American Mechanical responded quickly to my request for a detailed estimate on a needed service. The office staff was polite and professional as well as kind and courteous. Prior to the visit I received a text message telling me who to expect - including a picture - as well as personal information about the individual that helped me feel less anxious about inviting a stranger into my home. Rodney White arrived exactly when he said he would and was clearly knowledgeable about the service and equipment involved. He explained everything in ways I could understand and was patient with my questions! I was very impressed with this company and everyone there. It was so nice to talk to people who genuinely seem to like their jobs and were so helpful!

Sandell Smalls from American Mechanical was tasked to perform a maintenance check on the AC system. He arrived on time and was very professional. He thoroughly assessed the system checking current draw on the motors, system pressures, temperatures and ensured the condensate drain was clean and flushed. Task was completed in about an hour and he answered all my questions. Also provided a detailed report of his findings. Service exceeded my expectations.

I highly recommend the technician American Mechanical finally sent, after missing several appts. Brandon Wilson was very professional , knowledgeable and thorough. I DO NOT recommend this company at all. Non-existent customer service. Many no show, no call to scheduled appts.

I would give 5 stars if the pricing wasn't so outrageous. I'm grateful for the service completed though. Technician was very knowledgeable and made me aware of things I did not know we're awry with the unit. He definitely saved me a headache down the road.

I was scheduled for Wednesday (it was Monday)but was called later to see if James could come the same day. Loved his chipper attitude! He explained everything, gave me a price and then went to work. I will definitely use him/American Mechanical again. I was extremely satisfied with the service.

I tried to install a light fixture myself and the original electric box got stripped. I was unable to replace the box myself so I called in the professionals. American Mechanical easily set me up an appointment. Rodney W. was the technician and he was awesome. He quickly identified the problem and provided a great estimate on the job. He promptly went to work and replaced what needed to be fixed and offered recommendations on a dimmable switch. He provided instructions to simply install or dimmer or even call American Mechanical to install and provided a quote. Rodney even checked the surrounding switches and repaired one that was not properly installed. He went out of his way to make sure our switches were safe and I ABSOLUTELY appreciated that. Kudos to Rodney W. and American Mechanical. Great job done!

I have always received quality workmanship from American Mechanical technician Avi. Avi is always very polite, knowledgeable, and does a thorough job servicing my generator.

Tim was VERY professional and did a great job of explaining what my options were for the replacement of my HVAC system. He was respectful of me and my home and I would. It mind working with him and the company in the future.

Had AC condenser unit and air handler replaced. Was very impressed with complete experience. The estimator Tim was respectful, friendly, and professional, even though I didn't give him the initial impression I was in the position to actally do a replacement immediately, he did not treat me any less different or pressure me which made my decision easy. Scheduling and final installation was on time and completed as promised with the utmost quality and thoroughness. Will recommend to others and consider them first for other future projects or repairs.

Darren did a thorough check of our HVAC for maintenance and was very polite. He explained what he was doing and was mindful of keeping our home clean. Thank you for great service!

Folks, if your home is over 50 years old and your water bill is 5x normal AND the city drops a love note on your porch saying, Hey! YOU HAVE A LEAK, but you know you're not using THAT much water, STOP READING NOW, and call these folks ASAP ! I'm embarrassed to admit I was totally unaware I had a massive leak in the crawlspace. These folks were out within an hour of the call, an took care of business FAST. Already plan to have em back out to install an in-house water main shut off and replace all the leaky fixtures too. American Mechanical ROCKS!

My Rennai tankless water heater has been giving me problems since it was installed. However, I have always received a speedy response whenever an error code has persisted. Many service visits have been made. Ed. S. has been especially helpful

Had whole house generator installed by another contractor several months ago. Unit never really ran correctly and was unreliable. Contacted American Mechanical and within two days they were able to come out. Avi and Preston showed up and within 10 minutes, had diagnosed the problem and proposed the solution. Repairs were made quickly and professionally. They have earned my future business.

Had issues with one of our AC units and contacted this company. They were professional and timely in contacting us and willing to work with our schedule (even though we had to pay an additional $150 to have it done after our work day). The first appointment after work hours the tech didn’t call until 7 o’clock and said he would be an hour out. He then marked in their system that he had shown up and i kept getting alerts to rate his service and finally got a hold of someone to reschedule and inform them nothing had been resolved. Then a new tech came the next week, recommended a bunch of maintenance, monthly plans to help us “save”, and temporarily fixed our current issue until we scheduled maintenance. Not aware of the fact that ANY maintenance/part installation can only be conducted in the morning. It’s been a hassle and a half to schedule things to resolve issues. I took a day off from work for them to call me two days prior saying the tech was out sick all week and we had to schedule for the following week. I stayed home yet another day for the maintenance and they failed to install both thermostats (me not realizing until I went to program the second one after he left without showing me how to use them nor programming them for me). Apparently the scheduler didn’t put an “s” at the end of “thermostat” so, without reviewing the order he had only installed one. Scheduling contacted me after i informed them of the error and we planned to install the new thermostat now and conduct maintenance later on when i could take another day off. Now, three weeks later, he comes to install for an error he did, in the morning, on a day I don’t have off and my friend/babysitter is at home during install (over age 18 and I checked with the scheduler that it was okay before appointment day). The tech was short on the phone, did not communicate anything with me throughout nor after the appointment (though I had expressed my phone was on me for any communications), and my friend said he sat in his car for a while before coming in and then didn’t even tell her he was leaving when he left. For all I know he only installed the thermostat BUT charged me for the maintenance that we discussed delaying to a further date. No invoice, no emails, no texts, no calls about anything done today besides seeing the thermostat on my wall when I got home. I will be cancelling the so called service subscription for “savings” and finding a new company as this has been an absolute nightmare.

Awesome sales rep that came out inspected my systems and spent a lot of time going over all details of replacement options. Followed by Excellent technicians that removed my two old heating/air conditioning systems and installed new ones! Highly recommend!

Lemar was the best tech who has come to provide maintenance on my AC unit/HVAC system. He was very professional and friendly. Offered to replace my filters when the last person said it wasn’t part of their job. In addition he offered to dispose of the old filters and help me move back a piece of furniture. I felt comfortable asking him questions, in fact he said that was his job to answer any of my questions. I would highly recommend him for maintenance on HVAC systems.

Extremely professional. Ryan, Darren, and their team were on time each day and were very courteous, clean, and helpful throughout the entire process.We had a unique situation with our system and they answered all my questions and took the time to explain what they were doing in every step of the installation. They asked me at the end of each day to look over what they had done and let them know if I had any concerns; when I did have concerns they addressed them immediately.I appreciate their knowledge and attention to detail. I would avoid this company, they do not stand behind their work. The service you get prior to the work is great, but afterwards it's very poor. They do not quality check their work at completion and we are now without heat on our first floor. Our third floor ended up with water damage from the HVAC unit they installed, it took repeated phone calls day after day to get a response from the company. They left holes in the wall and humidity accumulated compensating on the unit in August, causing mold. I called many days in a row and never got a call back. I finally got them to remove the unit so I could fix the damage myself. Our home has two HVAC units and we had both replaced by American Mechanical in May 2021, and from the beginning there were problems. In early June I decided to try the heat on the first floor - they replaced the air handler and it uses a boiler (they did not replace, and it's 30+ years old but ran fine) and the boiler didn't turn on nor did the fans. I called American Mechanical and a few days later they came out and fixed the wiring from the thermostat / air handler. I could now hear the fans for the boiler running, but I did not check to verify it actually had flame. Right off the bat this had been wired wrong, and they did not test their work. The employees seem nice enough but they rush and don't perform quality work. This November I turned the heat on and heard the boiler, but found the boiler was not generating heat. American Mechanical came out and said the board, and gas valve had failed and would be in excess of $1300 if they could get the parts. American Mechanical's solution is to suggest a $10,000+ boiler and water heater replacement. These parts are readily available off the shelf. Another HVAC company came and found that the transformer at the boiler was bad - upon replacement it immediately burned up. Something American Mechanical wired in the thermostat wiring is causing a short/backfeeding the transformer and causing it to fail. The other company will send out a more experienced tech to diagnose it further. It's November and our first floor heat doesn't work, thanks to American Mechanical. I expected better.

Awesome service! Austin arrived and found the problem quickly and in a short time we could already feel the difference. Having Scott out to give me an estimate was a complete waste of time. I was looking for an estimate on replacing old ducts with new metal duct work. He kept talking about installing Flex duct, which I was not interested in, and then finally gave me an inflated ridiculous price estimate for the work. I sent him packing. I since received multiple estimates for the same work, at 10K less than,his quote! A shame, as I have used American Mechanical for years at other properties and found them to be good quality work at fair prices.

We had great service from Mr. Duane last week. We look forward to him completing the electrical job he started. Today he came back with another co-worker, I believe his name is Dan. They work very well together.We always appreciate the service mechanics American Mechanical sends our way. Lyndsey is always pleasant to speak with to set up appointments or give me insights of what is going to happen along with text messages to keep me informed.Mr. Duane is a pleasant individual to talk with, he's very knowledgeable about the electrical work that's needed for our older home. He always gives a courtesy call to let us know when he's route. He gave us wisdom of what to do and not to do going forward with our electrical needs.I would advise anyone who has an electrical issue to not hesitate first to reach out to a company that's trustworthy and not trying to price gouge you on everything. This company is organized and reliable, according to my experience. The receptionist called me to let me know the tech was on his way. Then the plumber called me to let me know also. The plumber Phil was polite, friendly,

Brandon did an excellent job fixing our heating system. It went out last night, my husband called today and the work is already finished. It only took a couple of hours and he had the part on his truck. Very courteous gentleman that cared about fixing it and cleaning up after he was finished. Jason did the electrical work for an exterior plug and switch for our generator. He explained exactly what he was going to do. Afterwards he allowed me to video his instructions on how to properly connect the generator to our home’s power grid. He also recommended that we install a whole house surge protector which he then did for us. Jason was courteous, on time, efficient, and very professional. We give him our highest recommendation.

Stephen & his coworker replaced my 30 yr old electrical service with new CB & power meter boxes. They worked over 8 hr including several hr in the rain to complete the job. Both men were professional & extremely courteous to me & my wife. I have used American Mechanical for many years because their technicians always do great work.

Hot water tank went bad and was leaking water everywhere. First couple places I called said they couldn't install a new one until a week out. American Mechanical sent a tech out same day and he installed one in an hour. Life savor for our family. Thanks for the fast response and fast install. So grateful for our experience with Phil today! We went a few days without hot water and were pretty stressed going into the appointment. Jon was professional and arrived on time, he went straight to diagnosing the issue with my system and explained what he found and provided a video to show exactly what he found. Once he found an issue he continued to look at the rest of the system to ensure that there were no other issues or repairs needed and explained the cost to repair and clean the system. Overall it was reassuring to know that American Mechanical has such high quality professionals working for them.

Mr. Raymond Hedin was the best technician I’ve ever had! He explained to me what was wrong, the ends and outs of what could be wrong, and the fixes to each problem. He made sure to make it known that if the problem is not fixed and future issues arise, then it would be the other option. He gave me all the information I would need to know even for the future. He worked fast and was so polite. HE EVEN WORE SHOE COVERS WITHOUT BEING ASKED lol that’s a big deal for me and having a toddler and a baby! He made sure everything was running well before leaving, took all the pictures he needed, and made sure everything was completely good to go before exiting my home! American Mechanical rep very knowledgeable. Let me know Freon used in old AC units will soon be hard to come by; new units will be using new Freon. Also said to have City Inspection. Important. If unit caused any damages in the future, insurance would not cover it without that inspection.Didn't like the financing company, but who does. Interest too high for me. Payments didn't make a dent in my bill whole first year. Chose to pay off in full. Hard hit for the savings.American Mechanical does a good, thorough job. Good service plans.

