American Way Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning

Called them to install a stack washer and dryer on my condo that I am renting. They stated they could do this jo no issues and that they would take the old washer away for a fee. All this sounded great. I rent the unit out to a lovely lady and expected no issues. Sure enough they arrive and refuse to do the work. They told her no we don’t work in buildings. Now, I am no rocket scientist and I could tell neither were these guys, but washers and dryers are using in buildings. The person I spoke to even asked if there was any maintenance team members from the condo they had to deal with. I specifically said no, i own the unit and they will have no issues.

Well, they walked out. They were frustrated with the stacking and that they said they had no idea what to do with the old unit. Yup, you read right, they walked out and didn’t even call me or talk to my renter about it. When I called for explanation they said they won’t charge me. HAHAHA no kidding, but if i knew they wouldn’t do it, I would of hired someone else. Not sure how these guys have high ratings, i assume they just wrote it in themselves.

STAY AWAY from these guys. There are a few others that will do actual work and for cheaper. Consider yourself warned.

We had a water heater emergency and they came the same day, looked at the situation and explained to me in a layman's term what happened and what we need to do to correct it. They gave us a great deal and I feel very comfortable using their services in the future! Thanks.

Excellent service. Came out to our home on time and gave us a detailed run down of our water heater and it's needs and services. This is our first home so we have zero idea of anything related to it. We decided to call them instead of using our home insurance. They quoted us a very fair price and let us know a timeline of when those services might be needed as well as what it would look like when something does need to be changed. Needless to say we will not be using insurance when the time comes, instead will be using this company to have everything taken care of. If you are in your first home and need plumbing services I highly recommend you use this company. I know we will from here forward.

Questionable professionalism but they got the job done for a price.

For those that want to know, I was in a bind. Installed a new thermostat and everything was fine for 10 minutes. Then air wouldn't turn on and temp outside was around 90. Called late in the evening and asked if someone could come out to diagnose for me. Spoke with Adam. Adam informed me that him coming over was going to cost $75 but it would be applied to the service if I had them fix the problem. Fine, I get it. Appointment set for 9-11am next day.

When he arrives, I give him the breakdown and told him I changed a fuse in the system and it powered back on but no cold air. Being a DIY guy, I took my multimeter and checked for power on all the obvious places but didn't undo any wires since there are way too many of them to play with.

His first response is, this will cost you $175. Not sure what made the price go up but again, I was in a bind. That's my first point regarding unprofessional behavior. To his credit, he shared with me that if I had told him I touched anything he wouldn't even have shown up, so maybe that was the reason for the upcharge. He also advised I should have told him what I did when I made the appointment. I simply told him my HVAC system needed to be repaired. If he wanted to know what he was getting in to, I would suggest he ask. But instead, he simply said $75 and set the appointment. I would consider another demerit on professionalism here.

Adam got his tools and probed away. He checked the wiring and the diagram. Plugged and unplugged a few items and reset some of the screws. He changed no parts and just reassembled everything he disassembled and it started working just fine...Great!....

So I ask him what the problem was and what he did to fix it. He replied, I did my job. My second point on unprofessionalism. So I pressed and told him, seriously, I want to know what you did to fix the problem. He again replied, my job but also elaborated that this is how he makes his money. Fine, I get it, he's a tradesman with a skill and doesn't want to give away his trade secrets but do you really think a random DIY guy at home is going to take up HVAC repair and steal your business? cmon now.

So I pay him the agreed upon amount of $175 (no additional parts and labor) and walk him to the front door. The whole time, I stood close by to see if I could learn what had gone wrong with my system. He informed me as he was heading out the door, that it is illegal to stand so close behind me when I am working. To which I ask, Really? its illegal for me to see what is going on in my own house? and smile. He says, its the law, you can read it yourself. Guess what, I googled it and can't find a law that states that. I suspect that his insurance won't cover him if I somehow get injured while he's working and I sue his company for it. Far from the law

All said, communication could have been better, would have appreciated a higher level of professionalism, and the change on the cost of the visit jumping by more than 100% seems crazy, but I was in a bind and I suspect he knew that.

