My A/C went out on a Sunday and I called A-1American and they came out first thing in the morning. The technician Jake B came and fixed the problem and got the A/C back working. Jake was very professional and answered all my questions I had about the broken unit. I highly recommend A-1 American for your service needs.

The heat index was 115 in my area and it got up to 90 degrees inside. Our 2 small children and my wife's cat were not faring well. The technician who came out was very polite and professional. He was able to diagnose and fix the problem in under an hour. He was also able to provide advice on how to take care of our cooling unit as well as explain to me how the system works. I would definitely recommend A-1 to anyone needing A/C repair.

Chris did a great job with adversity of the plumber here who screwed up the job to begin with the day before. He did a wonderful job and left the place cleaner than he found it. He was very professional and is a great asset to A-1. As a business owner myself, it is tough to keep good people and I wish Chris the best of luck and hope he stays with the A-1 team so I can call on him again in the future when I build my home in North Carolina

I called on Thursday for an appointment on Friday at 3PM. I was told there would be someone would contact me 1 hour before. I took off work early to be home for the appointment. 3PM came and went, and around 6PM I got a call from the A/C Tech that he got the ticket at 430PM on Friday.

Frustrated, I then rescheduled for 3PM on Saturday. No show once again without a call. This is poor business practice and I will not ever recommend A-1 American. Two days wasted. Poor customer service, and thankfully did not spend any money.

I had a great experience with the technician named Larry. He was quick, efficient, and got my hot water working again in just a few hours. The price was expensive, however, this was expected due to the fact that my hot water heater also heats my house (Apollo heating system). Since I had this old heating system, A-1 was actually the only company out of 3 that I called that even came out to help me with my water heater issues. Thank you, again!

A-1 American gouges their prices...On June 26, 2013, my 80 year old mother called on the services of A-1 American 1620 Centerville Tnpk, Ste. 113, Virginia Beach, Va. 23464. Her cold air was not working on her central air conditioning unit. The technician, Doug Jackson arrived & charged her $550 ($100 per lb) for 5 1/2 lb's of freon. He immediately left without checking if it fixed the initial problem. Well, it didn't. The cold air never worked. My mother called a contractor who immediately came over, took readings with his meter (stated that no freon had been added). He added 1 lb. of freon & installed a thermostat my mother had purchased (at the total cost of $70). Finally, I called & spoke with Christina the very next day at A-1 to ask why my mother was charged $550 & the tech left without fixing the problem. She assured me that her supervisor, John O'Hara would call me back the same day. NOTE: It has now been 5 days & no call!!! Funny how they respond when it comes time to steal your money...DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME NOR MONEY dealing with companies with an F rating on the BBB. I will never allow this company to defraud my family again...Sabir

The good- Leak is fixed and the plumber was nice/professional.

The bad- They advertise you pay by the job not the hour. Well that didn’t work out so well for me. $689 for 2 hours of work- reset upstairs drain and sealed shower faucet. The only materials used was some sealant. That’s nearly $350 an hour and that didn’t include repairing the drywall that was cut into. Not that I expect a plumber to do drywall but for nearly $700 I would have expected some 24k gold leafing on the pipes. I’ve had entire bathrooms re-plumbed in renovations for that price. I felt taken advantage of as it was clear I was desperate to get it fixed as I just moved in and was the only one home at the time.

We called A-1 American because of a pluming problem. They sent Brian. He checked what needed to be done, gave us a quote and said it wouldn't take long. He and his assistant were courteous, did what he said they were going to do and left the bathrooms spotless. This was our first time using A-1 and if we need any more work, we will definitely be calling them back. We rate them a 5.

Even though the techs were very professional my experience with this company has left a sour taste in my mouth. When you replace an inline water valve for a water tank with a twenty dollar replacement valve and charge 500 dollars it is a little hard to swallow. The actual replacement took about 20 minutes. Find it incredibly hard to believe someone would charge this much for that job. I would recommend the techs but the company not so much.

My husband and I were very pleased with Ron Bernard's and Tom's professionalism, courtesy and promptness in completing an excellent job in replacing valves for our hot water heater and washer. We received a phone call thirty minutes before their arrival as promised to us when making the appointment. They even cleaned my laundry room of all debris before leaving including wiping off the washer and dryer! We would highly recommend these two gentlemen to anyone in need of plumbing repairs!!

We called this company at 5:30pm on a Tuesday afternoon and spoke with a technician about our problem. He said that due to our particular problem he couldn't come out until the next day but stated that since we lived close by he would make us his first stop at 8am. Needless to say, we stayed home & waited and then received a call around 9:30 stating that he would be unable to come out until 12:30-1. At that point I advised him that due to our work schedule he would now need to come back out anytime after 3:30. He stated that would be fine & would call me prior to coming out. By 4:30 I had not heard anything so I called the technician again & he said that he couldn't come out & that the main office was reassigning someone else. I called the main number and the representative stated that someone was coming out and would be there soon. No one showed up AGAIN, so I called back at 6:30pm and the on call technician stated that the person was probably running behind and to be patient. Nobody seemed to want to help us at all. Today is now Thursday and I have yet to see someone or hear from anyone. I can guarantee I will not use this company & will not recommend them to anyone.

I will never call this company again. This is my mistake and it is important to learn from mistakes. They ask 785 dollars to unclog the pipe outside the house by using snake for a 20 minute job. I asked their book price after the job done and the lady on the phone replied in a very rude manner saying I should have asked it before the job. No customer relations. Terrible.

Larry successfully repaired a leaking kitchen faucet for us. He was professional, pleasant and patient to answer several plumbing-related questions that I had. I would use Larry at A-1 American again if I have another plumbing problem

We called A-1 American when our guest bathroom toilet began to overflow and would not stop! This is the only bathroom downstairs, and was going to be getting a lot of use the next day as we were having my daughter's 16th birthday party with 30 guests coming! We did not have time for plumbing issues at all as we were preparing for the party. We called A-1 American and we had Ron here within 30 minutes. Ron was polite and very professional, and started on the job right away. Larry arrived 30 minutes later as they needed larger equipment to fix the problem. Ron and Larry had our problem fixed within an hour, much to our relief. Both gentlemen were very helpful, and knowledgeable and explained to us how they had fixed our issue. I would most definitely use A-1 American again!

My emergency arose when I had an after (work) hour back-up in my kitchen sink disposal resulting from a clog in my drain pipes. I also found that my pipes were not securely connected. As I was checking them, they ended up coming apart at the joint and I could not put them back together. I called two other 24-hr plumbing companies, then A-1 American, and A-1 American was most responsive. When I initially talked to the technician on the phone, he was very amenable to my schedule and at my request moved my service call to the end of his day which gave me more time to get home from work the next day. Once the technicians arrived, they were professional, knowledgeable, quickly assessed the problem, and were quite fair and open with their pricing. They completed the job and further gave me some tips to keep the issue from reoccurring. I would without question use A-1 American again if I ended up in another bind.

We just had a major HVAC issue, which resulted in much more than just a new Carrier unit...gas pipes needed updating and most of the existing and ancient duct work needed replacement as well.... in our crawl space. James was the lead on this project with 2 experts Bronson and Kevin doing the extensive make over during high August temperatures. Excellent team work, followed by many expertly performed clean ups. I am very impressed with the success of the project and the patient, courteous and professional manner of all 3..

This is my experience with A-1American,Heating and Cooling Co.on Feb.18th. I was having a heating furnace problem and called these people, they came,charged me $78.00 to look at my furnace and told me it had a cracked heater exchange and could fix it for $2,000 or put in a brand new heater for $ 3,500, they ended up red-flagging and turned off my gas heater which I then had no heat for my house, my husband and I are Elderly Senior Citizens, with quite a few medical problems, they also told us that with the furnace being cracked it could leak carbon monoxide or catch on fire. On Feb.19th. I called another Company, Coastal Heating & Cooling to look at my furnace and they did and told me there was no crack, that the furnace only needed cleaning which they did and turned the furnace ( gas ) back on and it is working fine and charged me a small fee. Woke up today at 5am to find both toilets had overflowed and flooded bathrooms! Called A-1 at 5:30am- I remember the Ad on TV so I called the number listed and a live person answered! CSR took my info and promised a technician would return my call shortly. Being a Saturday I did not have my hopes set for a speedy resolution, but Alas... My awesome technician Ron Taylor called me at 6:15am and advised he would be on site in 45 mins to 1 hour. So I got out the wet vac and started to get rid of the water. 7:15am, my main man Ron Taylor was on the scene, surveyed the trouble and immediately knew it was a main line clean-out. Ron quoted me a price $541.25. Although I was not ready for the sticker shock of a main line clean-out, I agreed and Ron went about his work.
I am happy to say that in less than two hours Ron had the situation resolved. He made sure the water was flushing and flowing correctly. Thank you A-1 American and Ron Taylor for getting this done correctly and quickly.

We called early this morning for a clogged sink and Larry was at the house within an hour and a half. He fixed the clog within 20min and was very professional and kind. After having a handyman come to the house the previous night to try to fix it, and gave up after 3hrs, I was very pleased it was fixed so quickly. We will use A1 American again in the future!

I had a AAA contractor to look at the situation of the leakage that was coming down into my dining room he found that it was the commode he turned off the systems we wouldn't drip anymore A1 later came an hour after that contractor left. A1 evaluate the leaks source which was the commode system. A1 turned the water on the commode and left it on. the system began to leaking again, Since I had to be at work I didn't notice the leaks until after 2 days. He also stated that everything was dry rot it in the commode and he said that he can basically rebuild the commode back at around little over $500 I stated why not get a new commode and he start giving me information that doesn't sound ethical so at that time he didn't do anything but received the money that I paid for him to come and evaluate the leak. The facet was turned off and the tank was low before A,1 arrived
When A1 left the facet was back on and leaking, floor wet and water leaking to the DR ceiling.

If I could rate lower than one star, I would. The customer service, technician work, and company communication has been deplorable - the worst company I've PAID for a service to date. It's been 6 months since the installation of our new ($7.8k) unit and it still hasn't passed city inspection. Our original technician continues to send other sub-contractors in his place who never show up prepared, disappear for hours, and all the while the company receptionist doesn't seem to know who they are or where they are. Despite multiple attempts to contact management - we always get excuses. Based on reviews I have to believe this company does complete the job some of the time correctly - so did we just get stuck with a bad technician who sub'd out his work to whomever was free? I would caution anyone in need of a new unit to do your research before contracting this company. We will be getting our 3rd city inspection in the coming weeks...

I would give them no stars if possible. The tech was rude and short like he had better things to do. He was only here for half an hour at the most and charged around a grand and said there was no guarantee. Of coarse never did fix the problem. Still having issues. They totally took advantage. Be warned.

On a Saturday morning, in the hottest of July days, the AC went out in my elderly mother's home (she cannot climb stairs due to a stroke). After calling three repair companies, one of whom installed the system and told me, since there was a unit working upstairs, it was not considered an emergency and to call back on Monday for a regular service call, and the other two never bothered to return my call, I called A-1 American. The lady listened to me and told me she would submit my repair to a technician who would contact me. Within minutes, I receive a text which gave me the name, Jake, who was the technician assigned to my work order. Jake called and came during the time period he said, he evaluated the unit, and diagnosed the problem. While he did not have the specialty part needed to repair the unit same day, he helped me with strategies to stay cool until he could get a price quote and respond by a specific time on Monday. He kept his word by calling on Monday with a quote and time to install the part. I was impressed and grateful that not only did he set an appointment, Jake made the repair a day earlier than planned.

Before submitting a review, I waited to make sure the unit was fixed. The AC is working better than it did before I made a call. Thank you, Jake, for your professionalism and for being a man of your word.

A-1 American is top notch, I called to let them know that my heating unit was on the fritz and in less than 24 hours Larry and John were at my house to let me know what the problem was and how it could be fixed. They both were very professional and answered every question I had pertaining to fixing my heating unit. They even stayed to make sure that the temperature in the house went up by a few degrees and to make sure that everything was to my satisfaction. I must say that I have and will become a loyal customer to A-1 American Services.

I called A1 American for a water heater replacement and was assisted by a gentlemen named TC. He was with me through the whole process: cost analysis, delivery, installation; he did it all. His communication was superior and his workmanship unmatched. The entire process took only two days and now my family is back to enjoying the comfort of hot water. I highly recommend TC and his company! A+

This company is the biggest ripoff company in the Hampton Roads area. They charged my 90 year old mother in law $858.00 to replace the spicket outside which was leaking through an inside wall of the house. It couldn't have taken 50 dollars in parts and the entire job took 90 minutes. I called and talked to Greg and he told me three times that he was way too busy to talk about such things, and to call back. Several times he was gone home early. Finally got to explain the entire situation to him. He took my phone number and email address to investigate the issue. Twenty minutes later he emailed me saying it was a proper charge according to his pricing book. So, long and short us they charge approximately $533.00 per hour for their labor! If you can afford that, hire them!

We had a major problem with backup overflow from a toilet that required immediate attention. We were pleased with your response to our call and the work of your technician John Sousa. He was very courteous and efficient in clearing the problem to relieve the blockage in our main sewer line. He explained the cost in detail (which was rather expensive) before I approved the work.

I called in on a Friday around mid-day, hoping to get a quote for a new boiler. The representative told me over the phone that they would have someone out that afternoon and if not surely on Saturday. I never got a call of any sorts, not even to say they wounld not be able to make it.

Called for a plumbing repair. They gave me an estimate of over $2K for a $200-300 job. When I paid the $78 to get them the heck off my property and ended up doing it myself for $40 in materials

BEWARE!!! I called A-1 because I had seen their ads, had the magnet with a $50 off coupon. While they were quick to respond, on a Saturday, the technician, James, was here 15 - 20 minutes, changed a hot surface ignitor, and charged me $619 ($669 before the coupon!). He did not tell me the price before installing the ignitor, but did offer to take it out if I didn't want it.
I called on Monday, and John, the Service Mgr., called me back. He was trying, but he was ineffective in communicating with me, and apparently had no authority. He said he was looking at the paperwork, and that James should not have installed the part without telling me. He also said I was gonna call you, because I'm not sure your problem is fixed anyway. James tells me you have some yellow flames which might mean a bigger problem.
I responded so not only have you overcharged me, but now you tell me the problem might not be fixed? (By the way, there was no other problem.) I believe the intent was to try to sell me a new system. I told John we would discuss that after he addressed the fact that I was charged $619 for a $20 part and 20 minutes labor. John said he would speak to James and call me back. It has been over 2 weeks, I have called twice, and no call back.
John told me during our original conversation that A-1 charged me the flat book rate. He would not break down the parts and labor for me, telling me to read the back of the service paper. Further, he told me that new customers pay a more expensive rate than return customers.
This company puts a lot into marketing, complicated web site, etc., at the customer's expense. They arrive promptly and clerical staff are courteous. HOWEVER, WHEN THERE IS A DISPUTE, THEY DO NOT MAKE IT RIGHT. THEIR PRICES ARE INSANE. I HAVE CALLED 3 OTHER COMPANIES AND HAVE BEEN QUOTED BETWEEN $250 AND $350 FOR THE SAME SERVICE, ON A SATURDAY.
Don't be taken in by the American in the name, as I was. Price gouging all the way.

I came home Friday after work and found my bath tub and shower stall with water in it and my toilets leaking water all over my wood floors. I called A-1 American and they sent plumbers John and Larry out and they arrived about an hour later that night. It was a main line clog and difficult for them to dislodge. They did an excellent job and very professional yet personable. I highly recommend A-1 Plumbing.

I called this company because I heard they did good work. Boy was I wrong. Not only did the technician try to cancel my appointment, he showed up looking very unprofessional. He walked in checked my thermostat walked to my outside unit and told me it's frozen there was nothing he could do. He said he would try to return the next day. I got a call the next morning and was asked to make a payment for a diagnosis. I explained there was no diagnosis done and I was not paying $80 for Adam the ( the technician) telling m there was nothing he could do. I was told to never call again for services because it was not fair that he wasn't paid for telling me there was nothing he could do. I will never recommend this company to anyone! I have several rental properties I wanted checked out. You lost a customer forever. So dissatisfied with this company.

we called A1 this morning to see about a toilet replacement. they couldn't guarantee they could get someone out to us today but would try. when I explained we needed them right away Jeremy and Lewis called and made arrangements and got to us first thing. they were here for an hour and did a great job including the clean up. very respectable courteous and professional..i would recommend them to a lot of people.

WOW! Wish I had read some of the reviews prior to having this company out to my house and wasting $78.00 . Lucky for me my issues are not an emergency so I'm only out the 78 bucks and not the almost $800.00 they wanted to charge me to fix 1 leaky shower head (almost 400.00) , 1 leaky bathroom sink (almost 200.00 which was the discounted cost because I was having other work done) and one bathroom faucet handle that was not working properly (needed a pin or something to that effect which was almost $200.00 as well and this was the discount price). The technician went on to tell me that when I call a big name company that has lots of overhead and advertising costs etc that I should expect to pay more then I would if I hired a local one man operation . Guess from now on I'll be hiring a local one man (or woman :) ) operation and save some of my hard earned money for emergency jobs! Just as a footnote for this particular non-emergency job ... after the technicians left and going to YouTube I learned that the cartridge repair parts which I can buy for all the leaks at Home Depot cost about $40.00 total for both leaky sink and shower and it literally is a 10 minute job! That parts cost makes the labor or fixed costs of this company even that much more outrageous.

We called A-1 American because we had water dripping out of the overflow drain. We were told there was a 78.00 service charge that would be applied to any repairs they would have to make. The technician arrived and told us that the main drain was clogged. He put a vacuum cleaner on the output to clear it and drained the water out of the pan under the unit. He then charged us over 365.00 for this. We were shocked. He never once said anything about what the cost was for vacuuming our drain hose. When we questioned him about what the 78.00 was for, he told us that when he knocked on the door, that cost 78.00. He became rude and said that we had to pay for his time, insurance and equipment. I contacted their office and was told that they would have a manager contact us. It has been twenty four hours and no contact yet. We feel like we were taken for a ride on this one. We do not recommend A-1 American to anyone.

The existing heating system went out after 26 years. I found an A-1 American sticker on the old unit. Joe C showed up, gave an estimate and scheduled a heat pump replacement for the next two days. He and Bruce, assisted by Mike for the electrical upgrade, completed and tested the installation in the next day-and-a-half. The unit is performing as expected even though the really cold mid-February temperatures made it work hard. The Team was very professional, sociable, and knowledgeable. I do not expect any problems with the installation, since it has run flawlessly during the initial break-in week. A-1 has my endorsement for HVAC residential installation.

Had a new Rheem water heater installed. Was planning for a tankless system, but the technician showed us why that was impractical for the way this house was designed. I called a1 and they came out within hours of my call. The 2 sevice techs Larry & Mark were extremly professional and knowledgeable about AC & Heating. I replaced both units. They explained everything in detail and had it up and running within a day. They never once complained about the heat in attic 150 degrees. These two techs were the best. Bryan Baines did a very satisfactory job in replacing my main sewer line under trying conditions (ground water seeping into the trench he dug and equipment failure). He worked long hours and late into the evening. He made it as convenient for us as was possible by keeping the water line on. My worst experience ever and I will never call them for service on my AC units again! Tech charged me a total of $425.00 for the service call and R-22. He only checked one unit while he was at the house. The second unit was doing the same thing. I called back to let them know that they needed to come back to check the second unit. They said they would send the same tech back and he never came back or called. I called another company and they came out and did the same thing that their tech did for $186.00 which included the service call and the R-22! There is nothing American about ripping people off and taking advantage of a military families or anyone else. You should be ashame! I wasn't offered any discounts or anything. I will not recommend your company to anyone! The invoice didn't have a break down on how much R-22 was used and the tech was only there for five minutes. Tech told me the coil needs to be replaced for $2,200.00 and that they would take the $425.00 off that price if work was done within 90 days. Price gouging at its best!