Technician was very courteous, called when he was on his way. Had to wait for me to arrive at home. I was out doing some thing and very patient waiting till I arrived home. Very nice very pleasant very professional. He gave me a rundown of what he was there for what he needed to do and then he got right to it. he was very knowledgeable about my system. Tell me what I need to do to keep it up. I want to think about replacing it because it is a very old system. I want to thank him for his patients and service.

Jason provided an assessment and an estimate for installation of a backup generator. He was knowledgeable and provided clear, concise, and complete information. His estimate was detailed and he carefully explained all aspects of it. He was very straightforward on pricing.

Very easy scheduling, and Sean was here right when he was supposed to be. We received a text from the company just as he arrived with his picture and bio, so we knew who to expect (greatly appreciated for a family home with small kids). Super nice guy who was very professional throughout, and was able to both diagnose our problem, then explain the needed repairs and associated fees in a clear way. The work isn’t done yet, but we felt confident enough to move forward with scheduling etc.

This company keeps impressing me with every new technician I meet... And that's rarely the case. I'll try to keep this short, but I have too much good to say!To start... Jason was upfront and thorough about the process of purchasing/installing a generator, and he made it easy to give American Mechanical a try. And.. Their prices were great!I had no less than 6 people throughout the install day that helped with the generator and electrical work, and they managed to do it all in a day. Even stayed until almost 10pm! I know I had Tim, Jon, Dan, and Matt... there were definitely more, but I didn't get their cards. They all were very professional and respectful, and were willing to talk me through the process and explain what they were doing.... I asked alot of questions. (Yes.. I'm THAT person).Chris helped me with an AC issue, and he efficiently fixed the problem. And I wasn't charged for his work. That's... Incredible! The company really goes above and beyond for their customers, and it was evident in every interaction.Jon was back out for the final inspection and generator start up, and was, yet again, informative and helpful. He even looked into another issue for me, and addressed (and fixed) it quickly.I don't post reviews usually (or ever), but I was so impressed with my experience.. I needed to share it. American Mechanical stands behind their work, and have a very knowledgeable staff. I highly recommend their services, and will definitely be calling them again. Thank you guys!

The technician was polite and knowledgeable. However, he never went over any of the documents I signed when I committed to having the work done. When I second guessed having them do the work, I requested a refund and was told they have a free refund policy if cancellation request is made within 3 days but 25% if after. No one communicated that to me when I signed the contract and I happened to have called to request cancellation on day 5. After requesting that the free cancellation be extended to include my situation (which was only a few days past day 3 but not weeks later), I was denied.While I understand it’s my responsibility to read the fine print of the contracts I sign, it’s also poor business etiquette to not inform customers what they are signing and also poor etiquette to be so rigid on business policies. Had I made my request weeks past day 3 I would understand being rigid but only a day or 2 late and not being willing to work with my situation is frustrating as a customer. I would have appreciated a discussion and potential compromise rather than strict rigid policy enforcement that shows no care for the customer.I will not recommend this company to anyone as a result.

We were stuck in a bind and on a time crunch. We needed a few outlets checked out. Jason was able to come after hours and helped us out. He was very helpful and responsive. We will be calling him for future visits.

I was having issues with my HVAC system due to a lack of maintenance on my part. When I called, Debra was very friendly and accommodating with my busy schedule. We found a day that worked and Dennis R. waited for me to get home since I have a long commute. He was very friendly and explained everything as he worked. He also gave me solid advice on how to prevent issues from recurring and how to get a long life from my system. I’ve had only good experiences from American Mechanical.

Ryan Holowiak: Conducted the Annual Maintenance repair and inspection on my generator. He investigated system over cranking problem in a professional timely manner. He is a very hard worker, customer driven and cares about the customers and his company organization. American Mechanial is blessed to have an excellent employee on their staff!!

We had an issue with outlets in our house having stopped working, and the technician who came out (Jason) was supremely helpful and explained things to me as he was doing everything. He made sure to okay everything with me, and detail the procedure and costs before going ahead with any work, and was incredibly friendly and nice to work with. Would HIGHLY recommend.Have also worked with Duane twice, and both times he was very friendly and addressed our issues in a timely and cost efficient manner.

Service tech was excellent and willing to answer my questions and took the time to explain everything in a way I understood. If I didn’t understand, his communication skills were amazing and he was able to describe things differently but get the same result of me understanding which is an invaluable skill and made me more confident and comfortable with him and the company. 10/10, five stars, best in class customer service!

We called for an emergency repair on our HVAC and a tech came out on an emergency call. That's where it all went to hell in a hand basket. He said that we needed a new compacitor, charged almost $500 for a $16 part, but that did not fix the problem. He didn't remove the charge from the bill. Called a bunch of times to get a refund, but nobody returns calls. Finally got ahold of someone and they said they would refund the money by Wednesday the following week, but here it is Friday and still no refund and no calls from this poor excuse of a company. They are willing to upsell you, take your money, but not refund it. Never again, I don't care how much extra I have to pay.

Drew seemed nice on the phone, my husband was home for the visit, I wasn’t. My only comment is that they charged us $500 for a part that can be purchased from $11-40. I called to make sure I was charged correctly and I was told “yes that’s what we charge for that part” so….I’ll never ever hire them again- but they did fix our problem.

George was right on time to fix our AC on a 100° day. I would highly recommend their service contracts.

Propane gas fireplace leak detection. All staff members were great, including Tonya who took my initial call, the dispatcher and technician, Nick. Nick was on time, friendly, professional and knowledgeable.

Mr. Peters came out to fix a leak by my hot water heater and he did an excellent job. I had a few other plumbing issues as well and he was very knowledgeable and able to easily and quickly diagnose everything that I asked him about. Very friendly service and the price was better than I expected.

I appreciate Phil replacing 13 shout-off valves throughout the house. His experience is precious to the customers. Phil, your attention to detail and craftsmanship is superb. The heat index was 104 degrees, and the A/C stopped working.The next afternoon, a great Teck stopped by, quickly diagnosed, and replaced the broken component. He was polite, well trained, professional in appearance and manner. Our experience with AM has been outstanding for over 15 years. We find AM the best. They hire the best, treat their employees well, provide great benefits, and foster a feeling of familyamong their employees. They work hard and are respectful of the client, and staff. A winning combination for the company, clients, and staff.

Jason from American Mechanical came out today to check out an electrical issue. We unfortunately have a large repair that has to be done but I believe he did everything he could to keep the costs down. He was friendly, respectful, and seemed very genuine.

Thought I was going to have to recharge the Freon because the last place that has done it said I had a leak. However no leak was detected and the Freon was fine. Just had dirty filters that needed to be changed

Asked for routine inspection of AC. Service Tech was polite and knowledgeable. There was a mix up on the appointment time from the office which was resolved in a timely manner😊 and tech arrived within the window requested.There was some confusion on service needed. I was told the system was not functioning other then my fan. The tech took me to my unit and showed me what he meant. After disconnecting and reconnecting it worked just fine. We have not had any issues in the past and the system is only 5 years old. I asked for a repair quote in the event I have a problem in the future which was supplied.

Ed was very nice called me 20 before and said he was on his way. He looked at the problem trying to save me money but I told him to go ahead with the replacement and he cleaned up after. Thank you I now have great water pressure at my kitchen sink

Great communication! They called in the morning before my afternoon appt, then 20 minutes before they arrived. Nick diagnosed the issue quickly and had it repaired in 30 minutes. Thank you Nick. 😊

had a braker the kept going off. Electrical.Duane was able to locate & fix the outlet that kept tripping the braker.July 31st. Had my generator yearly pm. Ryan was on time, did the work, explained what he had done and was, as always, pleasant as well as knowledgeable of what needed to be done.I use this company for many things that need to be done.

5 Star service. Techs service was completely professional to include replacement of our battery, chancing oil & filter and total testing of unit.

Deavin and Shawn helped install my new bathtub and fixed a few leaks that the previous owner did poorly. They were very respectful to my home and very pleasant to be around during this process. Lemar was considerate, on time, professional and informed me of some things to keep in mind going forward regarding possible maintenance in the future. Did a great job explaining and answered my questions thoughtfully. I have not had a problem with any of the service technicians from American Mechanical.

Purchased a whole home generator system through American Mechanical. Brian and John were extremely knowledgeable and professional and we would definitely recommend them and American Mechanical to anyone else looking for a similar service.

I originally wrote a nice review about these guys when Lucius came to troubleshoot my unit. Lucius was extremely nice and professional but I received my quote to fix the TXV today for $2,400. Absolutely ridiculous! My family has been in the HVAC business for decades and if I wasn’t on the other side of the country I would have family fix it for me. If you are reading this save your money because I promise you 2400 dollars for a TXV replacement is a rip off. Go somewhere else.

Was very professional and arrived in a timely manner. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Our experience was better than we expected it to be. Our issue was fixed same day. 10/10 would recommend!

AC system went down. Called American Mechanical, Drew came and checked system. Noticed drain line was clogged. Semi annual service less than 4 weeks ago, serviceman never checked drain lines. Simple fix that should have never happened. Proper training would have helped.

Add a category for customer dumbness. My ring camera stopped working. Couldn’t figure out why. It was because of a light switch that was turned off. That I had forgotten about.

I felt likethe technician easily recognized that my main concern was safety in an older home. He educated me on types of options and how older houses were wired differently than those that are newer. I felt he neither tried to oversell/undersell, but simply understand my concerns, my financial capabilities, and my needs. I would recommend without hesitation.

I'd called 6 other places and only got a sorry we're too busy response. These guys said they could be there next day. They got my AC back up and running. They were very clear on all the options and costs at each step, and did not pressure me toward the priciest option like some companies might.Edit: They came out for an estimate of a replacement system. They were very clear and detailed on what needed to be done and were very clear and detailed on the costs for the various options.

The technician came to my house and I walked him to the back to see the outside unit. The first question that he asked, How will you paying for the unit. After he proceeded to the attic when he came down, he did not bothered sitting down and explaining any of his recommendations/options He was more worried about asking me what I wanted it. So when I told him what I wanted, he took his calculator and said it will caused you 21,000. Wow 21,000 🤔🤔 and didn’t bothered talking to me about any options. I asked for his business card! He said “I don’t have one on me.” He was the Worst advisor EVER. Believe me I have seen plenty. He needs to learn to Interact with customer better if he is doing this job for a living. 👎. Definitely, didn’t get my business.

After four cancellations and rescheduled appointments from my warranty provided repair service, I reached out to American Mech and received next day service. The technicians were informative and professional. Parts are pricey but they provided quality services.

I contacted this company because of their reviews. They did not disappoint. My natural gas tankless hot water system was going cold 10 minutes into my shower. Ed came, asked if I had ever done business with them and took a few minutes to tell me about the company and then told me about himself, his experience and he is a Master Plumber, which I appreciated. Then we discussed what was going on with my system. He knew exactly what the issue was. Turns out it wasn’t the system at all. It was the O ring in the shower head restricting the flow (and other technical terms). He fixed it, checked the system and no more issues. He could have done anything and charged a fortune and I would never know the difference. But he was an honest person. Impressed is an understatement. They have earned all of my future business and recommendations. Thank you Ed!

Staff at the office was extra nice and I don't think I am spelling her name correctly but Chrissy went out of her way to work with Virginia Gas company to finish up the generator project. We received a brand new HVAC unit from this company were actually two one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs. Today they sent a rep out to make sure that everything was going well with the system, and he was very professional throughout the entire process of today checking everything from the outside to the attic to make sure that everything was working fine. He arrived on time did a thorough check. It was very very nice to have the process. I couldn’t ask for a better company there a lot of companies out there just want to get systems sold, but this company really listens to the client and gets a system that suitable for them

I had a great experience with American Mechanical starting at the very first phone call. Everyone was kind and helpful getting the appointments scheduled and keeping me updated on the status. Jason, the technician, was honestly very friendly and helpful. He explained the problem clearly, presented well thought out solutions and was honestly just very pleasant to work with. I can't recommend this company highly enough based on this service visit. I'm definitely going to call them again when I need service.

