American plumbing did all our finish work in a newly built ADU. They showed up on time, work was neat clean and everything works great! I have recommended them to many others.

I am so very pleased with my experience with American Backflow Services. They are very prompt, friendly and the customer service is amazing. I am a first time user of this company and they were recommended by a neighbor who has used them each year for his backflow testing. They send in their paperwork to the city in a timely fashion. I highly recommend this company and their services. Diann, Newberg, Oregon

American Backflow is definitely the best! We use them for testing all of the new backflow devices we install during plumbing projects, both commercial and residential. The scheduling staff, Dean Belwood, Josh Blacker and the crew, are always very friendly, courteous, and helpful and all work is scheduled promptly. They are great at working with our schedule and getting the testing done right away so we can complete our project. And they take care of all of the paperwork so we don't have to worry about it. I would highly recommend them for all of your testing needs!

I am very disappointed with the lack of communication and basically it came down to NO communication with this company. I desperately needed them to replace the backflow system of a apartment complex I manage. They were initially gung ho and on-board, then POOF, they vanished off of the planet. Unanswered emails and phone calls for 6 weeks. A simple, we are too busy would have sufficed.
Tony came out and diagnosed that the main valve controlling water to my house has split. He was quick and efficient and very reasonable for an urgently needed fix. Don't waste critical time...Call American Backflow and Plumbing! Joe

Backflow inspection.
We paid to have our annual backflow inspection. These guys show up and leave the inspection without a word. The city calls us and said we failed inspection. We tried to contact ABF asking why they didn't talk to us when they were here. 2 weeks later we get an email with an estimate for over 300 dollars for repairs. Meantime we had another company inspect and they did a clean out and charge was less than 50. These guys are a scamming residence for unnecessary repairs.
Placed my order, they were out two days later, left a copy of my results on the door and sent a copy to the city. No complaints.
We needed a hot water heater to replace a broken one. American Plumbing Services installed the wrong kind of water heater. It looked like a sloppy job (pictures available) and the workers were very rude. When we asked questions, the owner of the company threatened us. We paid the company in full the very next day, just to put the whole thing behind us. But almost immediately we started to notice an odor, which started in the water heater area and progressively got worse throughout the house. It became so bad we finally called NW Natural Gas to come out.
Sure enough NW Natural Gas determined that there was “major spillage” of exhaust into our home as a result of the work this company did. NW Natural Gas proceeded to turn off our gas service to the water heater and Red Tagged it (pictures available) leaving us without hot water.
We had an inspection performed on the water heater by the City Of Portland Bureau Of Development. The inspection results confirmed that American Plumbing Services did not perform the work to code.
We still needed a working hot water heater. So we chose to have the repair work done by a different plumbing company – one not associated with American Plumbing Services – for the commercially reasonable price (multiple bids were acquired) of $1,850. We sent Anthony Johnston, the owner of American Plumbing Services, a certified letter explaining these facts, enclosed a copy of the chosen plumbing company’s receipt for $1,850, and we asked for the $1,850 to be reimbursed.
The owner of American Plumbing Services responded with a short phone message saying he “disagreed” with the letter and would not be sending us the reimbursement check as we requested. When we called him back, he reiterated he wouldn’t send us the check and declared: “You don’t have that many options available.”
American Plumbing Services chose to dodge responsibility for their mess. We are very unhappy with them.
ABS technician (Ryan) was timely, courteous, professional, and friendly. He called at 0800 to let me know his arrival time. He completed the service quickly and efficiently, and answered all my questions regarding our water piping and irrigation piping. A pleasure to deal with. All aspects of the service were beyond expectations. A great company I recommend highly!

I had Tony come out and do some work in my home. The experience was horrible! He did not communicate with me, I
always had to call him to get updates. Then he started charging me for the time he was spending,Researching the job
via phone or internet because he was unsure of how to do it. It was very clear to me at this point that Tony was trying
take advantage of me, and/or he did not know how to do this job properly, and I was not interested in paying for his
time to educate himself. I immediately decided to pay Tony for the work done, and hire a different plumber to finish the
job that was not going to charge me for his, time to research the job. Tony then told me that I should not do that,
and that, nobody else would be able to fix my problem, and it wont work. I then told him where he could go...! Tony then
threatened to remove the part of the work that had been done already, and/or shut off my water when I was not home. All this
because he was upset that I was firing him and going with another plumber that was not going to charge me to learn how to
do the job. I then payed him in full for the work that had been done, as well as for the, research time, where no actual
work was performed, so I could cut tie's and move forward with the project. Really glad that I did, he was going to
add a lot more of these, research charges to my bill if I had aloud him to continue with the job. Because of this horrible experience
that I had with Tony, I would highly recommend staying away from this company!
Professional, knowledgeable, convenient and reasonably priced: exactly what I needed! So easy to work with: scheduled testing appointment and made advance payment online; direct email communications to confirm 2-hour arrival time window; prompt arrival on scheduled date. Super polite Brandon explained valve repair need in language I could understand. Awesome Dean, the manager, quickly scheduled repair service appointment and walked me through what to expect (so no surprises). Good to know: the plumbers licensed to do the repair are also licensed to do the required retest (so no need for two service calls/providers)--not true of many competitors. The company also handles all the paperwork submissions to the water bureau and sends you copies for your files. Perfection!