I called because my hot water tank was not working. They responded immediately. Larry and John came out to look at it, and informed me that I needed a new water heater. For the price to replace an external faucet I was expecting a professional job!! Contacted company last Thursday and appointment made for Saturday. Technician made contact Saturday morning and stated they were very busy and might arrive that afternoon. No other communications until Sunday at 3:30PM, at which time new appointment made for Tuesday. As displayed in the attached pictures, the old faucet was mounted against the siding and the new faucet was installed protruding about one inch from the siding with some installation tubing wrapped around. Would not recommend A1 American, poor workmanship.

I will be contacting this company for my elderly parents. They were charged $800.00 to have 3 faucets rebuilt. The parts alone are $30.00, the plumber and his son were there less than an hour. My dad has called the office to inquire about the charges and the plumbing supervisor was supposed to call back which has never happened. A1 American is just another company that is taking advantage of the elderly. Makes me sick!

The tech who came to my house went above and beyond with his service. I am very thankful for the work he did. He was also very mindful of my puppy and even put back the wedge I have on my fence gate when he was done with the job. For all the advertising that this company has done it did not even come close to living up to it. I would given them negative stars if I could.
I called them to do a simple main drain clearing. The process, very simple. Run a snake from my homes drain to the city's connect point to clear out a clog. The distance the snake would have to travel is no more than 35 feet. The charge that the great A-1 American wanted to charge was so unbelievable and Un-American that it boggles the mind. First it took them 3.75 hrs to get a technician to my home. That I understand to be typical, its the weekend. The technician looks nothing like what is advertised on TV. The truck was unmarked. The tech was in jeans and filthy. The charge for a service that should and in the past take 20 minutes was quoted to me to be wait for it...........$636.00. You read it correct $636.00 plus the $78.00 service call fee. If I were you and are considering using this company do not do it. They are awful and should be ashamed.

I would give 2.5 stars for A-1 American. It's really the most I can give to be completely fair. I'll start out by saying the work they did was good. They swapped a simple part- not much to it. Now my heat pump fan works again. As for the reason for 2.5 stars; A-1 American was simply the first people to pick up the phone when I was trying to find someone to come out to fix my heat pump fan. They were supposed to come out the next morning between 8-12. They ended up arriving around 2pm. Here's where it gets unsettling. They just did the work without giving a quote or telling me what was wrong. They didn't show us the broken part. They didn't really explain anything. The guy who fixed it made a joke about it being fixed again and then wrote me a ticket. While he was writing it I asked him several times what the cost was going to be and he just kept on with some random story he was telling me about. So finally I just went and got my check book and came out to the shock of a $400 bill for 20 minutes of work. Apparently this is the going rate for this type of repair- which is ridiculous in itself. But now we've tried to call for 4 days to get an itemized invoice and receipt and to let a manger know that they should have their repair men give quotes before doing a job. What was I supposed to do at that point? Tell the guy I wasn't going to pay? I had no choice. He had already done the work. So after 4 days of calling we still have not received a returned call from John- Who knows if John even is a real person but he seems to never be in...

My AC stopped working and then I called A1 the next day. They had a technician come out the day after and he gave us a few options plus a military discount. He was very confident and efficient. He came out the following day and replace my whole AC stop system within five hours. I definitely would recommend Jake Blackburn to anyone with any AC issues. Jake B. was my technician and he came out on Sunday for an emergency concern with the smell of smoke when I turned on my heat. He explained everything to me and we scheduled a service date of Tuesday to install a new HVAC system (mine was 16 yrs old and needed to be replaced). Worst company I've ever dealt with. Our heat went out last March and I called since I had a
$79 coupon to cover the service call if they did the work. The tech looks at the furnace and says our igniter needs to be replaced. Tells me it's $600. I tried to call my husband who was away at a conference but by the time he called back the tech had pressured me into signing. He went somewhere for an hour, came back with the part and replaced it in the furnace. After he left I realized I had forgotten to give him the coupon and called the office. They said sorry, too late. When my husband got back in town he wanted to go to the office with a baseball bat. The igniter is $27 and held in by two screws. Total rip-off and I'm sure no one has ever had a manger return their numerous calls.

My toilet was running so I called A1 American to come fix it. They told me there was an $85 fee but that it would be applied to the cost of the repair. When the plumber arrived, he told me he could rebuild the inside of the tank for $900 that he quoted from his price book. I said what? The toilet only cost $250. I asked how much it would be to install a new toilet and he said 700. I told him I would not be using his company. I went on you tube and it said to replace the seal! I paid $5.00 for the part and it has been fine since. I spoke to Meg, the manager and explained the situation and that I wanted my $85 refunded. Whenever I call, Meg is not available and does not return my calls. Rip off!

We called A-1 American for a minor issue that we were having with a slight leak under our sink. We we spoke to the office they were able to get us on the schedule for the same day (a Friday) and had someone over within a couple of hours. Once Bryan got to our house he was able to identify the problem, show us what was going on and then fix it. That was great - now, the reason I am writing a review is because of what happened next. The following Sunday we saw that it seemed to be leaking again which was frustrating. I was able to get in touch with Bryan directly, he came out the same day (again, a Sunday) and found that our garbage disposal actually had cracked and was in need of repair (just a coincidence - bad things come in waves). He showed us the crack (clearly was older and had been slowly getting worse) had a unit available and took care of it on the same visit. Was an excellent experience, would definitely recommend using them.

Horrible customer service!!!! Called three times to try and get my home air conditioner serviced. The first time I called at 0800 and was told they would call me back. By 4 o'clock I still never received a call back. So I called a second time and talked to ray. He also told me he would call me back and never did. So an hour later I called for a third time and I was told that they were closed and Ray was gone from work....Wow ok. You just lost business and money.

A-1 American is about as crooked as they come. They charged me $800 to run a brush through the coils on my outdoor AC unit to clean off some dirt then spray something on there. The whole thing took less than an hour and that didn't even correct the issue. I definitely will not be using them again.

Meg started the process, she’s awesome, my father in law passed away in August, I am here helping with his estate. The air handler has been leaking for well a long time...David called when he knew he would arrive, he was early, he assessed the situation, repaired the problem, walked me through the whole issue, took pictures and offered me an invoice which was more than fair, fixed the concern and explained the long term to me. David is truly a professional, experienced, Master at his craft. The HVAC system in this house is under warranty yet I will never have the original folks out again, only David. Just had a new furnace installed by A-1 American and was totally satisfied with the experience. Jake came out to repair our old 20+ year old furnance on a Saturday that had quit working again. He recommended that it was time to quit reparing the old one, which he was willing to do, and purchase a new unit. With all of the cupons and such we got a great deal on a 3ton Multi-Pos Furnace. Jake came back Monday morning with the new furnace and we now have heat. Thank you A-1 American and especially Jake for making the whole experience such a worry free event.

A-1 AMERICAN WAS CONTACTED ON 8/15/2017. I WAS TOLD THAT A TECHNICIAN WOULD CALL BEFORE GOING ONSITE, WOULD CALL WHEN AN ESTIMATE WAS READY AND THEN WE COULD PROCEED WITH REPAIRS. IT TOOK 4 PHONE CALLS TO GET THE TECHNICIAN TO GO ONSITE. THE TECHNICIAN DID NOT CALL BEFORE GOING ONSITE, DID NOT CALL FROM ONSITE AND DID NOT SEND AN ESTIMATE TO ME OR BACK TO HIS OFFICE. I HAD TO CALL IN TWO MORE TIMES TO TRY TO GET THE ESTIMATE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE SENT VIA E-MAIL. NOTHING WAS SENT. I THEN CALLED AGAIN (THIS IS NOW ONE WEEK INTO THE PROCESS) AND WAS GIVEN THE RUN AROUND YET ONE MORE TIME. Chris M. was spot on with the repairs. Started out with a sink sprayer replacement but unfortunately the right compression fittings were not available. Chris tried several ways to make a tight connection but the fittings just would not seat appropriately. He made a few recommendations and we ended up replacing the faucet assembly which he did without a problem. He was very knowledgeable and courteous! Will definitely ask for his service again

At 11pm at night my husband hammered a nail into a water pipe. We called several places.The next morning we got a call asking if we still needed assistance. We were able to set up an appointment between 7a-10am.Mike called us when he was 10 min away.He was so friendly and and fixed the problem right away.It didnt even break the bank and he recommended someone to come out and fix the dry wall .My husband and I were so impressed.Thank u so much!! My compressor went bad on a 13 year old Trane unit. James explained my options and showed me the price I would be spending. Due to the age of my air handler (original unit when the house was built in 1984), the air handler and condenser both had to be replaced. I have two very young boys that would need AC in the middle of July, so I didn't have time to shop around. The price seemed high, but after the fact and asking around to people I know that have recently had their AC systems replaced, the price seemed to be expected. James made some calls, recommended a brand (Goodman), and said he could have it all installed by the end of the day......it was 110 degree heat index that day. James showed back up around 1:30pm with all the new equipment and materials and went right to work. He never stopped to take much of a break and was drenched in sweat from the heat. Another tech, Kevin, showed up a couple hours later to help, and he too was covered in sweat from the heat and was working just as hard. They had the whole new system installed and running with cold air, and all the mess cleaned up by 8pm. They busted their butts and we had nice cold air for the boys that night. Thanks to A-1 and James and Kevin for getting the job done!
The shut off breaker by the condenser went bad somehow while they were working on the system and they didn't have a replacement, so they just bypassed the breaker and pretty much just turned the box into a junction box, but I can fix that later when I have time. I can live with that.

Update: As I'm writing this, it's been almost a week since we've had the new system. My house is nice and cool, and the system is running smooth with no problems. It doesn't run nearly as much as my old system, so I'm looking forward to some small relief in my upcoming power bills. The heat index will climb close to 100 degrees this upcoming weekend and I am confident that we'll have a nice cool house. Thanks again!!

Absolutely ZERO stars for customer service. Had an emergency. Was promised twice that someone would return call...within 4 hours, then after calling back....immediately. Crickets. Finally someone who was clearly reading a scripted apology returned a call. She said someone would be able to call the following day and offered a 15% discount for the inconvenience. Well, considering you offer that coupon online to everyone....no thanks. Quite seriously some of the worst customer service ever experienced. And, if you want to leave a reviews on their page you must sign in with a password which I would explain all the 5 stars. Go to their Facebook page or check other online reviews before you call this company for anything.

I had used A-1 American a couple of times in the past and was pleased with their work. The most recent time I called them to help me out with a rush request to repair items on an inspection report, prior to the sale of my home. They came out quickly and the three separate guys they sent out for both HVAC and plumbing issues were all professional, friendly, courteous and they timely fixed all of my issues so that I could close on my house. I recommend this company to anybody in need of plumbing or HVAC work.

I had a pipe in my bathroom break on friday night at 10pm. I called A-1 American Sat. morning and they said they would have someone come fix it at 2pm. They had a cancellation and Jimmy was at my house at 12pm. Jimmy was very knowledgable about the situation and after going to get the parts needed had it fixed in 30-45 minutes. Problem was fixed and have had no issues in the week and a half since.

I came home from work today with no hot water. Contacted A1 American and they were able to send a technician out the same day. David did a great job fixing our hot water heater. He even vacuumed it out for me! I would highly recommend using A1 American! And I will be contacting them again when we need any plumbing services again!

Our AC unit started leaking and the water damaged caused a hole in our ceiling. We came home to the hole the day we were supposed to leave for vacation! We shut our system down and called A-1 American to schedule an assessment for when we returned. Julio came out to assess our unit and determined our condensate line was backed-up and blew it out with nitrogen. However, not a month later, our AC unit was leaking again and water was dripping from our newly patched ceiling! This time, the panels were removed and turns out our coils were filthy! Although I wish this full inspection was conducted the first time, Julio came out on his own time to make it right! So far, we're leak free and our AC is running great.

This company was great! Although I have a home warranty, they could not find a contractor who could work on an Apollo unit. I had to outsource and called A-1 American as I knew they could. They came out on Friday before the holiday and was back out on Tuesday for install. Kevin and James came out to find out what the issue was and checked everything. Marcus and James were back on Tuesday for install. They stayed until they knew it was working. It was 92 in the house and thanks to this company and the teams, we now have AC. I also have to give a shout out to Meg for her working with us to get the team out sooner rather than later. Thank you A-1 American!! You rock!!

My experience with A-1 American was not what I expected, yes I had a link in a pipe in the wall by or behind my heat water tank. Paid a lot money, And A-1 just cut a part of the fixing and when they left still had a link called them back. They made executes why the pipe was still linking but that wasn't the case. For the money I paid I thought that they was to fix the whole problem not what they thought was the problem. To much money paid out and still have a link. They said that I had a hole in the pipe but it wasn't linking from the the pipe it was ling from the stem, had to call someone else to fix the pipe, and there was NO hole in the pipe. There was holes in the values and the stem, not one hole but four holes had to be fix. the another plumber to fix the problem. He cut out the pipe that A-1 supposedly fix and fix more for least of the cost. Now no more linking. Thank you To the other plumber

I had A-1 come to my house last night to fix a bathtub. They worked around my hours and did great work fixing the bathtub. My two complaints, after seeing what was wrong and needed to be fixed I was quoted $375 for the repairs. This was far more than it should have been for the little amount of work that it took. Even though I wasn't thrilled about the price, I bit the bullet and decided to have them go ahead and do the work so I knew it would be done correctly. My biggest complaint: I told the plumber that I had a coupon from online that gave me 15% off all plumbing repairs. He looked at me and said, See, the thing is I already gave you a huge discount as he shrugged his shoulders. First, that is a lie!!!! It took 20-30 minutes and $10 dollars worth of materials to fix my bathtub. (The piece that was messed up was brand new as he pointed out to me when giving me the qoute.) Second, how can you not honor a coupon after a quote is given? If I said I had the coupon prior to receiving my quote, would my cost have been over $400???? Unfortunately for A-1, the fact that my shower is fixed does not out weight the fact their people lacked integrity during my interaction with them last night. I will not ever be doing business with them again. I will stick to small local private owned plumber businesses from now on.

Called to A-1 American to get my AC fixed, was not blowing cold. Was told there was a $78 fee for the technician to show up but that it would be rolled into the cost if they did the work. Long story short.... the problem was a capacitor, $20 electrical part. It took the technician about 30 minutes to fix, and he was on his cell phone for a good part of that time. Total cost $378....way overpriced. When I called back the next day to get my bill explained.... Penny was very rude and told me because I had already paid and signed my receipt I was out of luck. I would never use this business again. Check out the Better Business Bureau page on A-1 American... I don't even think they have received all those Pilot awards that are in all their advertisements. Very over priced, and rude on the phone when I tried to get my bill explained.

I am very satisfied with A-1American service. Our water heater broke and I called the company. John and Larry showed up to our house that same day, diagnostics were done and they are willing to fix or replace our water heater that same day. They were able to replace a new water heater within 3-4 hours. Timely service is very important for us due to work schedules and esp during winter season. They are very friendly and we felt no pressure regarding sales nor their service. They answered all our questions and explained everything to us in a way that is easy to understand. They gave us the facts and allowed us to take our time in making decisions.

I would definitely call this company for any other things that needs to be fixed in our house.

I called after trying to laundry and hearing the water coming up in the tub. I had the pipe cleared by another plumber and it plugged up again. John and Larry came to the call and right away got to work explaining what hey were going to do, than did the work professionally. They followed up with explanation on what they found ad we tested the plumbing to successful outcome.

My suggestion is to call the team when you need assistance with your services.

I called A-1 on Aug 25, 2014 to check my A/C unit because it wasn't cooling. The tech who called me asked me what the problem was. I informed him that I thought it might be leaking. When he arrived at my home, he checked the unit and said that it was low on coolant and needed to be filled. The cost was $630. He SUGGESTED AND ASKED if we wanted a leak check, which would be an additional $600 - $1000. We said no, so he filled the unit with coolant, and afterwards told me that the moisture I saw outside the unit was probably condensation. He wrote on the invoice that the A/C unit was fully operational. The A/C unit only cooled our house for THREE DAYS! I called A-1 back and told them the problem. The tech who came to my house and called me said the unit probably has a leak and it would cost $600 or more for him to find it, AND an ADDITIONAL $630 to refill the unit with coolant!!!! I am out $630 and have NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT!!! Today is Sept. 3, 2014, and I have been calling the manager daily to resolve this problem, and have not gotten a response! STAY FAR AWAY FROM A-1 AMERICAN!!!! I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN AND WILL LET EVERYONE I KNOW ABOUT THE POOR SERVICE!!!!

I called A-1 American because my office had a toilet that wouldn't stop running and was creating a huge water bill. The technician Larry was very polite! He fixed the issue in a timely manner and also brought to my attention something else that concerned him and I had that issue fixed as well. . I would recommend them to anyone. A1 American and John and his associate were amazing. I had a slow draining sink. I had used my home warranty service first which was a total bust because they said my service wasn't covered.
After I found THAT out, I called A1 at 1pm and they were at my house by 4:30pm same day! I had been told by the first plumber at my house that the only option was the roof and that he had to cut my garbage disposal off to get at the pipe. Then he bolted.
When I told that to John Mc. of A1 American, he said, let us see, we've been doing this a long time. And sure enough, just an HOUR later my sink was running fine. I'm so thankful for A1 American and for John Mc. I would absolutely recommend this company to anyone!

My friend today asked for estimate to find leak in freon line. Well guy came back said the whole unit needed to be replaced. Long story short. Said 11200 for new system. You can redo 3 houses for that. Next company came by all fixed works great for 189. So people watch this company. They are true rip offs. They want there 78 for estimate. Little do they not know is its all over Facebook Twitter on there attempt to rob an elderly man. His unit is only 5yrs old. It only had simple connection loose. Stay away. 2yrs ago I called about snaking my sewer line. Told me 360. I got it done for 189. Beware of these con artist

On 7/18/12, Darrell came to fix a leak in toilet cut-off valve. He inspected the leak, went back out to his truck and came back later with a work order to replace emergency cutoff sweat angle stop with limited access with a standard book rate of $732.10. He then proceeded to come up with various discounts that brought the price down to $409.39. (Still obscene!) We told him no thanks, and paid the $78.00 service charge.
We called another plumber who came the next day. He tightened the compression nut on the cutoff valve, and since it was such an easy job (about 10 minutes top) asked if there was anything else I might need done. Told him one toilet was not flushing well, he checked and chiseled out a lot of calcium build-up that had accumulated. Total charge $125.00! Needless to say, we would never recommend A-1!!!!