Update 5/4/2022: Though there were some problems initially, the company has done everything anyone could reasonably expect to make the system work. We continue to rely on them for our HVAC, plumbing and electrical work.American Mechanical has installed and maintained several systems in our house and we've always been happy with their work. However, following a recent $25K HVAC/Duct replacement, when a cheerful person called to ask if I was completely satisfied, I said no, the system isn't working correctly and explained why. She promised to get back to me, but since then all I've gotten is a flurry of texts and e-mails (8 by my count) asking me to review the service. Well, here it is: Projected to take 4 days, the install took 8 days as there were not enough installers assigned, and those that were had to leave early on several days, leaving us with no heat over a long, cold weekend. Once finished, the system only works correctly when it's turned off as temperature across rooms varies dramatically when it's on - as I write this it's 46 degrees outside, and with the thermostat at 70, rooms range in temperature from 68 to 74 degrees with a windstorm coming out of some ducts, but no air at all seeming to come out of others. I tried to adjust ducts manually in individual rooms, but about half of them were installed without the adjustment knobs. So, as I sit in my office with the heat on and a window open, after a week of no response to my complaints it's looking like we may have to hire a professional AC company to come in and fix the mess American Mechanical made in our attic.

We had issues with our bathroom outlets. None of them worked. They were obviously connected but we were not able to figure out the problem. American Mechanical came out the same week that we called were able to fix the problem for us in a few hours and the price was great. Our technician Rodney was great, friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

A representative for American mechanical came out named Brian To give me an estimate on a generator and he was absolutely fabulous! Very knowledgeable and made sure I understood everything and had no questions before he left.

Matthew Leonard performed the semi-annual check on our HVAC system and fixed a loose ceiling vent. I was very pleased with his professionalism and knowledge of the system. Upon explaining an all house purifier and providing me with brochures on this, I authorized the installation of this unit and look forward to seeing some changes in the allergens in our house. Matthew did a great job, I am very pleased with the results. Also, American Mechanical is a great company I have been with 3-4 years, all services have been great, including their office personnel.

Very friendly and professional. Duane Hillegas was assigned to my work order and he did a fantastic job, answered all my questions and was very friendly and straightforward with me. Every time there was a deviation with the installation he came and notified me and asked me what I wanted to do next and how to proceed. I really appreciate the work he did and will be happy to use American Mechanical and Duane again.

I was lied to not once, not twice, but three times by customer service. I am in the military service living on the opposite side of the country and couldn't be there for the service I had scheduled with American Mechanical during Christmas break. My wife took the day off work Tuesday as we had scheduled American Mechanical to work on our plumbing issue and was told a plumber was coming at 3pm that day. No plumber ever came by. I called customer service and they said they had rescheduled for service Friday morning. Not only did my wife take the day off work to wait for service that never came, but now we had to wait 3 additional days for our issue to be fixed. When I brought this up to them and asked for compensation in the form of discounted service, I was told a manager would be in contact with me to discuss a discount. No one contacted me. So I called Friday morning to speak to a manager about a discount and was given the same answer, someone will contact you about a discount. My wife was contacted about a plumber coming Friday afternoon. I called customer service again before the plumber came and got the same standard answer again, someone would be contacting you. The plumber arrived without anyone contacting me and they left when my wife told them no work was to be done without someone from American Mechanical first contacting me. American Mechanical wasted our time and lied to us over and over leaving a very unhappy dissatisfied customer.

Today Ryan H. came to do my yearly maintenance to my Generac Generator. Ryan called when he was on his way and arrived on time for my appointment. He began promptly to service my genrator and as he went along he explained to me what he was going to do. Ryan answered very clearly the questions that I had. I was extremely pleased with the service I received today. He is a wonderful representative for American Mechanical. :>)

The company was quick to respond to an online request and follow up. They scheduled service for the next day. Rodney was polite, professional, and very understanding about my sick and grumpy toddler. Paid 950$ for a thermostat and fuse. Quote cleaning for -$3500 which is too expensive - suggested to purchased a new unit and I managed to call someone for not too expensive service and my AC is now running. Didn’t hire him again for the job instead somebody else.

Ed at American Mechanical fixed a plumbing issue which was plaguing us for over a year! He was the best repair guy we've ever had! He was thorough, he was professional, he was on time! He shared his knowledge with our family about what exactly the issue was and stayed to Make Sure it was fixed, he was everything and more that anyone could want from a repair service. American Mechanical installed home generator, team was professional and courteous. Installation looked great and professional. They were quick and kept me informed throughout the install. Only down side was how long it took American Mechanical to get the generator once I ordered it to install. I ordered generator in June of 2021 with a December 2021 install. With COVID and supply chain shortages I know it’s not American Mechanical’s fault.

Rescheduled 5 times without notifying me. I can’t keep taking off work for you guys not to show up. I make $310 a day, are you going to reimburse me my PTO or pay back $1550?Your time frame is an entire work day 0800-1700 and I have to crate my dog or put them in day care for $27-30 a day for what?

Duane was incredibly astute and knowledgeable, and worked with personal AND home safety in mind, going so far as to take extra time to clean up a few live wires (extremely lethal, look up electricians being cooked alive for 5 hours because they touched a wire and were caught in the electrical current with no help) that the home builder electrician had left stray. I have a 4-year-old and highly appreciated the though. As well, his work was clean and extremely satisfactory. I appreciate even and symmetrical things, and Duane had no problem helping me decide an aesthetically pleasing spot for my exterior electrical outlet. It might not be a big deal for some but it made a huge difference personally. I recommend at least having them give you a quote and meeting a representative, as my rep also answered questions that I didn’t know I had. You’ll be lucky if you get Duane. Thanks again to AM for an incredibly professional experience.

We had John and Noah switch out our electrical panel and install a whole home generator. Very professional, timely and efficient. Their attention to detail was on point.

Flash fire in an outlet shorted out the fridge. Jason arrived promptly, assessed the situation quickly, explained it thoroughly but clearly, and fixed the issue with alacrity. He was very professional and cheerful and we were thankful for the help!

Charged $440+$85 labor for a $25 capacitor on a unit that is 4 years old that they installed. By the way, it took them 3 days to get to out to the house with no A/C in the middle of summer. They will not be servicing our unit anymore.

I called American Mechanical last week (Monday) to come look at my Sons A/C, gave a detailed description of what was wrong and that we had no A/C. Was told they would have a service tech out in the next day, they called me in the morning and said he would be out that afternoon, 2 more calls and then at 3:30 was told they wouldn't make it out today. Scheduled for the next day.. basically same runaround, rescheduled for Thursday, get informed Thursday afternoon they were short on techs but they would have someone out Monday for sure (yes a week after 1st call) I called another company but they couldn't come till Tuesday, so again trusted I would get service on Monday. So Monday morning I was informed the tech would be there late morning/early afternoon.. so again around 4pm I get told SORRY we won't have a tech out today. This is such B.S, if you don't want to take a job just say so don't keep people waiting around all freaking day for 4 days just to cancel the appointments you made!! How rude and disrespectful of someone's time to wait around all day and still no A/C, wish I would have just went with another company from the start! I hate writing bad reviews but I share this so anyone looking to get A/C service actually done and not just a bunch of lip service.. just call someone else!! Still frustrated by being jerked around for a week.

Nice guy, but I’m not sure if it was a misunderstanding or if I was being mislead. I was told there was an issue with my AC that would cost approximately $1300+. I decided to get a second opinion who was able to access and repair something totally different than what I was told for about 15% of that quote.

My experience with American Mechanical was excellent from beginning to end. The office staff was friendly, dispatch service was communicative, and the technician (Lemar) was great. He showed me everything that was good with my system, as well as things that may need to be addressed in the future, but didn’t try to sell me services that weren’t needed like some other companies do. We just moved in to a new place and didn’t know if the system had been maintained properly, and Lemar was excellent at providing a diagnostic report in lehman’s terms. Highly recommend American Mechanical, and I’ll be requesting Lemar as my technician for my annual maintenance going forward.

After being referred to American Mechanical by another distributor who didn't have time to take care of me, American Mechanical was a great find. They were able to schedule a technician quickly, they called me back every time they said they would, the tech called before arriving, and even came early! Chris was professional, courteous, and thorough in his troubleshooting. The electronic confirmations were convenient and accurate. The issue on our generator was a warranty case and they are working with the manufacturer to get those costs reimbursed. The problem was fixed efficiently. The two different ladies I spoke with on the phone when calling in to the office were knowledgeable and immediately able to answer my questions or get me to someone who could. I appreciated all of these things, and they point to a well managed organization with an engaged and professional team. Well done!

Jason did a great job getting us an estimate for upgrading our panel and adding a sub panel to an outdoor shed. He answered all of my question at the visit and even called me in between his other service visits to answer more questions that came up after he left.

Technician was excellent, knowledgeable and professional. I would have given 5 stars but I think the pricing was a little steep.

Set an appointment to come and fix my outside spigot. The tech was running late so he priced me over the phone for 500. Told him that everything was accessible and all he had to do was the connection with the new pipe. Was told it was a standard flat rate. Canceled the call went to home depot and got the stuff needed for 50 bucks. Borrowed a compression clamper and took like 10 min to install.

The service tech/ sales representative was a Class A certified JERK! I have received 3 estimates in the past 10 days, all hovering between $5,500 and $6,500. When he entered my home he immediately asked me, how much are you looking to spend. I told him around $6,000. He then asks to see the unit, took some measurements and proceeded to tell me outrageous reasons for why he could not do the job for anything less than $8900. He them asked if I had these estimates in writing and scoffed at the idea of why the estimates were so low. He proceeded to take pictures of the document let him see and chuckled...Nobody is going to ever believe it when I tell them the other people gave such a low estimate. After clearly seeing my dissatisfaction with the situation he told me that if the job is not done right, that the city of Newport News would site me for all kinds of code violations for installing my AC against regulations. It was clear from the start he did not want to handle the job and also asked me several times, how are you going to pay for this? When I said CASH (several times) he did not flinch to add on more hypotheticals to adjust the price. This was a complete waste of 20 minutes and a lesson in how to be INSULTED in your own home.

Able to get all new hot water pipes ran through the house in one day. Both technicians were very carful with my things and did a great job cleaning up after themselves! Well Done!

Very professional . Step by step diagnostic and contacted manufacturer to reset the tankless water heater which another plumber (another company) previously the same day did not do and departed without fixing the problem. Previous plumber (different company) ordered a part and departed.

Technician was very courteous and knowledgeable of HVAC system. He provided me with advice on how to keep the FROG cooler in the summer.

We own a restaurant, and the last tenants really made a mess of the grease trap and all of the plumbing that they fixed. So when our new tenant moved in, we realized that there was quite a few things that needed to be fixed by a professional, not just a dude with a wrench. I got quotes from a couple of places, but I was immediately impressed by the guy who came and gave us an estimate, Nick. He was proactive, thorough, polite, and spoke with knowledge that was easily understood by me, an absolute novice. He was so good that when I scheduled the work to be done, I requested him to do the work. I knew he would do a good job. Well, he did a great job! It was a big job, and it took nearly the whole day. He left it beautiful and clean, and, everything is running well. I will definitely call this company again for other work that needs to be done. After seeing some of these negative reviews, I was worried. But honestly, I did not have any negative experience at all. In fact, I am incredibly happy with the way the company communicated as well as the work done. I thought the price was fair as there were quite a few things that needed to be done

I had a full home generator installed last year . The service was awesome at that time . This was my yearly maintenance which was performed by Ryan Holowiak. He was very professional. I received a call prior to his arrival. I was very happy about that because I had forgot about the appointment due to my busy schedule. Prior to doing his job he explained everything that he was going to do. Upon finishing his job I had to sign electronic paper work . Ryan throughly again explained to me what I was signing. He left me with an American Mechanical card just in case I had questions or concerns. Job well done ✔️.

