Newmans Plumbing Service & Repair

Very prompt, arrived on time, and took care of my issue. However, the tech himself was not very clean. He removed the clog in my drain, but left disgusting black water and goop all over my wall and floor. He also said I may want to replace my piping, but offered no solution for it. It may have just been the plumber, but from this experience, I wouldn't recommend this company.

Melissa was extremely knowledgeable and helped me fix the problem over the phone for a clogged shower drain after I had tried snaking the line myself. Saving me money!!!! Will call again for sure!

Used to be alot better. Came to my house, charged hourly rate to tell me it was the city's problem and in the end new plumber found it was definitely on my end and fixed the problem quickly. Miss the old staff.

We at Top Floors have been using their services for quite some time. My husband has a master plumbing license. He knows exactly what is invovlved with scope of work needed and pricing. We have not had any complaints with our residential and commercial work. Will continue to use and refer.

I was a 1st time homeowner and honestly didn't know anything about plumbing. I had several problems and called around for help. I couldn't believe how expensive it was to fix things I thought should be simple. My faucet outside was leaking. There were a few companies that quoted me over 500 dollars to come out and rebuild the faucet. I called Newman's Plumbing, and not only was the quote half the price, but I was able to get it fixed the same day! I have used them several times now, and the service has always been great, and so were the prices.

Called Newman's and it sounded like just a call center. Quoted me something ridiculous without even looking at the job. Use caution...

Should be ZERO STARS. Left a message for a quote 10 days ago, NO reply NO call... nothing. Must be nice not to need business. I wanted to support a local business, next time I will try elsewhere. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THESE GUYS.

Did a great job explained everything and checked all the work 3 times to make sure the water heater was working properly. Even let me pick his brain about running a water line for refrigerator. Great service will use them again for 2 more jobs.

Newman's has had my back since I purchased a home in Portsmouth a year ago. After months of getting nowhere with technicians sent by my home warranty people, I reached out to Melissa at Newman's. She wasted no time in sending the guys out to diagnose some pretty intense root intrusion in my main sewer line. The replacement took little time, the price was reasonable, but the trust I have with this company is immeasurable. They have treated my family like their own. Thanks Melissa, David (the Man!), Tyler, Richard, the other dude that was out back digging that trench (sorry, didn't get your name).. You guys are wonderful.

This company did not perform as expected, it failed to do the job(s).

My elderly parents, 85yo and 90yo with health issues, required plumbing repair at their home. 1. The bathroom toilet cast iron flange needed to be cut off and replaced because the subfloor had been replaced. 2. The bathtub required clearing the drain and 3. a new sink faucet installed. I called Newman’s because they had positive customer reviews for their professionalism and high rating. Initially they promised to be at the house the next day, I called late the following day to see why the plumber hadn’t arrived.... subsequently someone was dispatched late to my parents home. I conferred by phone with the plumber regarding the work effort and cost prior to starting the job. They estimated the drain and faucet would be $150.00, and the flange replacement as unknown until the number of hours were calculated in. Since I was out of town we agreed to transact payment by credit card phone. Later, after the plumber had completed some work he presented my mother with a $XXX bill which she paid. Why didn’t contact me as instructed IDK! I called the next day to inquire and didn’t reach anyone. I called the following Saturday and talked with the owner that was aware of issues the tech experienced, but didn’t have much information regarding what was performed. I indicated the tech had arrived late work on the following day worked on the toilet drainage pressure, didn’t resolve it, and presented another $XXX bill of a similar amount. The owner couldn’t contact the tech for more details and indicated he would call Monday or the tech would call back to discuss the issue and cost.... it’s been four days and I haven’t received any explanation from anyone!!!
The flange repair was completed. The bathtub drain was augured and not cleared; left in a messy state with black debris. The toilet drain was augured to improve drainage pressure and clear any obstruction—not fixed. The sink faucet replacement was never performed.

Bottom line— they presented 2 separate invoices for essentially the same work effort, one each day and would have billed a third time if allowed to return. They took advantage of the elderly—- unscrupulous and unprofessional!!
None of this testimonial can be rebutted by the owner because it’s true.

