John was absolutely wonderful. He's charismatic, kind & patient, not to mention a great storyteller! I immediately felt at ease in his presence, & he kept me involved & laughing throughout the visit.

While booking the appointment, he requested a brief description of the issues needing to be fixed with corresponding photos so that he could not only prepare for the visit, but also in an attempt to save the both of us time & me money. He first provided detailed instructions so I could try & resolve the issue on my own. When that didn't work, he accommodated my schedule so service could still be provided the same day.

John sent texts notifying me prior to his arrival, including a photo of himself so I knew who to expect. He walked me through the different steps he took/tests he performed & explained his thought process along the way in layman's terms. He answered all of my questions, even offering me bits of helpful advice for other concerns not in his bailiwick. He was transparent about all associated costs & asked me what I wanted to do before proceeding.

While he calculated the costs in his car, I received a text documenting the end of the visit & a link for rating/feedback. He also took the time to sit beside me to review the invoice prior to departing. John will be the first person I contact should any other electrical issues arise.

John was a life saver. We had issues with our lights going on and off for the last 8months. Had another electrician come out twice and claimed to have fixed the problem but not to be. We were basically in the dark all winter. Reluctant to bring out another electrician for fear that we would need to re-wire the whole house and thus a major expense. I had contacted John before settling on the other service and decided to give him a shot. He came out as scheduled….was professional and funny…and fixed the problem in no time at a very reasonable rate. We even spent a few minutes sharing jokes. John is great and clearly knows what he’s doing. I’ve already recommended him to friends and would not hesitate to use him again.

John was prompt, very nice and highly knowledgeable. He comes prepared for whatever the job throws his way. He fixed a inset light that was never installed properly orginally, and he installed a new light fixture. He had to make adjustments to the fasteners for the light because the correct screws were not provided in the packaging.

John was available on short notice, on a Sunday, to help me with an issue in my sub-panel. The right-hand neutral bar had overheated due to a loose screw at the top. The smell of melting plastic on the crossbar which connects that bar to the left hand neutral bar alerted me to the issue. I de-energized the panel and immediately began looking for an electrician. John expertly and quickly moved the neutrals from the right bar to the left bar, extended a couple of wires, and tucked everything back neatly. The service was quick, John was friendly and on time, and the pricing was more than fair for same-day emergency work on the weekend. If I have more electrical work in the future, planned or emergency, I'll be calling Brookline Electric first!

John is a fantastic electrician. He is thorough, thoughtful, professional, and a fun personality to have working on things in your house. He explains everything, provides you with choices, and if he can't do the job, he has referrals for you to call. I highly recommend Brookline Electric Co.

Best Service I have received John Peters understood the problem as soon as I opened my door. After 2 calls to PG&E who could figure out nothing John called them and told them the problem then PG&E fixed it. Perhaps John should be CEO of PG&E.

Out of 3 issues only the easiest was fixed.
Charged $320 ($100 transportation + $180/h + $50 for a dimmer) to change a light switch and leave postit notes on the other problematic fixtures.

No recommendations left.

Didn’t even bother picking up the wire cut leftovers.

Incredible experience. John was highly responsive on a Saturday. I had several garage tube lighting fixtures malfunctioning. John quickly diagnosed several failing ballast units. I now have 7 LED energy efficient garage lighting units. Thanks John!

John was very punctual and professional. Fixed the problem quickly and I would definitely use/recommend him again.

Had issues with random flickering lights in the whole house, which John believe to be due to corrosion in the guts of the panel (30 mins). He recommended that I purchase a new panel to replace the guts, which i was lucky to find one last one on eBay. Took 2 hours to replace the guts of the panel in the 2nd visit, and no sign of issues since. Total cost ~$650

The dimmable LED light fixtures flicker. It turns out my old dimmer switch cannot handle LED bulbs.