While I am awaiting the installation of our new system, our house was a nasty 79 degrees in this humidity. Lemar came out and assessed the inadequacies of my old system. He was very open about what it would take to get it running again, but could not guarantee that it would continue to run as it was not appropriate for my house. He offered to do the repairs but recommended that I speak with someone about my other options. I realized a new system was what we needed her as out outside unit was too small for our square footage. Lemar made it semi comfortable while we await our new unit! We are now enjoying 74 inside the home, this is not ideal, but we understand that is the best we get till we get out new system. I cannot say enough how much Lemar went out of his way to come back and get the unit running to make sure we were comfortable while we wait!

I had a whole house generator installed. I’m not sure about the entire company because this is my one and only experience with them. That being said, at the end of the day it’s the people who come to your house to actually do the work that make or break a job. The two guys who came to my house John Laucella and Noah Cross were some of the best guys I’ve ever had come do work at my house. I bought a house with a fair amount of problems a year ago and have had multiple crews here doing all kinds of work and almost always something is done wrong or very sloppy. These guys were a breath of fresh air. They actually knew what they were doing and did very clean, neat, high quality craftsmanship. Just about the only time I have felt comfortable leaving while someone was working on my house. If you have work done with American mechanical I highly recommend you ask for these two guys I got lucky.

Our HVAC went down trying to keep up with the summer heat. I contacted American Mechanical, and they were able to come out and fix our unit within 2 hours! Our service technician was professional and found and fixed the issue immediately! We will definitely look to use this company again in the future.

Giving 4 stars for the demeanor and professionalism of my tech Lucis. My AC went out Monday, I am a cancer patient with cancer in my lungs they did a great job providing quick service. My system is under warranty. The error code that appeared on my thermostat was not the issue with the AC. Here is where the downside comes in, the tech doesn't know what caused it. He called his manager who basically said unplug everything and plug it back it. Well that worked. No idea why AC stopped or plan of action to fix or correct it. For this I was asked to pay and $85 fee for a system under warranty AND I HAVE NO DIAGNOSIS! It's not the techs fault but I will be contacting the office manager to see if I can get this fee refunded as it shouldn't have cost me anything out of pocket for a warrantied system.

American Mechanical installed a whole home generator for us back in May, but we discovered that our main HVAC wasn't working when the generator was covering a power outage. We couldn't determine which circuit was the problem (whoever made the original notes for our panels did a terrible job). Jason explained the problem immediately and was able to move the correct circuit into the electrical box covered by the generator very quickly. And at no additional charge!

Ed was very professional and explained what he was doing every step of the way and provided price information about each step so we knew exactly what we were getting. He reprogrammed our Rinai tankless water heater and that seemed to do the trick but I’m sure we’ll know 100% in a few days. Either way we are very pleased with the experience.

We hired American Mechanical to hook our home up to the city's sewer system. We were extraordinarily pleased with the hard work of Rich P. He is a hard-worker and went above and beyond the call of duty to get the job done. Overall, we had a very positive experience with American Mechanical. We received quotes from numerous other plumbing companies and they were all considerably higher. Joel did an excellent job of explaining to us what the job would entail and what to expect along the way. He worked up a quote that was the most reasonable one that we had received. I have no idea how this company has so many good reviews... Our A/C broke right before a mutiple-day heat advisory. American Mechanial was the first company we called. They left us in the dark, with no updates, for over a week (since the date of my appointment). It was *always* me calling them, or me reaching out to them online. Every single time, a dispatcher would apologize and insist a technician would be contacting me to let me know when they'd be coming out. They never came out. We gave up and called a different company, who came out the same day and fixed the issue in less than an hour- 5 stars for them of course!

Way too pricey. I found other hvac companies that were charging a third or a fourth of what they charge. They wanted to do a leak test for my hvac for 380 dollars i called around and found people willing to do it for 80 dollars. Terrible company. The technician also was making up prices trying to see what I was willing to pay. I will steer all friends and family away from american mechanical and advise against their use.

Most of their techs are really good--knowledgeable and generally do good work. Like a lot of these semi-larger companies, they're not going to be the cheapest quote, but they do stand by their work in our experience. We've had them do a lot of work over the past five or so years--generator, HVAC overhaul, electric, plumbing, etc. and generally happy. Sometimes coordination between various departments can be messy though, if you have more than one project going on at the same time, but again, the workers who come out to the house tend to do good work.

American Mechanical did an outstanding job replacing the old duct work on my home and my system is running so much better. I was disappointed how they had left my crawlspace after the installation (I understand some will say it’s just a crawlspace no one goes under there but ya know I go under there when I can to check on my home and also just looking out for the next guys that have to work under there) but in no time they were back to clean it up which I appreciate and respect. Brandon, James, George, and Willie are stand up hard workers and did an amazing job altogether. Looking forward to working with American Mechanical in the future for all my HVAC and plumbing needs.

Tim Hatfield from American Mechanical is easy to work with and has sold my family over $60K in total AC/Furnace work over the years for my home and daughter's homes. American Mechanical may be slightly overpriced, but they make up for price with responsiveness, customer service, and the ability to bundle any HVAC, gas, plumbing, electrical with great technicians/service.

American Mechanical came to my home twice to make repairs. After the issue was not rectified, I decided to get a new HVAC because of the age. They quoted me roughly $5700 for the new one. I was able to find that exact same one through a smaller company and had it installed for $3000. That was at the end of 2019 and I have had no issues. Beware that you're paying for this company's name with the prices they offer.

Despite claiming on ads on your local radio station that they can have someone to your house same day that statement is deceptive. This past Friday I called American Mechanical at 2:19pm for a emergency service. At 3:05 pm I had a missed a call. I returned the call at 3:15pm and was told the technician was dispatched “twenty minutes ago” which seems unlikely since there was only ten minutes between the call from the dispatcher. The rescheduled appointment was for “first thing Monday morning” or 7:30 to 9:30. At 9:45pm I called and was told we were the next stop... so at 11:25 the technician arrived. He was very professional and worked quickly. After thirty minutes of work rehanging and attached ducting the bill came out to $125 estimate plus a $350 repair. Unless the straps were made of gold ( guess what there not) this is somewhere in the ballpark of $300 an hour labor or a 1000% markup on supplies. Save your money this holiday season and shop around. Despite all this the tech seemed like a great dude though!Happy Holidays!!Mike

During his checks of one of the systems he found a coolant leak and has ordered a replacement part, which is still under warranty. I appreciate Dennis' thoroughness and professionalism.

Fixed everything right away, and he even offered to provide an estimate on a future repair, but he never left the actual estimate. So I’m curious if I have to pay for another diag fee for the estimate on my doorbell.

Once again they have come out to do the Spring Peak Maintenance and again screwed up. Everything has been fine until this afternoon. Now neither the inside air handler nor the outside unit is working. It's cold in the house. After the problems I had last year, I have the general manager's phone number and when I called he said he could not help me as he was out with his family. Glad he is comfortable while my family suffers without heat tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IN the fall they broke pieces of the air handler, and the time before this they left us without hot water.. UUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

American Mechanical removed an old wall unit and installed a mini split system in our sunroom. The techs were Keiahd and Colin. Keiahd explained everything they were going to do, we decided where to hang it, place lines, etc. I have to say the work they did was amazing. They were at it non stop all day and it worked/looked perfect when completed. Honestly, the area was cleaner when they left then when they started. They were super nice, professional and definitely new what they were doing. I highly recommend AMech for any similar work, in general, and that team in particular. The sales tech that came out was short with us when discussing options for repairs and tried to upsell us on services we did not need. He quoted upwards of $33,000 worth of needed repairs. He told us we needed a new fan and they charged us $2,500. We interviewed 5 other companies after American Mechanical sent their tech out to us and every single one of them told us we spent too much money on the fan. Needless to say, we took our business elsewhere.

American provided an estimate to install a generator. They were professional and gave me a clear idea of the job and cost without any hard sell tactics. The installation went smoothly, was done on time, and I received a thorough explanation of its operation. A great job.

The team stayed in contact to let me know the status of the tech, Brandon the tech contacted me to let me know he was on the way, and he diagnosed and fixed the issue within a half hour. I don't normally write reviews, but i have to say, Phil from American Mechanical is a true professional and incredibly knowledgeable individual. I had called American Mechanical after a failed attempt by my Home Warranty company to correct a sewage drainage/backup issue. I was pretty upset at this point especially with the service I had just received from another company. The woman I spoke with on the phone was friendly, patient and helpful! We had just moved into this house and sewage is definitely not what you wanna deal with right from the start. The home warranty company sent someone out who said I had a collapsed line and that there was nothing they could do. My call to American was early evening on a Friday and I was expecting to not get an appointment until Monday. They sent Phil over within the hour. He was very friendly, walked me through the yard helping me find the clean-outs and main cut offs. He walked me through some of the questions I had to help me understand the plumbing of our new house. He also solved the issue and it did not involve me having to spend thousands of dollars on a new main line! I have met good industry professionals before, but I am incredibly pleased with the service I received from Phil and the staff at American Mechanical.

I had American Mechanical install my AC 5 years ago and was happy with the service/price at the time so it made sense to call them for service. The compressor stopped running, all symptoms pointed to a bad capacitor, and reported this to American Mechanical. The Technician confirmed this was the problem. Then proceeded to tell me it was $400+ dollars to repair it plus the $85 service fee. The part that needed to be replaced is a $50 part (OEM price) and literally takes 15 minutes to verify and replace. Then told me that the coils needed to be cleaned and charged $300 for that. In all he was there for an hour and a half. So even if the parts were $100 because they use a higher quality part than the online ones how is $700 in labor justifiable for 1.5 hours of work? Under different circumstances I would have called someone else to do the repairs. But under the circumstances I didn't really have much of a choice. I am the Landlord, and my tenant has health issues and could not delay the repairs.

American mechanical came out to help me with a main line blockage that was causing a back flood into our downstairs shower. The first 2 technicians were awesome! Knowledgable, we’re in communication with me about everything from their expected time of arrival, how to best address the issue in a cost effective fashion, did awesome work, and answered all my questions. One technician, Dennis, even waited an extra half hour for my husband to be home so he could be included in the overview of the issue. They did great work and I’m very happy with their quality of service.However, the last technician to come out register to communicate with me except through my ring doorbell even after I requested that they call me by phone as I wasn’t home for the appointment… which I explained to all of the dispatch personnel who assured me that all parties working we’re aware… still never heard back from him to go over the specifics to the work done at my home while I wasn’t able to be there, which was very frustrating. I had to call the dispatch office to see if the work was even done!The admin side of the business is a nightmare.Heather does not return calls when she says she’ll look into something ( I asked if the military discount was included in my estimate and never heard back from her about that after giving them nearly $1000.) After my second appointment I was never contacted about my 3rd appointment until I reached out to them to see what was happening. I was informed that my appointment was already made without any consultation about whether it was going to work with my schedule or not. Casey, also helped me after no one showed up to the third appointment due to weather for the NEXT day without notifying me. She was supposed to look into whether or not anyone had to be there for the technicians to work in the yard. I waited 5 hours just to find out that she doesn’t even work in dispatching and again I had to go hunting for a answers. Don’t expect to get a call back about anything or have questions answered by Brittany either, as she’s never available or always away from her desk. The only one who was able to give me definite answers with solutions to issues was Jamal. He’s professional, prompt, clearly a problem solver, and never once gave me an “I don’t know” but always had the “let me find out” answers. Jamal, you're an example of how excellent customer service should be and I SERIOUSLY appreciate your assistance with my questions.

Our water heater wouldn't stay lit so we were not getting hot water after moving into our new home. Very happy with their work and signed up for a maintenance program.