When our 6 year old hot water heater from A-1 failed, we called four different plumbing companies, and three said they couldn't come out for several more days (not surprising given the market right now). Newman's was able to come out the next day and gave me an exact quote on how much it would cost to replace up front...no surprises. David came out on time and was thorough (he found another small issue and fixed that as well) and professional. Will definitely keep Newman's on my list of companies to call when we need them.

I have to say I received the best service from Melissa and Jorden. I called with and emergency and within 30 minutes he was out an took care of my issue! They even have the drywall guy coming tomorrow to make the repairs to the ceiling! I highly recommend Newman's Plumbing and their crew. If you want It Done right, they would be my first phone call. Horrible sevice called them because of the ratings but Jake came out and did not know what he was doing and left the house a mess didn't put nothing back that he moved and was asking me to help him move this and that why would u need my help if this is your job I am here doing my job with my client and my was not happy and neither was I its not even my home and i wont be calling them poor service

The service was fine in terms of the work they did with the dishwasher. They literally HUNG UP on my fiance when he called inquiring about why we spent $100 to snake our pipes for the washing machine when the tech told him PRIOR that the problem is that the pipes were too small and that's why it was leaking. The only reason they looked under the house was to see how much we would pay them IF we decided to redo our lines. If you knew what the problem was, why are you charging for a service that wasn't necessary to perform? That's called taking advantage of your customers who don't know much about plumbing.

My advice: Don't yell at your customers. I could hear this person yelling at my fiance on the phone and I wasn't even standing by him. When my fiance would try to talk, I could literally hear this person constantly talking. You might do quality work, but your customer service and this experience was terrible. If someone pays you for a service and they want to know what why something was done that way, getting defensive doesn't exactly look the best..regardless of whether they are upset. We didnt even get to share the fact that upon inspecting our washing machine, there were dents in the door that werent there before..because we were hung up on. I guess thats what you get for trusting you'd be in good hands from a number one rated company in Portsmouth. This was our first and last experience.

I recently had an issue where I could not shut off my shower. Melissa took the time to describe what I was seeing and how it worked so I could make the repair rather than sell me expensive emergency plumbing services for something that ended up being relatively simple. It is rare to find a company that would spend the time to calm a customer down and help them rather than take advantage of the situation for more money.

Fast affordable and friendly

John and his crew came out and fixed my leak on my sink and my bathroom tub, they were fast and to the point explaining everything along the way and making sure I knew what they were doing as they were doing so! (I ask a lot of questions) didn’t give me any fuss or hassle on the things needing repaired and didn’t try to push any other sales on me. Prices are great and will definitely be using their company again when the time comes!

Early Sunday morning and we wake up to water failing from the attic.... water heater busted. Called Newsomes at 8am, they had someone here by 10 and repaired cleaned up and gone before 1pm. Thank you so much for the quick and great service. Tyler and David did a great job.

John Newman and his crew came out on a short notice and solve my problem and no time they did an excellent job very clean courteous and polite. I will recommend them to anyone and we use them again. They Rock prices were really reasonable considering I had another plumber come out and quote me about $800 more and told me it was going to take two or three days to do the job when his guys took care of it in about a half a day. Thank you Newman's Plumbing for the professional and affordable service when my kitchen sink backed up. With sludge build up deep in the line I could not use the dishwasher, garbage disposal or sink. Your technicians were very polite and efficient! This company is highly recommended.

Came out last minute, and were affordable and nice. What more do you need?

I am not happy with today's service. The fees were not explained to me ahead of time. According to what I was charged, I was charged about $75 an hour. They arrived about 10:00 am and left at 4;55 pm but part of the reason it took so long was they had to leave twice to go get material that they forgot or didn't have. I really feel I was over charged for the work they did. I had to go buy my own replacement tub/shower faucet and I was still charged an additional $100 for parts. I will call someone else to complete the plumbing work I still need done

Removed a garbage disposal as well as a damaged water drain pipe in my yard...the installed all new piping in the kitchen and repaired the damaged pipe in the yard in about 2hrs ran me bout 700 well worth the customer service and great job

I had a toilet with a leak and a dripping tub faucet. I called midday Monday and got a 9am appointment for Tuesday. The phone was answered professionally and I was assured the tech would call before he arrived. Tuesday the tech called on his way and arrived on time. Cameron and helper Trever were neat and friendly. They assessed the two main problems and worked efficiently and professionally. We discussed future work needed. I asked them to look at my kitchen faucet while they were here and they said sure. They were able to correct an issue within 5 minutes. Used Newman’s in the past 3 times to replace small vanity & toilet in guest bathroom and to replace both toilets in other bathrooms. Last time we used them was to replace flooring and 72” vanity in master bathroom. Newman’s does the job right no matter how long it takes at the price quoted. If you are homeowner and are faced with a plumbing job even slightly above your do-it-yourself skill level, do yourself a favor and just call Newman’s.