I contacted Brookline Electric to swap out fluorescent bulbs to LED in my garage. John arrived on time and worked quickly. He even allowed me to help out and save some money. The results are great, the lights are nice and bright! Thank you John!

We needed to replace our smoke detectors and Carbon Monoxide sensor. John and his business were extremely helpful and responsive to our needs. We set a date a few weeks later and he was in and out in less than an hour. It was a fantastic experience, and I appreciated John walking through the dangers of carbon monoxide. He was very professional and knowledgeable!

John arrived on time ready to tackle what at first seemed like a complex problem. John clearly relished the challenge and he was informative as he puzzled through the possible problems and solutions. It was clear John is a master at his craft, and in the end it became clear the problem was not so tough and easily remedied. John was friendly and good company throughout.

I made an appointment online for John to come fix a GFCI outlet in my bathroom. We initially had trouble with the online sign up only because it populated the wrong address and I didn’t check his efficient confirmation.. After that, everything went smoothly. He arrived punctually as promised, diagnosed the problem quickly including pointing out that if he wired the socket slightly differently I would avoid the problem I had in the future. He was also observant that we needed to upgrade our smoke/CO alarms and recommended the ones he carries. Having explained that we struggle with all of ours going off at the same time, he again rewired our boxes so they wouldn’t ‘talk’ to each other and installed his that have a sealed 10 year battery. John’s work was efficient but friendly and chatty and calm. Although it was quite the investment, I can now truly sleep in comfort and my bathroom lights work perfectly. John has been around the block and knows his stuff about his job, codes and working with people. Great experience.

As a professional homeowners association property manager working with trusted and competent vendors is of utmost importance. John was able to quickly and competently diagnose the issues and repair the electrical problem in a condominium building I manage. To expedite the situation he was even able to recreate and make a new part in his shop for the repair! He provides timely updates to arrival, provides competent notes and photos on his invoice and it is easy to schedule appointments on his website. Overall wonderful experience and I highly recommend his services. He is a master electrician with significant experience!

John Peters was great! He came to my house without delay on Xmas Eve no less, and he quickly helped me solve my lighting issues. He also noticed a different lighting issue that I had not called him about, and he fixed that as well. Highly recommend him for your electrical issues.

John was on time. He didn't waste time and got straight to work. He identified the problem, communicated clearly, explained the issue and fixed it quickly. No surprises. No added services. He noticed our smoke detectors are older and we do not have CO detectors so he recommended new detectors that are reasonably priced and easily available at any hardware store. It was just his advice. He didn't try to sell anything. What a pleasant surprise. He checked and double-checked everything. He provided a detailed report and information in the receipt, which was emailed within an hour after he left. I would highly recommend him. He cost a little more than some other Electricians I spoke with, but it was an easy choice to make. I have peace of mind knowing he was a qualified, knowledgeable professional, and he has a warranty for his work.

I had a great feeling from the moment I first contacted Brookline. John Peters got back to me within minutes and he came over the next day to fix my trip-happy circuit breaker. He was punctual, transparent about pricing, and had an arrival window of only one hour (unlike the cable company, which makes you wait around all day). I sincerely appreciate his honesty: while I called to replace the circuit breaker, he noticed that the breaker was fine, but just loose. Due to some recent home improvements, I had two electrical issues. First, the fuse box switch directed to the heater was in off position and wouldn’t turn on. The wall heater was removed and I wasn’t sure the wiring is correct. Two, the newly installed light fixture was on a dimmer which was working until the night before. I wasn’t sure it was installed correctly. I needed the wiring in the light switch checked and maybe the light installation.
The appoint process was very easy. John arrived promptly the next day. He. Is very knowledgeable and reassured me that the wiring was not faulty. He efficiently replaced the dimmer switch and explained that some newer light fixtures don’t work with older switches.
He was in and out and told a couples jokes to boot!