Had the worst experience with this company. We had heating issues, had them come out the first time to replace a part ($600) and only had heat for about an hour. Then two days later they made it out again and replaced another part ($900), which then only fixed the issue for 2 days. After that we got a second opinion and showed photos of the work American Mechanical did. Turns out they just kept replacing things and charging us for things that never needed to be done. After calling for two days about cancelling a membership they convinced us to sign up for, they made us pay another $100 to get out of it. No remorse for the $1500 we had already spent. Absolutely terrible customer service. All they want is to get the most money they can out of their customers. If it was possible to give 0 stars I would.

AC/Heat Pump Installation on September 15th. Came home to half the vents not blowing and attic stairs not reinstalled correctly. Duct was reinstalled with damper control inside. Carpet on stairs was dirty from their shoes. Called immediately and guy came out on Friday 17th. Tech came to look at stair damage, fix damper and oh yeah, bolt down outside unit because the first guy failed to do it. Tech said yeah they’ll need to redo your stairs. 24 September called customer service, because my original salesman wasn’t returning my messages or calls, and was told they would have a dispatcher call me. 28 September talked to Jamal in customer service, I think, regarding stairs still not replaced. 3 October still no action so I messaged American Mechanical via their website. 4 October received message from American mechanical and sent text back, as requested to say Thursday was best day to have repaired. Fixed on the 7th. Fast forward to January, heat is working but unbalanced: hot upstairs freezing downstairs. Went in attic and found several feet of duct work left behind. Techs came out to inspect airflow and said all duct work (that came with house) had to be redone and turned my case over to sales. Within 30 minutes salesman was calling me I assume to give a sales pitch because I guess when you are replacing an entire unit they don’t inspect how the duct work flows. This is the absolute worst experience I’ve had for the amount of money I’ve spent. Highly recommend researching one of their competitors. Pictures show the gap they left in reinstalling stairs and the damage the stairs caused to a bedroom door trim when they dropped the stairs.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!! I signed up for a membership for them to check my HVAC twice a year. They sent their technician, Dennis, out to my house. He was unprofessional and rude as well as slammed my door everytime he went in and out. After he did his inspection, he informed me that one of my units was low on coolant, and that the cost to fill it and check for a leak was over $900. Before I could even process that, he started telling me about all the parts that needed to be replaced. I asked if they were broken and he stated that they needed to be replaced before they broke. The total bill would be over $2300. He then told me that I might as well buy a new unit. THIS ONE IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD!!! When I asked why such a new unit would need replaced, he told me it was because the brand I had was trash. It took me several days and several calls to finally get a manager, John, to call me back only to be told that all they could do is send another tech out between 9-4 meaning I would have to take more time off from work. They were completely unwilling to work with me to correct their mistake. Do not waste your money or time for a company that cares nothing to help their customers and only want to try to take advantage of you.

After getting different information and the run around from other HVAC companies with no resolution. We contacted American Mechanical, price quote much cheaper than the other companies. They were very professional and experienced. Spoke with rep., contract was emailed to us, we signed on Thursday; they were at our home on Monday morning. Hot water heater installed within hours as they had to bring the other one down from the attic, which is a task. Thank you again for your exceptional service.

My A/C quit working during the hottest days this summer. Although every company was busy during this time, American Mechanical was able to fit me into their schedule and the technician was absolutely wonderful! He diagnosed the situation and not only repaired the problem but also got my system working more effectively and efficiently. The best service I’ve had done in my home since I purchased it a few years ago!

Nick was awesome. He came when we needed him most pretty quick! And worked fast he was in and out and even did the service of checking the crawlspace for leak and identifying another problem we didn’t know we had.

Service was great but way way overpriced. $450 to replace a $30 dual capacitor which is plug and go. Took 5 minutes.

Highly recommend! We recently bought a tankless water heater from American Mechanical. Their prices were a few hundred dollars lower than the other companies who gave us a quote. They were also very quick and efficient in giving us a quote (for some companies, we had to wait several days and even pay just to get a price estimate). Installation was great— the gentlemen who came were kind, professional, and genuinely friendly. They also did a great job explaining the system and explaining what they were doing and how it worked. Tankless is expensive, but I really feel like I got a great value and it has really been worth it.

Two service techies show up and listened to the screeching our heat pump fan was making and said it might be the motor and would cost about $800 to replace. That was it. Hardly worth the $85 for the service call. They said we would get a call for an estimate that day but have heard from no one. Bad experience so far. We deserve a refund.

Technician was knowledgeable & respectful, we did however have to reschedule 3 times with American Mechanical due to HVAC Emergencies on their end. I thought that $330.00 to put chemicals in 2 drip drains to potentially clear out was a little exorbitant.

I rarely write reviews and never this in depth - so please read!We were in desperate need of getting our heater fixed - of course it went out the last cold weekend we had for the season! Our system is only 3 years old and still under manufacturer warranty. The technician showed up in a timely manner and was nice; told us that the problem was the ignitor. Charged us $400+ and signed us up for a recurring monthly membership. He replaced the ignitor with an after-market part, which turns out didn't fix the heater. Then he says the gas valve needs to be replaced, but it's under warranty and he doesn't have the part - so we're still without a working heater, and BTW we still have to pay for everything he did even though it was misdiagnosed. He also told us a lot of other things we were wrong with our system and we needed close to another $1000 of work done.We never received an itemized invoice of what was done and what we were changed for. We got a second opinion which told us nothing was wrong with the ignitor (nor the rest of the system), the gas valve did need to be replaced and is readily available to do so under warranty. We called American Mechanical back for an ITEMIZED invoice, to cancel the membership and to work out what needs to be done about the service done at our place - putting back the original part as to not void the warranty.They were not sympathetic, they brushed us off claiming doctors have different diagnoses too, etc. and will have a manager be in touch with us. It's over a week later and we do not have a reply. We have tried calling back almost daily without reply.To put a cherry on top, they charged our card ANOTHER monthly membership fee within the same week. I'm now approaching this via our credit card company because we can't get a response. Terrible to think you can't get decent customer service from a local business. Also, as a doctor myself, having different diagnoses doesn't work like that. If you completely misdiagnose something and treat it incorrectly, you are liable for malpractice.

I called American Mechanical over the holiday weekend with a non-emergency call. I received a call back within a timely fashion and after describing the problem was told I would be contacted by another member of their team. Within an hour I was scheduled for an appointment for later in the afternoon. At the time I wasn't home, so my wife received the plumber (Mr. Mayo) from American Mechanical and when I got home, he went over everything he had already told my wife in detail with me. We were presented with multiple quotes and recommendations and in the end we went with the best water heater solution. Thank you for being very courteous, polite, and making both myself and my wife feel comfortable with our purchase. Update: 10/11/2022 - During a maintenance check, the electrician (Jason G.) was very polite and courteous. He spoke with me about some issues he had discovered due to the age of the house and suggested repairs. He explained why he was recommending the items he had put on the invoice and explained the process very thoroughly. Again, I find that I am very appreciative of the professionalism and knowledge of the folks at American Mechanical.

Stephen Wilson did an amazing plumbing job for us. Our kitchen sink was backed up from occupants in the units above us. Steve ran the water jet through the line and cleared up the problem. He even cleaned out the yuckie stuff in the drains, cleaned the sink spotless. Steve was very neat going about is work, also very efficient, and knowledgeable. Our unit stopped working in the midst of a cold spell. I called a few companies that said we're serving members only. American Mechanical responded within a couple of days. They were busy also but were able to accommodate. I had a great experience from everyone I spoke with, any department. They understood our situation, we're very professional and knowledgeable. The technician took the time explaining every option available to us. I highly recommend them!

$700 to change a capacitor seems very high. Even if you subtract the $150 for emergency service. But we now have air on a dry hot day.

Austin arrived on time, explained what would happen during today's visit and went right to work. He thoroughly inspected my entire HVAC system, answered all my questions and provided estimates for repairs and enhancements. Dennis arrived promptly for an off hours service call on Saturday. He was to diagnose for the heat being out at our home. He was able to tell me the problem and let me know what part needed to be ordered, but that it couldn’t be ordered till Monday. He was polite and knowledgeable & did his part well. He then said he would email me my receipt for services that day along with the part information/price plus labor estimate for my review. We never got the emailed receipt nor email with estimates. I have spoken to the office staff three times today (Monday) asking for this information & when the part should be expected to arrive and have heard nothing from “the girl” who has our info and that knowledge. Dennis did his part great except not getting the info emails (I don’t know if that was an error on his part or someone else’s) but whoever “the girl” is that’s meant to get back to me… the home has been without heat since Saturday morning, we’d like to know how much longer this will go on seeing how it’s the dead of winter and we just had a snow storm.

I have not heard from this company for weeks now. Install is not complete. Heating not quite up to par. I have not received instruction manual and I am not able to make adjustments to my thermostat. We paid too much money to not have our heat working right. As of 3/17/22 the heat is ok, but there are other problems. I will not use this company again. It is now April 2022 everything has been completed. I had to pay extra to get the house fully heated. This was so frustrating after 7 months it seems to be working we will just have to see about the summer time.

Drew from American Mechanical was amazing. He was thorough in his analysis and explanations regarding why our AC was not maintaining a comfortable temperature inside our home. He presented us with several options while not pushing us to make an immediate decision. Instead, he also presented the option to cost compare repair versus replacing given our unit is 16 years old. For the last four years American Mechanical has been our first choice for electrical and HVAC services for our house in VA Beach. We have found all of their technicians to be courteous, knowledgeable, and thoroughly professional tradesmen, who have always done a great job.

Had been paying for a service where they service my HVAC system supposedly every season. After them servicing my system for two years, my tenant said she never saw them so I cancelled the service. 6 months later the three year old AC stops working because of mold build up in a drain line. The technician calls to tell me the problem and says it will be $250 to clean a drain line. I get charged $350 because he had to arrive and there is an $85 service charge. A week later my tenant says the AC isn't working again. American Mechanical sends another person who says it will nearly $700 to clean coils. A service which I recently had done on a different property for $150. I tell them I will be looking for a more scrupulous company to complete that service and they again hit me with an $85 service charge. Call someone else, they will take you for all they can, an there services questionable to begin with.

Called with an emergency had pipes backed up which flooded a bathroom. They were able to get out within four hours on a Friday. Shawn diagnosed and fixed the problem within 2 hours. He also did a great job of keeping me informed during the process with solutions and costs.

Drew knew what he was doing and only did what needed to be done. I would have his services again but hope after spending Lots of money on our replacement for our geothermal system, hope it won’t be needed.

Would not recommend. We called them for a clogged toilet. I tried plunging it a couple of times with no luck. The tech showed up late and told me it would be $435 dollars to unclog the toilet. I could buy 4 toilets for that price. I told him no thanks and he charged me $85 just for showing up. He didn’t even inspect the toilet. I went to Home Depot and bought a better plunger for $14 and got it unclogged. Saved myself hundreds of dollars. These guys are crooks!

When calling for the appointment I was treated fairly and professionally. An opening in the schedule became available and I was helped on the same day, which was awesome.Although, I wasn’t home when the technician arrived, my son was there and the technician was personable, professional and friendly. My son also said he was extremely knowledgeable, I was contacted regarding the issue and given a couple options to resolve the issue. Once presented with the options I chose, the technician completed the job and resolved my issue completely.My issue is after the service call was completed, I wasn’t contacted regarding what the resolution was ( technician wasn’t sure my thermostat was compatible with my hvac system) so I was uncertain if I had to replace the thermostat. I called and was told I would get a call back, after waiting 3 hours for a response I called only to find out I was speaking to the after hour’s receptionist.This morning I received a text message shortly before 8 am telling me I would hear from someone by 11. No such luck. I did check email and found that I was sent an invoice for the work, I called to get some clarification on the invoice, was told I would hear back after the person returned from lunch. I hope soOverall, the service was excellent the communication has been horrible.Fingers crossed it gets better

Very satisfied with the service and professionalism of Avi and company.Issue was with generator, had another company out that first sent their generator specialist, could not identify problem then sent their electrician, he also could not identify. Avi arrived , I explain issue, he immediately said sounds like controller, after changing all good Avi explained through out process what/ why he was doing. Again, I am very satisfied with outcome and signed up for their maintenance program. Hopefully Avi will be the tech that comes out.