I called the office at 12:14pm because my air conditioner went out the night before. Joe was the technician that showed up to my home around 3:30pm the same day. Joe was not only very professional but knowledgeable about his job as well. Joe explained to me not only what the issue was but how to prevent it from happening in the future. Joe further explained the importance of using the proper filter and what will happen if the freon gets low. Joe was very positive and pleasant as he explained all of these things. Very few people understand the important of giving fantastic customer service not because their position requires it but it's a personal expectation. Joe clearly demonstrated that he strives for giving excellent professional and customer service. Not only will I use A-1 American Services for any future service issues I may have but I will recommend you to anyone needing pleasant and professional service. I had Jake Blackburn as my service technician for my HVAC repair. He was very nice and let me know what diagnostic he was going to do and pricing up front. He didn't mind me watching (not being creepy, I just like to know what is going on for future reference) and explained to me what all he was doing. He ended up replacing the motherboard which had some obviously bad components. Luckily he had a new one in his truck. He even secured the thermostat wires better so that they don't get damaged from me doing yard work.
I called A1 about the problem and was told that they would try to get someone out that day if not then the following day. An hour later Jake called me and said he was on his way and 30 minutes later he was at my house.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with his work today and will recommend him and A1.

I woke up on Saturday morning to find water flowing down my driveway. Not just a trickle but a river, flowing down my driveway. I called a few plumbing places only to be put on hold, told to call other leak detection companies that do not work on the weekends and a bunch of other excuses to spend more money than I thought was needed. But, not A-1 they sent out Tommy Spivey. He showed up and got straight to figuring out the best course of action. Talked to me about my options and we had a plan. Tommy, is the kind of person A-1 wants representing their company. He was a technical expert, professional, and friendly. He tirelessly troubleshoot and identified my problem and offered the most cost effective corrective action. This is the guy you want coming to your home to stop rivers from flowing down your driveway. A-1 and Tommy both have my highest recommendations to anyone with a plumbing emergency for courteous, extremely knowledge and professional service and for anyone not looking to have their bank accounts drained by unnecessarily inflated bills.

A-1 America Services was a life saver. I had a valve break and water pouring out all over the floor in my laundry room. I called to make an emergency appt. They said they were booked but would try their best to have someone come out asap. Within 3hrs Nicholas was knocking on my door. He was friendly,professional and efficient. My master bath tub was clogged. I called A1 American. Two technicians came out. Walked up and down my stairs approximately 4 or 5 times. Spent maybe and I mean maybe 5 minutes snaking the drain. Then charged me $325 (technician threw in a $50 coupon). Very very pricy. First and last time I will use this company. Callers beware!

If I could give them zero stars I would. Got at second opinion and saved 1,200 for the correct repair. Technician did not do his best, it was apparent he was out to get more than what was needed during the coldest week of winter. Charged double what was advertised just to come out and give an estimate.

Called plumber I have used for years and they couldn't come until next day for my clogged kitchen sink. I walked through my den and their commercial was on, so I waited for the number to pop up and called A-1. Curtis came out and unclogged the sink and found galvanized pipe all under the house that I thought had been removed 7 years ago when I had extensive work done to the house. It needed to be done right, so we told him to go ahead and replace it all with PVC, which he did. It's always a rude awakening when out of the blue things stop working properly, and he assured us that this work would solve our problems.

I called A-1 American Services because I needed my laundry tub clog issue taken care of. Keon came out & never tried to do anything. He told me that he would have to remove the trap & bring a machine in that would cost me $685. I could not believe him! He kept pressuring me to sign a blank contract in two places. I told him that I had already signed once for the service call. I told him that I would have to get advice from my son & he could come back another day. He told me that I would have to pay another service charge & it would cost me $385 an hour when they came back. I called my son & he told him they would honor it if they came back. He started filling out the contract while he talked to my son on the speaker phone. I called them back on Aug. 5 & spoke with Matt. I asked for the manager & he told me he wasn't sure if he was there. He got my name & address. He said he caught Ray (his supervisor/manager) as he was going out the door & that Ray would call me back. I then asked for the owner & he wouldn't give me a phone # to call - only that his name is Skip. I told Matt that I was going to report them to the BBB ( which I did). He said he would call Keon & call me back. It is now over 5 weeks & I still haven't received any calls from any of them. My son came over & disconnected the p trap, used needle nosed pliers to pull out a golf ball sized lint ball. He also ran a 15 foot sink snake & the line is perfectly clear. My son said the plumber should have easily fixed this! I didn't call him in the first place because he is very busy with his two businesses & I figured a plumber was needed. I shouldn't pay for him to drive over here to quote an insane price without attempting to fix or diagnose. I did not receive any service - he could have done what my son did & I would have gladly paid more even though the $78 service charge should have been sufficient! They are scammers & I just want to warn others.

I am posting this review on the fact that we were told 5:30pm that the technician would be out to repair our AC unit. We just received a call saying he will not be out til 10pm this evening. This is the time my toddlers are suppose to be sleeping. Adding that its 90 degrees our house. Showing up 5 hours past the original appointment time is not only horrible business advertising but a great way to receive bad word of mouth!!

I needed a valve replaced on the line from my water heater. I called A-1 as soon as they opened and they assured me they would schedule me that day. I received a call back within minutes and was given the time frame that they would be there. Due to circumstance beyond their control the tech informed me that he was going to be a little later than what I was told but promised he would be at my house that day. As it turned out he was Chaz set to work and completed the task in short time. This company exemplifies the true meaning of professionalism from the person answering the phone all the way up to the ownership. We experienced a little issue and the ownership and management resolved the issue to the satisfaction of all concerned. I would recommend this company to anyone any time. The real standouts in this operation were the techs (Jeremy and Chaz), management (Skip Savell) and the ownership. I am grateful for the attention the afforded me and I highly recommend this company for your plumbing needs. They are professional contractors that believe the customer comes first.

I required a total AC upgrade and duct work replacement this summer. It was estimated to be around $11k. I called around, and the prices were fair for the amount of work required. It was a lot of work...

The initial install from the time I arranged for everything to be done and it actually being done was not exactly speedy. My home was a pleasant 94 degrees inside for about 10 days. I purchased a portable AC unit so I wouldn't unexpectedly come home to baked felines. There was no offer for a service of renting a portable AC unit. Just know that going in when it feels like the crust of the sun has entered the atmosphere outside of your home...and inside for that matter. It was cheaper to buy the unit than find a hotel that accepts pets in the summer time around here.

The ductwork install I knew was going to be a hot mess. My attic entrance is probably in the most ridiculous location ever. The 1960's architects that designed this particular gem were obviously not paying attention to practicality. The removal of my old ducting went surprisingly quick, but it was surprisingly quick because they didn't clean up after themselves very well. There was fiberglass in my carpet outside of the attic entrance, all the way down the stairs, and they left trash bags full of old insulation in my driveway. Not a huge deal in the short term...but then things got interesting.

During the AC/Ductwork install fiasco, they knocked plaster away from my air inlet vent. Probably because they were trying to beat the air inlet cover into place. I'm not averse to people using hammers bend their frustrations on inanimate objects to do their bidding, but in this particular case that hammer was used in excess. I actually thought they were going to replace that particular part, but they did not. So when I complained that it looked like the entire cast of Ocean's 11 came by with a crow bar and pulled the corner of my vent duct inlet out thinking I had a stash of casino winnings in there, the ductwork guy said he couldn't do anything about it because that's how it was. 3 months later, and several patient but also snarky phone calls later, I may finally have a plaster guy coming out to the house. Maybe it's been 4 months. I don't remember, it's been a hot minute. The contractor also cut an old filter in half (that had been chillin' in my attic for more than 10 years) and laid them side by side in my air inlet, because the one he installed apparently wasn't correct. He cut the air inlet cover to fit in the opening and beat it into place with the aforementioned hammer, so it still looks like I didn't pay $11k for his services. I can't use the original opening levers for it, because he cut them off and screwed the cover into my wall. Convenient.

When the electrician arrived during the AC install, he performed some sort of space magic on my gas heater thermostat and it disappeared, never to be seen again by all of mankind. Why he removed it, I will never know as it is a separate system altogether. A month after my AC was installed, they finally replaced my missing thermostat.

A week after my AC install, my living room starting snowing fiberglass insulation like a Chicago blizzard. A few days later, some guys came over and rechecked all of my ductwork connections, cleaned out the exhaust vents in my ceiling, and swept behind my couch.

All in all, kind of a horror story. There's a bonus star for friendly (albeit not adequate) customer service, the fact that the AC unit actually works, and a good warranty program. Minus stars are for poor quality assurance, and not prioritizing the completion of work after the unit is checked off as installed and is paid for. And by not prioritizing I actually mean it's going to be a few months before they care enough to come over and fix what they broke. Their follow up with install issues is actually trash garbage and should be evaluated within the company to fix it...fair price or not, waiting months for resolution because they hired poor contractors is unacceptable.

BUYER BEWARE! This place is a RIPOFF. I don't know how much clearer I can be, CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED! If I could give them ZERO stars I would.

Outrageously overpriced and they seem completely okay with taking advantage of the elderly. Pretty disgusting in my book. They took a part off the furnace (of an elderly family member) that was still under warrranty and said it needed to be replaced, without ever mentioning the fact that they would be getting the replacement part for FREE. The quote for 30 minutes work and a free part was nearly $1,000. However, they did give a senior discount of $150 to make it mid $800's. Serisouly? DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE.

called A1 when my ac broke the came out and tried to sell me a new unit for $5000-$5500 and when I said I was getting a 2nd opinion he refused to finish estimate and charged me $87 for trouble shooting second company came a few hrs later and said I needed a new capacitor and that A1 tech knew it, it was swollen and obviously bad. while A1 was looking at the condenser he loosened my Freon line causing a leak, A1 had sabotaged my unit. it needed 1 lb of Freon by the time this 2nd company came. He fixed the valve and charged my unit to full (1lb lost) and changed the capacitor for only $250 and within hrs my house was cool again. so glad I sent A1 away :)

Few months ago my kithen sinks drain busted resulted a serious leaks. I immediately called

I am so very satisfied with A-1American and more specifically, their technician Jake! He is super friendly, stayed in contact with me, answered ALL of my questions without hesitation and with honesty. Quoted me the price and that is what I paid! Jake and his assistant arrived on time, worked through horrendous heat in my attic, and got my new ac installed like clockwork! My home is cooling down as we speak and we are loving it! Jake explained how to register for the warranty for the products I as well, and that process was easy too! As much as I've seen the A-1 American commercials, I can say they are truly a company of their WORD and I will DEFINITELY use them for future home improvements or repairs!!! We purchased a new AC unit from A-1 American and their service has been excellent. We would like to specifically recognize Mike for going above and beyond to get out to us even over a holiday weekend. He came out to make sure our AC was working (which it was) but the issue was on technical set up of our Nest as we couldn’t adjust the schedule. We tried to work out the set up on our own but when we asked him to come out again just to help us with the set up, he was very accommodating. We thought we needed a new Nest unit but did not once he was able to help (although he was going to replace if we did). He is very accessible via text and worked around of schedule, which is greatly appreciated. We would highly recommend A-1 American!

Friday the 20th of May I called for service on my heat pump and even though I wasn't able to get an approximate time, that they would be back in touch with me. I waited the rest of that day and until about noon on Saturday before calling again and was answered by someone who could answer no questions. I waited all day Sunday, still no call. on Monday I tried to call and the phones were out of service.
I gave up and tried another HVAC contractor that was at my house in 2h hours and the job was completed in less than 30 minutes.
I will never use A-1 American again.

I called A-1 Amercian about a water leak from my water heater. Within an hour they sent David to access the situation. Turned out that I needed a new one. On this past Wednesday after giving my son a bath I remembered I was slow cooking my food in the oven. I quickly ran downstairs to check and my feet got wet passing through the living room to the kitchen.🤦 I saw that it was coming from the bathroom and when I opened the door.............💦water was everywhere and still coming up through the toilet downstairs!!! I got it all cleaned up and turned the water off behind the toilet and called my Super Realtor from ReMax Central😉. She got a guy to come the next day and after he discovered how serious the issue was of the main line being clogged an amazing expert from A1 had to be called to come in and get the job done. JEREMY came on a late night emergency call and did just that!!!!! He got the job done and had the water flowing and he even put the toilet back that was removed by the prior guy. I wish I could give them a negative 5 stars. So my rental home A/C stopped working. All that was needed was a float switch and I asked for a new thermostat to be placed in the home. I was quoted $610. Not having time to do reseach due to me taking care of my home in florida fro hurricane irma I told them to do the work. My mistake.... My tenet sent me a picture of the thermostat that he installed and it was basic and cost no more than 20 bucks. I had to call them and fight to get a receipt but the are still refusing to give me and itemized recipe. Better Business Bureau is my next stop they are a complete rip off.....

Called A-1 American to fix leaky valves in shower, replace knobs, and replace the shower head. Larry came out and repaired the valves and replaced knobs and shower head. A-1 American really went above and beyond to ensure that the work needed in my home was done efficiently and at the highest of quality. The installers explained everything to me and when there was an additional problem with my water heater, went above and beyond by calling the manufacturer to utilize the warranty, retrieving the appropriate part, and returning to complete the job. They finished my leaky faucet before I could even check to see how it was going! I will definitely be a repeat customer!

I had an water pipe leak into my kitchen this past saturday night. I called A-1 American and Spoke with Fernando. Fernando was friendly and very helpful over the phone walking me through eveything. He assured me everything would be ok and he told me he would be over in 30minutes. Fernando arrived on time and was super friendly. My wife and I had friends over from out of town and he was very professional and friendly with all of them. He was quick and diagnosed the problem immediately. He did not have all of the parts to fix the problem but assured my wife and I that he would be over first thing in the morning to fix the leak.He arrived the next morning first thing and fixed the problem immediately and got our water turned back on. Fernando was a breathe of fresh air for my wife and I. He was friendly, professional and is a great asset to A-1 American. I highly recommend them if you ever have a plumbing issue.

I called somewhere else first and they said next available appt was in 6 days. I had a clogged toilet and couldn’t wait 6 days. So I called A-1 American the lady on the other end was so nice!! They had someone at my house within 2 1/2 hours! The serviceman, David, Was OUTSTANDING! He was very kind and courteous and took care of the problem quickly and efficiently. Then he went back in after he was done and cleaned up after himself! I will most DEFINITELY use A-1 America again for any needs that they provide. 5 stars in my book!!

Mr. John McClain from A-1 Plumbing is the best plumber I’ve worked with in all my years of home ownership. He repeatedly provided 5-star service and repair to multiple plumbing issues (hot water heater, toilet, bath tub). From the first repair call to the third, was incredibly responsive, knowledgeable, and courteous, making it an easy decision to contact him again when other plumbing issued popped up. I called A-1 American Thursday night at around 11:30 p.m. for a clogged and leaking sink in my kitchen. I wasn't asking for someone to come out at that late hour, but was hoping for an early or mid-morning service call. Friday was the biggest cooking session of the year for me so I was stressed! John & Larry came out around 10 a.m. They were polite, knowledgeable, clean and FAST!
This is the first time we've had to call a plumber for a kitchen emergency in the home we've owned for 19 years. I would recommend John & Larry & A-1 American Services to anyone in a heartbeat!

I don't remember the Technician's name but he was courteous and very professional. I had a problem with downstairs toilet filling up properly. The technician diagnosed the problem quickly. He went to the trunk and got the replacement part. He told me that the fill valve was defective. He replaced the part quickly without issue. The toilet issue was resolved in about fifteen minutes. I appreciated his expertise. He also educated me about Tank-less water heaters. This something I might consider in the future. Thank you A-1 American Services.

Hate to rate even 1 star myself. My husband called on Friday to schedule someone to come out to snake our tub drain. Earliest appointment we could get was Monday and they could not give us even a large window of when they could be there. After confirming the appointment Monday morning (still with no service window), our son waited around all day until he had to go to work at 3:30. Still no call. Husband called and was told that the tech tried to call but that the number he called wasn't receiving calls. (He obviously called a wrong number and didn't try again.) Was then told that we would be the first appt on Tuesday. It's after 12:30 and still haven't heard from them. Husband is cancelling the appt (ha ha) and we will go with someone else who cares about customer service. Very disappointed.

This was the second time that Jeremy was involved in the replacement of a gas control valve on my water heater. He and Chaz were very forthright in their troubleshooting of the problem and once diagnosed, a plan was laid out for repair. Not on A-1 American at all, I did have to wait for the manufacturer of the water heater (Rheem) to overnight deliver the required part. Within hours of the part being delivered to my home, Jeremy and Chaz were there and beginning the replacement of the part. The treatment I received as a customer was excellent and I remember when this same bad part (Rheem) was replaced 13 months ago, it was Jeremy who had asked a coworker, Kevin, take care of the replacement when Jeremy was not available. Jeremy, Chaz, Kevin, and A-1 American have made it a point to put the customers' needs high on their lists of priorities. While no one wants to have a service call, I would not hesitate to recommend A-1 American should the need ever arise.

This company has the worst customer service. They fixed a leak in a water line in our yard a couple years ago. We noticed water on the sidewalk and low and behold we have a leak in the same spot. It is supposed to be a 24 hour service but never got a call back over the weekend after several messages. I called this morning and one of them called and said they would be here in an hour. He showed up two and a half hours later. Was here briefly left to go to Home Depot came back was here a while and left agai. For a little bit. When I got home at 4:45 he was wrapping it up for the day and said he would be back in the morning. Was told when he got here he would finish the job today. Assures me we should have no problem using the water in the house which was not the case. Water did not work in the house. Look outside and it is flowing everywhere. I call the company then had to call back an hour and a half later before the plumber finally calls me back just to tell me he can co e out and turn the water off at the main so it is no longer flowing and he would come back in the morning. I call the company back again and leave a message to have a manager call me and they have the same plumber call me. If this is the way the managers and owners want to run a company I would not recommend them. We now have no water in our house and a flood
in our yard out into the street and they just leave it that way.

UPDATE:

After speaking with the owner of the company the same evening of this review. They sent a couple different plumbers out the very next morning. They made sure we were taken care of and did an amazing job through the whole process. Thank you again for a job well done.

If you need a plumber in a pinch, go elsewhere. Although the technicians were great and showed up promptly for an after hours emergency, the exhorbitant prices were sickening. They charged me 800 to snake a single drain, which was on the roof and it was after hours but this is absolutely a complete rip off. I had used A1 as they were recommended to me by a friend but I will never use them again. So incredibly disappointing and lesson learned.

I just wanted to leave a quick note and say how awesome Ray was. I needed some maintenance done on a natural gas hot water boiler and to my surprise Ray showed up within two hours of me making the phone call. He quickly diagnose the issue, ran to get the part, and had it installed perfectly and under two hours. I certainly was not expecting that level of service and I will definitely use A-1 as my go forward. Everyone was incredibly easy to work with. Fernando removed our jetted tub from the master bathroom. This was a major renovation/repair project that required the disconnection of the water drain & all plumbing. After the repairs were made to the tub, Fernando returned a few days later and reinstalled the tub, including pouring mortar. We were pleased with Fernando's work, especially his knowledge and attention to detail. Fernando provided his cell phone number & promptly responded to text messages during our exchange with the tub repair contractor.