If Adam or anyone at American Way plumbing wants to respond, please do. If you want to refute any of this, please feel free to, but I should share that I can share the saved audio and video of the transaction in my house as needed so that everyone can judge for themselves.

They did an excellent job with my tankless water heater swap out. The repair guy gave a very detailed diagnosis of the issue with my existing heater, and provided me with a variety of options. After I decided to get a new heater, he worked very quickly to acquire and install a replacement. He made sure everything is up to code, and even explained to us about obtaining a permit for our new water heater.

Overall, the whole process was nice and easy. I highly recommend them for water heater services.

I researched a local plumber and wanted to support a local business. They were responsive and got someone out quickly. The plumber was able to unclog our slow draining tub and I am grateful to this company keeping all of their commitments to us, including being able to schedule an appointment soon after my request.

Mr Adam arrived at the time he promised and was very professional diagnosed the problem of my heater gave me a rate explained the cost and fixed the heater within an hour he was a very pleasant man and had a fair price thank you very much

My air conditioner was not cooling. VERY responsive with same day service. Was expecting to have to purchase new AC unit. Adam and co-worker were great. Knew just what the problem was and fixed it quicky and efficiently and for a reasonable cost. Highly recommend.

They bailed me out when I was trying to install a new sink in my bathroom and couldn't get the pipes to stop leaking. They sent a plumber in no time , the guy was friendly, professional, and got the job done. I was glad I called.

I had an incredible experience with American Way. Initially I thought they would have to totally replace my AC but they tried to add freon first before charging me for an entire new unit and it did the trick. I am so grateful that they were honest and did everything that they could to save me money. Great customer service! Even helped with hooking up my new dryer vent! I would definitely use them again! These guys are very professional, cooperative and responded to all requests promptly. The quality of work done by them is excellent and a reasonable price they have. I commend their service and will use it again in the future.

We needed immediate help when our A/C went down in 100-degree heat, just after moving into the new house.  They came quickly, solved the problem on the spot, saved the day, and were professional to boot.

We had a leak in a pipe in the garage....called and a plumber was here within a 1/2 hour...on a Saturday...fixed the leak and YAY, done! We're going to have him back and re-plumb all the toilets!

They were available on the weekend, accommodated our emergency, and did a fine job. This was a great experience and I won't be worried about plumbing issues anymore, knowing these guys are just a call away.

You advertise free estimates, and now after waiting 5 days, you tell me you are too busy to come to my location. You said that you would rather deal with paying customers then to give me a price for work that is needed. You let me down, and i will never use your service in the future.

I was very impressed with my experience. We had a plugged drain. The technician asked intelligent questions to help him get started in an effective manner. He was professional and genuine, and I felt fine about having him in our home. He fixed our problem. The fee was less than others who we've had out for the same work.

Our realtor recommended them after he had worked with them for a while. They installed our new dishwasher in a very tricky spot and the whole process was seamless.Plumber was extremely knowledgeable and explained everything about our space x dishwasher. Good! Good! Good!

We used American Way to fix a number of plumbing issues in our new property before we moved in. They were very professional, efficient, reasonably priced and most importantly got the job done. Excellent service that I highly recommend.

I woke up and our kitchen sinks are clogged, the dishwasher was overflowing and even the washing machine had water coming out of it even though it wasn't running. Yuck.
I looked on google and found American way . I called them and a service man came out to the house about 40 minutes later and took care of everything. He is very clean and friendly and fast.
He did a great job and the price was reasonable.

When our ac started acting up, and the temperature got really hot inside the home, we knew it was time to call in the pros. I used this service a few years back, so they were my first choice! The American Way team came out quickly without breaking any bank accounts, which is always appreciated - especially when you're on a budget like ours. Thanks again for the excellent service.

Couldn't get a contractor and my entire AC Handler and Compressor were out on a 90+ degree day. American Way - and particularly Adam and Al came to the rescue and replaced the entire system in 1 day - can't say more than that.... These guys are awesome.... You can count on them doing good work.

Professional, practical, and responsive. Replaced AC unit and coil quickly and with a unit that met my needs. Did not try to oversell bells and whistles. Nice folks too!