Back up generator maintenance. Renewed plan for five years. Dealings with American Mechanical are always of the highest quality. I really appreciated their notification that the maintenance contract needed renewal.

I needed a plumber first thing in the morning before my countertops and new sink were installed. I made my appointment 2 weeks in advance and could not get a scheduled time until the morning of my appointment. It's hard to make arrangements with other contractors when you don't know when the plumber will arrive. The job is not complete yet because the sink caulking has to cure for 24 hours. I did notice while cleaning up under my sink that it is soaking wet from when the plumber was here this morning. Had to remove the shelf liners for it to dry before he comes back tomorrow. Hoping the water hasn't ruined the board under the sink.

They had truly the best customer service I have ever received. You know how usually the cable guy says the he'll be there sometime between 11am and 6 pm and you sit around waiting allllll dayyyyy longggg for them? Not with this company! The dispatcher called me several times to update me on the status of the technician and then the technician called me to tell me he was on his way and how far out he was. They even included an email in which you could track how far away your technician was. The technician was polite and had plenty of information and helpful recommendations. As a young new homeowner, I will definitely be using their services again and recommending them to all of my friends and coworkers. Thank you!

I had Rich Peterson come out to inspect and quote the semi emergency work needed on my shower. He came and inspected and saw what was a poor midnight attempt to get water restored to the house, I understand there are correct ways of going about plumbing and what he walk into was not correct at all but it is what was on hand at the time. I wasn’t actually there and upon completion of his quote I get a phone call from Rich scolding me and borderline complaining along with other occupants in the house who said he wouldn’t stop complaining. Extremely unprofessional in my opinion, I will never want nor have him in my household again. The following day I had Orville Peters come to the household and as per some other occupants at the house he was professional and was done in about 20 minutes. Sadly from the way rich acted I will never recommend so if you have a choice go somewhere else.

The tech was great, however the dispatchers sent him to 3 other jobs before mine and so he arrived a few minutes before 5 when my appt window was from noon to 2. He quickly realized he needed to talk to tech support but by then it was after hours and so tech support and the scheduling center were closed. Had to pay 85 dollars for what I already knew and then nearly 500 dollars just to have another tech come out (at an unknown time) and call tech support back. Hopefully I can update this review if things go smoother.

I had a plumbing issue that needed to be resolved quickly and they were able to schedule me lightening quick, send a knowledgeable and capable tech who diagnosed and fixed the issue quickly. Cost was little higher than expected, but the fact that they were professional and easy to work with without a lot of hassle was worth the money spent.

Phillip with American Mechanical did a great job for me today. He solved problems with toilets, hot water heaters, and outdoor faucets. I am extremely pleased! I love the new Toto toilets, and the expansion tank on the hot water heater has solved the pipe shudder trouble. Phillip completely rebuilt a bathtub/shower faucet from the 1980s to correct a leak. I am very grateful!

Central air unit went out after 23 years and had a new system installed. System is much better and more efficient than previous system. We were concerned about hearing water in the walls to find out there wasn't any issues concerning it. Altho there wasn't any major work performed; Phil and Devon gave great input on the matter and provided helpful solutions.

We have a Goodman heat pump that is not working properly. Last week we had a tech come out to look at our system. Unfortunately he came at the same time we had a window installation going on. Since he couldn't really do diagnostics with work going on above the unit we paid the fee for him coming out and was told they would dispatch someone the next day to actually look at the system and help figure out what was going on. Didn't hear from them the next day.Eventually I put in a new request online and never heard from anyone. After contacting them this morning I was told that since my visit last week they now no longer service Goodman systems and that they were sorry they could not get help me.Seems crazy to me and just wanted to share my experience.

American Mechanical installed our new gas boiler and On Demand hot water heater in January. They came for our check up today and went over everything very thoroughly. We are very happy with the work they did for us.

Customer service was awesome!!! But the technician that came out, informed me a part went bad on the water heater, and that it should be still under warranty. However, it wasn't the part....it was simply the gas was turned off. The tech from the other company says the first guy should have tested to insure gas was turned on FIRST!!! How he missed that is crazy to me. But the company was very friendly and worked me in a busy schedule, so not sure if I would call them again.

Orville was great replacing my hot water heater. He gave me an honest diagnostic before recommending the replacement. He gave me a fair price, gave me a tutorial and informed me about the warranty. Matt was excellent!He evaluated the system found the problem and gave me three options to consider and answered all of my questions.

The company charges $85 to come out and then a flat rate of $460 to repair a clogged drain. No one told me this policy until after the Plummer arrived. My disposal is new. I could’ve bought a new drain line and a new disposal and had money left over for that price. But because no one told me that ahead of time, I had to pay the $85 for no work done. This is trickery and I am considering reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau.

Super helpful and knowledgeable, walked me through financing the work too. Jason, the technician, went above and beyond to get my outdoor electrical panel, done the same day. We had just found out about the damage and potentially hazard it would cause and he personally replaced it so that I could have piece of mind when I was away from home. Did all of it, by himself, in 90+ degree weather. I can't thank him enough.

I decided to upgrade my complete hvac system since my house was built in the 50s and used oil. I had them quote me for the installation of a new gas furnace and AC unit. I felt the price was fair and they gave me a deal since I was paying in full. They removed my old unit and installed the new system in about a day and their crew was polite and professional. Days later we realized the furnace seemed to be tilting heavily. One of their technicians came to check on it and said it was installed improperly so they had another team come out a few weeks later to fix it. The heat worked, the AC worked but ever since ive had the new unit in my house ive gotten little to NO air in my back 2 bedrooms. My house is small and this wasnt an issue with the previous system. Over the last 2 years ive had them come out a few times to try and diagnose the issue, in a nutshell ive had 3 different technicians tell me 3 different answers. Then they report it back to the shop to get an idea of solution / potential cost for me to pay (for potentially a bad install or issue on their end not installing a splitter?) and ive yet to get a real answer to solve the issue. I have a good friend who works for them as a technician and hes taken his own time coming over after work hours to try and find a solution, but yet when he reports it back to them nothing happens again and again. Its been at least 2 years.I paid in full, I have worse heat than my system from the 50s and it constantly runs since 2 of my bedrooms stay ice cold due to lack of air flow...then I get to pay the high gas bill due to a poorly operating unit. This is the first review Ive ever left anyone. If they finally fix the issue ill gladly update it. Otherwise id recommend not wasting your money. I wish I didnt.

I had made an appointment 2 weeks prior to the service date. They confirmed the day before at 8:30am and would provide the timeframe the plumber would arrive the day of the appointment. I called in at 9am since I'd not receive a confirmation, only to be told that they would not be able to make the appointment request that day, and needed to reschedule, citing employee shortage. I ended up calling Jim Bertolino plumbing, and they accommodated without issue. I have used American Mechanical before. Although I was happy with the service, I was displeased with the billing process. They wouldn't provide a detailed bill (list of parts and labor,etc). Only a flat rate was given.

The cost was too much, and still had to pay 85.00 for a service cost, just to install a new thermostat stack, which was 500 dollars, to install, and I had paid for my own stack. Another company will cost me 230 dollars to be installed, please call around and get other cost for any A/C work

After having multiple people/companies (including the city) come out and essentially tell me I needed to spend obscene amounts of money to fix my problem (which wouldn’t have) Rich was a real dude, shot me straight, and got my issue diagnosed correctly and my family taken care of after two months of jetting, multiple clean-outs and pvc replacement.

They,,-and most others from American Mechanical, have made me feel secure in recent years, and currently, about the plumbing and HVAC systems in my 42 year old home in VA Beach. The office staff and department managers are outstanding in their customer service and people skills, further enhancing American Mechanical's reputation for excellence.

Plumbing leak repair. Nick was awsome. Very professional and very detailed and friendly. Would use service again but was very disappointed that it took 8 days from first call to completion of solving the problem. I guess the reason in these times is always staffing shortages.

They Installed my generator several years ago, and have stood by the warranty no question asked for two visits relating to Generac issues. Called at around 10am with a problem and they were there the same day and fixed before I got home from work on a Friday , under warranty without a dollar spent by me. Duane and his team did a great job! 10/5 stars restoring power to my recess lights and outlet. I had contacted a couple companies before and they would not be able to find the issue, and one even told me that I had to have new wiring put in and they would have to tear into my wall. I started to worry that it would become a large project. Duane took the time to diagnose the issue properly and troubleshoot it. I am happy that I won't be needing to tear up my walls!

American Mechanical seems like a good company. Tim McDonald was a good rep. However, I felt that his proposal was out sizing our project. We have a 1550 square foot house. He was recommending a 3 ton unit and larger ducts all around. We calculated that we only needed a 2.5 ton unit and just a few larger ducts. Also, he recommended an 18,000 BTU ductless mini split for our 288 square foot uninsulated 3 season room. Everybody knows that it’s better to go a little bit smaller and run a longer cycle, than have an oversized unit that turns off too often and doesn’t properly dehumidify. We calculated that a 12,000 BTU unit was adequate. Lastly, American Mechanical only recommends TRANE and Mitsubishi. Although solid brands, they are overpriced and we ended up going with a company that had comparable units from other manufacturers as well.

I had a 50 gallon gas water heater replaced. My technician, Phil, was very professional and pleasant. He explained what he was going to do and then completed the job. I was pleased by the plumber American Mechanical sent for plumbing inspection and repair for sink plumbing and two toilets.Plumber Raymond Hefin was punctual, friendly, and efficient.

So I chose Amer Mech, based on their reviews and they had done service 2 yrs ago. But, beware! After tech installed Freon, the air from the outside unit was no longer blowing up. Instead air was blowing out the sides. My husband took it apart and saw they had wired the fan in backwards. He wired white wire with black wire. It’s supposed to be white to white, black to black and if you didn’t know you surely would have noticed air wasn’t blowing up! Also stated my condenser coils needed cleaning for $600. Really? Look at my pics my husband took. Then he asked me if I would leave him a 5 star review. Glad I waited to leave review. And they are licensed HVAC TECHS?? This was deliberate sabotage to get me to buy a new unit becuz he saw mine had some age to it, but only 10 yrs. Just beware. Go with a family owned company imo.

I was really pleased with the prompt response and the recommendations. How communicative they were made my day, it helped ease the stress of finding a reputable company for the repairs. I also loved how informative they were by ensuring that I knew when the technician was going to arrive.

Absolutely terrible company. I wouldn't pay anyone to utilize their services. I had them come out to replace my front water main line. The employees were very rude, and completely unprofessional. They put a hole through my wall into my house, shoddy patch work job on my foundation, didn't clean up any of their work, broke the drywall in multiple spots on my garage, put all their excess trash in my flower beds out front. I've been calling for a month now to get the problems remedied and they never call back. Now it's going to cost me $1000 to fix all the damages they caused.

We recently purchased a generac generator. A week ago the weekly diagnostic test terminated. I called American Mechanical with the fault code I received. Avi responded today and diagnosed the issue and resolved it. He was professional and responsive. He was a specialist. I am glad he took great care of us.

I contacted several plumbing companies for a plumbing leak issue and American Mechanical was the only company that would provide service in a reasonable time frame. I spoke with Tanya at dispatch and she was able to schedule a technician within a few hours. Raymond Hedin from AM's plumbing team arrived later that day as scheduled. He kept me apprised of his arrival time and went right to work to get the issue resolved. Ray provided a thorough explanation of what would be required including a detailed estimate. The work was completed quickly including a complete clean up. Work on the computer run the treadmill power knocks out. Had an amazing experience today with American Mechanical! My technician was Stephen Ferro!!! He really took his time to explain everything to me! We never knew our outlets had been wired wrong via (backstabbing is the term) which causes a domino effect of power outages super frustrating losing power all the time doing simple tasks! Mr. Ferro was so polite and professional I will be telling everyone my experience. I’ve included a pic of how bad it was before and never knew. Will be getting all our outlets corrected with American Mechanical.

