire job was completed within 4 days. The new Bryant furnace that replaced the 70 year old monster that was in there is keeping our tenants nice and warm and cutting down on their heating costs as well. I have nothing but glowing things to say about Vern & Ellsworth Hann! Chris the owner came out to give me a quote fir a new furnace and was personable and a straight shooter. No hard selling just facts and options. I had been without heat for over a week and it was getting colder by the day. The quote was reasonable and I also qualified for some interest free financing - amazing! After getting several quotes to compare, Chris came in lower and I decided to pull the trigger.
VEH ordered my equipment and squeezed me into their schedule right away! VEH installed central air conditioning (mini-split system) into our vintage Shaker Heights home that has a boiler/radiators. By now Bill and his crew had two major works in my house.

First, old boiler had to be replaced. Bill and his crew used the occasion to fix also a bunch of radiators and pipe connections that were not working properly (and sometimes not working at all).

Bill did an amazing job of not only replacing the boiler but in recognizing that the boiler is just one piece of a big system. It happened that our old house had many pipes and valves that were not working properly, with the result that the whole heating system was very inefficient.

Of course we did not know that--nor did the other companies that gave us quotes for the job. With basically the same cost of the other quotes, Bill and his crew were able to replace the radiator and fix these other problems. Most notably, the strong (and very annoying) clunk noises that would come whenever the heating system started (which we assumed were inevitable since we bought the house 10 years ago) are now gone!

The company was very professional in terms of explaining us the work to be done. They were always on time and there was no hiccups at all during the installation and later fine tunes. We are thoroughly impressed with their work.

The second work was just finished, and that was the installation of central AC.

Immediately after the job was finished, I wrote a message to Bill to commend his crew for their professionalism. I was thoroughly impressed (but not surprised!) with the work. The job was well done; communication was great (always seeking input from us and giving us the right feedback); not much disruption during the work; all very clean; and last but not least an amazing patience with a new puppy trying to bite everybody and eat everything!

Having to move from the Chicago area into an old Shaker Heights home without AC, we set out to find a HVAC contractor to help us. We were fortunate to have found Ellsworth and Hann. After some back and forth about how to proceed, I learned that Bill Hann knows these systems well enough to determine the most efficient and effective way to proceed, and that he’ll have my interests and concerns in mind. Through his guidance we decided to convert the house to a forced air system, and went through a weeks long installation process without a hitch. The new system works great. Being a contractor myself, I have to say that I’ve been impressed with this company from start to finish. I wouldn’t consider looking elsewhere.
