Alan was friendly, got the job done quickly and charged an entirely reasonable rate for his services. He even gave tips and did a few quick visual inspections of other areas of the house that frequently break down. Would hire him again in a heart beat.

I reached out and set up a time for Andy to come by and get a scope of the work. First time he set up to be at our home between 1-2. 4 pm rolls around and I don’t hear from him. Finally at 4:15 I get text that he won’t make it and needs to reset. 4 hrs later he decides to let me know he could go by same time the next day. He comes by, spends time looking over what is needed. So then 3 days go by until I hear how he wants to perform the work, I don’t receive any formal quote and his suggestion is completely different to what I had suggested on how to go about it. I then suggest to meet with him at the home when I will be there so we can formulate a plan. He doesn’t respond so I text again. Finally I hear back and he says he thinks I should go with my first plan with no explanation of what that means and I ask what that means and I get no response. I paid $50 for him to come by to review the job and got zero out of it. I wouldn’t recommend this guy to anyone. I thought with seeing his prior reviews it would be a good experience but I was wrong. Just terrible communication, tardy and zero follow through.

Based on Alan’s response I am even happier I didn’t use him, no apologies for not showing up for two hrs and not letting us know as my wife waited for him. Then also saying he didn’t take the job because it may violate code. He never said any of this as he communicated with us via text and I have all the communications. Complete lies and opposite of reviews I have seen here. Glad everyone else seems to have a good experience, ours was not.

FINALLY, I have found a dependable home repair expert. I contacted Alan regarding a kitchen sink leak and a problem with my stove exhaust fan. He quickly returned my call, met me promptly the next day and had everything back in order in no time. His price was very reasonable his service excellent. The Raleigh Handyman, Alan Thompson, installed a storm door for us in our back door way. Very happy with the new door and installation. Having Alan do the job is like having a seasoned pro who is also a funny good neighbor. Alan shows and explains any pitfalls encountered doing the project, but then finds ways to resolve them. He also took the time to adjust and tighten a loose knob on our other door. We enjoyed having The Raleigh Handyman on our project.

We contracted Alan to install 2 nest thermostats , 2 storm door stoppers, and a Yale front door lock. He was able to install one of the nest thermostats, but could not get the second one to power on and said we would need to call an AC company to come out and rewire something under the home.

He was unable to install the Yale door lock due to issues with our door.

He was only able to install one of our storm door stoppers because one of the old stoppers screws would not come out for him. The one door stopper he did install was installed incorrectly and is not functioning as intended. I sent him a text with pictures and he never responded.

Alan was friendly and was responsive to texts initially which is why I gave the two stars, but we were disappointed with the outcome. We completely understand that things come up and projects don't always go as planned, but I don't feel that the way he handled it was very professional. After I paid him, he left without saying anything.

It seems like he has performed great work for others, so maybe it was just an off day but we did want to share our experience.

Alan responds very quickly and will do his best to at least check out your request no longer than 48hrs after contacting him. He is knowledgeable and offers little tips on how to save money throughout your home. He fixed my guest bathroom toilet and my doorbell in about 15mins. His prices are very fare...plus, Alan has a great sense of humor! I recommend him for any projects big or small around your home.

The Raleigh Handyman (Alan) performs excellent service, is personable, on time and reasonably priced. We are moving my father into my sister's home and needed safety measures installed. Alan installed wall heaters, handrails, wall cabinets, safety grab bars and mounted a TV. Throughout the work, Alan asked for (and accepted!) our input. In essence, we worked on the project together - he wanting to ensure that it was all done exactly as we wanted. Alan also provided his expert advice when we suggested a measure/technique that would not have led to the best outcome. There is no question that we would recommend Alan to anyone and will certainly have him do any future work we need.

Alan Was great I was having an issue trying to install a New light Fixture in my Master closet. Well I called and he heard about the problem and then Diagnosed that the wiring was not done right from the Contractor and instructed me what I need to purchase from the Home improvement Store to have to proper stuff for install and then he came the next Day and fixed the problem installed a new light fixture and even told me how to fix a Wobbly Ceiling Fan. We hired Alan to fix a garbage disposal issue. He was very trustworthy, a great communicator, and super easy to work with. We will use him again.