Referred to John by another company. He's super punctual and timely in his communications. Very fair pricing. I had a minor lighting issue and he was able to correctly diagnose the issue and fix it JUST BY TEXTING. Saved myself a ton of money and him a ton of time. He has a dry witty humor - but as long as you look past that and value him for his expertise - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I called two Electrician companies prior to calling Brookline Electric. Neither of them were responsive. John Peters from Brookline Electric was very responsive and came to my place on the same day. I was so relieved as there was no electricity in certain areas of my place, and he was able to fix it. Plus, He fixed a switch that had been bothering me for a while. John was fast. He immediately fixed the problems. He knows his stuff. I like that he’s willing to fix small problems as well. Also he is a very nice, down to earth person. I am so glad I found him. He will be my go to electrician from now on!

Had been having really funky light issues- constant flickering and bulbs going out. Neither PG&E nor our building contractor could figure out the culprit. Reached out to John and he responded in minutes. Easily set up an appointment and he came out several times to trouble shoot. He did not charge us for any of the visits except the one where he fixed the problem. Lovely service, he reached out several times while not even here to remotely help us- free of charge. The best !

John did an outstanding job with a very difficult and unusual problem we were having more frequently: half of lights in house would flicker, then would stay off for a while, and then come back on. No explanation. Finally, it was happening about every hour until the were off or several hours. With some great detective work and root cause analysis, John found the problem: the PG&E Meter was bad on one power lead only! Excellent work, would recommend to anyone. Prompt and kept us in the loop all along the way; solved problem in two short visits.

John did a great job replacing the old outdated smoke alarms in my condo. I now have state of the art detectors for Both smoke and co detection. John was on time and very efficient. I would recommend Brookline electric and I would use them again in the future for electrical needs.

Our 10 year old wired smoke alarms started miss behaving in the middle of the night so I contacted John to see if he could come the same day – to install nest wired smoke detectors. I had the smoke detectors connected to the Internet and ready to install. John got right to work and finished with efficiency. John was easy to contact, communicative and seems to be extremely knowledgeable.

John from Brookline came to our rescue after we had tried to install a new light fixture ourselves and lost power to all of the wall outlets. Responsive service, cares about the job he is doing and his customer's satisfaction. We will call him again - because we won't be doing any DIY electrical anymore.

John was extremely helpful in trying to debug a very complicated problem with us. We just moved into a new apartment and there seemed to be a break in the electricity. Although the problem was too big for him to fix, he referred us to someone who could help and outlined the steps we would need to contact a flooring guy to finish the rest. John Peters is a responsive, competent electrician. Brookline Electric worked on three of our small apartment buildings in San Francisco to bring them into compliance with fire department requirements. This required a high level of tenant interaction and coordination. John was both professional and timely in doing this work, treating tenants with respect and efficiently installing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in 18 different units.

When one or two of the products malfunctioned, John was out to replace them within a day, no hassle no problem. When one of them wasn’t strong enough for the tenants bread-making, again, upgrade with no hassle no problem.

John stands by his work. His communication is excelllent. I appreciate the texting system John uses as there’s no ambiguity when appointments are made and the follow up is also very efficient. He has organized his buisiness for client service and the documentation is readily available. You can even schedule appointments through his web site and receive a confirmation via text that he is on the way, and again when the work is completed. Very impressive.

John saved my butt today. I needed a very noisy exhaust fan fixed in our busy office bathroom. First of all he was able to come out on short notice -- next day (when other electricians were telling me it would be two weeks before they could even look at my problem.) When the fan I had bought didn't fit, John improvised and got my existing fan to work while we scheduled someone who could do the sheetrock and plaster work. John was a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend him.

A couple of specific instances where John at Brookline really shines. When I first called him about an electrical issue at my ancient apartment, John walked me through how to troubleshoot using the old fusebox, and that actually helped diagnose and fix the problem. Now I know how to troubleshoot similar issues, and that was a way better service than other electricians I called who basically pitched expensive house calls. I also like this system whereby if you call him and he's unable to pick up the phone, it automatically sends you a text and asks that you contact him that way with details. It's super efficient, and really helps streamline his operations and ensures that his customers are cared for. Well done!