Love working with these guys. Very knowledgeable and thorough.
If you care about safety, I would highly recommend using a different company
The folks at this company are the best people you could ever hope to deal with. They are professional, punctual, courteous, informative and extraordinarily patient and helpful. They performed needed repairs and worked with Clark PUD to get me current with my test paperwork. I give this company the highest level of recommendation possible.

American Plumbing could not have been more helpful. I called mid morning because of a hissing water heater. Tony took my call and had a serviceman out to my house within half an hour. It was quickly determined that I needed a new water heater, and they were able to send a plumber to my house and get the install done the same day. Mike and his helper Ryan were very professional and did a great job, even dealing with a water heater that was in an unusual location with humor and grace. VERY pleased with their work!

Severe reckless driving in traffic on way to appointment while forgetting your vehicle is an advertisement for your company.
I had a great experience with ABS in Portland and look forward to working with them going forward for our annual backflow preventer testing. Scheduling via their website was easy and convenient. At what I presume was peak season, available service dates were only about two weeks out. Follow-up communication from ABS was timely. Service was set for a very reasonable 2-hour window, with the technician arriving in the earlier part of that. The technician was friendly, professional, knowledgable, patient, and amiably informative as I curiously watched him work (not having, myself, any prior awareness of this testing)—he more than surpassed my expectations. The required paperwork was promptly prepared and submitted to the Water Bureau by ABS, and they emailed me a copy for my records. I couldn’t be happier with the experience and give ABS my full endorsement!

Great service. Fast friendly will definitely use them again.
Unprofessional and unresponsive. Beware
They tested my backflow preventer and that was a pretty straightforward job. Their web presence is quite rudimentary.

These guys are JUST THE BEST. They do what and when they say they will. I've been a very happy customer for years.
Everything went great. All the things you expect from a service company such as American Plumbing. On time, did the work, tested the work, kept the area clean, etc, etc. All great stuff.
Where American Plumbing got my business and made me feel like opening my check book was the fact that they were willing to work with a DIY homeowner. There is a certain amount of work that I feel comfortable doing myself and when I walked through my ideas and my project with Tony during the estimate phase he made it clear that they are happy to do the work that I didn't want to do. But...not only that, they would assist in answering some questions and setting me up for success in my DIY adventure.
American Plumbing went the extra mile and helped me to have the confidence in knowing where to dig, saved me time and money by helping assess the system and even provided some tools and service along the way, (like dumping all my concrete) at no extra charge.
I've tried to work with other trades that they want to do the whole thing or nothing at all. The fact that American Plumbing will work with me is why I will continue to call them in the future.

Technician Ryan called 30 mins before the appointment to let me know when he would arrive, and he arrived early. He was courteous, professional, and quick with our apartment backflow assembly testing. He was also very gracious about explaining the system setup, and about not dirtying our floors (as it was raining during the appointment). When he was done, he let me know that they would send all the necessary paperwork to PSE and a copy to us as well. Dean made scheduling the appointment easy, and Ryan did a great job. We will be making another appointment next year when we need testing again - thanks guys!
I didn't feel like an easy customer- but American Backflow Services was really amazing to work with for my backflow installation. I have a house with very old plumbing, I didn't really know what I was doing, and I'm very cautious during COVID.
I called a number of places, but I was blown away by how courteous and helpful Owen was. He came out quickly and quoted the job, Tony followed up with a patient phone call to explain my options, and the price was very competitive. Ultimately, I chose American Backflow because I felt, amongst the companies who quoted me, that they were the most professional. I was likely to have the best outcome.
I was scheduled quickly, and on the day of install Owen called ahead of time, and was incredibly respectful of my home and me. He was happy to mask and anytime there was any option, he asked me for my opinion rather than just plowing ahead.
The job was done quickly and beautifully and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

They fully plumbed this old jewel. Even helped with some design/build advice. Will post a few after pictures when the drywall and painting is done. Thanks Tony, Mike Kyle, Ryan, and crew!
TVWD wanted a test of my back flow valve. These guys said they work with TVWD. The tech came, saw no valve and reported the same to the Tualatin Valley Water District.
I believe the technician that checked our backflow system broke a valve on the system and left it in a closed position, preventing us from using our irrigation system. He did make a note of the leak in our system (an apparently pre-existing problem).
Someone from American Backflow came out to check our system to see if something was amiss and other than noting the standing water from the previously noted leak, did not check the valves and said everything was fine except for my leak.
I had MP Plumbing (who I highly endorse) come out, return the closed valve back into the open position, allowing me use of my irrigation system. I then had MP Plumbing dig up the backflow preventer system, repair the cracked system and replace the valves and repeat a check of the system - at a cost of > $1000.
I don't think American Backflow had anything to do with my leak or the costs I incurred from the leak, but it seems reasonable to expect that a competent technician/plumber should have avoided damage to the valve, and at least left the valve in the open position which is how they found it. At the very least the American Backflow troubleshooter should have been able to find the troubles they had caused.
This is a great place to work!
We are all like family here at the company and value the same things in life: quality, dedication, and satisfaction. I’ve never worked with a group of men and women who care so much about our clients wants and needs.