Amazing this tech did all this in 10 minutes.So I still have the leak and I doubt that the HVAC was properly serviced. 189.00 for 10 minutes work wow that’s more than my doctor charges for 10 minutes. A technician came to our home for 3 hours Thursday night & did not fix the problem. He said someone would be back first thing Friday morning... Friday around 1, not first thing, he came & was unprepared & did not fix the problem. He said he had to get a part & would be back between 5-6 that night. At 4:50pm, we were informed he was not coming back & we were without heat again in record breaking cold weather. On Saturday, he came & replaced the part within 45 minutes, still unprepared so we had to borrow a ladder again from the neighbors. He said he was not going to fight traffic to Newport News to get the part the previous day. William refused to answer any of my questions or tell me his name because I was the tenant. He was rude, unprofessional, late, unprepared, and apathetic. I recommended to the owner to NEVER use this company again.

HORRIBLE!! They wanted to charge me $910 to punch holes in my wall, fix them, and put caulk around the faucet. Misdiagnosed where the leak was, then charged me $250 and left.....nothing got fixed, holes in my wall, AND they didn't even take the $75 off for the coupon I had for Repeat Customer. THEN.... I spent the whole next day trying to talk to a manager and he NEVER CALLED ME BACK!!!!!
THEY HAVE LOST MORE THAN ONE CUSTOMER, because I will be telling everyone I know about this experience and will make sure that no one uses these rip-off artists!!!

A-1 AMERICAN IS A SCAM!
My AC was having problems and my regular company couldn't make it for 5 days so I had A-1 come. The serviceman can in a white truck, unmarked, no ID, nothing indicating where he was from. Then after a couple minutes he told me I had a low voltage failure and it would cost $575.00 I was shocked and sick to my stomach. I had to borrow money to pay this. Only to have it fail 2 days later. He came back a second time, and FLIPPED the breaker. He took off the cover to the high voltage breaker and left it off after he left. The next day the thing failed again. I called Michael & Sons who originally installed it came and evaluated it, only to find that my filter was really dirty.

$575 for 10 mins of work that didn't even fix anything. I know I was ripped off, taken advantage of and I will NEVER ever use them again and do everything I can to share this horrible scam.

Called A-1 American because we had no ac on our upstairs unit. This was our first experience with A-1. The air was blowing, but not cold air. Technician came out and seemed to be very knowledgeable. He recommended that he do a electronic leak check on the outside unit. I was thinking the original diagnostic fee of $78 would cover it. The starting price for the leak check was $525.00! But, he did give me a couple discounts and knocked it down to $249.00. I was thinking $249.00 was kind of high. This leak check took all but 5 minutes and he determined that I was completely out of R-22. With that being said, the whole unit has to be replaced! So now the price is $4449.00 (but they will waive the $249). I told him that I would have to think about. Needless to say I called and got a second opinion from a different company. This technician did a leak check but there was no charge. He found that an o-ring was missing on the outside unit and replaced it. He also determined that my R-22 was about half full and not completely out. He charged it up and after a month I still have cold ac blowing. I was charged a total $129 for the added R-22 and the diagnosis. I was curious and asked if I could get a quote if I had to replace the unit and I was quoted $3,500 for a top of the line brand.

I want to say thank you to Aaron Savell for helping my 90 year old grandmother with her hot water heater Saturday. It suddenly went out and he came over immediately and saw it needed to be replaced. He got an estimate hours later and then came BACK the same day to install! This is the true meaning of customer service. Words cannot describe how extremely grateful I am to know there are companies out there that TRULY care about helping others. I am an A1 American customer for life. No need to look anywhere else. A1 American. More like F1 American. Their Service is horrible. They were supposed to come out to check my AC unit twice and never showed up or called to say the wouldn't be able to make it. On 7/13 I called and they stated someone would be out the same day. Well that day came and gone and no one called or showed up. Then 7/14 I called that morning to find out what happened and they stayed that the technician would be out first thing in the morning. (Didn't happen). The technician calls me around 12:00pm stating he will be at my house that afternoon and will call when he is 30 minutes away. Well guess what? NO CALL, NO SHOW. Or no apologizes. I will never use there service again!!!!

This company over charged me outrageously. Before the holidays they came over to fix my heat. The technician said it would require two parts and 8 - 12 hours of labor. They were supposed to be here at 9:00am, around 12:30 in the afternoon I had to call and ask where they were. 15 minutes later they arrived, it took all of 3 hours to install the parts and clean up the project. When they explained the price, I was lead to believe it was based on the number of hours it took to complete the job. I was charged $2495.00 for two parts which I could have purchased myself for $370 by local supply house. After numerous attempts to contact the company's heating manager, John, he finally called me back nine days later after speaking to another manager named Ray. John was very abrupt and rude from the moment he answered the phone. He showed no compassion towards the enormous cost of the job. John had already made of his mind prior to listening to my concerns. Obviously this company writes you off once payment is received.

If you have already paid thousands of dollars and have a contract, they will not want to talk to you after business hours. You will be hung up on. Now it's the hottest summer, and our air is not working. Who knows how long until the tech can come out. And our family is having a hard enough time right now, as my father was just put in hospice, and my mom and I are already having a difficult time. We really don't need rude customer service. You could at least be courteous, even when you can't help right away. I was hung up on just trying to find the regular business hours. Very disappointing. On the other hand, we have had no issue with the tech Bruce however, he is very professional and thorough, which is the saving grace of this.

This was the 3rd time I have used A-1 American for plumbing needs. So far, they have replaced a bad faucet, replaced a leaky hot water tank,cleared a clogged drain, and installed a new insinkerator. All service was fast and expertly done at a reasonable cost (work is done by the job and not at a hourly rate). I will most definitely call on A-1 American for any future plumbing or heating needs. Thank You A-1.

I had a big surge in my water bill and decided to call a company I had used before. Instead I called A-1 American and was glad I did.
I had an appointment the same day I called . The lady was very polite.
Larry and John came on time and explained to me that there is a leak and the flush valve needs replacement. I was hearing a loud noise prior to this when I tried to open the shut off valve.
They replaced the part in a very reasonable time and it is fine now.
I would use them in the future too.

The guy came out to look at me hvac unit in the backyard because it wasn't blowing out heat. He said I needed a new unit for $7,200. I agreed and signed a contract saying yes they could install one. He went to go pick it up. While he was gone I called my friend and told them what the guy said & they told me no call the guy back and tell him you don't want it you changed your mind because that's to much especially since you only had that unit two years. I called him back and told him I didn't want it anymore but he told me it was to late because I already signed a contract so I owe 10% of that because I had already signed a contract. Nowhere on that contract does it say if you don't want the product anymore they're going to charge you 10 percent. The company took advantage of . They aren't an honest company and they price gained during a pandemic. I don't even think they deserve 1 star but I'm being gracious. They take advantage of people but evetually karma will get them.

Larry and John were friendly, professional and gave me a quick analysis of the water leak problem i had at the water meter. They notified me of where the break was and what the solution would cost. Although I believe the repair cost was a little high for the amount of work completed, it was done expeditiously and so far satisfactorily.

I would consider A-1 American for any future plumbing needs I have.

My experience with A-1 American was an A+ one. This was not my first life experience with a stopped drain. I plunged, snaked, disassembled the pipes and snaked again, then went and bought a longer snake with no luck. Then I remembered the old proverb “The first thing you should do if you find yourself in a hole, is Stop Digging! So I surrendered and called A-1.

When I called it was early Friday evening, to my surprise the call was taken directly by the plumber on the service truck who clearly explained the business rules. I found out later, they were just finishing up one job and were in a location to make mine the next stop before their next. I appreciated their flexibility to make service call decisions in the field. When they arrived John and Larry introduced themselves, we agreed on the task order and they went right to work. There is nothing like having the right tools and operators in place.

My previous efforts, and continued efforts would have been no match and my Friday-Saturday- would have been shot. It took a little over an hour to complete the work and the time from the first call to completion was about two hours. John and Larry also provided a personable touch and discussed preventive measures to the task at hand as well as recommendations on another project I had on the radar. Even my Yellow Lab bonded with John and Larry on the visit. Upon completion the guys cleaned up the area and all was good. I actually had a weekend to enjoy!

I called A1-American because the water would not drain out of my kitchen sink. Mike came out on time to my house. He asked what was going on and what i had tried. He then explained to me the problem and how he would fix it. As he was snaking out my kitchen drain pipe he explained how over the years grease collected inside the pipe. He snaked it out until we both heard the clog break apart. He then cleaned up and gave me some helpful information. He was very professional and friendly. I would want him to return again if i have any other problems.

A-1 American is first - class! The technician, Steve Ruger called before he came, gave m an estimated time of arrival, and showed up as promised. He analyzed the problem, quickly made the plumbing repairs and tested the system before he left our house. Obviously A-1 American technicians are all top notch, or A-1 American wouldn't receive the accolades they richly deserve.

A technician came and inspected my gas furnace and said it needed to be replaced due to its age and condition. He also said the blower was not working and the main limit had been bypassed. My unit is only 7 years old and was last serviced by A-1 American a few years ago. After paying the $78 service fee and receiving a quote for a new unit we declined the service and called Michaels and Son. They replaced the blower and main limit switch. I feel as if I was being swindled by the tech and believe he was more concerned with selling me a new unit rather than repairing the one I had. I'm very disappointed at the treatment by A-1 American and won't recommend their services to anyone.

If I could gave them a 0 Star, I would have. I called friday afternoon to have a plumbing job done at my house. I did not received a phone call from the technician the same day even though the receptionist told me that I was going to receive a call. The next day at 8 am, Saturday, I have to call again to see what was going on. A1 contacted the technician and finally I got my phone call around 10 am. The technician told me that he was going to be at my house around 12 pm. He arrived at 3:00 pm. The job that I was required was to replace the freeze proof silcock outside my house. I had already removed the previous freeze proof silcock. So the job was half way done. The technician wanted to charged me $785 dollars for the job. That was completely unacceptable. After a talk, he decided to do the job for $400 because he was going to take over 3 hours to do the job. He started to do the job and after 30 minutes, he left my house to pick up some materials. He was gone for 2 hours and I had to call the main office to see where he was. After 3 hours, he came back to my house and finished the job in around 45 minutes. I paid $400 dollars to replace a freeze proof silcock and only took him 1 hour and 15 minutes to do. That is completely unacceptable. Monday afternoon, I called the main office to talk to a manager. Today is wednesday and I have not received a call yet. I call again and the receptionist told me that the only thing she can do is leave a message. I hope she does because all I have received from them is bad services and they ripped me off with the bill. I cannot believe I paid $400 for a 1 hour and 15 minutes job and to makes matter worse, I supplied and paid for the new freeze proof silcock. I also wanted to add that the technician lied in the paperwork telling his supervisor that he removed the original freeze proof silcock.

Called and made an appointment to have them come out and look under the house for some leaks our home inspector reported. They said it would be $78.00 for them to come diagnose the problem and that charge would be credited if we proceeded to use them to have it fixed. They came out and when I told the guy the leaks were under the house he sent his partner to check the water meter and spent 10 minutes going through a book trying to find a price ... I told him I was quoted $78 to diagnose the problem. I called A1 and they asked to speak with him. He got off the phone with her and said it would be $350.00 per hour for them to go under the house to see what was going on. I gave him $78 and said no thanks. Will not use A1 again.

Larry and John were great, however............garbage disposal jam took about 60 seconds to fix......soap dispenser tightened and filled........charged me $226.00. When I made the appointment I was told the $78 diagnostic fee would be waived if I used their services......it wasn't. If I had known the cost would have been more than having a brand new garbage disposal installed from home depot, I would not have had the work done. Beware......................

On Saturday June 28 2014 I called A-1 American, I see the commercials on Channel 10 each morning 5-10 times before going to work. I called and talked with a young lady and explained my problem, I did tell her I wanted to check around with other companies, but called her back within 5 minutes. I provided all my information and scheduled service with the company this was about 8:30am. 1:00pm came there was NO call or no one showed up.

I called on Wednesday to set up an appointment for some plumbing repairs no-emergency for Friday of that week. I was told someone would be calling me to tell me what time that Friday they would come. Never received a call. Called on the day of scheduled service, and was told yes they had me, and to expect a phone call and I never did receive one. Had to select a star so this would post. I had a busted pipe in the wall in a rental property I own. I was desperate for anyone to come by and fix it because this was a new tenant. I called a couple places and so did my wife. A1 American answered the phone pleasantly and told me that they were totally booked up but they would try to take care of me. I think we called like 5 places and all of them were booked up. Everyone was charging a premium this night because of all the calls they were getting and they were still telling me like 72 hrs. The premium was avg $200 JUST TO LOOK, but A1 was $150.
John McClain was the Plumber who called and came by on short notice. He called me after I reached out and set up the appointment on time. You know I watch these commercials every morning and thats why their name stuck in my head. those commercials worked and so do they. Anyway he came out and dug in the cold snowy mud to get the water valve turned off. He wasted NO time. He was in, cut a hole in the wall, gave me an estimate, located the leak and had it fixed. He actually got mad at himself because it took him longer than he expected. I was expecting him to take my money and tell me he'd have to come back tomorrow. Thats usually what happens. I'm not a novice to working with contractors on rental properties. Plus I was also expecting some outrageous fee. They were even lower than I expected. Most importantly, he cleaned up after he was done. Overall I am COMPLETELY SATISFIED

Jack Blackburn is the most knowledgeable and professional serviceman I’ve seem in over 20 yrs. He did a super repair on my old compressor - troubleshooting and replacing several fused wires. But my 15 year old system was on life support. After getting bids on replacement units from two others, even thought A-1 wasn’t the cheapest - I had the most confidence in Jake to do it right the first time. He was 10 mins early of his stated arrival time and completed the replacement of the compressor and coil professionally with everything cleaned up prior to his departure.

This was a difficult plumbing situation in an older home with my elderly mom. From the first phone call your company lived up to the name A-1 American. Everyone we spoke to on the phone was polite and honest and what was promised was delivered. Shaun, the plumber, was fantastic. Because of the age and condition of the plumbing this could have been very expensive for us but Shaun saved us money and corrected the problem at a reasonable cost. On October 5, 2014 at about 11:00 PM, we discovered that a couple of toilets in our chapel were backing up. It's very late in the day and we have a big activity the following day and I had no choice but to call for an emergency plumbing service. The first company that came to my mind is A-1 American because I see it a lot on TV.
I was not disappointed, the technicians arrived at the time frame that they told me they will arrive. They took the time to explain what they're going to do and after they solved the problem they gave us some tips on how to avoid experiencing the same problem that we had.

The installers did a great job adding the extras that my old house needed and gave me advice how to deal with other aspects of the mess from the rupture. Honestly I felt like they scammed my poor mother. First off we made an appointment for Friday and coincidentally they couldn’t make it until the weekend. Then when they came here I was in my bedroom and the gentleman that was dealing with my mother talked to her in an unprofessional manner. When my brother and I came out to talk about what was going to be the repair. They stated after the diagnosis that the bathtub was clogged up and we need to snake the bathtub. I asked him how much for the repair, he stated 495. Reluctantly i said ok and they proceeded... after maybe 45 mins of them attempting to do so they then stated that I need to have the whole bathroom remodeled for 5 thousand dollars.. I should have seeked elsewhere for professional diagnosis I honestly felt like they did nothing and I was charged 500 for some b/s.

We recently suffered water damage to our home and were in the market to replace our water heater. I set up appointments with multiple companies to get estimates, and each sent a tech out to survey the issue and gather the information for that estimate. The representative from A-1 American is the only one that ignored my questions and comments on what I was looking for and proceeded to give me only an estimate for a tank system. Not only that, he continued to push for rerunning gas and water lines to completely relocate the system, which would cause the price to skyrocket. In the end, he gave me a quote that was 3-4 times what any of the other 3 major companies gave AND charged me a service fee for the consultation that I wasn't made aware of when I made the appointment. I have no problem paying a consultation fee, these teams are very busy and their time is valuable, but I effectively paid for them to waste my time. If they didn't want to take on the job, they should have at least said as much rather than making up a ridiculous estimate while keeping my money.
Update: Meg from A-1 reached out to me to address my concerns. She was incredibly professional, patient, caring, and engaging. At no time did I feel that she was simply responding to a complaint. I truly felt she cared about my experience with the company and worked with me to come up with a resolution that worked for both parties. If my rating was based on my experience with her, it most definitely would have been 5 stars.

Friends I just want to put this out there for anyone that may need a plumber... I needed some work done and called A1 American. They quoted me $836.00 and at least two hours to get water flowing again to my house. I called A1 Plumbers - not to be confused with A-1 American - Once the plumber arrived he had the repair completed and water restored in about 15 minutes for $199.00. If you need plumbing make sure you call the right A-1! Just sayin...

We asked a1 American to come out and evaluate our HVAC system.which was blowing warm air.they offered to install a brand new unit at a flat rate of $6,000 with no explanation of the details .upon a second opinion, come to find out the system worked fine except that it was a little low on the refrigerant which got replaced plus some stop leak it's been over a month and the system is working terrifically. We have just now received a belligerent phone call, from the workmen who came out to diagnose our system, whom we thought was a technician, and we are now being threatened to giving us a bad hit on our credit report. We are trying to figure out if a professional company, is trying to make us pay for a bogus diagnostic just to try to sell a brand new $6,000 unit, if that is legal? I don't even know where to start. We called this place because our A/C wasn't working. This man, came in super late several days after when he was supposed to come in for a check up. Claims that the compressor needs to be replaced and it would cost over 3k. Luckily, we found out that there is nothing wrong with our A/C but some of the lines were mixed up causing malfunction. Which I assume it was a doing of technician so he can charge us more money. It wasn't like that before this man came in for check up. This place is a scam, and needs to be shut down immediately. Literally call anywhere else besides here.

I have never experienced anything as bad as I have in hiring A-1 sewer and drain. I called at 9am and was told that they would schedule the repair and get back to me. I got a return call after wasting a day at 4pm stating that their tech was running behind and that it would take place in approximately 2 hours. No call until 9:45 pm stating that they would schedule me 1st in the mourning. I got the call at 8:30am and the tech moved on to other jobs as I took a shower and was not available for the 4 second phone call. I called the office where the receptionist informs me that she must call the supervisor Ray to schedule me again with a different tech. The tech arrives at 11:30am and immediately refers to a price booklet which states for A-1 plumbing that unclogging a garbage disposal will cost $566.00. I was shocked! Then the tech tried to inform me that no one guarantees their work and provides the quality of A-1 sewer and drain. The tech then asks for my credit card and begins to ring me up for a job quoted on google that should cos: (Clog: $150 to $200. You may need to clear the pipes or plumbing further down than the sink or shower drain. Jam: $0 to $100. Try to clear it yourself by cleaning the garbage disposal.) Wow, the tech disassembled the disposal found that it was'nt clogged and then after an hour of banter tried to upsell me to replacing the disposal for over $1100.00. Again, I was SHOCKED! I called a competitive certified plumber who informed me that the job would cost $375,99. I will also tell you that in my dissatisfaction of wasting 2 days while attempting to be rung up for huge bills, that the supervisor would not speak with me. I have called my credit card company in fear that I will be charged for an over estimated repair that never took place. The tech was not even able to reassemble the disposal he took apart! I have a pan under my sink until a real plumber can fix it for a reasonable price! If I could rate A-1 in negative stars what do you think I would do?

I would have appreciated an explanation of how the rate for the job was determined because it seemed a little high for a simple fix (they installed a new fill valve, supply line, and flapper seal with chain for $302.00), but the job was done well and in a short amount of time.