Sewage back up in the house is never cool. They came the same day and not only did an excellent job, but called the city for us to relay with certainty that the problem was not on our end. Their rates were affordable, the guys were super helpful, and we will absolutely call again if we have other issues.

I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT NEWMANS PLUMBING!!! I had a situation where our 17 year old daughter accidentally flushed a very, very large keychain with keys down the toilet. Somehow this monstrosity of a keychain made it through the toilet trap and within 24 hrs all our facilities were offline. Initially I had Roto Rooter come out and it became apparent that their technicians were inexperienced and were trying to upsell me to the tune of $4,200....yes that is the correct number. Roto-Rooter wanted to dig up my front yard and cut into my sewer line. At this point I sent Roto Rooter away, picked up the phone, and called Newman's. I explained my situation and they explained that #1 they could have have me back up and running TODAY, #2 they could do it at a fraction of the cost. Newman's quickly sent out James to the rescue. After assessing the situation James located my exterior clean-out (that Roto-Rooter couldn't find) and within 30 mins James was able to locate, dislodge, and remove the obstruction...he was even able to recover the keys. Newman's Plumbing sent out James after hours, quickly solved my problem, and at a very fair cost of $350. Legitimate, local company with wholesome values. Newman's plumbing will gained a new customer and I have already recommended them to all my neighbors for any future needs. Don't be fooled by scams like Roto-Rooter, call a company you can trust and count on!!!!...Call Newman's.

Amazingly fast service and super friendly people

Not sure where all the great reviews came from. After explaining two jobs and complicated circumstances, they put a hole in the bathroom wall before notifying tenant or owner, without an estimate. Getting the other job started was delayed, then they didn't return calls for over a week, so no showed on the appointment the following week when the owner was unavailable. At the quoted $250 an hour, one would think the process would be much more professional.

Called today and spoke with John about the lack of hot water in my house. He talked me thru a few troubleshooting steps over the phone. He gave great advice and was very courteous with me. This is by far the best plumbing company around!!! The highest amount of integrity, work ethic and absolute honesty. They have done huge jobs and small jobs at my home. Each time, they showed up when scheduled, finished on time and did it for a competitive price. I will never hire anyone else.

Everything I was searching for, fast, courteous, competitive pricing. Only way you could tell they were here was by the vehicle outside. No trash or debris to clean up behind them. Highly recommend if your uncertain who to call.

I've been a home owner for a long time. And sometimes stuff happens. Upon moving into my (new to me) older home, we learned about some of the bad things that people do with their flushing standards. This bit us in the rear when the entire system got clogged. This clogging created a backflow of stuff you don't want to see, to come back up.. into the showers, bathtubs, yeah... it was messy.. and ugly.

I called around to find a plumber that would be willing to help me and at first I just left a message to call me back. Shortly after, Newman's quickly responded by returning my call. The lady was very friendly and responsive to my needs. She mentioned that they had availability sooner than other places AND they had an option for emergency service. The emergency service (after hours) was obviously going to cost more but honestly, I had literal fecal matter in all our tubs, etc. it was totally worth it to have someone come asap.

The gentleman who came over definitely knew his stuff. Dave had been doing it for a long time. He was very quick to isolate the issue and get everything resolved. He was very concise with what he was doing and the path to get things clear.

I'm very pleased with the service I got as I had a no BS - let's get you straight service and was able to get it when I wanted it (which was immediate). As much as I hope I never have to call, if I do... I know I'll call Newman's.

John Newman and his professionals did an outstanding job of installing my whole house generator and updated electrical panel. His electrician, Jimmy, kept me informed on every step. John made sure everything was completed as I was expecting. After the generator was installed, they did several other things I needed to be done around the house.