Brookline Electric Co. (John) performed an assessment of the power supply and usage at my apartment building. Since one of the apartment tenants was experiencing partial power outages, John was called in to analyze the problem. John was quick to respond and very professional in his assessment of the problem and problem remedies. His report was clear and understandable. I will not hesitate to call Brookline Electric Co. for future work.

We had issues with two electric plugs and the issue was resolved promptly. Brookline Electric was timely, very communicative and we will definitely be working with them in the future. Highly recommended.

Our bathroom fan was making a terrible noise and we had to get it fixed before guests arrived. John managed to fit me into his schedule for the next day. He took the fan apart, found the problem, ordered the needed part overnight and installed the repaired fan without fuss and in time. He kept in touch constantly by text. He's a bit crusty but he knows his business.

We talked about what I wanted done and eventually John cut the spade connectors off of the 220 V wires behind the timer and I put wire nuts on them so that they are safely capped off. The stairway light switch was bad it was a three-way switch so John replaced it with the same color ivory three-way switch. John is great and I will def call him for any upcomingn electrical issues!

highly recommended! During outlet replacement, John noticed the plug on an appliance was worn and replaced it at no charge. On time, quick, efficient, didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. WILL be my go to from now on.

John answered my call and told me he could come over within a few hours. He kept me updated on his status via text message (which I greatly appreciated) and arrived right on time.

I changed some switches in my home and needed guidance because something didn't work correctly. John offered to save me money by helping me over SMS during the weekend. He was super helpful and was very knowledgeable. Can't recommend him enough.

I needed an energy monitor installed (Neurio) in my apartment's electrical panel, and John did the job correctly and charged the amount that he said he would. He somehow didn't even have to turn off the power, which was convenient since the dishwasher and dryer were running! I also liked that he has an online scheduling app, and communicates via text, so I didn't have to make any phone calls.

John was friendly and responsive. Replaced my bathroom light switch in less than 30 mins and explained what caused the issue. I'm extremely happy with the service and would recommend him.

John did an excellent job. My big light in the kitchen burned out. It' fluorescent, hangs from the ceiling like an upside down rosebud, beautiful but a pain in the neck to fix. So many parts to remove and replace. John put in new circle tubes. He even went to a hardware store in the rain and traffic to get a LED light for the center. I am very happy with his services. I have called on him for help a few times and he's always responded promptly and fixed the problem.

I wanted an estimate for a broken fuse box and he came to my house to check it out. His arrival was prompt, but his demeanor was quite sarcastic. John checked the fuse box and said he couldn't do anything about it, because of a metal blocking the way it. He then said to remove the metal yourself and call another company to repair it. Well, I did heed his advice of calling another electrician and they promptly worked on my fuse box. I think John needs to work on his customer service skills.

We had the kitchen lights ballast taken out and converted to LED tubes. Also installed a light fixture in the dinning room with dimmer switch. Highly recommended!

John at Brookline is fantastic. After arriving home from work late on a Thursday (8:30 p.m.), I learned that half of the electricity in my home was out, including the refrigerator. John called me promptly after I reached out to him even though I have never been a client of Brookline. He gave me excellent service that night, for which he did not charge because the problem was not fixed. He then arrived first thing the next morning, diagnosed the problem, discovering that it was an issue with the PG&E outside lines, and contacted PG&E to get them out to my house to fix the problem. After additional follow up from John at Brookline, again for which he did not charge me, PG&E fixed the problem and all is well. John charged me a very reasonable fee for this time, which was a great value to me and my family. I highly recommend Brookline Electric!

The original reason for my call was something John was able to direct me to fix via text: there's no upsell on services or stuff you don't need. I still had a bunch of to-dos that required a visit, and John was prompt, professional, and helpful.