Days before Christmas there was a smell that came through our heater, we called A-1 American and TC came out to take a look. Unfortunately at that point he wasn't able to find anything wrong. Christmas night our heater stopped working. We called A-1 American back and they sent TC back out to us on the 26th. He diagnosed the problem and we asked if it was possible to repair rather than replace, he said he would do what he could. Come to find out the unit we had was from a company that went out of business 7 years ago, he remained determined to do as we asked and he searched for all the parts. He was able to locate all the parts but the price ended up being just a couple hundred less than the price of a new unit. We decided to get a new unit instead. TC was very straight forward about everything with us, and we appreciate that very much.

Marcus came with the install crew. There were several people in and out all day taking out our old furnace and installing our new one. At around 6 pm he was the last member of the crew still here and he was bound and determined to have heat for us that night. He was working on it until around 8 pm, but before he left he made sure the heat was working. Unfortunately something happened and it stopped working in the middle of the night. He had been honest with me about certain parts of the installation that hadn't gone quite the way they should have and he assured me that even though the install wasn't done, he would be back out to finish it the next day. He was here first thing the next morning and got everything working just the way it should. He had also explained to me that in the installation process a piece of our ceiling was broke and that they would send someone out to fix it for us.

Aaron came out to fix the broken drywall in our ceiling and he did more than I was expecting. He did a fantastic job, and he even took a look at our outdoor unit that had started making noise a few days before. He was able to fix the noise problem, and highly recommended that we get our unit serviced in the spring to keep it in good working order. Which we plan on doing.

We are very pleased with the honesty, pride, determination, and work ethic all three men showed us. Not only does it reflect highly on A-1 American for having such outstanding individuals on their team, it reflects highly on them as individuals, and I would highly recommend TC, Marcus, Aaron, and A-1 American to anyone in need of heating help.

Larry and John did a very professional job in replacing my hot water heater. They quickly assessed what the problem was, they were accurate in what work needed to be completed, and they completed at the time and in the amount of time they predicted. A-1 is a very reliable solution if you have a Hot Water Heater emergency.

I hate that I have to even give them one star. 5 days ago we had two technicians come out and look at our clogged drain from the house to the street. They charged us $385 to snake the pipe. Upon finding nothing they said they wanted to video the pipe but that it would cost $300 per hour and take two to three hours to do. Mind you it's less than 40 feet of pipe. I told them that I didn't want them to go any further because that was crazy amount for not that much work. They quoted me $7300 to replace the whole pipe. They were here for almost 4 hours! When they left we were in the same condition we were before they came out. I called another plumber and they came out on a Saturday and gave me a quote to snake and video the drain...$350. That's it. One technician came out two days later and unclogged the drain and ran the camera through it and was only here for 2 hours and everything is perfect. So I paid A-1 American $385 to do absolutely nothing! Sorry for the long write up but I had to explain everything.

Toilet was backed up with no relief in sight. called A-1 who promptly informed me I was number two on the list for that day. The tech called within twenty or thirty minutes and informed me they were finishing at another location and and would be at my home within the hour. Once Larry and John arrived the problem was quickly solved and with a smile, a hardy handshake and thank you those two professionals were on their way. I like that quick response, correct problem solving and customer satisfaction all completed with a smile and a professional attitude.

Unfortunately, I wish there were a way to retract a glowing review I gave last year after A-1 sold and installed a new heat pump for me. The first service call, when the A/C stopped working the first time, the technician found a place on the indoor part of the unit where he said a soldered joint needed to be corrected. (He was the tech who installed it and took full responsibility.) I was pleased with the service and the result.

On the next service call, same tech, this time because it was taking hours to cool a small loft-style condominium and it never had before, he was perplexed, but made a few adjustments on the outdoor part of the unit, and it seemed to straighten out the problem.

Until it happened again. And then again, and then again. The unit was short-cycling, turning on and off in rapid succession. By the fourth or so time he was out here, he was annoyed -- WITH ME -- and told me there was nothing wrong with the unit. I can only surmise he believed I was keeping my balcony door open for my pets to go outside, and that I didn't understand I was heating my own condo. Which wasn't the case.

Of course I was speaking with the manager as this was unfolding -- ALL SUMMER LONG -- who was about to have the Carrier representative come out to examine the unit with him, considering the circumstances, when the temps cooled off slightly and the unit began to function properly, as I had explained repeatedly it had been doing -- working fairly well when it was cooler.

Here we are in the coldest snap of this winter, and the unit is frozen solid with ice INSIDE it. And, of course, not working.

THREE CALLS to schedule service have been met with polite responses, but have netted no return calls; the last one explaining that all the managers are out in the field and that it's a crazy day here today. No doubt, if other customers are getting new heat pumps with the problems mine has had.

Once this is settled -- if it is without a lawsuit -- I'm done with A-1 and will go directly to brand name manufacturers for things I need for my home.

If I could put minus stars on here, I would. VERY disappointed, upset, frustrated and angry.

We had a leak somewhere under our sink and my husband wasn't able to locate and fix it. We'd previously used A-1 American (found them on the yellow pages) and was satisfied with the service so called again. They sent out John and Larry. They called ahead to let us know they were on the way and arrived on time. They quickly found and fixed the problem. Both technicians were courteous and professional, and the cost was reasonable. We would definitely use A-1 American again.

Response time was good. The problem was water under the house in the crawl space which they never looked at. They took some pictures by holding their out turned hand with camera pointed under the house and said they would get back to me. Never heard from them again and never returned my calls. I found out later that the problem was a clogged A/C drain line. Another company found the problem in 5 minutes and fixed it the same day for $150.00 with a six month warranty. I really have to question a professional company that could not identify a simple plumbing 101 problem. The least they could have done was to return my call so that I could have called someone else before a week went by. I was lucky it was a simple problem and that had the time to correct it before it became major. I can't recommend them from this experience but you can be your own judge. Just a final note. I am also American.

Technician arrived one day later than expected.We had a kitchen faucet,PVC [trap] leak. He looked over the situation; diagnosis: seemed like a complete replacement that would cost about $800+. stayed about 15min.; cost $78.00. Talked to someone else about the kitchen problem;even without seeing ; they told me how it could be repaired for far less.Wont bother with this company again.

On their website they listed free estimates for tankless water heater install. I called and scheduled for them to come out for an estimate and they charged me the $78 service fee (I've never heard of a company charging for an estimate on a major project like that). And then argued with me over it despite what their website says. The person I spoke to on the phone said they'd discuss the situation with their supervisor and call back. I never heard back from them and then a month later I receive a notice from a collection agency. It seems really petty that they couldn't call back and work this out with me and goes to show that they care more about the bottom dollar than customer service. Of course I used another company to get my hot water heater upgraded. A-1 American missed out on a several thousand dollar project because they didn't want to honor the free estimate listed on their website and milk me for a service fee instead.

Called A-1 to have them look at a drain that had backed-up into the bathtub. The plumber they dispatched, Jeremy S., arrived in the time promised and quickly got to work finding the problem. After having to use a couple different roto-rooters, he was able to determine my clog was caused by 70-year-old Orangeburg sewer pipe that had finally collapsed in several places between the house and road. Inspection under the house also revealed deterioration of a cast iron pipe that was leaking into the crawlspace whenever the sewer backed-up. I had to replace the entire sewer, but he quoted and handled the job as quickly as possible with minimal interruption to service and without any cost overruns. My front yard took a beating, but a lot of excavation was necessary to reach the deeper than normal sewer. Jeremy had a very high quality of workmanship and seemingly tireless work ethic. Definitely will call A-1 again for any plumbing needs, which hopefully won't be necessary anytime soon with my all-new plumbing!

I was very disappointed and frustrated to say the least. We had some type of clog in our drain and called them to come out and see what the issue was around 1 pm. I was told someone would be out today. At 5, I called to see if they had any update and was told I was the technician's next job. At 7:30 I called again for an update but the office was closed. I got the on-call electrician who didn't have any idea about my job but gave me another number to call. I called (twice), and left a message (twice). Over the next 3 hours called multiple times looking for an update, got NOTHING..... I ended up just calling another company (should have done 4 hours ago). After reading these reviews, I'm almost happy this company never made it out to my place.

We were pleased with the services of A-1. We called them early on the July 18 and they had a tech out that afternoon. Jeff was pleasant and professional. The cost was high, but was expected since we were totally out of Freon. He also told us since it was a fairly new unit that A-1 would help us with any warranty issues with the company if it was needed. It's something they do if they can help. They also give senior discount, which really helps in today's prices. Now that's service!

Last year, we had a heat pump problem, Jake came out and looked at it, and said it was a breaker issue; the unit would have to be replaced sooner or later, but he could replace the breaker and that would get us by for a while. So we did that.

Fast forward a year. In September we came back from vacation to discover the heat pump had died again, and we called A1. Jake arrived quickly, and tried replacing a breaker again, but this time the unit really needed to be replaced. I spent a couple of days calling around to verify that his quote was a good price, then we set up the install. Jake and his helper came right on time. (That's a key point for me--my experience with other contractors has been that many of them show up late, or never show at all...). They were courteous, careful to clean up afterwards, and they tested the unit to be sure everything was working. And he worked out an extra discount so it ended up costing a little less than what I'd expected.

We have had a very positive experience with A-1 American. Our garbage disposal stopped working one evening. The next morning, we called and a service technician was scheduled for later that day. The tech arrived on time, went straight to work and had our disposal back in working order in no time at all. No mess no worries.
Our home is 35+ years old and although we have done the periodic maintenance, I'm sure the future holds many repair/maintenance projects and in those cases I feel confident that we will be calling A-1 American for service.

My husband called them to come out to check our water heater. The technician came out went to the water heater, never touched it just looked and told me what he thought was wrong with it. He had the price book in his hand and said it would cost 899 to fix. I asked him to write that down and let us think it over.. I them called Miller's who came out and cleaned some wiring and got our pilot light started back up and charged us 300. We are now fighting paying this company a service charge.. Why should we pay for service if no service was done,, all your tech did was stand there and tell me what he thought was wrong and show me the prices? The technician last name was Martin. We are now calling the corporate office and the BBB.

On 8/7/15 my down stairs tube and shower was leaking so I call A-1 American and they told me it would be about 2 hours before they could get someone to my home. But that was not the case a man name John showed up within one hour after I made the call and when John got to my house he not only made me feel at ease my hole family felt at ease. I called A-1 American Services to fix a leaky master bathroom shower. The two employees who showed up were extremely knowledgeable. They took the time to explain exactly what was wrong with the shower and how they were going to fix it. The repair was made with a reasonable amount of time once the parts were purchased. Called A-1 because we didn't have hot water coming out. They said someone would be out by 2pm but nothing til after 6. The guy showed up looking pretty rough not professional. He proceeded to check the water heater and said pilot won't stay on. Quoted a repair for parts that were not needed and a 800.00 service. Turns out the unit was working and is still under warranty which they installed by the way. He flat out miss diagnosed the issue. I called to speak to a manager but haven't heard anything back. I'm just glad I got a 2nd opinion before forking over money.

I called A-1 this morning to check on prices for a minor repair. Our puppy chewed up the power cord to the AC unit. We just needed that wire replaced. They told me $78 to evaluate and we would get a quote from there. I called and compared it with another company or two. After that I called them back and scheduled my repair for today. Me and my wife could NOT do another night roasting like last night. The technician, Jake B., came out quickly evaluated the problem (power cord needed replaced) told me what he was going to do and the cost. A bit higher than I thought it would be but reasonable. I told him to go ahead with the repairs. He not only did the repairs, but did some minor touch ups (i.e. bundling cords and taking preventive measures against puppies and wild weed whackers) as well. It was obvious he took pride in his work and the company he works for.
I will have NO hesitation in recommending this company and technician to my friends and family. I will also have no hesitation in calling them for any future work that I may need.

Everything started with the downstairs unit no longer working. After paying $495.00 a week later the unit still did not work. Once I called again and paid another $78.00 for the call, we found out there was a switch that needed to be replaced. This replacement came out to another $470.00. Once I asked how much the part was and how much of it was labor they then informed me it was a flat rate on labor. Therefore I'm going to pay a total of $700.00 for 2 hours of labor. When I asked if it could be pro rated on the second visit considering it was only going to take 15 minutes they refused to work with me. They were very arrogant on the phone, they don't clearly out line what your cost will be. For anyone with air conditioning issues these guys would be the last on my list. I'd rather just sit in a hot house then deal with them.

We were in the final week of selling our house so finding a good contractor was critical to completing the sale. Aaron and Dave from A-1 came to the house and fixed all the inspection discrepancies and found other plumbing and HVAC issues that needed corrected. They finished all the work in one afternoon and I wasn't even in town. There work was noted as exceptional by the inspector and they were key to allowing us to complete the house sale. They are A-1 !!

They charged $520.00 for less then 1 hour - strictly labor ZERO PARTS.
My system was WORSE the next day after they left.
When I called them to come back out, zero response.
When I did finally get ahold of a manger he told me I should have called the person who installed my system, instead of calling them. I asked to speak with a owner he told me the owner of this company didn’t want to talk to me.
My system was less then a year old.
I made the mistake of not researching the company before having them come out.

I have use A1 in the past and for the most part satisfied, however, my last experience was a waste of time and money. My A/C was not blowing air and temp would not go below 78 with the unit running non stop. The tech (Thomas) arrived, he looked at my thermostat and told me that is was cheap, he then looked (literally stood there and looked) at the unit in my attic, then went outside and looked, again stood there and looked at the unit, came back in the house put a tissue on the return and said that basically I could have a blockage in the system but suggested I just replace the unit because I had a mis-matched system. I told him that A1 installed the system and don't know why they would mis-match it. I asked him if he could check to see if the system was clogged, his reply - that would be a waste of time, that I should just replace the unit. When I questioned him he got rude and told me that he would not give me anymore advise. He was at my house for all of 10 minutes, he never even picked up a tool to check anything. I had to pay a $78.00 service fee for him to look around scratching his head.

Don't get fooled by their coupons on their web site, they triple overcharge and then they give you a discount coupon!!!!
I would like to share my experience with this company which would be unfair to future customers if I don't write the truth.
Two weeks ago one of my AC outdoor unit stopped working and unfortunately I called them since the unit was purchased from them years ago. After a few phone call on a Friday morning the technician arrived at 12pm and suggested two possibility the first capacitor for $560 or Compressor for $2000 and I had no idea that capacitor is a just $25 part which takes 30 second to change. So I agreed and signed and he changed the capacitor unit was fixed and charged me $479.
The same day I found out this service including part only cost $150 on a normal day which is not late night or week end days.
I called and complained for being triple charged they said they check and get back to me, it is 2 weeks passed and no news from them.
I already filled a complain through BBB. Their web site does not allow
to leave a review since has a password, so I am not sure how all those positive reviews got there.
It would be their lost since I was planning to renew my AC units but I will buying them from an honest company who does not fool clients.

I made the right choice calling A-1 American. When the technician showed up the next day to replace my backyard water hose faucet it was about 50 degrees with a little rain. By the time he finished the work it was 42 and coming down. I watched him as he did a wonderful job, better than I could have ever done. The entire time he was half inside my crawlspace suffering from the weather and the cramped quarters of the crawlspace. We exchanged a few jokes and laughs but he was all business and made sure the work was quality before he packed up his tools and headed off to his next job. I would request the technician again and would certainly call A-1 American for all/any work. Great folks to work with on the phone and in person when the service tech shows up. It was money well spent and now I have one less headache.

Jake and Scott Fowler came to my house on 07/28/2014, because my air conditioning unit was not cooling properly. After several tests, they came too the conclusion that the compressor was shot. Jake offered different options for us too do, and we decided on a new unit in and out of house. They completed the job, in the time we had discussed, left everything clean, and were very courteous and respectful when they were here. We will continue to do our business with A-1 American.

A-1 representative, Jeremy, responded very quickly to a leak in the slab. He arrived on time and gave a text notice that he was on the way.

He assessed the situation and capped off the pipe to prevent further leaking. This was a quick and inexpensive fix. He also removed the water spigot connected to the faulty line and capped it.

He then applied a T spigot on the inlet pipe to the hot water heater. This fix provided a source of water for the front yard using a garden hose connection.

Both solutions fixed the problem and we're done professionally. I appreciate the fast response and professionalism by the A-1 representative. The solutions saved further water damage and inexpensive fixes.

Would love to review their actual work, but they never showed up. My wife made an appointment for today - they wouldn't give a timeframe, which is annoying, but we called yesterday, so we figured the next day is pretty good. Anyhow, she waited ALL DAY. Finally, at 7pm she called to see if anyone was coming and the lady who answered the phone assured us they were, and would call when they were 30 minutes out. Never got a call that they were coming, never got a call that they weren't. She called back again at 9:30 because we assumed they wouldn't be showing up after 10 and got their answering service, who, as all answering services are, was completely useless and just tell you to call back in the morning because they can't look at appointments or do anything helpful. Lots of commercials on TV - seems most others have positive experiences, so I hope we were the exception, but I can guarantee I will not be recommending them to anyone else.

The company charged me for paying the bill with a credit card. I asked the technician why they charge for using credit cards to which he explained that credit card companies often do this. I called my credit card company to inquire. They said no, we don't charge extra for using the card. I called the technician again and this time he explained that some credit card companies use a middle man to manage accounts. I called the credit card company again and the answer was no, there aren't any such extra charges. I called the technician and asked to cancel the credit card charge and I'll pay with a bank check. He said he'll call the front office to get permission and get back with me. I waited a week and he never got back. So I called the company and explained the situation. The clerk asked for the invoice number and reviewed it with me -- she simply read the charges on the invoice. I said I can read the numbers. There are values in the VALUE RATE column as well as values in the STANDARD RATE column. I thought I was getting charged the VALUE RATE. I asked what the $476.84 charge is for in the STANDARD RATE column which when added up with the other charges amounted to $6461.20. I told her that there is no description in the DESCRIPTION space for the $476.84 charge. I was charged the STANDARD RATE and told before the service that I was to get the VALUE RATE. The clerk explained that she doesn't know why the technician charged what he did and went on to explain that only the tech knows what the charge is for. What? The management office doesn't understand charges on the invoice? She said she would call the technician and have him get back with me. This was a week ago...I'm still waiting. I've tried reaching the technician myself a few times...no answer. Ironically, there were several phone exchanges prior to the service to get the service scheduled. Seems to me they work hard to get the work, do the work, overcharge you, can't come up with an explanation for the overcharge, then ignore you. I don't recommend A-1 American. I do recommend they drop the A-1 from their name and American as well. They're not A-1 and they're not honest; therefore, not American.