We had a semi-emergency plumbing issue last week. Our master shower would not turn off. After turning our water off overnight, we called this Plumber and were able to schedule an appointment for that afternoon. The plumber that came was able to fix our shower issue and went above and beyond to take care of a bigger plumbing issue that came up. He is a hard worker. Highly recommended!

These guys are the best very very reasonable prices for outstanding responsive service and high quality equipment. I hired them to do HVAC for my house that was being expanded w/new floor added there was lots of chaos w/the construction which the Tech was able to navigate beautifully. They respond promptly to questions. I would not use anyone else for HVAC. Thank you!!!

The owner's customer service is fair. They were actually trying to rip me off. Guys be careful and watchful while dealing with them.

I called about a week before Christmas and was almost out the door to head on a long car drive for the Holidays until I checked the basement to see the hot water heater was broken and there was water everywhere. They came out within 45 minutes, confirmed it needed to be replaced (it was 20 years old), purchased and installed a new one, and hauled off our old one. This was all within 3 hours! The price was fantastic and the work was wonderful. I will definitely be using them again if need be.

I am very impressed; I have had my share of companies who I have had a bad experience with. This company was responsive and gave me same day service. They came to the house and had to leave for parts but returned to finish the same evening. I did not skip a beat as I work from home in an upstairs office and I was good to.

We came home after vacationing for an entire week and found out that there was no hot water in the kitchen. These guys showed up on scheduled time and fixed the hot water for us. Their dispatcher was really helpful and pleasant on the phone. This company is the best.

I would give them 10 stars…they are awesome, Adam and the other rep, (sorry didn’t get his name) responded quickly, made the necessary repair quickly, pleasant, informative…I highly recommend. Oh and price wise, very fair, not exorbitant…just great.

American Way Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning has been my family's go-to company for a long time. We've used them for all three of their primary services so far, and they have helped us to complete renovations and emergency repairs with accuracy, professionalism, and fair pricing.

This company was recommended to me from a long time friend of my father's when my husband and I purchased our new home a few years back. They helped us to renovate some of the plumbing in our master bathroom, and were always helpful when we called them with random plumbing issues. When the AC went last summer, they were quick with coming over to take a look and repaired it the same day in the middle of August. When our heating system wasn't working correctly this winter, we weren't stuck in the cold for long.

They have always been reliable and I've recommended them to many friends and neighbors. They are full-service and really great people.

I made first contact with Al from American Plumbing on 7/22, and 6 days later, he and his team installed a brand new central A/C system in my West Orange house. They are straight forward with their estimates and will not sell you anything that isn't necessary. Just know some basic facts about the subject so you know what you want when you call them. The pricing was very fair and affordable compared to several other estimates I got, but at same time fair enough for them to stay in business. They came in and installed everything in a quick and efficient manner, relieving me from the summer heat. I will definitely call them again if I had another house and it needed a/c, or other issues in general maybe in the future. Thanks again!

Stay away from these guys

This is the first time I am giving someone a bad review; unfortunately I had a bad experience with his guys.

They came to fix my boiler 3 times in the span of 4 - 6 weeks.

The first time the technician charged me about 475 for fixing something that wasn’t the problem at least that’s was my gut feeling.

The technician got my sofas and entire basement wet !!

So 4 wks later the problem came back; they fixed something else and charged me 675; so one day later guess what ? problem came back and they charged me 275 !

I am not even mentioning all the arguments I had w these guys and that on the third time they came they broke one of my blinds (the blind was already semi-broken I admit ) however it would of been fine if they said hey broke something.. however they denied it !

The problem hasn’t come back however it took me a total of $1,400, broken blinds, wet sofas/basement, lots of aggravation and waste of my time

Unfortunately I won’t call these guys again

I called at 7 AM and they were at my house by 10:30 AM. My Wife and I woke up to water in our basement. We are first time home owners and this was our first experience with anything like this. I was very impressed with the professionalism and knowledge of the two gentleman who came to my house. They really knew what they were doing and they got right down to business. They left by 11:40 AM and by then the problem was fixed. They snaked out our main line. Very thankful they were able to come in such short notice and the prices were reasonable