Avi responded to our service call to trouble shoot our 20KV Briggs and Stratton whole house generator. He checked everything out and corrected the fault display and ensured the generator was working / transferring / handling the load properly before leaving this morning. He also showed us how to clear this fault ourselves and also put the generator into the proper modes depending on the circumstances. His visit was OUTSTANDING and his professionalism and attention to detail was VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

I have not used American mechanical yet, as I am currently just gathering estimates to replace my HVAC system. However, from start to finish they have been professional and easy to work with. Scot F. came to my house to give me a free estimate, and he did a very thorough job inspecting my old system and reviewing with me all of the ins and outs of installing a new system. He was not pushy at all but very informative and knowledgeable of what needs to be done. I appreciate that he did not try to upsell a bunch of stuff that I did not need. Their prices are also very competitive. If you're looking for a new HVAC system I would definitely check into American Mechanical!

I bought a system from American Mechanical less than 2 years ago. In the 2 years that I have owned this system I have had to make just as many service calls as the 20 year old system that they replaced in the last five years that I had it. In other words I have had just as many problems with a brand new “best ever” system in the first two years as a system that was one it’s “last leg” over a five year period. The last service call I had resulted in someone coming out and not fixing anything then instead of sending someone out the next day, I’m not even contacted to say they can’t make it. I’m not sure if I got a lemon HVAC unit or just poor service. …Maybe both.

Dennis called me back within 5 minutes of my requesting help with my heating system and arrived within 30 minutes of the call. He diagnosed the problem, quoted the cost, put in new parts and finished the repair within 1 hour. Dennis was a very pleasant and professional gentleman.

Great communication and very professional. I appreciate that he put on shoe covers when he entered our home and I was given a precise time of arrival with their technician tracking link. Raymond gave me all the pros and cons of both options for my water line installation and the estimate was exactly what was charged. Called to have leak detection done. Was told their technician is so good he can diagnose & find leaks 99% of the time. I was hesitant, but took a leap of faith. Sure enough he found the leak right away, repaired it all in less than 2 hours for under $700. The first quote we got from another company was dig up entire front yard & repair all pipe to street for $6200. Glad I didn’t fall for that scam. Thank you Nick & partner for helping us for almost 1/10 of the cost. Will definitely call on American Mechanical in the future & refer to others.

UPDATE: After my review below i spoke with Brittany and she listened to my complaint and took ownership to resolve the issues that I had with previous service call. I am very thankful to Brittany for addressing every concern and taking actions to further remediate those issues. Thanks again and I will be using this company again.I called to get our HVAC system checked for regular tune up. The communication was great, no problem scheduling and very courteous over the phone. The day of the service call when the tech came, I saw the tech pull up and sat outside in his truck for about 15 minutes and once he came up to me the first thing he mentioned is getting an annual plan, not what I wanted to hear before he even started to inspect my HVAC. Then he proceeded to check the outside unit and shortly after that he came inside the house to inspect the unit in the upstairs attic. From that point on he didn't speak to me for hour n half occasionally going to his truck and staying there for a while. My kids were home n being little they like to speak to new faces so my daughter said hi and he didn't even acknowledge her. Anyways, after he finished told me what he found, gave me options which I have to take his word for since I know nothing of HVAC systems he left and didn't even offer to clean up the fallen attic insulation all from upstairs down to the front door or move my ladder back down to the garage that I carried for him upstairs in the first place. Lastly, he didn't want to honor the coupon that was on their own website. Horrible customer service!

DO NOT use this company for water heater repair/replacement. They said they would call me with a confirmation they would be able to do the repair and never did. I had another company out and then they showed. When I called the office twice to resolve the matter, they pushed me off the phone and never called me back. On top of it, the repair didn’t fix the problem! They automatically charged me the repair cost and I still have a broken water heater despite them saying they would call me back to resolve it. They are not professional. Not trustworthy. If you’re reading this, do not use them. I hope my review convinces at least one person not to use them because then they can lose out on maybe the cost of the repair they unfairly charged me.

Dan was highly proficient and performed all of the preventive maintenance on my emergency generator in a thoroughly professional manner. He showed how much he enjoys the work he does. I would be pleased to have him come back for the next regularly scheduled maintenance.

Jason came to perform an electrical inspection and fix a light fixture in my house. He was very helpful and listened to all my concerns. This is the third or fourth time I’ve used American Mechanical and they’ve always been great.

We had a technician come out because our heating bill is extremely high past two months. When the technician came out he ran a diagnostic test that cost $85. Just to tell us that he needed to run another test for $300 because there is a suspected leak. He also told us that we were low on refrigerant but that he couldn’t move forward until he performed the leak test. He then proceeded to tell us that the leak test might not tell him anything and that at that point he would need to run a different test. At this point we asked him exactly what was wrong with the system and he could not give us an answer, he simply told us we should just get an entire brand new system and he set us up an appointment to have someone come out and give us a quote for an entire new system. Please keep in mind our system is only seven years old.We decided to have a different company come out and inspect our unit. Theres NO LEAK & we ARE NOT low on refrigerant.THE Thermostat was set wrong and the capacitor was low on energy … THATS IT. Simple replacement of the capacitor, under $300 fix.Our heating system is now working perfectly NO THANKS to American mechanical. If you would like to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars for them not to fix your equipment, then this is the company for you!

The technician came to diagnose a water leak in the ceiling. After cutting a hole in the drywall, he determined that the issue was with the HVAC system. No problem, however, the hole that he cut was made using a dull/improper tool. It tore the drywall up, destroying portions of it in the process. I have included a picture that I took after I began drywall repairs, to show how badly this drywall was cut. I dont have a problem with the fact that the call cost $125 for him to simply cut the wall and determine the leak was someone else's responsibility, but at least spend $10 and outfit your technician with a quality drywall saw. Now I have to spend 5 times longer preparing the drywall before repairing it myself.

We have never been disappointed in all the years using AM. I'm most impressed by the consistency in the service level no matter the employee. Nick was very friendly and informative . The staff goes above and beyond in communicating appt and arrival.

The person showing up was pleasant enough, however.The job was to replace an expansion tank located at the water heater. This is only a half hour job, including set-up, cleanup.American mechanical wanted $550 to perform this service.The expansion tank cost, at the most, $100.That translate to $1000/hour service rate.Really, $1000 hourly charge..I know inflation is up but this flagrant over charging is absurd.I will perform this simple task myself in the end and rethink my use of American mechanical ever again.

American Mechanical, Inc. came to my apartment looking for a leak on my water service. Because of my extremely high water bill. They determined that there is no leak and that the Portsmouth,Va. Water meter is faulty. The meter is charging me for 456.256 gallons of water for every 5 gallons actually used.Thanks again American Mechanical for helping me determine the problem.

Outrageously over priced. Plumber took advantage of 86 year old woman to charge over $700 for less than an hour's work. Yes she agreed because she felt she had no choice. Very poor business practice.In response to the American Mechanical reply, the reply is disingenuous at best. If American Mechanical is proud of charging $710 for an hour's work for an elderly lady afraid of water dripping in her unit, then so be it. Future customers should know that American Mechanical will stick with its unfair business practice (admittedly legal) rather than do the right thing. American Mechanical should be ashamed not proud. They hide behind caveat emptor, buyer beware. We are now wary of any further work with this firm.

American Mechanical was a second opinion from a friend who did some research. I needed a new Crane 3 ton unit and since so expensive wanted to make best decision. I have been happy with my other company in the past but I didn't feel like they were very attentive. I appreciated how timely they were with my FREE estimate. Professionally written out and emailed. They are technically advanced with their notifications confirming, reminding and noting arrival. Kim was wonderful answering any questions and provided two window units for A/C when had to wait a week. Dillon A and his team were amazing. They worked late into evening to complete a large job and then took time showing me how everything worked and I could tell he was proud of his work and the quality they provide. Additional team members came over to assist to ensure the job was complete. American Mechanical clearly puts money back in their employees and company and I am very pleased I decided to go with them. Additionally, Dillon had a young apprentice he was guiding and he was very patient and kind.

Two weeks ago I ordered a job in the electrical department of this company.The day before the service, I received a text message that the technician should be at my home today.I confirmed that I would be at home and will wait.However, on the day of the service, I received a call from the American Mechanical operator that they were loaded and put me on a waiting list.When I called again in the middle of the day, the operator said that I was not on the service list, she can put me on the waiting list but does not guarantee service.The manager wasn't in the office.I got frustrated and ordered a service from another company.I did called American Mechanical, and canceled my order.

I had a leak under my slab. Rich came out, chiseled out the concrete to find the leak that was detected. He had to chisel up more concrete because there were actually four leaks. He repaired the pipe and replaced the concrete. Also provided me with more information about getting pipe replacement. Very professional, insightful and helpful. I'd recommend Mechanical and Rich specifically to others.

We had a new HVAC system installed and I am so impressed with the quality of work and professionalism of both Bobby M and Darren F. and their team. Both were professional and worked hard to finish the job on time. We are very confident in the quality of their work. They both were obviously experts in heating and air conditioning. At the start of the job they went thru the job order and went over everything they were going to do and then when they were finished we reviewed everything that was done . Our old water heater was halfway out the door, so we called American Mechanical to the rescue. They responded promptly and sent their tech, Rich, that very day. Rich came on time, inspected our old unit and found, as expected, that one of the elements was as dead as Jacob Marley. We arranged with him for a top quality replacement unit that would fit the spot where the old one was, but better. He pointed out the wiring and pipe problems, which were never satisfactory and potentially unsafe, in addition to the fact that the old unit was really too short, so that it had to be placed on cider blocks.Rich returned the next morning as promised, even earlier than expected, disconnected the old unit, fixed the piping issues which had looked Frankensteinian, and cleanly installed the new unit, with everything fitting as it should, taking the time to explain exactly what he was doing and why all the way through the procedure. He tested everything to make sure it was working properly and cleaned up the area.The new unit may have been more expensive than we had expected, but we trusted American Mechanical to do the job right, and they certainly did. Rich was top notch and very professional. There is a reason we went with American Mechanical. They have earned our repeat business.

Although this call was to get a quote to upgrade our panel, I love that all the techs American Mechanical sends are always pleasant and easy to talk to. Most of their techs are really good--knowledgeable and generally do good work. Like a lot of these semi-larger companies, they're not going to be the cheapest quote, but they do stand by their work in our experience. We've had them do a lot of work over the past five or so years--generator, HVAC overhaul, tankless water heater, electric, plumbing, etc. and generally happy. Sometimes coordination between various departments can be messy though, if you have more than one project going on at the same time, but again, the workers who come out to the house tend to do good work.

Easy to schedule, sent reminders of service and time, call in morning to let me know when I was on schedule for day, called and texted when on way, did quick assessment of job provided estimate and knocked out work, cleaned up, provided overview of work and departed. Great job by Dan.

Worked through to finish today, but no shortcuts. Tommy definitely knows what he’s doing. And Justin, all the hard work to correct issues with ductwork, much appreciated. You guys rock!Tim tried to sell us a concrete block to place in front of the unit, that we already had & replace a newer heat unit. We got it straight with my husband on the call, but it should not have occurred. Seemed we paid above average, but the crews were great. Anything that needed twicking they were on it and for them I rate 5. The overselling, a billing correction that should have been communicated 3 months, instead calling months later with a “wrinkle”, poor/incorrect communication, and the added stress caused, a lower score was warranted.