Really annoyed with rhe technicians that came out to look at the unit because within 10 minutes they came back inside to inform me that they couldn't fix the ac because they didn't want to go into the mud and to call them on Monday when I lay down a board for them to work on. I have not had the best experience with this particular contractor. I will not name the technician that service my equipment but he was not polite and his customer service was trash. Talking to management wasn't any better and my issue never got resolved. (Thank you for responding because the full story is such. Not even two years ago my 94 year old grandmother got you guy to install a gas package unit. Not even 30 days after the installation the compressor went out and instead of taking the unit out. Your company convinced my grandmother in the middle of June that replacing the compressor was the best option at that point and you could be out next day to replace the compressor. The other option was to wait two weeks until you could send someone out to take the defective unit out. So of course she said replace the compressor to get some cooling. Fast forward to today and your company again with poor customer service wanted to charge my grandmother for a disconnect box that should have been replaced at the time of the installation of the package unit, the front desk representative hung up the phone on my grandmother, and TC a technician told me that he did not feel the need to give me a courtesy call when he was in route to the property. The water had been running in my toilet for over a year, and no one could seem to fix it until I called A-1 American. I'm glad I called these professionals. Herman from A-1 came out and did an amazing job with my furnace. He took the time to answer all of my questions and was very helpful. Unfortunately I had been without heat for a couple of days and needed it on for my kids. I paid almost $600 for a new igniter unit for my system. After looking on line, the part, for all the places I looked, was only a $50 part. So I was charged appx $550 for less than an hour of work. I will be calling the manager on monday and will not be using these guys again. Make sure you do your homework first. Unfortunately I didn't.

Update 2: Well, a couple days after A-1 replaced the capacitor, the AC fan motor wouldn't come on so I engaged an alternative company. The tech replaced the capacitor (again) and mentioned that it looked like the original capacitor wasn't ever replaced. Curious. A week or so later my AC has stopped working entirely. It seems A-1 installed the incorrect capacitor and the second company just swapped one for one like is expected. A-1's mistake has now caused me two separate AC failures in the course of a couple weeks. What a waste of money and horrible experience this has been.

Update: A-1 has gotten in touch with me and has lowered the price to a much more reasonable sub-$600 figure. Considering it's middle of summer and an emergent call, I do feel this is a much more reasonable cost for the work done. The tech and office staff were kind and respectful but I do feel that without this review and the follow up from office staff that I would have overpaid for the work done.

Had A-1 come out after an unexpected HVAC unit compressor failure. They charged nearly $600 to install a new capacitor claiming they did a low voltage ground check and another $600 to install a hard start kit. The material cost is less than $50 and it took them less less than 10 minutes. And I don't think I ever saw them even use a multimeter. Over $1100 for about 10 minutes of plug & play electrical work? I regret ever calling them and wish I had done it myself or called a more reasonable company.

Edit - Just went out and looked at the work they did. The hard start kit (little black clyinder in the pic) wasn't even secured to anything. Just stuffed into the wiring. Not the quality of workmanship I expected.

On June 11th we called to have A-1 American come out and take a look at my AC unit. I had turned it on for the first time in a while (since I returned from deployment in November and didn't need to) and it wasn't cooling. They said that they would come between 9-12 the following day. No show. Called the company and they aplogogized and rescheduled for the next day. That's the first of many complaints. The technician Wayne, shows up and says that I was out of refrigerant and that needed a leak check. For $942.14 (with a military discount) he performed an electronic leak check and a nitrogen pressure check. He stated that there was no leak and that somehow something/someone may have been tampered with and let out the refrigerant. That is the only service that was signed for. He said it would take a full day for the house to cool. I set the thermostat to 75°F and let it be. After a full day it cooled down some, but day two it was 85° inside again. I went outside the following day (3 days later) and the lines were frozen. I shut everything down. I called back and called them again. Wayne came back on the 19th and pressurized/isolated the system and said he had another job to do and would come back the following day. Little did I know that he meant that he was cutting the lines and tearing apart my unit. I came outside to find my unit in pieces. He returned Sunday to say that the evaporator coil had a leak in it and the system was out of coolant. How would a leak so large to empty the unit in a couple of days not be detected with the electronic leak check or pressure test???? Today he calls and says it will be $1200 to replace the coil. Tried to call back, no answer. Tried to contact the manager and he was in a meeting for all 3 phone calls amd that he would call back. Of course no call. This is outrageous. I've contacted my insurance comany to have an investigator come out and look at the unit in pieces. I did not sign any authorization for this work and did not realize he was going to leave it like this in wait for me to pay another $1200 for the indoor evaporator coil. The coil is $400 at best, this guy isn't worth $800 in labor.

I was pleased with the professionalism of the two gentlemen, Larry and John, when they came to my home. I needed my outdoor faucet fixed to prevent further leaking. They were able to fix it in no time. I liked the part when they were troubleshooting. They gave me the specifics......ie, if this doesn't work, we'll have to do this. I had a leak from the diverter in my shower. They were going to replace that and my fixtures. Those come in the same kit at Home Depot for 100 to 200 dollars. The first price quote they gave me for this job was $1102.00. When I asked them how they got that price and what the breakdown was they could not answer me. I told them no, so the teck said hold on I am going to call dispatch. Within 5 minutes the price went down to $742.00. when I asked how they went down that much. Their answer was we gave you a 10% discount and charged you for a different service. In 5 minutes they were willing to rip me off for $360.00. That's not someone I want to do business with. How many people have they ripped off that don't know any better or are in a bind and have to fix something right then and there.

Gentleman came out to my home, to look at my heating unit. I advised the gentleman that the gas company came out because of a CO2 emission from the unit. The tech turned the unit back on (after I advised him that Va Natural Gas advised NOT to turn the unit on). He turned the unit back on and left it on, leaving my family and myself exposed to CO2 leaking. An absolutely dangerous and potentially deadly situation! Horrible experience period!

The service call transpired as everyone hopes a service call will. I called A-1 American early in the morning and was promised help before noon. Larry and John were at the house by 10:00 AM. After quickly assessing the situation, they got to work and though they encountered unexpected challenges, they were able to resolve everything so that our bathroom was fully functional before noon had arrived. The house remained as neat as before they arrived; professional, polite, reasonable rates, and on-time--there is nothing more that I could have asked to receive.

Our family hired A1 American to install a new HVAC unit 2 years ago and since then they've come out for routine maintenance and a couple times for repair calls. I would recommend this company to friends and family. Most recently, Jake Blackburn came out on a weekend to make repairs. He did a great job! I know how busy they are, especially during these cold winter days. Jake is clearly a veteran technician who takes pride in his work. Thank you for your help.

Requested A-1 American to come and check our water heater for a minor gas leak. Paid $78 for technician to come and give details about repair. Price to replace was higher than any business around. They needed my credit card number to prepare for possible parts ordering to repair. During the midst of crawling around the attic with him he had me sign a paper supposedly to charge for their visit. Next day I see $600 charged to my card. Got quote by phone for an extreme amount to replace the unit so I asked them to cancel the job. They charged me another $60 to cancel. Beware of A-1s extreme rates and be sure to read the fine print on anything you sign. They should change their name to Z-1 UnAmerican! So let me see now. I paid $158 to A-1 American to do absolutely nothing?

Found out Christmas Eve that my downstairs heat pump was not cooling. Waited till Saturday to call A-1. They got a Tech out to the house within 2 hrs. When the Tech got to the house (Antwain) explained the history of the unit and we talked about the best way to proceed being it had a history of leaking Freon. He determined that the evaporator coil in the air handler was the culprit, we confirmed this thru a leak test with die. Antwain was very professional took the time to answer all my questions which there were a lot of. I know enough about the system and what should be done and I tell you he hit the every point that needed to be done. As long as Antwain is working for A-1 they are my service company of choice. Replaced both evaporator coil, pressure tested, installed new inline filter/dryers and charged the system. You can trust this man without a doubt, he wants to make sure you are satisfied and get the best service. Many people would have tried to sell me a whole new system or air handler when all that was needed was the coil. Great job.

We found we had a leak from the kitchen drain pipe behind the wall. Jeremy at A1 American arrived on time and quickly identified the source of the leak. A/C froze up and quit a month ago. Replaced compressor for $3900. 2 weeks later it froze up again. Called but had to wait 2 days for it to thaw. They added Freon. Saturday it died again. Not frozen but pops breakers. Called and was told manager would contact me. No call back. Monday morning (after 2, 90 deg days) I called and manager said I was on the list but We don't give times of arrival. Wrong answer. FIRED.

Saturday 12/06/14: 40-foot drainage line between house and grinder pump blocked. I had previously probed the pipe finding that the first 35 feet from the house were clear. A-1's Brian Baines confirmed it and cleaned out a small blockage within about 15 minutes of arriving. Brian and his helper were proficient and friendly. I was very happy with the service.

We called A-1 for our furnace. I do not recommend using this company...EVER. Total rip off. The tech named James was horrible at communicating the problem that was really going on. He way over charged for a job he did in literally 5 minutes using a part that cost $10. He told us he was fixing one thing and turned around and said he was fixing something else. He left the old part just lying on my washing machine when he left and he did not put the sides back on the furnace when he was done. Left it open while it was running and that is a big no! I had to put the sides back on myself. The furnace sounded lousy even after he fixed what said needed to be fixed and only a couple weeks later, our furnace has died again. When called to complain, he informed us that sure he'd come check to see if something wasn't done right but that he'd charge us an estimation fee just to do. I will never use this company again and I do not recommend you use them either. Terrible service...total rip off....terrible company.

Today, I was rendered service by Joe Canale and what an exemplary employee he is with A-1 American. Joe exhibited the utmost professionalism and took pride in his work. He went above and beyond in his job to render the services that were required in reference to the repair of the ac unit at my residence. Unfortunately the service experience was not as great. The technician was at my home for less than an hour and I was charged $886 just to clear a blocked water line. This was the price with a 10% military discount applied. Furthermore, they took a week to take the payment from my account.

I was told by several people that the technician definitely took advantage of me and that at most, the job should have been about a third of what I paid. I do not plan to use them in the future nor will I be recommending them to anyone else. I appreciate that my sinks are not backing up anymore, but would have been a repeat customer if they were up front with me.

While the fixes haven't been tested yet - we will see on a super hot or very cold day here soon, our technician Jake came up with a couple different solutions for us. We obviously went with the lower cost solution in the hopes that this will solve our problem. Jake was communicative, on time and cleaned up after his work. So far so good.

I wish I could share picture of how dirty my bathroom was left. The plumber from this company was suppose to find out why my pipes were backed up and ended up quoting to have all my drain lines replaced. I went ahead with the extremely high quote and what was suppose to be a two day job has now been 5. My plumbing is still backed up and nothing is different beside the way he has destroyed my house. I will be talking to the owners tomorrow and I will not be letting the tech back in my house. This is beyond crazy!!! Then he charged me 750 to sump my basement just to look at the plumbing he said was ruptured!! Wow. What’s the worst of it all is that he stayed til 9pm working each day and had me and my wife helping him with the bathroom plumbing because he could not do. It alone. Unacceptable!!!!

A leaking Water Main Line under the crawlspace was causing me a real headache, not to mention a rising water bill. I called the A-1 Emergency Line and within 2-hours, they were at my front door. What professionals... courteous, easy o talk to, and very knowledgeable. They provided a written estimate and explained the entire procedure for the replacement. I also acquired two additional quotes from two other competitors, but A-1's professionalism and price won the day. They arrived the next morning, and they completed the job in a timely manner. I must say, that if A-1 American relies on their technicians to provide excellent service and customer satisfaction, they get A-plus in all categories. Job WELL DONE!

He was knowledgeable, polite, and let me know at every stage of the analysis what he was doing and what the charges would be. He fixed what turned out to be an electrical problem promptly. They deserve a less than ZERO rating. This company prides itself on being American... yet they left a military family including two little girls age 1 and age 3 in the intense heat on one of the hottest weekends of the year after sabotaging their unit. They are despicable! Our story: We had a service technician (Jake B) come out to our home to fix our air conditioning unit. The man showed up on a non-holiday (Thursday July 2nd) and looked at the machine and said we needed a new capacitor. He replaced the capacitor in 5 minutes and then told us how much it was going to cost without even asking permission to change it. He quoted us something in the high $400 range, we looked shocked and he then told us he would give us a special needs discount (we are not special needs BTW) and he charged us $385. After feeling cornered we paid the bill and he left. A couple hours later the air conditioning unit started making a weird noise, we inspected the unit and noticed the fan was not on and it had shut off and was extremely hot to the touch. We called Jake B back, he promptly returned and investigated the unit again. He said we would need a new fan motor. We asked a few questions about cost, he quoted us $670 and told us he was giving us a incredible discount. We reluctantly agreed feeling like we were being scammed. He left to go find a fan but called and said because of the holiday coming up that the stores had closed and he would have to leave us for the rest of the weekend without AC until a store opened but he would check his warehouse for one the next day. Later the following night, out of desperation, my husband checked the AC unit to see if he could see if he could somehow fix the unit because our two little children were overheating in our house because of the really hot weather. He then noticed that Jake B had wired the capacitor incorrectly and had connected the wires to the incorrect terminals. My husband knows enough about engineering to know very COMMON things that ANY ac repairman should know if he is working on a unit. After realizing the repairman had sabotaged our unit to charge us for a fan motor my husband checked the price of the capacitor online that Jake B had replaced and the cost was $35. We realized at this point that we had been ripped off. Jake B had not only overcharged us but he purposely hooked up the capacitor wrong so that unit would overheat so that he could come back and charge us for a new fan motor. Our two children, one year old and three year old spent 2 days in extreme heat because of this. We tried repeatedly to contact the manager of the company and were told on several occasions that he would call us back. We have never heard from anyone and have left over 10 messages for him to call us. We have paid $385 for 5 minutes of work and a $35 dollar part. This company scams it's customers! Two small children in extreme heat? on purpose? I cannot even believe someone would do such a thing! You should be ashamed of yourself A-1!!! And the manager did not even care to respond to us.

After I discovered that my AC unit was leaking and my secondary drain pan was overflowing on the overhead ceiling causing a dis-colorization of my walls and overhead, I call A1 American. I made an appoint to have a technician come out to my home, Mr. Jake showed up and did a overview of my situation, he advise me that my unit need replacement because of the age and the condition of the coils and the rusting of the secondary pan, he also pointed out the in four years every house AC units will be changing from R-22 to 10A.. I decided to take his advise and replace the unit and I believe that it was the best decision I made. my new unit is working well and it looks good and more important is the warranty package (10 years) can't beat that. Jake was a true professional and I will recommend him for anyone looking for advise on replacing your AC unit, he knows what he is doing and will offer you the best advise.

Great experience! I was surprised they were able to fit me in the same day as it wasn't an emergency. The technician (Steve Ruger) was polite, professional and fixed my bathroom leak after hours! What a relief. I would not hesitate to call them for future needs.

This happened a year and a half ago, but I felt compelled to share my experience. I wish I could add a more favorable opinion of these folks. I came home from a tip to a cold house. Phoned A-1 and they came out to look at my Carrier furnace. They came out and did diagnose the problem. My furnace needed a small circuit board of some type. It was small and appeared to contain a couple of capacitors which should be pretty inexpensive parts. They had to order the part, which took over a week. I was told the service call would cost me $500.00 but that the cost of the part would come off my bill, to which I agreed, after all, it was January and my house was pretty chilly.

The part eventually came in (late) and the furnace came on. ..

I did not receive a receipt, describing what had been replaced. I phoned to ask for my paperwork and ended up speaking with a woman whose English was so poor, that I could not understand her very well )what happened to the American in A-1 American??? In fact the service tech's English was pretty poor as well.). Needless to say, nothing showed up in the mail. Phoned again and was assured that someone would call me back. I am still waiting for that call and have never received any paperwork describing the diagnosis and part that was ordered and what that part cost.

Poor service, poor communication and lack of an accounting as to what my $500 was used for are the reasons why I have rated A-1 as low as possible. Although my experience with these people is after-the-fact, this is what happened to me.

I am currently away on travel and my heat downstairs stop working. I called A1 American and they started they would come out and there will be a surcharge of 78.00. And it would be subtracted if they made the repair. After talking to the technician on the phone he state he would have to check the electric circuitry first which would be over 500.00 however with a military discount it would be 289.00. I stated it is probably the pilot but he stated some crap about still checking the circuitry. So he arrived and was there for 15 mins only in the attic for ten minutes. As I expected it was the pilot. And yet I was still charged 289.00. I will never use there service again and wouldn't recommend anyone else use this company.THEY ARE THE BIGGEST RIPOFF IN VA!!!!!!

I was having a problem with my furnace. Heat was not coming out. I check several heating companies in the area and I found that A-1 American has the best review. I called them. When they arrived, they introduced themselves as Jon and Wayne. They were so courteous, efficient and knowledgeable. They fix the problem, and charged a very reasonable price. I thought it will cost me an arm and a leg.
I will recommend A-1 American as a very dependable company.

10 years ago, A-1 American Services installed my water heater. Monday afternoon, I noticed the drain pan were full of water so I called the company immediately. Within 30 minutes, technician Jeremy called and told us he was on the way to check the water heater. We were lucky that we caught the problem before any mass damage happened. Jeremy clearly explained the replacement costs with the applicable discounts and scheduled the installment. The next morning, Jeremy showed up on time with the new water heater, and later on the owner of the company also joined him as the helper. They were very professional, friendly and respectable. As well as being efficient, the installation went smoothly and only took 3 hours. Jeremy cleaned up after the work was done, and patiently helped us to fill out the Virginia Natural Gas Energy Rebate form. It was a pleasant experience with the A-1 American Service and is highly recommend of their service to my community.

Ac repair tech James did not know i was technician myself. Did not thoroughly trouble shoot my system, and tried to repair my air handler charging me $1500.00 with out checking if my unit was under warranty. Called another guy and he put in my new blower all for $200.00. These guys are a rip off. And had the nerve to give me attitude because i asked for a breakdown of why1500. If you are not knowledgeable of anytype of system, and they know it, get a second opinion. You suck A1 and made me a very upset customer.

David arrived on time on day one of what turned into a multi visit job(s). Not due to any fault on his part. He was clean and courteous and explained everything before initiating repairs. Parts availability delayed work due to age of fixtures but David came through remaining in touch until all work was complete and done to our satisfaction.

We have had 2 issues with our air-conditioner in the last 3 months both different issues.We were given great service within a short period of time, with courteous repair men. They took pictures of the problem, gave us a fair estimate and fixed the problems both times. We knew what had to be repaired and that is what they did. My heating unit stopped working on 12/26/2013. They sent a technician out and replaced the heatstrip contrator. I wake up this morning (Sunday) and the heater is not working. My fiancée called them to come out and they told him that since it is warranty work, the same tech would have to come out and do the repair. The tech was really busy and couldn't come out until tomorrow.
I called them back about an hour later. I was told the same thing, that the tech is responsible for the warranty work. I told them I disagreed because I had paid A-1 for the repair, it was A-1's name on the contract/receipt, the tech's business card, advertisements on TV and the internet and the one stating satisfaction guaranteed, 24 hours, Saturday, Sunday and Holiday service. I asked them to send another tech. The guy said he would speak with the supervisor and get back with me.
They called me back. He said that he spoke with the tech and the tech said that when he came out the first time he told us that we needed to replace the entire unit. THIS WAS A TOTAL LIE. I told them it was not true the tech NEVER said that. Also, the tech even wrote on the invoice everything else checked out ok. I told him I wanted to speak with a supervisor and was told he was unavailable because he was in church. I asked to speak to a different supervisor or that supervisor's boss and was told he was it. At this point I told them I did not want the original tech to service my heater because he lied and I did not trust him. He said he would send the supervisor a text and get back to me.
I waited over 30 minutes before I decided to call another company. the other company was polite and said would have someone out before 6pm today.
In my opinion, NEVER use A -1 American. YOU WILL REGRET IT. They do not provide 24 hour emergency service and their customer satisfaction guarantees and warratees are a joke.
I should have read all the reviews before ever using them. I also feel that someone should investigate them for false advertising.