Also had a second visit -wherein John played detective in locating the missing GFI reset. He remains prompt, professional, and helpful.

I had some outlets fail on me and couldn't figure out why they weren't working. Called John and he responded promptly. Took maybe an hour between my initial inquire and him showing up at my door. He helped me get them fixed as well took care of a separate smoke alarm issue in just about 30 minutes. Fast service and very friendly!

John is not only super sweet and nice to be around, he knows his stuff! My house didn't have a specific issue, the power just keeps going out! So he did some troubleshooting to try to find the root of the problem. Though it wasn't found, I now know what to do next time it fails AKA text him and he'll be right over! He's so wonderful. He also took a look around and realized our place didnt have any Carbon Monoxide monitors! Yikes!! He had them in his vehicle and installed them in a jiffy! We couldn't have asked for or expected better service. John was on another job when I called but said he'd be here as soon as he could. He arrived in less than an hour and went right right to work. On our main problem, several circuits flickering, he called PG&E and reported what he had found. His call had them out that afternoon to replace our main service line at no cost to us. While he was there he fixed several other electrical problems we had found since moving into the house 2 years ago. He was thorough and efficient. We will call Brookline Electrical for all our future electrical needs.

We had our smoke alarm go off in the middle of the night two nights in a row and couldn’t get help from the company. He came super quickly and was informative and friendly. Couldn’t recommend him more highly.

If I could do less than a 1 star I would. Overpriced and very slow ! He actually sent out our lamps to be fixed by another electrician, then installed them. One didn't work and he had to do it over and charged us over $600 for 2 sconces that could have been bought for less than $100 for both. Beware! Takes advantage of commercial accounts for sure! The only thing he was really fast with was billing. He demanded over $600 and did not reduce the bill at all, even when I told him this was not a fair and honest job. I would never put my trust in a company that doesn't do the work themselves or gave results as this, if I had known.

John Peter's is very pleasant, funny and very efficient. We are very happy with his advice and speedy work. He is on my phone contact list for the next emergency.

John was in contact about the arrival time and even shared a possible fix for the problem for a small fee if it worked. The problem was bigger than that, so he replaced the circuit breaker and now everything works perfectly.

We needed to replace the thermostat, add the C wire and move it to the opposite side of the wall. The job was done very well with minimal damage to the wall. Highly recommend!

I had a bunch of little things in the house bothering me and a few electricians had already ghosted me when they found out the job was so small. Not John! He came the same day, and we switched out to LEDs, swapped dimmers to LED-compliant versions and fixed a few outlets all in about an hour. So responsive - so easy!

Brookline specializes in smoke alarms, something which most other electricians think is a bother. Brookline replaced 3 old smoke alarms with updated combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. His pricing is transparent and his work is efficient and friendly.

It was easy to set up an appointment and pay online. Another company wanted to charge me a not to exceed $2000 budget to locate the problem. Brookline located the short and repaired it right away. I would definitely use Brookline again.

John Alan Peters came to my rental flat to replace an outlet. My tenants told me that he gave super clear explanations, made recommendations, and was really fast and friendly.

Made an appointment several days ago, but they cancelled the night before. Extremely unprofessional.

He arrived on time and fixed the issue right away. The rates are reasonable and we will be contacting him again should we have any other problems. Highly recommend him!

Beware and read the website thoroughly. Apparently, just for showing up and no skilled intervention you get charged an outrageous amount of money. I was shocked at the bill for less than 30 seconds of turning on a breaker switch. I will not be calling this company for future work.

Helped us troubleshoot an electrical problem on a piece of construction equipment with short notice on a late Friday afternoon. Showed up within 15 minutes and got our job going again. Saved our company from having to shutdown the job.

Had to get an electrician in a hurry to figure out why half of my employer's building was powerless. John came out in 20 minutes and found the problem in under an hour (despite never have done business with us before and being unfamiliar with the building's wiring!)