Alan has been very helpful to me and my mother. He has repaired a door that came out of its track, a sink plumbing issue and the biggest challenge of all replacing deadbolt locks in our doors. What should have been a simple replacement was not. The deadbolts were actually bigger by just a small amount so the existing holes had to be enlarged and that is not an easy task on metal doors. Anyway that setback did not frustrate alan and he soldiered on. He is on time, friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks Alan.

I found Alan on Nextdoor from a recommendation and I'm so glad I did. I wanted to get someone that not only had good reviews but that was known in the area. I have used him twice once on replacing a garbage disposal in which he did everything he could to not but it was just time for another, and he replaced my hot water heater reserve pipe and I havent had any problems out of either. He also has reasonable prices and if he doesn't have what he needs ( because I didn't have all the correct parts he didn't hesitate to go and get them without extra charge ) he also gave me a tip on how to keep the blades sharpened. I have his number stored as Mr. Alan The Handy Man and will continue to use him for future projects. Give him a call and he will help you out if he can and if he can't he will be honest and say so.

Alan and his excellent assistant James really went above-and-beyond with the work they did for us last week. They replaced a light fixture and an outdated smoke alarm, installed new door locks, repaired a toilet, replaced the damaged weather stripping under our back door, and (thankfully!!) found and fixed a leakage problem with our garbage disposal. Mr. Thompson repaired a kitchen drawer that had fallen apart. He completed the task within 30 minutes. This was much more cost effective than replacing the drawer. All was completed in 30 minutes.

A few months back I hired Alan to put a closet rack up and and to mount a TV on the wall. He did great work and was personable. When I bought my new home, I knew who to call; Alan hung my TVs, curtain rods, and put a cabinet together. It's means so much to have someone to call with confidence that they will do a great job. Alan is absolutely the best handyman available. First, he’s very professional given how responsive he is to return calls about requested work. His professionalism also shows through his dress/appearance (Alan’s the “best dressed” handyman I’ve ever hired) as well as his communication with you about the progress of his work; he does a great job explaining what needs to be done and how he’ll complete the job. Second, he’s a great problem-solver. Just call him the “MacGyver” of handyman services. Several times I’ve witness Alan resolve an issue with a job (most recently, a tile-flooring job) with creativity and ingenuity; he simply won’t quit until he fixes the issue. I believe that this never-quit attitude comes from how Alan told me when I first hired him that he’d complete my work as though it was his own home; and Alan, a.k.a. “MacGyver”, does just that! Finally, Alan is trustworthy. I am a very private individual. But, I’d have no problem leaving Alan alone in my home with my wallet laying out on the kitchen counter. The man is honest and dependable—the kind of person you can have a beer/glass of wine/or a coke with and just talk about life in a friendly way; Alan definitely won’t take advantage of his customers. It’s for all these reasons that I won’t call any other handyman service; if Alan happens to be busy for a few days, I’m willing to wait on him to do my needed work. He’s that great! So, hire Alan yourself and then get prepare to experience his excellent handyman service.

He called back within 45 minutes of me reaching out and was able to squeeze me in that day, which I was not expecting at all. Great price and excellent service! I recently reached back out to him and received the same awesome customer service. He called back within a few minutes of me sending a text and was able to fit me in within that next day. He mounted two TV’s in no time and also installed new shower fixtures. While he was here, he also provided advice for other random inquiries I had at no cost. Alan was able to come out and help us with several projects within 24 hrs. He was at our home on time and very professional. He installed a microwave which wasn’t easy due to the tile and new holes that had to be drilled, hung 2 shelves, and cleared out our dryer vent. His prices were also very reasonable. Have a set of bi-fold closet doors that I’ve been meaning to have fixed. Finally googled and found Alan, filled out the online request, he showed up that afternoon and installed new tracks. Alan was the most responsive home service professional I’ve ever worked with. From the point I contacted him to job completion was only three days. I had two big drawers in a butler’s pantry that needed to be fixed and a smart thermostat that I needed to have installed. He fixed a loose door handle without me even asking. Would highly recommend him. Friendly, professional and very reasonably priced. Most importantly, knocked some things off our home to-do list that had been there for way too long.