What a soup sandwich I inherited from this company! They installed a new Goodman system in the house right before I bought it which I thought was a great selling point. Unfortunately, everything they did was DON'T DO 101. I have had 3 companies come and look at it because it just runs all day everyday and now I have to have the whole system uninstalled, turned around to face the right way, reconnected, and all the ductwork reinstalled. None of the joints were sealed properly, had 4 takeoffs within a 2ft length, and duct running straight off the end of the main duct on both trunk lines. Definitely take your business somewhere else and save yourself the headache. Also forgot to mention that the unit didn't even have a drier in line on the compressor. Thx for reading.

Do not call unless you want to throw your money away. They will charge you an arm and a leg to seal a leak. It will cost you 591 dollars for them to seal and tighten a pipe. They will not provide you with any explanation for this. We did call the management for the cost and pricing. They told us they will call us back we called more than three times and still no answer. They will also wait a month to charge you for the service itself. They are not a business but a con. Do not recommend would give zero stars if it was an option.

RUDE. UNPROFESSIONAL. DISHONEST. I have never been compelled to write a review about a company until now. CHECK OUT THE REVIEWS ON YELP AND ANGIES LIST, TOO!!!

The first time I called, whoever I spoke with was rude and dismissive. Scheduled a Saturday appointment with no time window - she just said that they would call 30 min prior to showing up and that they work 24/7.

On the day of the appointment I called the company around 430pm because I had not been contacted. I was redirected to the duty cell phone of the on-call plumber. He did not know who had my ticket so he gave me the number of the on-call HVAC tech. I called him and he did not know who had my ticket either. The office is closed on the weekends so their advice was just to wait until I received the call. NO CALL.

Monday, I called the office and asked if I had the date right. Yep. The lady on the phone wasn't as rude as the first. She apologized for the inconvenience and asked if I wanted to reschedule. I asked what the discount was for wasting my Saturday waiting at the house for no call. She said she'd ask the manager. She called back in 5 minutes and said that Adam (the guy who was supposed to be my tech) called me on Saturday night around 9pm and multiple times on Sunday. I asked her if she had a cell phone and whether or not she was aware that phones these days show you when you miss a call - much less multiple calls. She argued that Adam's phone showed calls to my correct number. She said there would be no compensation and asked if I wanted to reschedule. I laughed and said good-bye.

Please do not waste your time with this joke of a company.

Can not recommend this company! I have been experiencing fumes when the furnace is running especially first thing in the morning. Service men were prompt. Came in and got to work with a flashlight and no other tools, although the helper carried a large tool box. After they located the thermostat they adjusted it so the furnace would come on.

After about 10 minutes he told me he had bad news for me, a cracked heat exchanger and I would need a new furnace. He also told me that the furnace wouldn't come on unless he held the button. I asked what did he do, because they was never a problem with the furnace coming on. I checked the thermostat and it was on 68 degrees, well below the temp of the room. So of course, one would need to manually ignite the furnace.

I asked him to show me the crack. He couldn't because he used no tools, nor electronic telescoping camera, only a flashlight. He showed me the burners in the furnace, first with without the fan and then turned on the fan to demonstrate the flames rolling saying that was symptomatic of a cracked heat exchanger. I didn't notice much difference. He talked about carbon monoxide and how the crack would get worse over time releasing more gases.

Finally, I told him I had a home warranty. He said they don't deal with warranty companies. I asked him to do a carbon monoxide test. They went out to the truck to get the monitor (hah!) and came back and said the office told him not to do the test because I have a warranty and they weren't going to make any money off me. His words, make any money off me. which I repeated out loud and shook my head. He then asked me for $78 for the service call.

In the end, I had the furnace inspected again, told them about the first diagnosis and they found no signs of a cracked heat exchanger, but they used no tools either, and of course could not smell anything.

Does anyone know where can I find an honest, knowledgeable service technician that is thorough, is not trying to pad their bill, and just plain and simply believes in excellence and doing the right thing by the customer? smh...

My mother called for emergency HVAC services.They told her someone could arrive the next day, but could not give her an arrival window. After 1pm on the day of service she called A1 to get an update on the technician's arrival. That representative said she couldn't tell her anything because the technicians were not in the office. I guess they don't have phones or some system of relaying their status to one another.??? After some prodding, Customer Service looked at their roster to see if the service call was on that days list and told my mother there were three jobs ahead of her .They said she didn't have wait at home because they would call when he was on the way After thinking it over my mother called back to see if the technician could really get to her that day since he had so many jobs ahead of hers.This customer service rep told my mother that they have been 2-3 days behind PRIOR to my mother contacting them
and there was no guarantee she would even be helped the following day as they only have 3 technicians. She also said my mother's name was not on today's list for any of the technicians - she was on a standby list. When my mother contacted A1 American they offered her next day service knowing they are several days delayed all along. When questioned, All the lady would say is that she wouldn't have handled my mother's calls the way her co-workers had and she could help her call around for service from another company. They had also offered my mother a returning customer discount which they denied because they could not find that she had been a customer before.
Due to copd my mother is having trouble breathing in this heat. They are putting her at risk with their tactics. She is now faced with finding another provider and paying extra for after hours service or weekend service . She had also asked them to look at a small plumbing repair at the same time and she will now be required to pay two separate service calls unless she can find another company that offers both HVAC and plumbing services.
This an unacceptable way to handle your business and customers. It would have been better if you had been honest the first or second time she called you so she could have found someone to help her quickly. It took three calls for the real story to be given. Every other company contacted knew their availability at the initial call. She hired A1 American because you said you could offer next day service. We would not known what was going on if she hadn't called back a third time and pressed for a better answer. She would have been waiting for days because your customer service was not truthful. I would give negative stars if I could.

Can't say enough good things about A1 American! We had a leak and we called the other A1 in error and spent $600 and all we got was a hole in the wall. Once we realized we had called the wrong A1 we got A1 American out there and they resolved the problem in a timely manner. The other company wanted $6000 to tear up the bedroom floor. A1 American discovered that the leak was in fact in the driveway not the bedroom and cost us a fraction of what the other guy quoted. Please do not confuse the other A1 with A1 American!!! Chris E was our technician for the initial diagnosis and follow up repair and he did an awesome job informing us what needed to be done and what he was doing and how long it would take. This company soaked me for $750 by mis-diagnosing a problem, charging me for an un-needed replacement part, asking me to wait for other parts on order, and in the middle of December after two weeks of waiting for parts, my house still had no heat.

Read below if you want the details.
I hired this outfit to troubleshoot and repair a Carrier dual zone HVAC system for which the furnace kept tripping off, shutting heat off on first floor. The tech replaced the main circuit-board on the system for $750, labor included. Problem was not resolved. It would run for about 20 min, then shut off again. He then stated he needed to order more parts, three limiter switches which he quoted at over $400 with labor. When I checked on line I found those switches for that unit for around $23 a piece, mother boards for the unit were priced between $139-280. Do the math, over $450 labor to swap out a circuit board? Which didn’t need swapping b/c clearly it wasn’t the cause of the issue.
The issue turned out to be a cracked heat exchanger, more on that later.

Two weeks after the initial trouble call, no parts had arrived and they were forecasting another three days before the limiter switches would arrive. Are they shipping those switches in from Siberia? No follow up either, they never even bothered to call me back to say why the parts were taking so long to order, or let me know they were still working the issue.

Two weeks without heat in December is too long. I decided to cut my losses before I was over a grand into these guys. I went with someone else, the problem was resolved the next day.

Post script: When the next technician I hired went into the box, he found that the rollout switch had been lifted out of the heat path, and that the high limit switch had been removed/jumped out to prevent the system from shutting off due to excessive temps. In other words, whoever did that was trying to trick the system NOT to trip due to overheat, risking a fire. Of course I can’t pin that work specifically on their technician. it’s a remote possibility that that jerry rigged system was installed previously by someone else working on the unit. But, given the circumstances, I’ll let the reader be the judge.

This company got $750 of my money without fixing anything. I felt cheated. But worse than that, it's a distinct possibility they put everyone in that house at risk, if that unit had caught fire. These guys claim to be veteran owned. I'm a veteran myself. I expect more from a veteran owned company. Wrapping yourself in the American flag to solicit business, then not standing by your product or service is shameful. Putting people at risk to make a quick buck is unconscionable.

What a pleasant and professional experience from the start. Phoned A-1 American and spoke with Candy, very kind and professional. I explained my problem and she said a technician would be calling me to let me know of arrival time. Technician Larry phoned 30 minutes prior to arriving. Once he arrived he quickly assessed the problem and fixed it at a reasonable price. We were having an issues with our AC unit not cooling our house. He thoroughly explained everything he was doing and educated me on some heating an cooling tips i was not aware of. I'm glad I called these professionals! Larry was very kind and helpful!

A-1 is by far the best company I have dealt. Not only did I get a quick response every time (within 5 minutes), but the technicians were thorough, professional, and on time for the job. It was evident that Kevin loves his job and enjoys helping people, and he treated us like we were family. He explained everything so that we understood every step, and the owner even contacted us to make sure we were happy. A-1 installed a whole new heating/cooling system including the thermostat and came back another day (for no extra charge) to test the a.c. and heat to make sure that both were working to perfection. I had a problem with NO heat, and have dealt with A-1 before for plumbing and was satisfied, so I called for HVAC help. From the phone call I had professional courteous response. The tech called within 15 minutes, and arrived 15 minutes after that. Jake is his name and made me feel very comfortable. After examining my furnace he recommended a new furnace (mine was 20 yrs used), but got it up and running. As a few days went by it stopped again, Jake returned and we decided on a new furnace. Within 6 hrs. we had heat at a very reasonable price. The tech (Jake B,) went beyond the call and cleaned up the install very professionally and looks 125% better than the last install from the last time from another company (20 years ago). I will recommend this company and Jake B. to others (already have). Thank you A-! American.

My heating system failed after 27 years. I called A-1 American for service (same company/same service technician who replaced my A/C unit 6 months before). Jake installed a new unit in less than half a day. Brand is Goodman. It works great. Lots of safety features. Now I don’t have to go up and down the attic to turn on/off the pilot light. Price quoted before installation is the price I paid. No extra charges for any incidental expenses during installation. Thank you Jake and thank you A-1 American

Called at 7:30 PM to request a plumber to repair a water leak in my living room wall. Plumber contacted me within 15 minutes and arrived 30 minutes later. Very pleasant and professional. He explained the work, quoted me a price and then went to work. An hour later repairs were complete and area cleaned up. He helped bleed the lines of air before leaving. Would definitely call them again.

We noticed a strange odor in one of our bathrooms, and couldn't get rid of it no matter how much cleaning I did or what products I used. And, I couldn't find a leak anywhere, so I started thinking maybe something was wrong with the toilet underneath. John, the technician, came and after much discussion about possible causes/problems/cost, it was decided to take a look under the toilet. After discussing the cost with me, he proceeded to remove the toilet and replace the wax ring. Sure enough, it was a mess under there. He was amazing. He cleaned up gunk and wiped the floor with bleach spray. He didn't mind me watching and even answered my questions in great detail. Super nice guy, very professional, very thorough. I do wish it hadn't cost so much ($580) but I did get good results for my money.

A-1 American provided excellent and quick service. They came out to service and repair my heating system and furnace. I had no heat for a week. My heat was just not working. The tech told me I have an Apollo system that uses my water heater to heat my furnace. They fixed it same day on a weekend. Fast, friendly, and courteous, I highly recommend their service. I would recommend them to anyone for heating, cooling, and plumbing.

AC was blowing hot air in upstairs on Saturday night; downstairs thermostat indicated 72 degrees, while upstairs thermostat indicated 85 degrees. Started calling 24-hour ac repair companies Sunday morning at 8 am, Doug (actual technician) with A-1 answered the phone and was at my house within 1.5 hours. He quickly diagnosed the problem, repaired the starter motor, and had cold ac blowing upstairs within 30 mins. Great experience and will definitely recommend A-1 in the future.

I would not recommend this company after this experience. No communication from them signed a contract with them to replace an A/C heating unit. While installing on a Friday a storm came up and they could not finish the job plus T.C's twins were having a birthday party that weekend. So he forgot to tell me after on that Friday I had paid them in full for my elderly mom that the gas line had to be replaced and said it would be 1,500.00.He told me on a Monday not figuring that might be important to the home owner.He then came back out on Monday that I was taking my mom to chemo treatment and she agreed to have him replace the gas line for no more than 1,000.and placed a dog house up and did not seal it wires are coming out of the unit and would get a crew together for the gas line replacement.So while at her chemo appointment T.C drops off the contract for the gas line contract #129344. That was the last we have seen the company and not heard a word from T.C since June 29. Since dropping off the contract my mom has died. Thanks for ripping off a dying woman. Will never use a veteran owned company again even though my dad himself is a veteran.

I called first thing this morning. They told me they would be here today. At the end of the day they told me they would be here in the morning. If someone can't believe them today what makes them think anyone would believe them tomorrow? Grand Daddy always told me a man is only as good as his word. I reckon that goes for businesses also...

You people just charged my elderly Mother $440.00 to replace the rubber gasket between the toilet and the tank? Seriously? That's a 30 minute job with a $2.00 part. Even if the flush kit had to replaced as well, that's 20 more minutes and another $20.00 kit, RETAIL. SHAME ON YOU!

I had a very noisy unit at my investment property which had been noisy from the time it was installed 2 years ago. The company that installed it (not A-1 American) was non-responsive to calls made by my tenant or me to address the problem. As I am about to move a new tenant into the property, I called A-1 American and Jake B diagnosed the problem and even did the repair on a Sunday so that the unit would be nice and quiet for my new tenants.

I called A-1 American to assist my heating problem during the cold spell of February. A-1 despatched James to look at our problem. He was able to bring the heater back on line, but my wife and I had been contemplating on replacing the HVAC System since last year because it's old (30 years) and its been hectic this past year and half having trouble keeping the AC/Heating at comportable temp. James helped us on figuring out the suitable tonnage for 2300 sqf home. He assured me that he will be able to have the old HVAC replaced in two days and he did. James is the most amicable and capable technician at work even with the freezing weather. His crew is as cortious as he is. Never missed a beat of smile at work even at a time of chilling weather and time constraints. He is the Jack of all trade.

Top Notch Service!

I have dual zone heating and cooling. Downstairs wouldn't blow air even though I heard the furnace kick on. Called A-1 American and they said they could come out the next morning btwn 9 and 12. Adam arrived 9:30.

Long story short, he quickly took apart the control board area of my heating unit outside and found a blockage on the piece that provides a spark to fire the furnace. Similar to the starter on a grill. The fix was five minutes. He also cleaned my unit and said it would be another two years before I would need another.

The entire time he was very professional and easy going and didn't mind me watching him do the work.

He left, my house was TOO HOT. The heater wouldn't cut off. I emailed A-1 and he promptly called back and made it a point to come back and assured me no charges will be made for the visit to make sure he didn't do anything wrong or left anything out of whack. Turned out it was the thermostat. He fixed it. Everything is great!

Adam is the man! I will definitely call A-1 again for my HVAC needs and will try to get ADAM for any of the jobs.

Our hot water heater was leaking onto garage floor and John very patiently explained what knobs to turn off and where each one was. Then he explained he was on a job but would finish in 20 minutes and would call when he was on the way. He did just that and was here in about 30 minutes. He checked the water heater and determined we needed a new one and said he'd be out the next morning to install one. He and Angelo came out the next morning and installation was completed in a couple of hours. The experience was great. They both were friendly and professional and what John initially said he woud do Sunday when I called...he did. Thank you A-1 American for employing such wonderful employees!

Overall: Excellent Service.
Removed old and installed new heat pump and air handler in 6 hrs including vacuum tests and flushes.
Explained in layman's terms all the features of the new units including how it will reduce electrical bills.
Cleaned up work in the garage leaving it looking better than when they started.

Ray McPherson is the technician who came out to see about the issue we were having with our tankless electrical water heater. He was very thorough about everything concerning the issue. He explained everything that he was doing and gave us an honest assessment of his findings and recommendations. I like the fact that he stuck with the job regardless of how difficult it was and stayed until the job was complete. We truly appreciate Mr. McPherson not leaving us hanging out there to wonder who's coming next to figure out the issue instead sticking with the job. I called this morning and had an avle and qualified technician ,Duane, here un about 2 hours. He quickly diagnosed and repaired our problem. I do not live in VA full-time, however, twice, on separate occasions, in the last few months, I needed emergency service on both my water heater and kitchen faucet, and both times A-1 responded immediately and provided quick, efficient and professional services, which respected the short-time we were available at our VA home. We also really appreciated the follow-up they provided as well, to ensure that the replacements and repairs made were satisfactory.

I made an appointment for a Saturday Afternoon job. About 5:00, I still hadn't heard from anyone. I called and the answering service informed me they had no idea what I was talking about. He then said he would call his manager and get right back to me. 45 minutes later I called again and was told the technichian would contact me.
He did and seemed like he was really inconvenienced to have to come out on the job and had a terrible attitude, was not professional and was very rude.
When he did finally show up, I was charged $78 (he wouldn't even look at the job until I signed for that). Then he informed me that my job would cost $450.
The job in question was a simple tub faucet replacement. $450 + the $78 seemed completely out of reality. I declined the service.
I then had a neighbor look at it, he fixed it in 15 minutes and the total price was $14.99 for the replacement faucet.
You be the judge: $528.00 vs $14.99. I will NEVER do business with this company and I will be spreading the word personally and on social media: DO NOT USE A1 AMERICAN!!!

Proceed with caution!!! My husband called to this company to have them check a gas leak that Virginia Natural Gas had detected, and identified a possible bad safety control switch. We needed a diagnosis and estimate on the safety control switch. We got a salesman appearing as a technician. The guy did not bring any tools into our home, with the exception of a ladder. He went into the attic where the furnace is located. His assessment was telling my husband that the furnace was manufactured in 1993. He then tried to sell my husband a new furnace for $4,500. My husband asked about the bad safety switch. The salesman/technician would not discuss that issue. Everything was about big ticket sales for him. He then, tried to sell my husband a new furnace plus an air conditioning unit for $8,500. My husband told him that our a/c unit had been replaced less than five years. The salesman/technician continued pressing my husband about the purchase. He presented invoices for my husband to sign. Of course my husband declined and told the guy he would get a second opinion. Lastly, my husband was quoted $85 over the phone for the service fee. the technician tried to charge my husband $97 for the service fee. In the end we wasted $85 for nothing. We've gotten a second opinion from a trustworthy company. This company conducted a thorough check. Thankfully, we do not need a new furnace or a/c unit. Thank God there are still honest people out there!

I had a jammed garbage disposal.I called A1 and their Rep told me it was $75 to come out and if a service was done they would roll that into the service cost. The plumber shows up and opens a book and says it will be $225 to fix it. He shines a light down in the garbage disposal and asks his partner to go get their snake camera. By the time he returns the guy found it was a small piece of metal was jammed in it and removed it, This process took less than 10 minutes. Here's my issue with their flat rate system. Another person has the same issue a jammed disposal but this issue takes 2 hours for the same price. My visit cost me over $20 dollars a minute. Makes me basically feel like I was cheated.