The service I ordered was to fix a hard wired doorbell that I spray painted lol. (FYI: Don’t spray paint your hard wired doorbell! Just buy a new one with a different color if you can - which is what I had to do as well.) So I called American Mechanical who came out and they had to run new doorbell wiring because it was old and bad in general. 1st Master Electrician Rodney who performed the inspection / diagnosis was professional, on time and informed me I would need new wiring. 2nd Master Electrician Jason who performed the re-run of new door bell wiring was also professional, on time and completed the job. Both gentlemen were friendly, knowledgeable, listened to everything I asked and went above and beyond. Pricing was little high but was well worth the service all around. Therefore, I highly recommend this company! Thank you I couldn’t be any happier!

Great company! From beginning to end they were courteous, professional, and technically intelligent. My husband and I have encountered quite a few companies that were more interested in doing a job and getting paid versus this company that did a great job and went above and beyond.

Reviewing again because this seems to be the only way I can get in touch with the owner.To follow up on my original review, we were never contacted before the holiday weekend. As we're the consumers PLEADING to have a conversation about an $1,800 dispute, we were each waiting by our phones last week.The owner's promise on their website reads: My employees and I know how to get the job done, and done right (the first time). Because we charge by the task and not the hour, our customers always know they’re getting an honest price and a great value. --- This couldn't be more inaccurate.We finally got in touch with the Service Manager 7/6 after we threatened legal action, and we had about three conversations with him throughout the course of the day. Not once did they apologize for our experience or their mistakes.Most importantly, we still had our original thermostat in the home; in order to double check their work, we replaced THEIR thermostat with our original thermostat. Turns out, our original thermostat works fine and AC has been cranking ever since, indicating they replaced a part that was never malfunctioning and charged us (we're estimating) about $500-700. They offered to refund us about $800 of the $1,800 we've paid - once we return the thermostat and to account for warranty pricing on the Board (which they never initially honored). We don't find this solution acceptable or fair. And would be naive not to question the other charges, since they replaced a perfectly working thermostat - less than 3 years old. As of 7/7, we have countered and asked for reimbursement on the ACF Board they claimed to be malfunctioning, and are willing to pay for the original diagnostic fee + clearing of the lines. We've even offered to remove any negative reviews if reimbursed for what we believe is fair.We have repeatedly asked for a breakdown of parts versus labor in writing and they refuse to provide.We have yet to receive closure,. I am not in the business to destroy other companies' reputations, but simply informing others to be vigilant of this type of service. We have given American Mechanical countless opportunities to make this right and we're very frustrated at this point.

I DO NOT recommend this company. AVOID American Mechanical of Virginia Beach.Very dishonest way of doing business.Initially very courteous and accommodating, but that changes once you've signed the contract. Do NOT buy their service plan, it's worthless.They have poorly trained technicians who do not take pride in the work they provide. In my case they misdiagnosed the problem and billed me for the repairs that weren't necessary. Replaced parts that didn't need replacing, simply so they could charge me more.I called American Mechanical, Inc. because of the proximity to my house and the great reviews (their 5 stars reviews are fake).My HVAC unit was about 4 yrs. old. I had to replaced it once they were done servicing it.I found out afterward that the cost of the part that needed to be replaced was only $8.20. The cost of parts and labor should have been $100 - $150. Everything else that was done was unnecessary work to the tune of $1,200. Very costly to me and very profitable American Mechanical.My HVAC got damaged because:- since the $8.20 valve was not replaced, AC was running but not moving the air which led to the ice forming on the coil overnight.- when informed about the problem, American Mechanical eventually dispatched an unlicensed HVAC trainee that was performing the repairs unsupervised by their licensed tech, Manie.- the unlicensed/unsupervised HVAC Tech damaged my AC unit by trying to defrost the coils by hammering on it with a tool.When confronted he denied and claimed that the damage was done before hand.Their very lengthy contract stated that I authorized all the work that was performed. I had no recourse.Don't do business with American Mechanical, Inc. of Virginia Beach. You will regret it if you do.

Me and my wife found this gentleman from American Mechanical to be very Arrogant, he told us that he wouldn't help us unless we let do the job; the way he recommended. He said otherwise it was worth his time to just do what we wanted done.

My water heater stopped working over the weekend and I was unable to fix it . American Mechanical was very helpful on the phone and ended up coming very early on Monday morning. Phil, the technician, was very informative and quickly solved the issue. He was honest and I appreciated that a lot. Will definitely be using American Mechanical again and works recommend them to family and friends!

This has led to numerous rescheduling. Shawn was absolutely amazing. He got here within 30 min of my call and was able to repair the damage to my shower valve piping. He showed me each step that he did and explained why he did the things he did and made the changes that he did. Avoid this company if you can. $500 to change a capacitor that cost about $20 on my A/C, that took under an hour. Serviceman changed it before telling me how much it was going to be, then showed me the invoice and basically said I agreed to have it changed for that price. Then said he could take it out if I had a problem with it... The invoice had no cost breakdown of how much anything cost. I tried calling the main office twice with no call back. When I finally was able to talk to someone, they admitted up front that they were more expensive than other companies in town. They also said their prices are like menu items, and that they don't do cost break downs. So they can essentially make up any price they want. Terrible company and customer service.

American installed a Honeywell generator for me in July 2020. The next day, I began having problems with one of my AC units. Installers ran two cables, one from each compressor, to the transfer switch. The service man American sent out, said the problem was the compressor. I had my AC contractor come out, and he verified the compressor was in good working order. The second service man American sent out, said the problem was in my electrical panel. I called and electrician, he came by and said the panel was not the problem. The third service man American sent out, found the problem. He said the original installers, had the wires on the end of the cable, touching, which was shorting out my AC system. He separated the wires, and I have not had a problem since. When I asked to be reimbursed for the money I spent on the electrician, and AC service calls, American said it wasn't their fault, that the circuit breaker in my panel was to small for the unit. It is very interesting, that in the 18 years I have lived in this house, I never once, had a problem like this, and haven't had one since . I asked to speak with someone in management, but could not get a response. It is a shame what people will do, not to take responsibility for their own actions.

They were at my house within 20 minutes, found and fixed the leak, and cleaned the condensate line so it wouldn’t happen again. Do not recommend using this company unless you have a hefty home insurance plan that will cover them. Technician tried to convince me to pay them 1200 dollars to change out a part that only cost me 106$ brand new from the factory.Update * Turns out that the gas valve they wanted to replace was not the issue at all. One of the sensors to the valve needed to be replaced. Which only would have cost me an extra 1000 dollars to replace the consumbales, as the technician called it.

I called American Mechanical for an estimate and Jason was incredibly professional, friendly, and informative. I haven’t chosen providers yet but they are absolutely at the top of the list from this interaction. Five stars so far.

I had a whole house generator installed. Jason came and was very informative about the whole process of the instalation and options available. After the instalation Jason came back for the initial start up and again was impressive with his knowledge. A.M. should be proud to have someone like Jason to represent their company.

Paul and Ray did a very professional job of re-piping my home. As extensive as the work was, they made it as painless as possible and the work was completed in a reasonable amount of time. They were very accommodating of my requests and made every effort to control dust and debris. I give them my highest recommendation.

Water leak underneath house. Also used this company to redo out door plumbing a few years back and a new Heating and Cooling system. Can’t say enough about how well they did the job. So very polite and courteous. Also cleaned up everything around my house.

The service they provided was sub par to be honest. I had a gentleman come out to give me a quote and upon completion of it he took my money and left my house and I thought I would get a call for scheduled service. Well, I didn't. I had to reach out to the company to get an install date for my charging station. Which was annoying. The other issue I had was when the installers got to my home, they installed the conduit incorrectly to the house. It was nothing like the estimator had said it would be installed. So I had to call them to get the installation fixed. They didn't deliver the product they said they would, at a time that they said they would, and it caused me to do additional hassle to get the bare minimum.

As always American Mechanical does great work. They called ahead to confirm the appointment. The technician was prompt and very professional. This company does great work at reasonable cost. I have done business with this company for 20 years.

Our power went out and my husband has stage 4 lunk cancer. Your electrician was here in 20 min and got our power back on. He was also very friendly.

The plumbing team was great and did amazing work. The communication from the office wasn’t always the best also pulled plumbers away twice from a week long “scheduled job” making the 3-5 day process last 8 days!

Retightening the shower drain with some putty cost me $ 378.00. I feel it is overpriced. Also they didn’t fix my drywall even though it was cut by them measurement 6x6inch.

Eric came out to check out water leakage coming through our floorboards & traced it to a faulty water pump on our dishwasher. Very knowledgeable, professional & thorough. Would highly recommend! 5 stars!

Terrible customer service. Did not listen to my problem, told me something needed to be fixed on my system and I paid a lot of money for it to be fixed, it did not fix my problem, and then found out they had left a reversing valve off one of my units since the last time I had work done (6 months ago). They came back out again and put that piece back in which did fix the problem (which they caused), and then they would not refund me for the work that they told me needed to be done that did not fix anything. Took them 3 weeks to call me back after my complaint. And they treated me like I was not intelligent. I would not recommend them to anyone.

He discovered a leak in our shower floor and a couple other things that if left unnoticed, would have cost us a lot in repairs. Update: as you can read from my previous reviews, not happy with this company at all. And, it turns out I was further justified. Recently had a great service call with Mechanical Technology. This group is not an hvac dealer nor do they try to sell you a new system.Anyway, first my previous reviews American Mechanical, I really messed up my upstairs system by claiming that I need a new system or that I need a new switchboard for my split system in the upstairs of my home. Mechanical Technology came in and troubleshot the system , found that I needed a new part, small part, got it all back up and working for a minimum cost after being without the split system feature since American Mechanical had disconnected itUpdate: Long time School teacher here. Gave them 2 Assignments and they earned 2 FAILING GRADES07/19/22 - do not trust : part 1 - had a rental property I had a service contract with the this company was supposed to come out twice a year. they have not been out in over 16 months so I called to cancel and they charged me for the remaining 10 months of this existing contract that they renewed without any notification....even though they have not fulfilled their part of the agreement which was twice a year service.part 2 on my home address they wanted to sell me a whole new system even though I already had a train system that was only four years old. Ended up having a company that does not sell the equipment but services air conditioners come out and it was simply a $15 part they need to be replaced.Original post;As a longtime Virginia Beach High School teacher i would have to grade them with the comment not quality work. I had this company out in to take a look at my system.. They did help drain a clogged drain pipe. Then they fumbled around with the air handler wiring for quite some time suggesting that it was not wired properly...made many adjustments(all good). My issue is that the next time the A/C kicked on the air handler shorted out! (thinking must be do to the wiring change). So they send another technician out. He says the same thing wiring all messed up so he messes with the same wiring the other tech, from same company, previously messed with. he can't figure out what caused the fuse to blow so he tells me my split system board must be bad and disconnects. Now i have no split system and no clue where we left the wiring as they want to charge me to replace much. System only 3 years old. Bottom line! = they left it in worse shape than they found it.!!!!

Atomic Plumbing already came out, looked at it for 5 mins and said they couldn't do anything and then charged me $80 even after accepting the job on the phone. Which is BS!Dennis was the EXACT opposite. He knew exactly what was going on. Said it was easy work and had all the tools and materials needed to get the job done! Disconnected some pipes and then even made the system more efficient with better connections than were on there initially to prevent any future leaks. Prices were excellent and he was efficient with his time with quality work.I will never ever use Atomic Plumbing again but Dennis and American Mechanical have a customer for life! Highly recommend you give him a call if you want the job done right the first time!

Called sixteen days ago to report a condensate leak in my ductless mini split system. The techs arrived the next day; they were polite and punctual. Fifteen days and 580.00 dollars later, I still have a condensate leak in my ductless mini split system. Not quite the gold standard of service I expected. Called once since for an update and the response was less than informative. Will call again and hope for a service that will equal 580.00 minus double talk or generic corporate apologies.