My heat went out and this unethical company charged 150 to come out and make lies to gain extra money they stated I need an entire , motor which would cost me thousands of dollars, another company came and stated the hose was clogged up and had it working in minutes. We discovered a leak under our kitchen sink. I replaced the facet but water was still leaking in another area. I called A-1 American for plumbing problem. The lady on the phone took my information and said someone would be calling us early afternoon. I received a call quickly and Larry and John came out to look at the leak. They gave me a quote then fixed the problem. The were both very nice with great customer service. I would recommend A-1 American to everyone.

Had a blocked washing machine & deep sink drain line blockage. Called A-1 American late Tuesday (2 days before Thanksgiving). Two technicians were sent out early the next morning (Thanksgiving Eve). Both techs (Randy & Jeff) were polite, friendly and professional. They evaluated the problem and we agreed on a price.

The blockage was difficult to remove. They snaked from the roof vent as well as the deep sink trap. After breaking through the blockage, they snacked the full length of the run to remove any other partial blockages and completed the job. They completed the job with a operational testing of the of the drain and it worked great!

Both techs did a through cleaning of the work area and I was completely satisfied and would highly recommend them!

Easily the worst HVAC company in Hampton Roads. This company is so scummy that it borders on an outright scam. It's sad that they'd bastardize they name American to this extent. Just open the phone book to heating & air, throw a dart at it and you'll find a more honest company.

Last week my kitchen sink disposal was clogged and I called A-1 office and was very pleasantly surprised to hear that someone would be out within a few hours. The reason I called honestly was because of all the commercials I have seen over the years. I really didn’t know who to call so I decided to take a chance on A-1 American. Jeff and Randy were great! They worked really hard to unclog my sink and when the clog would not clear using all the normal methods they started trouble shooting. They identified the problem and fixed it quickly. They were professional, courteous and personable… and cleaned up when they finished. I also was impressed how well they worked together as a team. I can honestly say the commercials are correct! A-1 American rocks!

They came 3 times within 2 weeks and repaired the HVAC. The 4th time we got a new unit. They reduced the cost of the unit by the costs of repairs. The technician was professional, friendly and timely. He even called the day after to check on the system and our satisfaction.

I purchased a Trane combo unit back in 2018. I was told at the time that I could wait two years until I would need to perform a routine AC checkup. I called last week and was told the AC tuneup was going to be $159. I asked the receptionist why so much since so many others are in the $59 to $89 range. She insisted A-1 does a 30 point checkup and that the coils would be cleaned, etc. I went ahead and scheduled the service. When the tech called me Wednesday morning, he said he had just found out about the appt and could he come that night instead of the agreed upon morning slot. I said no. He said fine and he would come. For the $159, he was her maybe 5 mins. He stuck the device that reads the pressure and freon on for maybe 10 secs. And only on one outlet. Said it looked good. Looked inside from the top and said everything looked clean and he was done. I was astonished. He then said that was going to be $189. Are you kidding me. I will NEVER have this company come onsite ever again. I have never been so disappointed in a service company.

I just had a Goodman Heat and Air unit installed by their installer. We recognized right away he had many years experience and knew what he was doing. Even though, we shrugged at the expense of a new unit, having priced them already, he was able to privide us with a well known product at a much lower cost and installed it less than 24 hours later. We were very happy and felt the difference in the air conditioning within minutes. Thank you and we are very satisfied customers.

I've never used your service and now I never will after being stuck behind an A-1 American company driver in a traffic jam. I was stuck behind your driver tonight in a very large traffic jam, he felt it necessary to completely stop in the lane causing the backup to be worse for everyone behind him. The other lane was moving fine and he stopped our lane completely.After a half an hour of being stuck behind him and dealing with his delaying our lane, he finally had the option to merge and he did a sharp left into the median (not technically a lane) then came back and cut the people off that were behind him so he could get back in the same lane. We finally were able to get around him, and we pulled up to see him texting behind the wheel. I've seen a lot of crazy drivers since moving here to Virginia but I've never been so appalled by the stupidity, recklessness, and carelessness of a company driver. I hope you will find a better driver soon so he doesn't lose you too much business, but you have lost mine.

I had a rusted-out kitchen sink drain. I tried to replace the various parts via Lowe's, but kept having trouble getting the threaded pipe to reach high enough to include the little gasket/washer. The A-1 plumber had the magic gasket/washer, and fixed it without any problem. The entire drain system there is now totally plastic. 'Very pleased with the repair and the work in general.

I had my water heater leak in my attic and A1 was there to answer the call. I had Jeremy and Chaz arrived at my house within the hour to diagnose and give an estimate within 10 minutes. They were willing to do the job right then and there, but we decided to get it started first thing in the morning. Customer service, knowledgeable, and professionalism is the best way to describe these two technicians. The job was done within 5 hours and looked fantastic. It's good to know there are still people that take pride in their craft. Will definitely be doing business with A1 again.

Contacted A1 about my garbage disposal repair/replacement and received an appointment immediately. The person who came to my home to repair/replace my garbage disposal was prompt and efficient. This company knows the value of customer Service. Words are not enough to describe how TC went above and beyond in providing services. He was responsive, attentive and took his time in explaining the issue. We had an electrical emergency situation that he took upon himself to fix; speeding the process. What can i say about Bryan, first and formost he was kind and very knowledgeable about my situation,me being an older woman and living alone,itshard to trust but there was something very trusting about him. i told him the problem with my toilet and kitchen sink downstairs and ask for the price of the repair first, approved the job and he fixed the toilet quickly, but the kitchen and bathroom drain was a bigger problem as far as getting unclogged but he hung in there and finished the job and i was very pleased to have my kitchen and downstairs bath back again. thanks again Bryan you are the best

If I could give negative stars I would! This company is gouging the customers. We had a limit switch go bad on our furnace the part cost $20.00. A1 American came and did the diagnosis and found the thermostat needed changed as well, when they gave us a price of almost 800.00 I was in shock!! I said thanks but no thanks and sent them on their way! We ordered the limit switch online and bought a thermostat from home depot we repaired it ourselves for 100.00. Please do not get taken by this company!!!

I initially called A1 about one of my bathrooms that was backed up. This was Friday evening. The lady I talked to said they would try to get out Friday evening but probably wouldn't make it until Saturday. I understood that and had no problem with it. It is now Sunday evening and no one has called me. I've called them several times and was told it would be a few hours and that they were backed up. I just called them and told them that either they were too busy or I wasn't important enough for them to worry about and I wanted to cancel the service. They replied, That's fine. No apology, nothing. They have had more than 48 hours and I have lost a whole weekend. Very disappointed. Don't waste your time!

I would like to Momentarily bring you into my world. I have a two-year-old unit that literally just stopped. After calling for hours on end trying to contact an HVAC company that could come out at 9 o'clock pm on a weekend was hard. Needless to say there was no HVAC for me that night. The next morning I woke up with an urge to call on a large company and just see how it goes. I tend to like the call on small business owners. I I called a one American already frustrated as you can imagine. I had to go into the hospital for an appointment while I was in the hospital the A-1 team had a master technician already alerted and he said he was able to be at my home when I came home from the hospital. When I arrived shortly after TC did as well. He may have spent 15 minutes in the attic came down and told me that he could be back in the morning to fix my issue. I knew he knew what he was talking about the vibe he gave, It exuded confidence! He came back the following morning as he said he would when in the attic I had air conditioning within 5 minutes.. Through all of this A-1 American recognized what a lot of people take for granted, military service.... This was a pleasant surprise. Thanked me for my service acknowledging my service by telling me that they take pride in making sure the veteran population and are appreciative and taken care of as a company. For this I proudly say I am always A-1 American

From the start to the end everyone I spoke with was very kind. I had an emergency water heater replacement job needed. Rachel took my call and she was friendly, understanding and extremely helpful. Jon completed the work at my rental property and kept me informed the entire time. He was able to give me amazing recommendations and a great deal. We are a business and Jeremy wanted to charge us $650.00 to change out a simple $65.00 faucet. Talk about an upcharge and they still wanted $98 service call just for showing up. Tried calling their office clearly they did not care. Funny how they said they freed up today. It like they over charge in hopes they just showed up to collect the $98. Save yourself the grief call someone else.

A-1 American came to look at my air conditioner since it was not working properly. The technician was not in an A-1 American uniform or driving a A-1 American truck, but showed ID when asked. He said the unit needed freon and charged us $500 to add the freon. We paid the money thinking that would fix the problem, then after adding the freon, he inspected the rest of the unit he realized the heat strips were blowing with the air conditioning. With our system being 18 years old, he did not think we would be able to get the right parts so we probably would need a new unit. That night he checked for the parts and the next day he said it would be to expensive for the parts so we might as well get a new unit. He quoted us a price for a new unit minus the $500 we spent, but found another company to complete the work cheaper.

We feel like we overpaid for the freon and we would not of needed to buy it if he checked out the whole unit first.

I would not recommend this business to anyone. I had a technician come out to service my boiler at my home. Instantly the technician told me my unit was unsafe and tried selling me a new unit, Also i was charged $78 just for him to come and literally do nothing. Constantly bashing my home warranty company telling me they wouldn't cover the replacement of a new unit. Very non professional. Technician could have passed as a definite drug user. I just purchased the home and prior owners used the boiler all the time mainly for hot water and heat. Had a different business come out, said boiler was in great shape just old. Serviced it and all was well. Terrible way to run a business!

Not very impressed with A1 American should be A1 not get back with a costumer tryed to get a appointment to get my system look at on Thursday I was told someone would call me well no phone call but that's fine there are more companies more reliable SO MUCH FOR THERE 24 HOUR ON. They sent out a subcontractor to fix our heat pump. The subcontractor misrepresented himself, lied about why he didn't have a company truck. He then proceeded to make the problem worse than it originally was. It took the supervisor 7 days to return my calls, and when he did he was quite rude. Had to have another company come and fix the problems they created. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY

I had a leak in the hot water line running under the house. I called and was very impressed with how quickly the service call was scheduled. Although I thought the price was a little high, the work was completed in a very professional manner and a small residual problem was rectified the same day.

We have used A-1 American Services when we have had a problem. We are in an older house and have had heating and AC emergencies. Customer service has always been stellar, and the technicians have always been prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. Our water heater broke late yesterday and this morning we are up and running again. John and Larry were awesome and got everything up and running in the time frame they discussed. They explained what needed to be done and what they were going to do. They left the work area clean also. Thank you so much for past and present pleasant experiences. We will call A-1 American Services for all of our plumbing, heating, and ac needs.

Terrible rip off. My parents had a weekend trouble call for a clogged drain. They fixed it in 35 minutes and charged them over $800. I expected they may have to pay somewhat of a premium. But after waiting four hours for them to show up and then get such a high quote leaves a real bad taste in my mouth. I suggest using a smaller and local company like Precision Plumbing....

I called A-1 late on a Thursday afternoon and thought I would be lucky to get someone here the next day. Wrong. Bryan from A-1 was here within an hour, and he did a great job! Instead of just cleaning out the faucet strainer (as 2 previous plumbers had done), he went above and beyond and identified the source of the problem. I now have more water pressure in my kitchen than I could have ever hoped for. Bryan was quick, professional, and competent. I will definitely call A-1 again. Thank you!

Great service from Jeremy. We had a problem with turning the water off from the street and Jeremy helped us contact the city and came back the next morning (Saturday) after the water was turned off to finish repairs. Would definitely recommend Jeremy and A1-Americian.

This company does not stand by it's work. Argued that 2 bungled jobs were not their fault. Refused to return calls numerous times. Very rude office staff. Found another plumber 2 repair my plumbing issues.

I called A-1 due to a tub leaking from second floor to first. The technician was on time and had a great attitude. He quickly identified and fixed the problem. Cleaned up after himself and fixed another clogged drain while on-site. He was very professional, fast and gave some helpful tips. Based on this experience, I will not hesitate calling A-1 again when I need some help.

I had an issue with my tankless water heater and A-1 came out to take a look. I was initially told this might be about a 4 hour fix; whatever, that's fine. 7 hours later, they told me they need to get parts for it because a lot of issues came up with things needing to be replaced. These guys came back about two more times before they said they needed another part and then it took almost two weeks for them to get that part and finish the job on my water heater.
This sounds like a terrible review, but the whole time they were working with me, I could tell they were genuinely concerned with helping me and making sure everything was in order. Rachel, at their office, was always so kind and sweet when I called in about something. John was the technician who was working on the heater, and he was really good about communicating what was wrong and what he was doing to fix it. This is a very professional and kind group of people that I was happy to work with.
To top it all off, they sent me a nice letter in the mail to apologize about the delay and how long everything took. For them to take the time to do that is an amazing thing to me, and I greatly appreciated it. The only reason I'm going with 4 stars is because I rent the home I'm at, so I never had to see a bill for anything. I suppose the price of all of this might have changed my feelings about them one way or the other, but I'm sure it wouldn't have been by much.

My mother called A1 last friday nice guy comes out after he completes job tells her 700.00 she said that sounds high he then comes back at 450.00. My mother did not have hot water friday night. A1 came out told her it needed another part not the one installed she calls Rheem hot water heaters knowing her one yr. warranty was up and nice guy at Rheem told her since it was only 3 yrs old part was coming to her no charge. She calls A1 they said 325.00 to install now keep in mind she just spent 450.00. Called Curtis Key plumbling part was installed for 170.00 I called office lady and she said A1American is the highest in area like my mother should have known this. Call A1 American get your wallet out.

They came out to my house because my upstairs tub faucet and sink faucet were both dripping. The tech called to say he was running late which was nice. When he got there he took a look at both and gave me an estimate of $773. He explained that I was getting the regular price because I was a first time customer. This just floored me. I have a regular plumber but he was on another job so he couldn't do it. I told him just to fix the tub so it was still like $598. All he did was replace a little piece...not almost six hundred dollars worth. It only took like 10 minutes. I did later call my plumber to fix the sink and I told him. He couldn't believe it. He only charged me $75 to fix the sink and he said he would have fixed both for $125. I feel so used. I guess its live and learn. I will never use them again and have also alerted friends and family to this.

My water main gate valve unexpectedly decided to not work. I called A-1 early Sunday evening telling them I need a new ball valve installed on my 3/4” copper line so I could have water to the house. The A-1 rep took my name, address, etc. and said they would call 30 mins before arrival. I waited and waited, then called them at 4am...no answer. Tried again at 6am...no answer. Called again sometime after 7am and the guy that answered was very nice and said my job was being assigned to one of their techs (so much for 24hr emergency response!). A tech finally arrived at 930 am. Scoped the job, leafed through a binder and informed me that they charge just over $800 (first time customer) to replace a 3/4” copper water main valve!!!!!!!!!! Mind you, my valve is located in the corner of my garage - PLENTY of room to do the job. The tech didn’t have to do anything but cut out some pipe, sweat a few pieces together, and then bask in the glory of accomplishment. It couldn’t have been a cleaner scenario (ie. No walls to destroy or crawl spaces to access, etc.). The tech was very nice and as far as I can figure isn’t a full time A-1 tech (as best as I could tell). Needing water to my house, I relented and ended up calling A-1 to confirm the quoted price was “for real”. Sadly, it was. The A-1 rep was also nice, but didn’t help with the price, seemingly leaving price dickering up to the on-scene tech, who admittedly did take $25 off the bill. Bottom line: My house now has water, but it truly cost a mortgage payment!! A MORTGAGE payment!! This kind of fleecing is what gives the trades such a bad name. Unfortunately, if you want to obtain multiple estimates before making a decision, you’ll have to pay for each of them. So they use this as leverage to get the job. Whomever you go with will credit back the cost of their estimate. Good luck.

Please be aware that you may be paying 2-3 times the going rate for repairs if you use A-1 American.
We recently had the capacitor go out on our outside AC unit and they refused to give price over phone and required a $80 service call. After arriving, they were charging a $510 value rate for this repair ($710 normally???) based on book value (which was the pricing we had originally requested over the phone). The part changed was ~$10 and the repair took ~10 mins. The tech was on site for 24 mins total. After he left we called around a few other places and they said the average for this repair should be $230 including overhead and profit. We have friends who got stuck with a ~$300 bill from them for un-clogging a tub (again about 10 mins on site).

We have reached out 7-8 times since the 15th of August to get this corrected, but they refuse to call back. They are advertising: will do everything in our power to see that you are satisfied, they will get the facts, and they will keep your costs reasonable all of which is false advertising. From our experience with them so far, it is unlikely we will get them to fix the sloppy work or get any money back, but wanted to warn you.

If I could give a no star review I would. I called on Tuesday 9/15/15 to have someone find a leak somewhere in my house, and specifically said using the leak detection equipment. It wasn’t anywhere obvious because I would have noticed it. I was informed that it would $78 and they would be using that equipment.
The Lady on the phone told me they could be there between 9 and 12 the next morning. So I took off work for those three hours and told them I would be in when they were finished. At 11:40 Wednesday morning I called the main number back and asked what was going on, I hadn’t received a phone call and no one had shown up. I was told they were running “a little” behind and she would have the plumber call me. He called me a few minutes later. He was very rude and incredibly difficult to understand on the phone. He told me they wouldn’t be able to get to me until 430- 5.
I called the office back and wanted to talk to a supervisor because I had wasted my whole morning and now I was going to have to waste my entire afternoon waiting for them to decide when they were going to show up. I was told that there wasn’t a supervisor available and that she was sorry for the inconvenience. When I followed up and asked why I wasn’t informed they were behind until I called, her only response was, “she has no way of knowing and they only have one set of leak detection equipment and she was again sorry for the inconvenience.” (Which is basically just a line. It was obvious it wasn’t the first time it was used.)
At 1230 a plumber called me back to ask me if I had a faucet dripping. I wanted to ask him how stupid he thought I was. (Why would I leave a faucet dripping for 3 months, so my water bill is high and then call a plumber to fix it.)
At 430 I received another phone call from a different plumber and they said there was one job ahead of me and they wouldn’t be able to get to me until 6-630. At this point I was ready to tell them to forget it, I would call someone else. But I need this problem fixed ASAP.
At 545 I finally got another phone call telling me they were in route to my house. At 615 they showed up but didn’t come to my door for another 5-10 minutes. Once he finally came up to my door and introduce himself he told me they would start out front. After about 15 minutes I hadn’t seen them in my front yard. The ice cream man had come around and they decided they needed ice cream and couldn’t work while eating it. Finally they came into my house and checked all my bathrooms and the kitchen. They had to move my washer to get to the valve inside and didn’t put anything back how it was. They were also unprepared and had to borrow my ladder to get to it.
Once they “pinpointed” the leak in the main line that goes through my yard and my living room was what had the leak he then informed me it would be $375 an hour to use the equipment I specifically asked for in the first place that I was told was $78. He didn’t specify anything about paying immediately or calling my insurance company. He was about to start ripping up my yard and house at 7pm. Once I told them to leave, it took another 15 minutes to write the work order up to basically only say the leak was in the main water line.
I will never call this company again to do anything for me and I plan to tell as many people as possible this story so they never call them.

We are extremely pleased with A-1 American's service for our recent plumbing repairs. John called ahead and arrived at the house within the stated time frame given to us when we called for service. He was very polite and explained in detail what repairs needed to be done based on our concerns. The repairs were fixed quickly! John even took the time to educate us on questions we had regarding plumbing maintenance and other related issues. A very positive experience for us,and we would not hesitate to recommend this company (and John) for to our friends and families!
